(I'm saying thermal paste instead of thermal grease) Hi guys, I'm planning to build a gaming desktop and wish that it last long. I have seen a lot of youtubers using thermal paste from difference manufacturers like cooler master rather than the one that came together with the cpu cooler. Does different thermal paste really affect the temperature of the CPU? Thank you.

Hi, everyone! I have been having overheating on my laptop. It's a Lenovo with a i7 7700HQ and a GTX 1060-MaxQ and the heatsink is crap. It's a 2-pipe single heatsink shared by both the CPU and GPU. Lately I've been hitting close to 90ºC on the CPU and close to 80ºC on the GPU (which I never saw above 72ºC) so I decided to repaste it and clean all the dust. I used an old MX-4 I had for like 7-8 years and the thermals were even worse after! I figured the paste had gone bad and so I bought a Kryonaut tube and applied it and the thermals did not change! I was hitting 93ºC in the CPU and high 80ºC on the GPU. I opened it up again and this was what I saw (this is the CPU but the GPU looked the same. Usually you see a lot more paste when you open it up. Does this mean I used too little thermal paste? I used the pea method. Also, then I figured that MAYBE the screws on the heatsink are not meant to be tightened to the max and googled it and I guess that's right. Tightening it to the max can squeeze the thermal paste away from the contact zone so it should be tightened like 60%. I tested how many turns the screws had and it was 5 turns. I turned them 3 times each and that time I used the spread method like this. After testing, the max the CPU got was 87ºC and GPU was 74ºC, so either the spread method, the looser screws or both helped! Any ideas about this? Best regards!

Hi, I wonder what type of thermal grease GPU manufacturers put on new GPUs, what is the conductivity? Do you recommend replacing the thermal comlund with new one? like Arctic mx4 which has 8.5 w/mk conductivity? I have gigabyte rtx 2080 super gaming oc reaching 75c now at the beginning of summer @70% fan speed.

Hi, I have recently built a new PC and kinda cheaped out on the thermal paste and bought the Cooler Master HTK-002-U1 thermal paste. I just realized that its thermal conductivity is only 0.8 W/mK and am buying a new paste as soon as possible. Given the current low conductivity, theoretically any of the 2 thermal paste in the title should be a huge leap. However, does anyone know how much difference will this make? Perhaps people who have used this HTK-002 before and upgraded might know. I know that most thermal paste differences are in the 1-2 degrees range, but this might change more due to the drastic difference in conductivity. Secondly, which one is better in your opinion? Hello everyone! So I am really getting frustrated with my CPU and its temperature rising for some reason, I have found out about the problem about a month ago when my PC once shut down as I was playing PUBG with friends I start it back up and check my CPU/GPU temperature and I find that my CPU's idle temp was about 42-50 Degrees. So I knew I had to change the thermal paste, and I didn't do much research to see which one was the best thermal paste at the time so I bought Arctic Silver 5, I know that it's an old product now and there are better choices. I got it and applied it on my CPU... First I tried Pea/Dot method : Temperature gone down to about 37 degrees (Celsius) and I thought I could work with that, now I knew there was some burn in process required so I let it be for a few days, the next day, however, instead of remaining or improving, it went back to 42+ degrees again. So I waited a couple of days and checked, it didn't fix. I then changed the paste again, this time I tried the Line method as I found it out that it's recommended on their website. Same story : Initially the temperature was low then it went back up in a day. I tried once again, and it was still the same for me. So I thought maybe I was fooled, even though the tube looked genuine, I thought I got a fake product or something. This time I did more research and found out that CoolerMaster MasterGel Maker was the top product so I ordered that! Now yesterday I applied it with its recommended "spread" method and the temperature is about 40 - 50 on idle still Today, I applied with the Pea/Dot method and the temperature went down to 36 and then again rose up. I'm really getting frustrated with this, I'm no expert but I believe I didn't put too little or too much. But I don't know. (Stress test puts it up to 82 degrees right now) Now I would really like for someone to help me out with this. I'd like to try it once more with a better method, if I'm screwing it up. I'd like to know for this particular thermal paste, what method is best suited? (CoolerMaster MasterGel Maker) If it's the spread method (which is something I dislike) or if it's dot method that suits the best or if it's the line method that I should try. Or if you think this is some other problem. I'd like to point out that my cooler is about almost 2 years old, though it doesn't show any sign of problems with it, the pump seems cool enough, I just think that the heat isn't being transferred all that well maybe. This is what I'm working with: Intel Core i7 4770K Corsair GTX H100i Liquid Cooler CoolerMaster CM 690 III Cabinet No extra fans in the chassis though.

