  1. i was wanting to know if network switches slow down internet connections the more computers connected to it
  2. I have done quite a bit of research on keyboards but I am still confused with which one to buy. I've been using a rubber dome keyboard but wanted something better than the one I'm currently using that isnt too loud, So I started looking at MX red silents. I want a keyboard that comes with a wrist rest and liked the look of the razer ornata chroma but after research people don't seem to like it, I don't know if that's just because of the rubber domes or if there are other issues to hate on it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  3. im looking for the right switch for me. i want a silent linear switch. i like the sound of the Zeal Rosélios. anything similar?
  4. I think just about everyone in my life is tired of my clicky blues and wants me to get a new keyboard. Any recommendations for someone who types a lot. My only experience has been with Kaihl and Cherry blues so I don't particularly prefer them rather i'm just used to them.
  5. Hi! I have been thinking about getting the ducky one 2 mini. https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=5027. This is the site I was seeing it from. I thought that the ducky only came with Cherry MX switches. For some reason, kailh pro and a type of box switches are also an option for the ducky. When you choose a kailh switch for the ducky, it says kailh switches restock on March 5. I thought that was weird, because I thought you could only get Cherry switches with the ducky. Is it some kind of exclusive offer with mechanicalkeyboards.com, or is it a glitch or scam? Any information would be welcomed. Thank you!
  6. Hi, and welcome to my highly-anticipated guide on how I lube MX-style mechanical keyboard switches, featuring the Cherry Black as it's my most recent and first Cherry switch, and it's black so it will show the lube in harsh lighting the best, which is crucial as this will be an image-heavy tutorial to show exactly where I have applied lube on the switch. This will be a guide on how I personally lube MX-style switches, and may differ from other hobbyists. I use this method for all types of switches, whether they are linear or tactile, the process is the same. I also use Krytox 205g0 lube in this tutorial, which is a notoriously rigid and thick lube, so for 205g0, you must apply less than you already would with a thinner lube such as Tribosys 3204 or 3203. As a frequent switch luber, going from an unlubed switch to a lubed switch is crucial for switch typing feeling, and I highly recommend you try lubing yourself to feel the benefits. Lubing a single switch should take around 1 minute if you have the technique down to a second nature, and you will have to repeat this process 60-100 times depending on how large your keyboard is, so prepare a a few hours to properly lube all your switches. Do not rush the process as inconsistent lube across your switches can mess up your typing experience as some keys will feel smoother, scratchier, stickier, or heavier than others. Take your time and make sure all of your lube jobs are done with care and attention. WIthout further ado, let's begin and I will show you how I lube my MX-style keyswitches. Here are the items you will need to start the lubing process: MX switch of your choice - I am using Cherry Black Thin paintbrush Lube of your choice - I am using Krytox 205g0 Krytox 205g0 Switch opener - This is an ai03 switch opener that I got from KBDfans KDBfans x ai03 2-in-1 Switch Opener In my case, to take apart the switch, I simply use the four-fanged side of the ai03 opener and ensure the logo on the switch is facing the keyring so the four legs on the top housing are on the fangs. I simply press down and the switch will open itself. If you do not have an opener, you can also use a flat-head screwdriver and wedge the screwdriver in between the switch housings to open up the switch. When opened up, the switch should consist of four components, from left to right: Bottom housing Top housing Spring Stem We will be lubing these components in this order, as I find this order makes the most sense to maintain consistency, efficiency, and minimise sticky fingers. To begin, I dip my brush in the lube, I make sure that all my bristles are covered in a thin film of the lube. I like to have a bit more on my brush than others so that I feel the effects of the lube even more once the lubing process is done and I type on my keyboard. Ideally, you'd want just enough that you can see the bristles are damp with the lube. I start by taking the bottom housing: I lube the slider columns at each side of the housing, ensuring there is a visible film of lube on each of the slider columns I also lube the outside of the center pole to ensure the spring once re-attached does not wobble or experience ping When I have completed the bottom housing, it should look something like this: The slider columns are nice and covered in lube The center pole is also covered For the spring, I find I have enough lube left over from the lubing the housing to lightly coat the spring in the remainder of the lube on the brush. For the spring, I lube the top of the spring and put it back into the housing with the lubed side