Hello, so about 1 and a half years ago I thought I found a sort of vaunerability with google maps and over the following months investigateted it further I will go into more details in a secound and would like a discussion and hear your thoughts but mainly I would like to have you informed about this issue because it could affect youreself. If I have spelling mistakes or my grammar is wrong please correct me English isn't my native language. I will update this Topic with mor detailed information when I get all of my notes together ^^ The "vulnerability" First of all I asked 2 companys which sad it isn't eligable for bug bounty so please don't spam random Companys with this article -thx When you are googleing a company or a location google will normaly show you the Google Buisness information that they gathered by helpful locals or websites so google is able to display the Information to you. The Problem is that (at least in my county Germany and I think in others as well) Buisnisses don't claim there Buisness on Google, that leads to the problem that -someone- could enter false Information. To be fair depending on how drastic your changes are to the data that google shows more people will have to report or confirm that information. I don't know how to programm a bot who could do that, but I have had time so I tried how much you could change and found this: Change the Telephone number by 1 number: 1 User Change the thelephone number by 2 numbers: 1 User (sometimes 2) Change the telephone number by more than 2 numbers: Changes drasticly from buisness to buisness but arround 10 Users with local guide or 18 without To change the website I think arround 5 Users have to say the same thing and the website has to have the buisness information. -I didn't focus on this as much as on the thelephone number why will be described in a secound. The Problem with chainging the telephone number: When a telephone number is active on a location/ buisness it takes about [2-8] months for the Claim your buisness function to accept verivication by telephone again. A Person with malishes intend could use a telephone numer and send every incoming call automaticly back to the original number so noby would notice that this would be the wrong number NOBODY CHECKS A WORKING PHONE NUMBER IF ITS "REAL" OR NOT The second you are able to verify via phone number you could turn the call forwarding off to recive the call and verify a buisness wich isn't yours. When you verivied that you "own" that location/ buisness you are able to cainge the information shown on google without confirmation That leads to one of the main vulnerabilitis: You can change the Buisness Website to a simular domain wich 1 Displays a fake website to grab Information 2 Have a cookie grabber and forward you to the real website you the user wouldnt notice The other main vulnerability is that nobody questions if the google bisnes owner is the real buisness owner so you could post events and discounts on the google page this would lead to a lot op upset custimers and a bad buisness reputation. The thired one is that [I think] you could record the calls that you would forward to the other number if you would connect them vai your server but I'm not shure about this last one because to be honest I don't have the tecincal epertise but would like to here from you if you are more skiled in this topic. How to protect youreself: You don't really have another choice as to claim your google buisness and check your data regulary This also apllies if you are not a buisness in case you are a cities office or something like that you may have to ability to take out the ability that people change your data but not shure (again) Before I posted this I talked to my local Police and a few buisnesses who are effected I can't contact all of you and I really want to make shure nobody will be harmed by this so I wanted to get the word out. If you have any questions or something like that feel free to ask I will make a reddit thread as well but its late and I probibly will post the link here tomorrow Reposts and follow ups are hoped for I you do I would love some credit ^^ Stay save Fabian

