First im new to OpenWRT and i realize there is an entire wiki on this topic and setup, but im not understanding the information exactly so maybe one of you guys could explain it in more laymans terms... this is the router i am trying to configure, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GBXMBQF/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_Z04ZNZFJ5Y4VYDDMKZ3T it seems to do everything i need it to.... individually, but i cannot seem to connect to static IP devices... Im and automation technician, here lately i have been doing alot of reprogramming and replacing plc's and i tend to prefer ethernet, these devices often come with various preset IP address's that need to be changed upon initial setup so that their on the same subnet. I quickly realized readdressing all of them and plugging in a wireless router was needed to eliminate time, then i need to add internet to this new network to assist with help files, etc. So i took an old TP-link router that i found that was 5V and modified it to create my network with all my devices, and added another access point device to plug into the Wan port on the TP link router. This setup works but is bulky and rather large, so i found the above device that is USB powered and has all the features needed however i cannot see any of the PLC/HMI style devices and i am not sure why... The router does have a Luci GUI under the advanced settings but everytime i mange to get static IP devices to show, then i break Internet connectivity so im sure what i am doing wrong, If someone feels like reaching out to help i can further explain in detail or maybe even setup a video call. I figure it wouldnt take long but ive wasted two days and have factory reset this thing multiple times. ATTACHED IS MY DESIRE CONFIGURATION... the ethernet ports on the back would act as a switch allowing everything on the "switch" to talk amongst there selves as well as to the laptop... (these three ports on the device dont need internet, but it would be nice if they could access it as well) The laptop can access internet and all devices... and i can use wifi or USB tethering as my internet source depending on if i am in the workplace or on a service call.... can anyone help or atleast point me in the right direction...

Working through both LAN and Wifi
tobeornottobealttfan posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
Hello everyone, I use spacedesk while using conference calls to duplicate my laptop's screen so that I can annotate better. Now my WIfi has terrible latency and so connecting through it is a terrible Idea, So, I have to use an USB cable and android's usb tethering, But when I do so, my computer is accessing the web through my phone's internet connection which it gets through tethering (even though it is connected to the WIFI). So what I want is this- The computer will maintain connection to my phone using the LAN (usb tethering connection) + it will access the web through the WIFI connection. Can anyone help me achieve this? Thanks in advance. -
Hey again. I just got my new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. So here is my problem. Im tethering my phone WLAN to my PC via USB connection. But my PC is like.. NOPE.. i don't want any of those weird junk on my USB ports. For the first 5-10 seconds the tethering works just fine but after that, nothing will load on my Chrome Browser. Im still online in Discord, Steam and other programs like these. Well, i can't load pages on steam, just like Chrome but downloading patches from games works in steam. After 1-2 hours my PC kinda catched it and the tethering works fully normal. Sometimes nothing happen after a whole day if i don't remove my phone from the PC. My old S4 Mini handled is without any problems (It's broken). I tried to check my WLAN options on my phone to make sure it's not turning off the WLAN but after chaning these options nothing happend. -Icefly

Needed Features: * no need to Place My SIM in each time I use * Can Share Internernet wirelessly from Phone to Router * from router I can place a ethernet cable into it and use for other devices, etc... Optional: VPN Support Other things: Any other solutions? Please guys I'm not too experienced in This area

At first I just had a issue that USBtethering was causing huge lagspikes. After hours of searching and many diferent fixes(none of them worked) Ive found a "fix" that made everything worse: Open Device Manager (right click on Computer > Manage > on the left side, under System Tools choose Device Manager) Choose the problematic device in Network Adapters (for me it's called HTC Remote NDIS based device) Right click on it and choose Update Driver Software... Click Browse my computer for driver software Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers Uncheck the box Show compatible hardware For the manufacturer, choose Microsoft Now you will have two options: - Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device - Remote NDIS Compatible Device chose the second one and it solved the problem But after that when I was trying to enable USbtethering it instantly disconects. The problem is that I dont know how to undo the changes since I cant even select the device when its not conected. I have rebooted my PC/phone multiple times, used different USBport/cable. Any ideas how to fix this incredibly dumb mistake?

Hi guys! I'm currently using a conventional ADSL line. but it is slow and kinda expensive for what i get out of it. it's about 1-2 Mb/s (yes! MegaBITs. not bytes! i can download at a mind blowing speed of 90 Kilobytes a Second it can't play YouTube beyond 240p) and it is connected to a switch and 1 desktop, 1 laptop, 4 phones are connected to this network. not to mention, my NAS and a personal Linux server for dev work. i can get a LTE data plan with the same cost, witch provides around 25-50 Mb/s. but there are two major problems. first of all, i will have to buy it for almost every device and it will be 6 times more expensive then. and more importantly, i will lose access to my NAS. so the Question is: Is there a way that i can configure a phone or a LTE modem to share the LTE plan with the whole network connected to that switch? If it helps, i have a spare PC with i3 3220 inside. P.S. i know about WiFi/USB tethering. but i can't use either. because i can't use them and my NAS at the same time.

