Budget (including currency): 3000 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Audio Production, Harrison Mixbus, 32c, Protools, Reaper Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): looking at asrock x570 Taichi with TB add in card ryzen 7 3800x, pcie 4.0 M.2 cards( brand and size undecided), Nvidia 3000 series graphics, all be quiet cases, fans and coolers Hello kind folks, Im a new to this forum, Looking to move away from Intel but have been stuck due to my dependency on Thunderbolt. Now with the dawn of TB on the X570 boards and Ryzen Im looking to build out a new rig. Currently Running: Asus z370 prime A, I7 8700k OC 4.0, 64GB corsair 2600, nvidia 980 ti, 2 samsung M.2 NVME ( 1 500 gb for boot, 1 tb for further storage), Asus ex3 TB card. My problem is not with my computer as a wholes performance, it runs great. It is with Asus EX3 TB card. I am now on my fourth card as the previous 3 have burned out on me. Im tired of its lack of reliability and want to move to something else. I like the Ryzen 3800x for its great single core performance, my research shows this is the most important factor for an audio PC as Digtial Audio workstations have poor multi core cpu and hyper-threading abilities at this time. I use an RME UFX + for an Audio Interface, and yes it does have USB 3.0 which runs great but as my track counts go up the performance goes down faster and Latency goes up compared to TB in my experience thus far. I am Firm with sticking to TB at this time. I am very open to suggestions for MOBO's and CPU configuration. Id like to move forward with the times and Stick with an X570 MOBO to take full advantage of the bandwidth of PCIE 4.0 for TB and M.2 NVME drives. Im somewhat tech savy a but still consider myself a noob researching and finding reliable info to build on. I humbly ask your help and opinions. please give me a shout !

Know of any, fairly reliable ssd to use as mass storage drives? To get rid of the loud hdd noise wich really annoys me, capacity of 6tb or more if possible, don't really care about speed as its going tonbe faster than the hdd anyway, i guess i'll deal with whatever qlc you come across

Looking to upgrade my backup drive from 3TB to 6TB and use the 3TB drive (old backup drive) to upgrade my 2TB Data drive. The data drive are 2 1TB hard drives with the partition spanned across both drives. I want to consolidate this on a dedicated drive that's not using 2 1TB hard drives. I found a Western Digital Datacenter/Enterprise Hard drive for around $150 on ebay. The condition is Recertified by WD. Would you take a chance on this or would you look for something else? Heres a screenshot of Disk Management:

This is the cheapest way to get a 10tb hard drive for a while. The shingled nature of the drive makes it great for cheapness for the size but they don't offer it at the same price point without the case. If you want, you can rip the casing out and it's just a regular 3.5 inch HDD underneath. Brand new this one. Of course, with the new Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording drives coming out by the end of 2018, who knows if this'll be a good option even by the end of the year. We won't know. Time can only tell. P. S. pcpartpicker listing to come soon.

Hi, Just been looking on the market for a good 3'5 HDD for my NAS. So far I've been looking at Ironwolf seagate drives. Any suggestion on HDD/brands would be great.

The 1 TB HDD of my current pc, which I have had for 2 years now, is completely full. I want more space and have roughly $100 dollars to drop on it. Im also a content creator, and record high space files often, I currently have not many clips on my pc right now, but plan to have more. Should I go for a 5TB HDD or a 250 GB SSD