I hope someone else hasn't done this yet. Summary Reports of chip shortages impacting all manner of industries abound, it’s not just graphics cards that are hard to come by. Now comes news that megafoundry TSMC is prioritising production of chips for cars over other applications. What hope is there for us poor gamers ever getting our hands on a new GPU? According to CNBC, TSMC plans to prioritise new production capacity in favour of car makers. The move comes as pressure reportedly mounts at government level for TSMC to prioritise chips intended for cars. The global auto industry is currently suffering from significant production delays due to the shortage of chips, leading Germany’s Economy Minister Peter Altmaier writing to his Taiwanese counterpart requesting that TSMC, a key supplier of semiconductors for cars, focus on production for cars above all. Similar requests have reportedly been sent from the US, the European Union and Japan. Quotes My thoughts Well, I am personally not gonna be making any GPU purchases in the foreseeable future but don't panic, please don't. This also seems to not affect the current production capacity but future one's, so....... I'm not too worried. Summary In yet another sign that Intel's efforts to rebuild its engineering corps might be swift under the new incoming CEO, Intel announced today that Sunil Shenoy, a 33-year Intel veteran who left the company in 2014, will be returning to the company as the senior vice president and general manager of the Design Engineering Group. Quotes My thoughts Good news, right? In all seriousness, I hope that intel will get up and get moving. Seems that what linus said in that one WAN show is true," Key talent attracts key talent". Summary Missouri Governor Mike Parson, who was recently in the news for claiming a reporter was "hacking" a state website, after that reporter discovered SSN's and other sensitive information that were written directly in the source of the website. While this information is publicly available to anyone with a simple right click, the Gov. is now seeming to indicate prosecution of said reporter is somehow, actually moving forward. The Gov. seems to be indicating that the reporter will be charged with "Computer Tampering" Quotes My thoughts Frankly this is somewhat frightening, and shows that those in power have an insane lack of understanding of the underlying technology, and this could lead to someone facing some severe punishments for something that is absolutely 100% not a crime. ZOTAC PUBLICLY ENDORSES GPU MINING FARM IN A TWEET PC builders and gamers around the world are having a hard time getting their hands on new graphics cards and high-end CPUs. Due to increased demand and very limited supply, gamers are either expected to wait for months for things to normalize or pay extra for the hardware that scalpers got their hands on first. Now, imagine a company that sells GPUs for both AMD and Nvidia advertising a GPU mining farm that features high-end and super hard to get GPUs. Well, Zotac is the company that publicly advertised a mining farm on Twitter using its official account. In a now-deleted tweet, Zotac published a photo showing a mining rig featuring Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3070 Twin Edge graphics cards. Zotac even went ahead and tagged the photo with pro-pc gaming tags like #PcGaming, #PCMR, #PcMasterRace, etc. While these mining farms have little to do with actual gaming, Zotac’s tag feels more like an insult than praise for PC Gamers. Gamers should note that Zotac is the same company whose hardware is super hard to find and even if you are lucky to get one, it comes at a premium. It looks like the company has no intentions to fight miners and has decided to engage directly in business with miners over gamers. source: https://www.talkesport.com/news/gaming/zotac-publicly-endorses-gpu-mining-farm-in-a-tweet/

Summary IVA Computer Hardware Group (via Twitter user HXL) is reportedly selling an engineering sample of AMD's forthcoming Zen 3 (Cezanne) APUs on Weixin. The seller isn't absolutely certain of the exact model, but it could be the Ryzen 7 5700G or Ryzen 7 5750G. Quotes My thoughts Well, this is interesting that being said it seems likely these will launch next week at CES. (Also are these too many pics?) If BJP's Amit Malviya Reports Your Post, Instagram Will Take it Down – No Questions Asked Summary Seven posts by satirical account @cringearchivist were removed without any verification because the head of the BJP's IT Cell falls under Meta's controversial 'XCheck' programme. Quotes My thoughts Meta is now colluding with the Ruling Right-wing party in India and removing posts flagged by the party's IT Cell chief (a non-government post ). The ruling party runs an army of bots on social media to spread fake news and hate against the minorities, while any posts critical of them is flagged and taken down citing bizarre reasons with the help of these shameless corporations who just want to keep the Rulers happy and get their share of this huge market without any introspection. I would also like to point out that Twitter has gone to court against some takedown orders by the Indian Government. Seems like atleast someone's batting for Free Speech. https://fossbytes.com/light-emitting-silicon-eliminates-need-cram-more-transistors-cpu/amp/ Seems like physicists have made a new breakthrough. Super cool! Personally I am most excited for the possible thermal performance improvements. I wonder how long this will take to be adopted and if/when it is, will it be extremely expensive? Only for data center application rather than personal use? Where would the world go from here? I definitely hope the manufacturing process isn't something that chip manufacturers deem to be inefficient. I'm sure there is more info in the research paper, but it is behind a pay wall. CPU-Z leaked screenshot show that 8th Generation Intel i7 CPU's will have 6C/12T and run at a lower clock frequency. Anyone with a Skylake or Kaby Lake CPU will be able to upgrade to the 300 series chipset motherboards due to Intel sticking with the LGA 1151 socket. You'll also be able to use Coffee Lake processors with 100/200 series boards. There is always a chance that they will remap the pins. If they do then you'll be stuck with getting a 300 series board but that isn't such a bad thing, is it? What do you guys think about this?