heyy guys, would like to consult yall bout the pre-applied thermal grease on the liquid cooling Corsair's H115i, should I keep the pre-applied thermal grease or swap it out? I came across this thermal grease 'Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut', its lookin extremely popular in the market. My variety of video games are mainly Dota 2 & PUBG, and 3rd person adventure games like MGSV & ROTTR. I would like to have the best cooling performance and the quality of the thermal grease (longetivity). Will be grateful for your suggestions THANKS !

So for my planned PC build, it uses i7 6700k CPU with the CRYORIG H5 Universal CPU Cooler. Which thermal compound should I buy for it? Or does it even matter which one I buy?

I just got my Hyper 212 EVO, and I want to know if I should use the included Cooler Master thermal paste, or some Thermaltake TG-2 that I have leftover from replacing my PS3's heat sink. Is there a noticeable difference between the two?

So I know that the Arctic Alumina is just about the cheapest thermal paste you can buy and it's something other than the ones that come either pre-packaged with a product or pre-applied on a product. So how good (bad?) actually is it? Is this a better solution compared to the stock Intel heatsink pre-applied paste? Can this paste be usable for just general usage and not any sort of power usage at all? Thanks.

So just out of curiosity , how often should i replace the thermal compound on my cpu and gpu ? as of recently ive noticed my cpu is getting a fair amount hotter then it was a while ago under load and at idle. and on a side not whats your personal preference for thermal compound ?

Hello, and thanks for reading this already! I'm doubting between the NT-H1 and the Arctic Silver 5. The NT-H1 oftenly seems superior, but apparently Silver is good in a thermal paste (which I'm guessing AS5 has ) What would you pick? Thanks in advance!

Ok so I was swapping out my i5-2500k for a i7-3770k I attempted to start the pc but my motherboard LED says "55" which apparently means memory not installed. So I cleaned the cpu up and checked all around it and the thermal paste accidentally leaked under the cpu and got about 5 of the pins covered about half way up the pins, it didn't seem to get on the tops of the pins though. I then attempted to clean the pins with alcohol, paper towels and tooth picks, the pins seem bent about half way up but I think thats just an illusion due to some of the thermal paste covering them or leaving a color as the gold tops line up with the working pins. I have tried to clean and install twice now getting the same "55" error. Yes I have re seated all my ram trying them in different places one and a time etc. At this point I don't see how I can clean anymore out I think my motherboard is just plain dead, I think I am gonna have to buy a new mobo, I just hope nothing else is broken. The last thing I can think of is to try my old cpu and see if thats the problem but it doesn't seem that way obviously just a possibility. What do you guys think? Any tips? I've been getting very high idle temperatures with my computer lately, which I only first built in August. I thought that this was probably an issue with the thermal grease. I'm using a Corsair H100i, and the pump seems to be working (I can feel water flowing through the tubes when I touch them) and the fans appear to be working perfectly on the radiator too. I reapplied some thermal paste, and the idle temperatures decreased from around 55-65 C, to 40-50 C (after the application it will sometimes dip as low as 36). I feel that the new idle temps of 40-50 C is still very high, especially for water cooling. What else could be the problem? I'm not overclocking, the cpu doesn't seem to be getting too much power... I just can't think of what else it might be. Specs: Intel 3770k Asus P8Z77-V 2x Gigabyte GTX 760 Corsair AX750 Corsair H100i