If you’ve been wanting as much storage as possible in an SSD form factor that doesn’t break the bank, well, you’ll have to keep waiting. But for those few with enough money to buy a private island — or at least a private data center — Seagate Technology has taken the wraps off of an unbelievable 60TB solid state drive (pictured above) at the Flash Memory Summit in Silicon Valley. The drive features a power efficiency of just 4TB/watt (15 watts total), comes in a 3.5-inch form factor packed with ultra-dense 3D NAND flash from Micron, and delivers more density than two 16TB 2.5-inch SSDs as a result. The 60TB SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) SSD is intended for large-scale enterprise data centers that need maximum storage and compute performance. With just 17 of these drives, you can hit 1PB of storage; Seagate says it’s ideal for large local or cloud-based storage arrays, active archives, online video, and read-intensive environments. According to Anandtech, the drive sports dual port 12Gb/s SAS, with sequential read and write speeds of 1.5Gbps and 1Gbps, respectively. Seagate claims the drive simplifies the process of accommodating “hot” and “cold” data, eliminating the need to separate data out for “near-term availability or long-term storage.” Seagate also says the drive can hold 400 million photos or 12,000 DVDs, and that the design can scale to a 100TB version as well. That said, the company is calling the 60TB SAS SSD a “technology demonstration,” so it may still have some work to do on the reliability side before it’s ready for sale. The Seagate 60TB SAS SSD is due to arrive sometime in 2017, the company says. As for price, we imagine it’s a classic case of “if you have to ask,” though Seagate is promising the lowest cost-per-gigabyte on the market today. Either way, the drive qualifies as literally the world’s largest SSD, almost quadrupling the size of the 16TB SSD that Samsung announced last year and began shipping this past March for a cool $10,000. At the same event, Seagate also unveiled the 8TB Nytro XP7200 NVMe SSD, which features a single PCIe interface and four separate controllers. The goal for this drive, Seagate says, is to deliver as much performance as possible using a single PCIe slot, crucial for high-performance computing in weather modeling and other types of science research. The 8TB Nytro XP7200 will arrive before the end of this year; pricing remains unknown for this model as well. Hi everyone, I checked my internet usage this morning and for some reason I have uploaded over 1 TB last month 1 feb to 29 feb with a download of 400 GB the download is a bit high usually I get 200 for that and nothing more then 100 GB up. Screenshot of both the web interface and Glasswire usage tab: https://gyazo.com/9fd72a181c047c49e74fbd52dd1a38fe like 2-3 months ago I installed Glasswire and saw that about 300 GB was from my own system but that doesn't even cover a third of all the traffic last month. I have asked my family if they have uploaded any data as far as they know. but noone seems to have uploaded any torrents at all. So I really don't know whats going on, any ideas how this is happening? Greetings Beast

Back when I built my computer, my dad had gotten me a 3TB hard drive. After I installed Windows and all was said and done, I noticed that my C drive was only 2TB in size. When I looked it up, everyone was saying that Windows could only be installed on an NTFS-formatted drive, and that NTFS supports up to 2TB. So the next thing I did was I tried to take that unallocated 750GB(you know by 3TB they don't mean REAL 3TB) and allocate it to a separate partition. As you can see, that's not possible. Does anyone know how to make it possible? Or at the very least can someone explain why I can't take that empty space and make a new partition/volume out of it?

How do I set up my HDD to be 3 TB? I've tried using seagate disc wizard but it says the drive is already using its max space (746.5GB) which is not correct at all. Obviously I've taken a wrong step and now I don't know how to fix it. Please help me!!! BTW it's a 3TB seagate Barracuda drive

Polaris point of view (skip to 1:25:15 or click here): LTT Point of view (skip to 1:03:43 or click here): So news of Dawngate (DG) shutting down has been disappointing a lot of people, TB and some Polaris cast included. LTT handled the news from a different perspective saying EA should not waste money on something that would not bring them profit or releasing something broken. Here's the thing, I'm sure neither Linus nor Luke follows DG but I for one, as a player and a fan of the game, am very disappointed that EA pulled the plug. DG HAS done well to differentiate itself from other Dota-like games and TB praises the game for it a lot. As a fan of the game but also as an individual who is very aware of EA practices, I'm on TB side with this one. EA expected DG to have immediate success on the level of LoL or Dota 2 has in a short time and since they didn't get it, they pulled the plug. That is what we would call a spoiled brat who expected results while sitting in on his bum all day. EA being huge as it is and is infamous for its marketing practices has surprisingly done very little to spread the word around, to market this product like their other titles. As a result, only a handful of people know about the game. What's worse, only recently did DG have servers outside NA, that is huge! The game had potential to gain traction from it but nope. So as a conclusion, I have to disagree with the WAN show on EA not being bad anymore. So what do you guys think if you try to look at this from both perspectives? Feel free to discuss. Edit: formatting and added poll. 11/14/14 - 1:00 PST - Dawngate farewell stream (don't know whether VoDs will be available): http://www.twitch.tv/waystonegames

