Hi guys and girls! i finally got all the prts and can now present my first ever own build. Thanks especially to: @Naijin @martward @Bobbycat2414 @minibois for the help in finding the right information for parts. hey guys, so ive been on this 2nd hand system for almost 4 years now, and its 6-7 years old at this point. and i need some help with micro-stuttering that's happening in every game that im playing. the basic specs of the pc are: -i5 6500 (stock cooler, running at %100 fan speed) -gtx 970 zotac amp edition (running at the highest overclock settings possible) (driver 466.11) -msi b150 gaming m3 (latest bios) - 16gb 2400 mhz ram (running at 2133 cuz motherboard cant handle it) - 512gb nvme ssd on a pcie 3.0 x16 adapter, and two 256gb sata ssds and its all powered by an overkill cooler master 750W 80+ bronze PSU and i also added a couple of fps counter graphs for you to take a look. if you need any other info/graphs feel free to ask! the micro-stuttering has been happening for around 2 years now and last summer i decided to try overclocking. for the first week it was sorta effective but afterwards it basically did nothing to improve performance. and in the last few months i started experiencing graphical glitches even in the most popular titles like LoL, Valorant, Apex Legends, CS:GO which are pretty well optimized at this point. valorants new update that came out today actually helped a lot with micro-stuttering but its still there :'). since we got that all out of the way, time for the question. what can i do? i have done (im basically gonna put EVERYthing ive done on this list, so you dont waste your time explaining to me something ive already tried) - factory resetting (3 times) - overclocking the gpu - updating motherboard bios - turning fan speeds up to their highest speeds - shutting down ALL background applications including norton 360 - reseating and reconnecting every component - cleaning every component possible (a few times, excluding CPU itself.) (but one thing i havent done is re-apply thermal paste, let me know if i actually should) - using razer cortex which actually made the gaming experience worse :I - clearing cache - setting the game to high priority in task manager - deleting every bit of unnecessary file excluding system files - trying to find the best settings possible for each game by trying and with suggestions of geforce experience (which are misleading :/) i might have forgotten some basic stuff but if you have anything to say, please do; if you read this far, i need your help. i am sick of playing at 30 fps even though the counter shows 144 thank you!

I recently got a Seagate enterprise capacity 3.5 HDD V6 drive, ST10000NM0016. 10tb. From someone who works there, due to it having high power on hours. But I am having issues getting it to work. in every system I've tried it in, it will not initialize or spin up. I've tried disk management, and diskpart. in Diskpart/list disk, just said Size = 0B/ Free = 0B. the drive does not show in file explorer. any ideas or pointers? thanks

First and foremost, I'd like to thank everyone here on the LTT forums for all the help, advice and assistance I have received over the past couple weeks. There's no way I would have picked out the right parts without all your help! In particular, I'd like to thank: airdeano - For helping me determine the exact PCI-E slot spacing length on the Maximus VIII Formula. STRMfrmXMN - For recommending a quality PSU and helping me estimate what wattage I needed. herman mcpootis - For giving good advice about storage devices. MaxBunny - For posting the Shia Labeouf "Just do it" meme when I asked for opinions on GTX 1080 SLI This PC was built primarily as a gaming PC for BF1 (and many other SLI supported games) because my 6 year old PC had massive issues running the beta. I had planned on waiting for the Acer Predator X34p to be released in Q4 2016, but since it was delayed, I am now planning on playing the monitor lotto with the X34. Anyways, without further adieu...

Ok just to be clear i already bought the motherboard for a Threadripper but I'm very concerned about getting the CPU because i was looking at some videos and saw that when playing games the GPU was being bottlenecked and was using more of the CPU causing the frames to drop drastically. I would love to know if I should get a different board and CPU because i don't want to spend all this money and have my machine not work properly.

Hello! I have put together a list of parts for a new computer that I will be building soon and would love if anyone could maybe tweak or give their thoughts and opinions on parts that I have chosen. Thank you :^) https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Burntmuffinz/saved/N9pt6h - (PcPartPicker.com is where I made my list and I tried checking the parts myself just in case to see if it was all compatible and from what I found it seemed to work fine 1. Budget & Location- I would prefer to stay fairly close to around $2000 USD (U.S. location obviously). 2. Aim- I am mostly looking to use this computer for playing the latest games such as Destiny 2, PUBG, Nier Automata, and heavily modding older games such as Skyrim, Fallout 4, and so on. 3. Monitors- Currently, I use a BENQ XL2420Z (discontinued http://www.benq.us/product/monitor/xl2420z) and I will be using this monitor on my new build as I planned on using a display port cable to take advantage of the monitors 144Hz refresh rate but that seems to be causing issues for some people on other forums so I may switch to a 144Hz Asus monitor in the future. (Will not be using more than one monitor in the future). 4. Peripherals- I have a ROCCAT ISKU keyboard and some weird Team Scorpion mouse??? and I would prefer to upgrade to the keyboard and mouse included in my parts list buy it is not that big of a deal I guess. I will also need Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit. 5.Why are you upgrading- I am choosing to upgrade because my current computer is rocking some questionable parts and is roughly 6 years old and it's time to start looking for an upgrade. (All of my drivers and other things are updated currently but I would just love to upgrade at this point thanks). I don't exactly know if I had to exactly type this all out like this but the read me thing said I did so I thought I might as well :^). Also one other thing this is the first time I have put together a list on my own and plan on building it myself as for the computer I am using as of now is a pre-built overpriced mistake I made a long time ago. -----sry for it being so long :^)-----