facedown to meet the center pole. Once the lubed side of the spring is put back into the housing, I then lube the exposed top side which is sticking up from the housing and lube that side with the remainder of the lube that I have on my brush. When the spring is complete, it should look like this: Column sliders coated Center pole coated Spring top and bottom coated For the stem, I reload my brush with lube once more, but this time with an even thinner coat than for the housing and spring, since too much lube can ruin the feel, especially in the stem where it's the part that moves the most. I start by lubing the sliders of the stem, making sure the entirety of the side is covered in a thin coat of the lube. It should look like this: I then also lube the front, which should look like this: Note that since this is a linear switch, it is okay to lube the legs If this was a tactile switch like a Cherry MX Brown, do not lube the legs as you lose tactility And finally, the back of the stem as well as the bottoms of the stem walls too: I then place the stem back into the spring, making sure I do not touch the sides of the lubed stem. And that's it, that is how I lube MX-style mechanical keyswitches. When all is said and done, it should finally look like this: Housing slider columns coated Housing center pole coated Spring top and bottom coated Stem walls, side, front, legs, & bottom coated Now, all that is left to do is put the top housing on, and you have now completed lubing an MX-style switch. I hope this was a helpful guide on how to lube MX-style mechanical keyboard switches, I had been meaning to make one for a while and I finally got the time to make one. I feel like I have made a guide that is easy enough to follow that anybody who wants to try getting into lubing their swithces can follow through with ease. Like I said at the beginning, this is how I personally lube my switches, and my technique may differ from other hobbyists in the mechanical keyboard scene, and that's okay, because this method I feel comfortable with and I'm sure anybody who follows this guide would enjoy the result this method of switch lubing delivers. Thank you for reading my very image-heavy guide, and happy lubing!
  7. Hello, I'm doing my Cisco CCNA these days and in the introductory classes, I have been taught by an instructor that the easiest way to identify a Cisco Switch from a router is that they do not have a power on/off switch. I asked why, but I didn't get a proper answer. So I came home and googled it. There were various answers to this but none of them looked like a solid answer. Some say that Cisco acquired a company called Catalyst who were making switches, to make Cisco Catalyst series switches. They say Cisco continued to use the same layout that catalyst used when they made switches on their own. Since catalyst were making switches without a power button Cisco switches also dont have it. (Didnt know this Cisco acquiring another company named Catalyst story until now) Some say routers dont have parts that are hot-swappable. So they need a power button to be turned off. And then the final one I saw was that, network devices such as switches should always be on, hence it has no need for a power button. (If this is a valid reason, then why does Routers have a power switch? They are network devices too. ) I also saw another comment stating that he was asked this question in an interview and didnt know how to answer. Dont want that to happen to me. What do you think the reason for this is?
  8. I ordered a Varmilo VA108M Sakura Keyboard with Silent Red switches, and after some time I want to convert two of those switches to normal Red switches. (For private, gaming reasons) In theory this should work, since the Silent Red switch is just the Red Switch with an additional rubber piece to dampen the sound. I could just open the switch up, remove/grind down the rubber, and close it back up. I just want to hear someone else's thoughts on my little project. I have some media keys that I never use that I will practice on first, but we'll see. I've looked around and nobody else has done this, so I'm flying blind. Could this possibly work? I know there will be people asking, "WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THIS?!" Well, don't think about the why just think about the if and how.
  9. Looking for an unmanaged switch that supports 24-to-48 1gigabit ports(rj45) with 2-to-4 extra 10gigabit ports(rj45/sfp/sfp+, preferably rj45). Any legit brand will do. Thanks in advance. Edit: And also an unmanaged switch that supports 24 10gigabit ports. Thanks again
  10. Hello, I want to replace the switches in my Steel Series Apex. What switches can I go with. I would like to go with Novel Jade's. But if it doesn't fit I would like a recommendation on a switch that will fit that is similar to that if possible. Thank you, Jake
  11. BYK816 - Is used in the kogan mechanical keyboard $39 aud outemu red keyboard https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-full-rgb-mechanical-keyboard-red-switch/ I'm wondering if it has swappable switches, there is very little information online but if anyone could tell me the switches are switchable are not please tell me, according to the support at kogan it may require soldering.