https://www.eteknix.com/razer-toaster-to-finally-become-reality-after-5-years/ "Razer first announced the Razer Toaster back in 2016, and it has since garnered a cult following. There is only one problem. It does not exist. In fact, when it debuted, it was merely an April Fool‘s joke. Originally called “Project Breadwinner” However, this particular product apparently warmed some Razer fans’ heart. So much so that some have even gotten tattoos and have been launching petition after petition to get the product made. The fan-made Give us the Razer Toaster Facebook page has now reached over “1 million likes”, and there are now 12 fans with Razer Toaster tattoos. Now Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan has finally agreed to make the product. Posting on his Facebook page, he admits that he did not expect the fan page to get momentum.

Oculus co-founder is leaving Facebook after cancellation of ‘Rift 2’ headset https://techcrunch.com/2018/10/22/oculus-co-founder-is-leaving-facebook-after-cancellation-of-rift-2-headset/ "Iribe is leaving Facebook following some internal shake-ups in the company’s virtual reality arm last week that saw the cancellation of the company’s next generation “Rift 2” PC-powered virtual reality headset, which he had been leading development of, a source close to the matter told TechCrunch. Iribe and the Facebook executive team had “fundamentally different views on the future of Oculus that grew deeper over time,” and Iribe wasn’t interested in a “race to the bottom” in terms of performance, we are told." I always liked the rift and was hoping for one to come out with just USB-C soon. anyone with more info let me know please I like VR and AR and rift is one of the nicer setups hope this product is going to continue and not end up on the cutting room floor.

Vsmart, a smartphone maker in Vietnam, posted a post on their Facebook page on Monday the 31st of August announcing that they were producing their own smartphone with its own under screen camera technology, titled Vsmart Aris. The phone is said to also be using a new quantum security system by utilizing the Quantis ORNG Security Chip produced by the Swedish company ID Quantique. Translated Quotes from the company facebook page While the exact specs, pricing and release dates are unannounced, earlier this year in a 5G tech conferences in Vietnam, Vsmart showcased another version of this phone called Vsmart Aris 5G which utilized Snapdragon 765, 8gb Ram, 128gb internal memory, 4000 mah battery and a water drop cut out type selfie camera. A tech youtube channel in Vietnam titled The Pixel gave out leak information of the phones. Supposedly there will be three version of the phones, Vsmart Aris, Vsmart Aris Pro which has the hidden camera screen and uses the Snapdragon 730 chip, as well as the 5G model above. UPDATE: Vsmart just released a post containing photos of the phones in real life and samples taken from the under screen selfies: Here is the link Thoughts I find the news quite interesting to see another phones company out of China manages to get their hand onto the under screen tech, especially after doing some research into the Vsmart company. It has only existed since 2018 and mostly made low to mid end type of smartphones but has competitive specs compare to other Chinese brand in Vietnam. The brand most expensive phone is only about 180 USD but has the Snapdragon 675 chipset. So in theory they could be making the world most affordable 5G and under screen phone Sources Vsmart Facebook Announcement on the phone A Vietnamese Articles on the Aris 5G ID Quantique claims on the quantum chip Leak on the specs of Vsmart Aris by the Pixel channel

Microsoft did some changes in their anti-malware software (Defender) so that entries in the Windows hosts file containing Microsoft servers are marked as security risk. If the file is not excluded from the scan (which is not recommended) it will be replaced by the default version (which contains no entries). This behaviour was confirmed for Windows 10 1909 and 2004. Quotes My thoughts Sounds a little bit like "abuse of power" to me. I don't use the hosts file to block tracking (I use pi-hole), but still I don't like this kind of manipulations. Before the mods move this (if they are going to) hear me out I think this deserves to be in the tech new. It is based around tech. Its about one of the most important and largest us government data breaches in recent history and i think linus and luke would have an interesting discussion about this and the way the are portraying him in the movie/trailer. Just from the trailer you can already see that they are portraying him as the hero of the people against the government. Hollywood always loves the classic underdog for the people. Which means that the movie will probably be pretty two dimensional and be a good guy vs bad guy movie with not a ton of layers (think Steve jobs movie). I will say the trailer has peaked my interests and i probably will go see it. But i will reserve my full judgement of the movie until i see it. That being said from the trailer it looks like they are simplifying this a bit to much. Which is understandable most likely because the general audience is not tech savvy. But i really do hope they go more in depth.