I was wondering what are the chances that if I build my own pc that I screw something up ? I've watched many videos and I think I can build one without having to watch another video. what are the chances that I electric discharge something ? I will have an electrostatic wrist band but if I do shock something will it still work ??? im just worried that if I do shock something it breaks, is it unlikely or ? THANKS

Hi Linus, I'm not entirely sure if you get a lot of posts directly addressing you or not, or if they get read frequently, but I felt that I needed to let you know my story, because your channel has become something much more than a series of videos that air weekly, to me it's a crutch that helped me regain the grasp on my mental health. I hope you don't mind that this gets personal, but I want to share my story with you and to all that decide to view this post. In the months leading past last March, I reached a very low point with regards to my mental health; I was suffering from serious depression and anxiety as a result of personal issues that had been dogging me constantly. I didn't know where to go- I was afraid to go to any sort of doctor and wasn't willing to talk to anyone about it because I'm naturally a shy person. I was being eaten up inside my mind and couldn't find a way out, and it was having a negative effect on my college work and general lifestyle, to the point where I was constantly trapped in a cycle my own negative thought, losing sleep and finding myself in a constant state on unhappiness. For months this continued, and it got to a point where I had simply accepted the notion that I wouldn't be happy again. My family and close friends all tried their best to help me but it was never enough. However, one September evening I found myself at a friends house where the first episode of scrapyard wars just happened to surface as part of our youtube surfing. I had been a fan of you growing as a young teenager but had lost track of what was current with technology many years prior, but it piqued my interest so I kept watching. This inspired me to start watching regularly the following week, as I had been interested to keep up with the series and others prior. This was the start of a domino effect- soon afterwards, my whole life became enveloped in tech and news surrounding it. I subscribed to the channels you run outside of LTT, keeping up with all the news and reviews you and your crew get up to as well as your original videos, and for the first time in over half a year, I began to smile again. Not only did I begin to smile, but I soon began to shake off the depression and anxiety, brushing it off as an afterthought because I was too excited at the thoughts of saving up to build my own rig. I felt my whole life change with a new focus, and in somewhat of a cliché I began to once again excel in my grades at university and my family and friends all noticed that I was returning to my old self. I realise this is going to come across as very bait-ey in an attempt to draw attention to myself, but I really wanted to share this because your content has changed me for the better. Thank you, maybe I can shake your hand one day, pending I catch a means of getting over to Canada.

I am curious to know what the turn over on mining is for an "everyday" user. Lets assume they are somewhat competent with their hardware and have a system that can be used for this i,e an RX 480 with a i5 6600k and 16GB of RAM or something comparable. *apologies ahead of time if this is to much or to little as I am unsure of what qualifies as decent hardware for bit mining, so im taking a stab in that dark with a medium gaming setup :P* I hear a lot about the mining industry but never really hear about the amount a user can turn doing this, so any info is great. All help or info is greatly appreciated, Pulpypanda

Hi im new to PC gaming in general but a spur of the moment occured now ive got a system that works. I have ideas of what to do but theres so much i dont know and since LTT was really helpful in learning to build a PC Im still not entirely sure. I want a better overall performance and will list a my config below. Im new to the point where most of those id game with are still playing console so if anyone wants they can reply with their discord or steam if you want to play anytime. Alright down to buisiness GPU - RX 570 CPU - 3 2200 G MOT - AB350M-DS3H-CF RAM - G.SKILL 2X4 GB 2395 Mhz STORAGE - ST1000LX015-1U7172 PSU - 500 WATT BRONZE 80 (i believe, of the top of the head im saying most of this) AND - 1 small fan that i have new clue about. (if i missed a detail sorry) I keep getting stutters with high action fast pace games like apex. it can barely run fortnite in the event i play that. Rust cant be played on any settings. 80 fps for csgo but i still get massive stutters when i have to be swift, This could be because my Ryzen requires more memory than intel or it could be the lack in a monitor (my tv im using is 60 Hz 1920 x 1080, i know i need a monitor) Id hope someone could point me in the right direction. The goal is gaming in the short term but any ways i could build a pc or even use a second for streaming later on would be helpful to know. I also may want to do music but my focus is on gaming and then streaming. I live in the Uk so if i dont respond instantly my bad. Thank for any help also heres a screenshot of my CAM if this clears anything up for anyone. Have a great day people.3

