Hey All, I am hoping somewhere here can help me out. I run a very basic small Synology NAS (DS-218J) at home for media. I recently filled it and added a second drive but the capacity has not increased. The original HDD was 2TB and the new one was 4TB. I added it to the same pool but it now defaulted to SHR raid type (Synology specific I believe) which only allows one drive capacity and it's using the already full drive. I want to use either JBOD or Raid 0 to get the full capacity but the function to change the Raid type is greyed out as you can see in the second image below. Any idea how I can resolve this as I now have a new HDD that's wasted? The system only has two drive bays by the way and both are now filled. So my NIC is TP-Link TX401 and in it's driver settings I can update Jumbo Packets (currently disabled), I was recommended to set this value to 9000, but the only option close to that number is 9014. And on my Synology nas I can only set this value to 9000 which I did. After that Synology NAS did restart network and I was not able to reach it from my workstation at all. Once I turned off Jumbo Packet on my PC I was able to see it again. I was recommended to turn on Jumbo Packet and set it to 9000 on both devices to get higher speed between both of them. I am currently getting 500mb/s when downloading from NAS and only between 150-320MB/s when copying stuff to NAS. NAS DS932+ with SSD 2.5 SATA drive and Synology's own 10G NiC card. Anyone got any adivce with Jumbo Packets and why on Win11 I am offered 9014? And Synologt NAS does not accept 9014 if I enter it by hand.

Guys i just have 3 question about Synology NAS. How's the security? Is it suitable for sme? Can i use it as a cloud? i mean can i access it outside of my office? If it's possible, should I use synology NAS, or is it better to use cloud services like OneDrive?"

Hi... I have a Synology NAS DS720+ with the DX517 expantion unit. The DS720+ holds and has 2 16TB ironwolf drives, while the expantion unit holds and has 5 16TB irionwolf drives. Also, the DS720+ contains 2, 2TB SSD for cashe. My question is this: Can I turn this unit into a gaming server and how would I do it? Thank you

hey i plan to buy a DS220j but before i do that i wouldl ike to know if it will work with an usb to 2.5gbit/s lan adapter will work. Is the Nas fast enought with two ironwolf 8tb hdds and will an usb 2.5gbit/s lan adapter even work? Thanks for your Answers.

Hey, Is it possible to connect a Windows 10 machine to a Synology NAS WebDAV without any other programs, just using the network mapper? It has an DualCore Intel Celeron J3355 2.0 GHz (CPU Mark 1235). Yesterday I swamped the last 4 TB with a 10 TB drive, cause my Plex Server was growing that much. Recently I keep thinking about building a dedicated Plex Server, cause my DS can only handle up to 4x12 TB drives. Right now there are 17 TB of movies in 1080p and tv shows in 720p (both HVEC Main Lvl 5.1) and almost 5 TB of Animes in H264 Lvl 4.2 on my Plex Server. So almost 22 TB and also I have JDownloader running on that DS to download files, transcode them with my gaming pc and load them into the Plex Folder. Out of the 10 users how have access to my plex server I would say 7 to 8 are using clients that can use Direct Play and the rest are using like PS3 / PS4 or some Android TV Box that cant play HVEC and need to transcode. Now the question is which hardware to use. First I had the idea to use an Icy Box IB-3810U3 which has room for up to 10x 3,5“ drives and connect that via USB 3 to an Intel Nuc or even a SimplyNuc like he did here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2q0W-glA-A The other way would be to build an own PC as a Plex Server in a Fractal Define R5 which has room for up to 8x 3,5“ drives. But I dont have any experience in setting up a RAID 5 for the first 4x 10 TB drives I would start with on both cases. Then comes to question about specs. Which CPU do I need (with Hardware Acceleration); do I even need a GPU, when I dont have any 4K files; how much RAM; Windows or UnRaid and what else am I missing to make this work? Hi everyone, I just bought a Synology DiskStation DS420j as a network backup for my mom's picture collection. (she's an amateur photographer) Currently all her pictures are on some external hard drives and... yea recipe for disaster and all that. Now, the setup is this. Got the NAS loaded with 3x 8TB WD RED Pro drives. 200 MB/s theoretical max read & write. Ran a benchmark on the nas and got 160 MB/s roughly. It's connected to a gigabit switch and her PC is also gigabit. However, the max transfer speed I'm able to get, be it upload or download, is about 10 MB/s. The CPU, RAM usage of the nas is not even breaking 20% during this and of course the pc is not having any trouble either. I also tried on two other pc's, one on LAN, one on wifi and the problem is the same. Download or upload, capped at 10 MB/s If I run two transfers at the same time they both combine to 10MB/s. The NAS is at its latest firmware etc as well. It's all brand new. I'm seriously at a loss. Where could the bottleneck be here?

Hi! So, I have an 8 bay synology NAS, at the moment they are all populated with 4tb skyhawk( that is how it came) drives. I would like to upgrade it. I want to add a 16tb seagate NAS pro. But in about a month or 2, I would like to add a 16tb exos ( know only from the time I add the 2nd 16tb will I see and increase in storage). Do you think I will have any issues? Sorry I am a complete noob when it comes to a NAS. Thanks in advance!

I recently upgraded my router to the Netgear x10 which has a built in Plex server. I have also been wanting to save all my physical media (movies, tv series) digitally and stream it using my routers Plex server. What would be the best way to store all the media? I do have some external HDD's but figured it would be better to use a NAS. I saw that Synology makes reliable NAS devices, which one would you recommend? this is the first time I setup a NAS.

OK so just got my first IOT device (an ecobee thermostat) so I made an IOT network, so I now have a main network and an IOT network fully separated, now I have a Synology NAS that has 2 Ethernet ports, one connected to the main network set as the main adapter, and the other one is connected to the IOT network, what I would like to do is have things like the Philips hue controller and such running in dockers on the NAS but have those docker containers only have access to the IOT network, not the main network, but I also want to be able to have things like Minecraft servers in docker containers on the main network. how would I achieve this if it is possible at all?

I have a Synology DS218+ with a WD 4tb hard disk. 95% of it is full so I want to add another hard drive. I bought a 6tb seagate NAS hard drive. Plugged it to the bay 2 and switched on the server. Went to the Storage manager, storage pool, clicked add drive and applied the new drive. While the hard drive was loading I got a notification saying System failed to create [Volume 2](Device Type is [SHR]) with disk [Drive 2].. I want to add 6tb more for my existing hard drive. Appreciate if you can advise how to. Thanks and sorry for my bad English.