The FAA is slightly relaxing its commercial drone regulations (section 333). They are raising the blanket (maximum) altitude for drones from 200 to 400 feet. They are also are implementing a web based registration for section 333 (commercial drone exemption) previously you would have to register with the administration's offices in oklahoma city. Personally as a commercial drone pilot i think this is a stepping stone to having a bit more lax regulations on commercial drones. But some of the rules surrounding section 333 are still absurd such as needing a minimum of a sports pilots license to fly commercially. http://gizmodo.com/the-faa-relaxes-some-rules-for-commercial-drone-pilots-1768692392

"Starting today, we are eliminating ‘Alpha Access’ and the $5 module passes. Anyone who has pledged for a Star Citizen Package can now play today without worrying they won’t have access to some portion of the ‘Verse in the future. No Star Marine pass, no Alpha 2.0 pass… no additional payment needed for any module in the works, pre-release. Going forward, should we need to put out some sort of limited release it will be done through the PTU test server. All backers will have access to any live release, the moment it publishes." https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/15007-Letter-From-The-Chairman

Hi I'm new to the forum but have watched LinusTechTips for a while now. This is my first post so I hope you like the topic. I found this article interesting thought those who have seen this technology in video games such as crisis, i,e nano suits are a form of this technology, and other games whos names escape me at the momoent of writing this. Granted this tech is expermental but it could make humanoid robots more realistic. http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/health/a3088/synthetic-muscle-made-of-fishing-line-is-100-times-stronger-than-the-real-thing-16514805/

First amendment is a checkmate Google has free speech right in search results(well..atleast one court agrees) A San Francisco court ruled last week that Google has the right to arrange its search results as it pleases, which confirms the company’s long-held position The new ruling may disappoint websites that feel they are at the mercy of Google for much of their traffic, and who would regulators to impose rules on Google. courts and regulatory bodies in the US have generally agreed that Google's search results are considered free speech. That consensus was upheld last Thursday, when a San Francisco Superior Court judge ruled in favor of Google's right to order its search results as it sees fit. How did it all start? The new ruling, which is the first since 2007 to address Google’s rights under the First Amendment, came after a website called CoastNews argued that Google had unfairly pushed it far down in its search results even though, CoastNews claimed, its site appeared at the top of results created by Bing and Yahoo. CoastNews suggested the poor rankings were because Google wanted to eliminate CoastNews as a potential competitor. The new ruling may disappoint websites that feel they are at the mercy of Google for much of their traffic, and who would regulators to impose rules on Google. Google responded by filing an “anti-SLAPP” motion, which is often used by defendants to guard against litigation that would deter free speech. In a one-paragraph ruling, Judge Ernest Goldsmith granted the request, saying CoastNews’ claims against Google related to “constitutionally protected activity.” the news is of somewhat importance because in a recent similar legal altercation with a search engine called Baidu, which was sued in America by pro-democracy activists for censoring political speech from US users. Nevertheless, the Manhattan US District judge in that case ruled that the search engine could organize its search results as it liked because it was protected by the First Amendment. First amendment or not , this gives immense power over to our favorite search results providers & they can manipulate or organize things in a way they seem fit, Google Chairman Eric Schmidt argued last month, the importance of search results may be declining at a time when more consumers are looking for information on retail sites like Amazon or on social media. this doesn't mean Google will be protected forever from other angry websites, here at home or elsewhere around the globe. But, should a similar lawsuit arise, it does allow the company to argue that a court has already agreed with it before. Good news if on good hands, bad news if they get a different idea, Google has a lot of power in this field of interweb , lets just hope they don't just outright blanket every other search term they find not worthy or even politics.. What are your thoughts on this News? Are you happy with the ruling or dissapaointed? Let me know in the comments down belooooooooooooooooooowww.. Bonus: Links: http://www.engadget.com/2014/11/17/google-search-results-first-amendment/ https://gigaom.com/2014/11/17/google-has-free-speech-right-in-search-results-court-confirms/ TLDR: Google wants to organize search items they way they like, Meaning they can pick & choose website they like to be up in the first page results, they now can ignore rival sites they think that will hurt their business it's gives Google more power to pick & choose (biased search results if they wish to)..
