  1. Budget: $2000 Programs or workloads that it will be used for: an excess amount of internet browser tabs, beam.ng, GTA6, tarkov, 3dsmax, blender, CNC programs, mainly heavy gaming looking to build my forever computer, $2000 budget, would be dope to keep it around $1500 I have no parts leftover from my last computer so I'm starting over. I have a ton of free time with how the market is so I'll be using the computer alot for the next year or so, possibly daily. also any monitor suggestions? was thinking maybe a regular monitor then a monitor that's tilted, whatever they're called. also if you know anything about mouses, keyboards, headsets let me know lol, I don't have a setup at all currently, thanks
  2. BACKGROUND I am the IT of my house. I manage the network and deal with the subsequent issues. About 3 years ago I purchased the best of the best TP-Link Archer AX10000 router to go with our brand new symmetrical fiber gigabit. The router is located in the basement and was having issues reaching the middle and top floor. About a year and a half ago I purchased 2 range extenders compatible with the TP-Link OneMesh system, an RE505X and an RE605X. PROBLEM For the past few months our network has been absolute hell. Seemingly random connection drops from wireless AND wired. One device getting a perfect connection while another cannot load a webpage. BG3 will kick whoever I am playing with every 10-20 minutes. Wi-Fi is significantly worse than wired but neither are functioning as I would hope. Sometimes restarts temporarily fix the issue but other times do nothing. I tried decoupling the networks from OneMesh but when I do that the 5Ghz channel is seemingly not getting a boost from the range extender. The ISP claims there is nothing they can do and all their equipment is functioning properly. This has been such a frustrating process but I have some theories about what is happening. My potential theories: 1. The router is failing 2. The router got a firmware update that screwed things up 3. The network extenders plus OneMesh is making the network too complicated 4. Somehow my server computer running game servers is messing up the rest of the network 5. The ISP is actually the issue and they either are lying or don't realize it NEXT STEP Do any of those make sense? Is there any more troubleshooting I can do to remedy this? What would be my best wireless solution for my house? I am looking for any and all help or ideas.
  3. Budget: About $2,000 (would like stay around there and not go over to much.) Country: US Games/Programs/Workloads that it will be used for: Games, Streaming, Video Editing, and art programs such as Clip Studio and Krita. (Games don't have to be running at complete maxed out settings. With 4k and max ray tracing and all that.) I've done so research and watched some videos and reviews and i think this is a solid build should last awhile but I'm open to suggestions. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XG48mD (Below are parts if link doesn't work,) CPU : Intel Core i7-13700K 3.4 GHz 16-Core Processor($389.00) CPU Cooler: Deepcool LS720 SE WH 85.85 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($96.98) Motherboard : Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE X WIFI7 ATX LGA1700 ($259.99) Memory : TEAMGROUP T-Force Delta RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory ($109.99) Storage : SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 2280 2TB PCIe Gen 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.3 V-NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) ($168.99) Video Card : SAPPHIRE PURE Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB GDDR6 PCI Express 4.0 x16 ATX Video Card ($519.99) Case : Lian Li Lancool 216 RGB White Steel/Tempered Glass ATX Mid Tower Computer Case. ($99.99) Power Supply : EVGA SuperNOVA 850 GT, 80 Plus Gold 850W, Fully Modular ($109.99) OS : Windows 11 Home. ($114.99) Total : (Not including sales, promo discounts or shipping costs.) $1923.92 I'm not including extra accessories/monitors, more fans besides cpu cooler and what comes with case, or extra storage (I plan on getting extra fan or two and storage later down line eventually.) Summary: Looking for Mid range sized gaming/streaming/editing/ PC. I was going for an almost full white build cause I like the look. I think this is suitable but would like some feedback. Also question regarding GPU i have listed its a DDR6 so will it be slowed or not run as well with DDR5 ram?
  4. Hey guys, I'm struggling to find a good replacement for my old Xiaomi Mi Max 3. I'm currently using a Xiaomi Mi 11 something or other, and while I like it, I miss the screen size of the old Mi Max 3. They have discontinued that series but I'm hoping to find a new phone that's similar in some ways: - Relatively cheap (under $800 AUD or so, I'm lenient) - Large screen - Higher refresh rate (90hz+) - Decent speakers would be nice, I don't use headphones in bed - Good battery life (Mi Max had 5500 mAh, so around there) - Something with a bit of a lifespan, I'll use it for at least 3 years - Android (I'm used to MiUI but any android will do, not a fan of iPhones) I don't care about the camera at all, and I won't do any gaming or heavy use whatsoever. I only use my phone to scroll instragram and watch shows in bed, and listen to music. Hopefully there are people out there who appreciate a good phablet and have some suggestions for me to check out. Thanks in advance for the help!