  12. I got a red dragon k552 and not going to lie like the frame and want to change the switches to novel switches. I want to know if red dragon supports other switches before I buy them. Thank you, Jake
  13. Hello friends, My dog and I are currently working on doubling the world record (1026 words) for most words learned by a dog. My dog is currently 9 months old and knows around 220 words. Most of these words are the names of objects, mostly stuffed animals. In addition to that he can also operate switches on command which brings us to my current project. I been working on building him a Bluetooth media controller so he can play music, skip and reverse tracks and make phone calls when given a verbal command. So far the best way I've found to build this media controller is to hack apart a inexpensive Bluetooth speaker and solder new wires and switches onto the PCB. The reason I need to solder new switches is so I can space them apart so the dog can operate them. I was able to solder wires to the "Phone Call" micro switch contacts and it works. However I was unable to remove the switch that is is still soldered to the PCB. The best switches I've found for dogs are these foot pedal switches below or large arcade style push button switches (not pictured). This way it is easier for the dog to operate them with his nose or paw. For this project I built wood "toppers" with each media icon. I want to mount these on top of the new switches (pictured below). The micro switch on the PCB has 4 contacts connecting it to the PCB.The larger switches I have have only two wires attached and since the PCB has 4 contacts for each micro switch i'm not sure how to connect two wires to 4 contacts. This is the Bluetooth speaker PCB that I soldered the wires to that lead to another 4 contact micro switch. Example of a foot pedal switch the dog uses for turning on the TV. I think the switch I need for this project though is a momentary DPST push button switch (can anyone confirm that?) Here is an example of a switch I think that might work that I found on ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Pcs-22mm-Plastic-Momentary-Push-Button-Switch-10A-440V-1NO1NC-DPST-RED-GREEN/292918333004?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item44334b0e4c:g:n5kAAOSw4zdcO-Fr&enc=AQAEAAAB4BPxNw%2BVj6nta7CKEs3N0qWaz%2FiYzfDWYiTmgyvwYmdnRlNFR9lroQfczXO9BUUO%2F4%2BNUdJl3QR3aAH8XCJ7a4SdX6JPAvMu0ZxkNocm8OfNuaywesd9W3wXlv%2BjgTQAw6GPeVPpguCtrwDbYB8Ui2dLXfI6WV%2Bm8ZZLl84vEWJqLW7xG3fJHdGGwRd0Pcegt04QeUmzAv5Hr0K%2FbYWbqswXX3MDc%2Bu3JddpOYNnyXjQEGgStuwh7YFdV1A0BlPQ4JvEra01ib%2B63ei7g0b%2BDaxQpiTlohExJ7oC482R4k0a%2FNe82r86YX00a9MhW1%2BMqz2Fe%2BLDQKTXAhmVV5vrioimnqAj3ZWkw%2FAwvoOXfMJ3rSuWGRmXKQA%2BBnX7pfrDat4ScoXVp1BjsEPgXwEM3%2BIWf77XT%2B2Tq5S28PwoGynK0jbLAj88gcAtiAVy1r7PWZKfkcmnMTBVl4YrG5hemh7K0jblpmjyxBRkRTLAhaTzfTLm1ZIaayz8IeWo9vEyFgyX5GkVQ2mcZ6KyW5jJh0aqtVTp3QmX%2BtDDfPIHQSdhqtRBXyFTdWX0IxLTiXr257tJsQMooDZDDaHDxzPZZmLBSM99JGMOKsiq10nLm4U7TYireM%2BofK5BaJbBVjVNvQ%3D%3D&checksum=292918333004ed2e4f85019842d38fdf3e3eeeb23e43 As mentioned earlier I was able to solder wires that lead to another micro switch and it worked. However I am worried that the dog could potentially break the switch because it is so small. I made wood buttons that I plan to attach on the top of each micro switch. These buttons with sit recessed in the white wood panel shown below. I used phosphorescent powder for the icons so they would glow in dark and each button is coated in a food safe poly resin. Here are the wooden buttons I want to mount to the top of each switch. The wooden icons are spaced 3" apart. This type of mini electronic work is not my expertise and I'm not sure if there is a better way to make this.I have never used a Arduino or RasberryPi but thought that might be be viable for this project? My main questions are... What type of switch is needed for this project? Does anybody see an easier way to make a media controller for a dog other than soldering new switches to a Bluetooth speaker? If anyone has any suggestions I'd like to hear them. I don't mind starting over if it means it will be better for my pup.