Hello. I have recently starting having a problem with my internet on my computer. I use a wired connection on my computer but for when i am at someone else's house I use my wifi adapter and for when my internet is down or turned off I use my USB tethering hotspot from my phone. Recently my phones charging port had stopped working so i could not usb thether for internet. I decied to use the wireless charging on my phone while having the mobile hotspot on, My plan was to pick up the hotspot connection using my wifi adapter but it didnt work. My wifi adapter could not find either my house internet or my phone internet, Also my phone's usb port had starting working again a few days ago and the usb tethering still doesnt work. It says that it is connected to "Network 5" but there is no internet access The picture below is the Troubleshooting report i had done for two of the issues. (Also put in the device manager showing the two devices.) I do not have the wifi adapter plugged in when this picture was taken but right after i put it in and it didnt pop up, It usually came up with the yellow triangle error. I'm not sure what the problem is but I would appreciate some advice before i end up having to reinstall windows Thank you

Hey LTT Community, I have a question about using mobile data for PC gaming. I am a northern California resident and renting a downstairs unit in a house in the Bay Area. Our local ISPs are Comcast and AT&T, and our house is signed up with AT&T. At the moment, the fastest package offered in our neighborhood is 10 Mpbs, which is terrible by today's standards. I play PC games (PUBG/Overwatch/Fortnite) and as soon as our landlady upstairs is streaming Netflix and on her phone, my ping is close to 200ms in games. We get about 6.5 Mbps download on our current plan. She is not interested in switching to Comcast due to past experiences, and at the moment Google Fiber hasn't reached our neighborhood. I am looking for other options. Recently I realized I could tether my Samsung Galaxy S7 to my computer via USB cable and use that for a connection. While the download/upload speeds are much faster than our current set up, I still get about 200-230ms in games, so it is not a feasible alternative to using our normal network. Why are download/upload speeds so fast using this, but the ping is so high? Do you guys have any suggestions for me being able to use mobile data to game with less latency? I would be happy to add $20-30 bucks to my phone plan if it meant I could game whenever I wanted. I could definitely use some educating in this department, any tips would be super helpful. P.S. I saw Linus's video about gaming on a camping trip or in the woods, and he had some kind of Telus USB stick that he could "load with data" for a few days to game. Is there any U.S. equivalent to this? And does it solve the latency issue?

Hi everybody, so I've been stuck with a pretty unstable internet connection for the past few weeks and it's been giving me a lot of headaches. It's not really that bad when it's just browsing/downloading stuff because it's instability mainly manifests in huge ping spikes (the highest I saw was around 22k ms) for a few seconds, which makes online gaming impossible. I've been wondering if there's anyway I could set it up so that I can dynamically switch to the connection tethered from my phone (which hovers at around 100 ms) when those spikes happen. I suppose I'd have to use a VPN to cheat the game server into thinking that I'm not changing my IP address every time a spike happens and then some kind of software that would choose which connection to use at any given time? Does anyone have any idea if it's possible at all and then how to actually make this work?

So the WiFi in my college dorm is unusable, the signal is unbearable and there is no way for me to boost it since the college requires you to install certificates in order to login. So I have been using a USB WiFi stick that I bought specifically to tether my Ethernet connection into my dorm room, giving internet to all my devices. This works fine and dandy on Ubuntu, I log in and connect to the "hidden network" that is the hotspot (i set it up beforehand with kde connection editor) and I can use it no issue. However, on Windows I have to use a program like mHotspot in order to crate the connection, and then I have to manually bridge the connection in the connection settings. This would be fine as well if it was not for the fact that this connection is completely unreliable. It cuts in and out and my Wii U cannot detect it period. Does anyone know a way to get a reliable tethered connection on Windows? mHotspot, Virtual Router, and the CMD process all do not work, even with the work arounds. (mHotspot works the best but I noted my issues earlier). I have the latest drivers and everything, I just have no idea what's causing this. I'm using a Panda Wireless Low-Range USB 2.4Ghz stick. I get a signal only in my room and the signal is strong, I can provide screenshots off of a wifi analyzing app if needed. Tl/Dr: Tethering WiFi on my usb WiFi stick works perfect on Ubuntu but is sketchy and unreliable on Windows, any solutions?

So i've just bought a Moto X Style, and i've got two months of free, fast internet (considering my home broadband is 4 mbps, and the 4g is around 24mbps...) However, whenever i go to tether the phone to my PC, it works, but strange things happen. Note that none of this happens when not tethered. Windows 10, specs are in the description I've got the motorola usb driver installed, and the motorola daemon running. These are the programs that misbehave while tethered, and their symptoms. - The network and sharing centre (need this to disable ethernet while tethered). Opening by right clicking on the network indicator on the taskbar, it takes ages to launch. Also takes ages to disable the ethernet adaptor, as it takes ages to navigate. Takes ages to close as well. - task manager, it takes ages to close. - windows media player - hangs on startup - itunes, hangs on startup - sometimes the start menu can be slow to open, but i'm using a third party one now, and there's been no trouble with that. - mailbird. When i open it from the taskbar it takes ages to launch, but clicking the button in the taskbar action centre (i actually don't know the name for it...) - World of tanks: it crashes occasionally. Note that this may also occur on ethernet, i haven't been able to test that, so it may be a recent update to WoT causing this one. I can't find anything online about this. It's such a weird issue... God dammit Windows. Also just today i've been having problems with pages becoming extremely slow to load (due to internet/data traffic from phone, not PC itself) occasionally. Something about security issue, i can give more detail on this if you think it's important. Thanks in advance, if you've got any advice on this weird windows quirk.