Thank you Linus and all the members of Linus Media Group and Linus Tech Tips. About a year and a half ago I was planning my suicide after being used twice against my will. After some friends showed concern, I checked myself into a hospital. After the discharge I was still depressed and often layed around after work doing nothing, but the one thing I would do is watch YouTube, specifically Linus Tech Tips and it's sister channels, EEV Blog, the 8-Bit Guy, Chris Fix, Cody's Lab, LGR, Metal Jesus, RetroManCave, Modern Vintage Gamer, the Modern Rogue, and Voultar. All of you helped me carry-on everyday because I had at least something to look forward to everyday, whether it was new material or something I had to catch up with, there was something. I am doing much better now. I do have my bad days but I don't consider suicide as a valid option now. Thank you.

Hi... How's life? So here's the problem. I have a Smart TV with a cable connection and it hs two kinds of channels on its menu. ATV and DTV channels. The ATV channels are all open but the DTV ones have a key displayed on their sides and are all locked. The DTV ones had gotten unlocked a few days ago after another person in at my house said that she simply did autotune, but they all got locked again by themselves automatically after a day or two. And the autotune can't seem to get them back again. Any ideas???? Looking forward to all kind responses. Thank you.

Hello, 2 years ago I bought a laptop with an i7 and gtx 1050. I did not realise how much use I would get out of it and think it is time for an upgrade. I want to game in 4k and be able to edit 4k video. I also want the CPU to be liquid cooled and to be built in the corsair spec omega rgb. Also I would like it to be rgb. Personally I trust asus for my parts, so probably rog parts. Anyway, while were on the topic of a new pc, any recommendations for a 4k 144hz monitor? I was thinking of selling my asus laptop for a razer blade stealth touchscreen. Good idea?

First, I would like to thank everyone who helped me and gave me the courage to open up my really old (really REALLY old) laptop, which hasn't been opened up in 10 years. There was more dust in there than a whole attic, hope my overheating problems are gone. Now, my question is really dumb, but where's the CPU? Is it near the CMOS battery? Or underneath the hard drive? Thanks!

I set it to high and now windows just goes black when it gets to load on my laptop can some one please help me It's an Acer nitro 5(secondary display let me correct the issue)

Budget (including currency): $750 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Overwatch, CS:GO, osu!, Minecraft Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I've really been looking forward to putting a new rig together, seeing as how my old gaming rig is literally an old Dell Optiplex with a 1050 thrown into it, and I sat down with one of my friends to help me put together a decent starter PC for a decent price. This is what I have so far, and really am just asking if everything looks good/will work together. I already have the RAM and PSU from previous purchases. One thing that I would like some help on is my storage; if there's a cheaper, yet reliable, hard drive available I'll gladly take that over my current choice. Here's my list! I just wanna thank LTT for cooperating with a local translation group in China (Nixie Subs) and providing videos with official subtitles on video sites in China. It's not just I like LTT and it's easier for me to understand the content with subtitles. The fact that youtube uploader (I don't know for sure if it's the right way to describe you guys) trying to upload videos in PRC means a lot to people like me. After all it's kinda hard (at least not convenient) for us to access homemade videos (is this the right category?) at this quality, and I hope it's not just an individual accident but a start to follow for other uploaders. I'm not sure if I've expressed myself clearly, I guess I haven't. But thank you guys for doing this.

I just got the meshify c by fractal and the coolermaster airmaker 8 for my i5 8600k (that i had a evo 212 temporarily on) and now I want to overclock. I used my motherboards recommended 5 ghz oc profile and I easily hit 84 c running PUBG for a couple of seconds. Specs: Meshify C (air cooling case) i5 8600k Asus Strix Gaming-H (x370) 16 gb ddr4 GTX 1080 Fan config: 2 infront intaking 1 exhausting in back 2 fans that are on the cooler itself (push and pull i assume) the cooler master logo isnt upside down so i assume its blowing the right way Thermal Paste: Noctua NT-H1 Thermal Compound Any help would be appreciated! P.S I'm new to this overclocking stuff hence why i used to profile on my motherboard edit: This might be useful. The fans I bought didn't have air flow direction indicators so I spun it and I felt air on one side and not the other. Both front fans' logos are facing inside and exhaust is facing outside.

Hey guys i just got a brand new PC and after about a month of having it ive gotten this BSOD about 3 times. Im wondering if i should be concerned, my specs are ASUS TUF Z370 GAMING PLUS ASUS GTX 1070 TI TURBO 2X8gb 3000mhz RAM (ADATA XPG Z1 3000) i5-8600k @4.97ghz (1.35v) Corsair H115i Pro 280mm I heard this could have something to do with defective RAM but its brand new so im not sure what to think. Any help would be appreciated, i also ran a memtest and it was good.