  14. I was wondering if it's possible to build a mechanical keyboard from a prebuilt mechanical keyboard? For example a cheap mechanical keyboard like reddragon
  15. I know a decent amount about mechanical keyboard switches, but I need some help. I have a K70 mk1 with Cherry MX Reds. I can't stand typing on it anymore but I can't return it because I purchased it awhile ago. I'm looking to purchase new switches so that I can desolder the current switches and put in new ones. What kind of switches will fit and will all switches work with the iCue software? I was looking at the Kailh Box Royal switches from NovelKeys but their page says that only work with SMD lighting. What does that mean and are they compatible with the K70 pcb?
  16. I am coming from a razer membrane keyboard I am about to get into mechanical. I am looking at Cherry speed silvers, are they clicky and good? Any other switch recommendations? Thanks, Jack
  17. https://www.strawpoll.me/16064643 Currently I am using the Ducky One keyboard with Mx Blues and I think that I need to e x p a n d on my current keyboard collection. Any ideas?
  18. Okay, I know this question sound like a noob question, that is because it is. Some websites told me a switch connect many devices to the same network, and the switch is connected to the router. But why do people need switches, I mean why can’t they just connect directly to the router? Is the switch just a Ethernet splitter?
  19. I need to extend my gigabit network 20m away from the router to connect to my new home office. Already got the single ethernet cable ran. Is this the most efficient way it can be done? Will PC 2 receive the full gigabit network speed? Are the devices I've listed most practical for this use? (If not, bare in mind I don't want to spend hundreds on getting this running). Devices: Gigabit Switch (TP-LINK TL-SG1005D) Access Point 450mbps (TP-LINK TL-WA901ND) (Black lines is Cat5e cable) Any advice is greatly appreciated.
  20. I've got an interesting problem in which I have two circuits. For simplicity, let say that circuit A powers an LED at 3.3v with a switch, and circuit B powers a load at 5v. Circuit A is in fact a voltage regulated portion of circuit B. Now lets say I want to be able to complete circuit A and have the LED on but the switch for completing circuit A will only function while circuit B is off. So if I have chosen to turn on the LED, once I complete circuit B (giving power to A) I can no longer turn circuit A off until circuit B is off again. Essentially, I only want to be able to use/interact the switch on circuit A while circuit B is open. Once circuit B is closed, whatever position the switch for circuit A is in, will remain in that position until circuit B is opened again. Thanks for any help!
  21. Good day! My mechanical keyboard; The GAMEDIAS HERMES l E1 (Combo Edition) Single key is not functioning well which is the W key. as I did 2 tests with it. such as the notepad test (spamming the W key in several patterns), and the gaming test (Fortnite & CS:GO) I noticed that the key would not function properly. when I press it once it wouldn't work. but double tapping or harder presses would make it work. the same in CSGO & Fortnite; I would be running in-game and would stop immediately in the middle of the run and after 2 seconds my player could run again. I am not sure if it's a software malfunction or a hardware malfunction. please kindly help me with this problem. I'm trying to fix it before returning it to the store I bought it from. I need clarifications and fixes if possible. Thanks!
  22. There are 3 options to pick from and i'm not really experienced in this field. Which switch would be considered to have better performance. From what i've gathered, it would most likely be the Cisco, however i'd like some input from other people as well. - Cisco Catalyst 3560 Series WS-C3560-24TS-S Switch - Allied Telesyn AT-FS724i - 3Com Baseline Switch 2226 Plus
  23. Hi all! I'm looking to buy a 24-port Gigabit switch for my home network and I'm looking at this: http://www.miro.co.za/catalogue/edimax-24-port-gb-switch-2-sfp/ Can someone explain to me what the heck is SFP? P.S. Techquickie should do a video on this
  24. I was contemplating getting this mechanical keyboard: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Water-Resistant-VicTop-Mechanical-Waterproof-Anti-ghosting/dp/B01DBYNVSY/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1480100582&sr=1-4&keywords=mechanical+keyboard It comes with blue gaeote switches but I can't really justify spending £80+ on a keyboard with cherry mx blues or browns. Does anyone have any experience with these switches. How they feel compared to cherry's and are they as durable etc.... Also, can this keyboard can have its key caps replaced down the line with cherry compatible key caps because the stems look pretty similar from the photo. Opinions are appreciated! Thanks.
  25. Hi I have a Zowie EC1 eVo, I love this mouse but the side buttons just aren't what they used to. When I click one in lightly and I hear the click nothing will happen. If I press the click in all the way it will either click or double or triple click. Both of these side buttons do this I was thinking it was the switches being worn out. I've heard of people repairing switches on their mice but how do I know what switches I should get? Or is this an entirely different problem?