Hey forum, my 1TB seagate drive has been making a high-pitched whining/buzzing (not sure how to explain, very high frequency) noise ever since I got it. I wasn't too worried about it in the beginning because I couldn't hear it with my side panel closed. But now I'm starting to hear it and I think it might be getting louder. Should/could I RMA the drive or is this like with coil-whining on graphics cards, where it isn't seen as a good enough reason to RMA by most manufacturers?

So how do I upgrade my storage to add redundancy and space, but not waste money now on space that will cost less in the future? I am familiar with RAID, but not so familiar with alternatives. I would love to get a dedicated server with all new drives, but this has the downside of a lot of cost up front, as well as wasted cost in space that will be cheaper down the road, and my current drives then become wasted. I am looking for a clever solution that does not risk data loss in the process, and will hopefully make use of hardware I already have. My current situation is as follows: Media PC - 6 on board SATA - 1 used for Blu-ray -1x 3TB Green drive - 90% full (media) - 1x 3TB barracuda - empty, waiting for install - small boot drive, and unused 250GB drive, maybe an old OS on there Main rig - 6 on-board SATA, still using an ATA optical drive! - 2x 1TB drives, in RAID 1 - 50% full (important stuff) - 1x 1TB drive - 50% full (programs, games, backup, etc.) - 1x 1TB external drive - 30% full (backup only) - Two SSDs - boot, programs, etc. 2nd rig - 160GB boot drive - 250GB 2nd drive - nearly empty I would like to spend less than $100 and a weekend. If you have a fantastic idea that costs no more than $300, I'll consider it. Budget could go towards a drive, or perhaps a controller if it would help. Oh yes, I have a 2 port controller not being used right now as well, the media case can hold 5 drives natively, main rig can hold 6, and the 2nd rig can hold 4, I believe. Let me know if more info is needed. Maybe people in the same boat as me just keep adding drives, with no redundancy or organization?? I should also add that I access data from almost every drive every day. Cheers, Edit: Gigabit LAN connects everything, accessing data from another computer is fine.

I have a 3tb external drive (Mybook from WD) and inside its a green drive I'm sure. I have it shared on homegroup from my desktop but every ten minutes if its not accessed it will sleep, and disconnect itself from homegroup. (So if I want to watch a movie of the drive on my laptop, I have to go to my desktop and "wake up" the drive before my laptop can access it. The sleep mode can't be fixed with any WD software or power options in Windows through device manager so I'm using a program called NoSleepHD or KeepAliveHD, which basically writes an empty file every ten minutes to keep the drive from going into power save mode. Will a program that keeps the HD running 24/7 reduce the longevity of my drive? I keep backups on it..

Hey, so right now I have a 2 TB Barracuda and a 3 TB WD RED Drive in my PC, before these HDD's i had others and ran into problems losing some of my data, etc. So I don't want to run into that again, so I came up with two solutions. First Solution: Get another 2 TB Barracuda and another 3 TB WD RED, and run it in RAID 1 with the drives I have. Second Solution : Get another 2 TB HDD, and another 3 TB HDD and a 2-bay NAS, and manually back up the storage on the ones I have in my computer into them. Every week or so. I am just trying to find a way where I don't resort in losing data. As I had one my HDD's fail on me and couldn't recover anything and one of them ended up getting corrupted and was a huge pain to recover the data. So, don't want to go through that again.