So, you pay a monthly amount of dollars for unlimited data on your phone? Tethering has always been a viable option for people on the go who hate small screens, but there are some things that need to be known before you start tethering: 1. Some cell service companies HATE this feature, some are ok with it in moderation, and some just don't care. Some companies charge extra for this service, be warned! Do some research on which company would be the best fit (I prefer Metro PCS $60 USD in the US as that covers everything). 2. Companies know people are going to use this, so you're gonna have to do some troubleshooting to get things working optimally. 3. Some phones are better at this than others. Known working models include Samsung S3, S4, and S5 running Android 4.0 and higher, BLU Studio Series phones, and LG. 4. When set up properly, internet will be available anywhere you get Data signals. 5. Applet programs (such as Steam, Minecraft, ect), will have difficulty connecting as the DNS does not resolve those server IP addresses (not because the name is not found, but because the DNS won't allow the connection, as most mobile browsers don't directly connect to a game server like Mohjang), or the User Agent is invalid, headers may be incorrectly scripted, ect ect, techno-jargon, and there are work-arounds for this which may be added later. Now, on to what you will need: Operating Systems: Windows, Linux, or (maybe Mac OS?) I haven't tested it. For Linux users, everything should work right out of the box, Linux's User Agent is close enough to your Android Device that packets and headers will be allowed. Go ahead and follow the steps from the icon to set up your tether. For Windows users, modern browsers are your friend. Internet Explorer may work right out of the box for most people (if it does, #netflix). You can try this by starting from the icon, and starting up Internet Explorer, (try netflix, as this won't work on a phone browser). Chrome and Firefox both have an extension/addon called User-Agent Switcher. Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/user-agent-switcher Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-Us/firefox/addon/user-agent-switcher/ You'll need to download either of these extensions, depending on which browser you want/need with an actual internet connection. No tethering this. Now, let's get your phone's user agent. If you have Chrome or Firefox on your phone, I recommend matching them with your computer to allow for JavaScript to run correctly. For me, I opened Chrome, go to the dropdown menu in the upper-right hand corner, and make sure 'Request Desktop Site' is checked. Next, in your address bar, or 'Omni Bar' for you google nerds, type in 'whats my user agent'. Your search engine should produce a result for whatsmyuseragent.com. Select this option and now switch over to your computer. Chrome: Once you have the addon, configure a new User-Agent by going to chrome://extensions/ ; find User-Agent Switcher, and click on the 'Options' link. Then click on 'New User Agent'. Now think up a name for your new agent, something classy like, 'linus420noscopepewpewpewonatuesday' or whatever, the next text space will be the User Agent. It's basically a string variable that tells a server what your browser is, whether your on a Desktop or Mobile platform ect. You'll need to retype the User Agent String that you pulled up on your phone, in the text box on your desktop. Example User Agent String (may work if you are lazy): Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/42.0.2311.109 Safari/537.36 Now click save. In your chrome browser, you should have a blue icon, shaped like a planet. Click on this. In the dropdown menu, select the user agent you just created. Now get a USB cable compatible with your phone, plug in your phone to your computer, install drivers. On your phone, locate your Tethering and Portable Hotspot options; (for Android 4.4 go into your system settings > more wireless > tethering & portable hotspot > and select USB Tethering). You'll notice there are other options for WiFi Tether and Bluetooth Tethering. These may work for you, I prefer having the faster (436 Mb/s) transfer rate of USB. And now try going to a webpage, something with Adobe Flash plugins are ideal testing sites because most people can't use flash on their phones. Disable/unplug your other connections to test this. Firefox: For Firefox User's, you follow almost the same steps as chrome except you will go to the User Agent Switcher Icon in the upper-right hand corner, click it, then click on 'Edit User Agents', and click 'New' , select 'New User Agent', and you'll only need to enter the 'Description' (aka Name), and User Agent. then click ok. Then click the User-Agent Switch Icon once more, and select your newly created User Agent. For everyone who read/followed this tutorial, I applaud you and appreciate the traffic. I realize this is a wall of text, and a picture speaks 1000 words, soon I'll try to get a more visual How-To created. That being said, whipping out a laptop, hooking up your phone and watching cat videos on YouTube while traveling will impress your friends, and the ladies love it.

For the past few days I have been tethering my phone's internet connection(through T-Mobile) instead of my home's connection because I am tired with the poor speeds, reliability, and the throttling that I get from my Comcast connection. I just want to hear your thoughts and opinions of doing something like this. Click Here For SpeedTest Result Click Here For Data Usage