  8. Hi Everybody! Well, I joined up. Finally. So I'll admit that I'm rather naive towards forums in General. I guess Reddit is my best personal reference when it comes down to forums. Point is, I decided to sign up as a way of showing some support, insight and mostly just because I want to be apart of the LTT community and such. I've managed to set up my profile with ease as it's pretty straight - forward. I'm trying to whether or not one can have a personalized feed and such. I've been trying to follow various topics and such and would like to try navigate through them in a more relevant time and relevant, present time topics. Does anyone feel the need to perhaps tell/show if and how to set up a personalized feed?
  9. Hello, I need suggestions for laptops for a senior software engineer. Requirements: 1. 700-900 $ USD 2. A Long battery life 3. High Performance. 4. He does not play videogames so not very particular about a GPU 5. A big screen (15'?) 6. Light-weight 7. Durable please help. Thank you for suggestions in advance
  10. Hello everyone. I'm making this post as a last resort. I'm going into electrical engineering in the fall, and I am in need of a capable machine. My desktop, what I was going to use for my more intensive work, is out of commission, and I figured I'd be better to spend the money I would use fixing it on a good laptop. My goals with said laptop were to find a machine that was current gen, extremely capable, and good on battery, and ideally one that I wouldn't have to upgrade before my program finished. I thought I'd found the perfect machine when I saw reviews for the Lenovo Slim Pro 9i (Yoga Pro 9i outside of NA). Specs and performance wise it is the perfect machine. The problem is I don't think I'm ever going to get one. The laptop was "In stock and ready to ship" when I ordered it a few weeks ago. Then it went out of stock. Now it says it's shipping in two weeks on their store. The support agents have talked to have had no idea what's going on. None of them are any help whatsoever. I finally spoke to someone who could maybe help today on the phone, and he told me they were, in fact, very out of stock, and shipping them in from China, and that I'd be lucky to get it in September. That obviously doesn't work at all. So I need a replacement option. The problem is I don't know what to get. A Dell XPS 15 is an obvious choice at first glance, but I've read that they have poor thermals and severely undervolt the GPU, which makes it pointless for me. This needs to be an almost-everything machine for me, and I'm not afraid to drop a few bands, but I need to be confident in my purchase, and the problem I'm having is that on paper nothing really compares to the Slim Pro 9i. Do you folks have any suggestions? I need something with 32 gbs of RAM (less is fine if it's upgradable), 1 tb of storage (again, less is fine if it's upgradable), a 13th gen i7 or comparable Ryzen, a 4050 or better, and nothing smaller than 14". The screen resolution doesn't matter as much, but I'd prefer 1440p or 3k. Thanks for any and all help. EDIT: Sorry I should've specified, my budget is 2-4k CAD, though I'd prefer to spend in the 2-3k CAD range, and I live in Canada.
  11. Hello all, i have two dell OptiPlex's (a 7010 with 3rd gen i7 and a 790 with 2nd gen i5). I am looking to upgrade their CPUs, but want some opinions first. This is to my knowledge all the cpus that will work in these machines: LGA 1155 cpu list – all processors Intel: Xeon, Core I7,Core I5, Core I3, Pentium, Celeron – FCLGA1155 socket (specifications) – CPU-LIST.COM The 7010 is being used as a server (for Virtual Machines and data ingest from Hard Drives and the like to images on a separate NAS) The 790 is being used for small games, content creation, etc. (will have rx550 i think eventually ) I've never used Xeon so if anyone has experience, please let me know how they perform and how they compare to intel core CPUs. I'm open to any and all suggestions.
  12. Hello guys, I'm in the market for a new phone and I have a two phones in mind, the S21 FE 5G or the S20 FE, any thoughts which phone I should get? Thanks in advance.
  13. What is a ratchet advance screwdriver? I'm happy you asked! It's just a screwdriver that spins faster than the handle. Of course, it also works as a normal ratchet. Why does it matter? Because I'm a pc tech that charges by the hour, and I don't want to waste customer time or money. Plus, they sure do seem to appreciate actively SEEING that I'm going fast. Of course, those aren't the only benefits. I work on a lot of stuff, including firearms, pcs, vehicles and 3d printers. I use it on everything, because it's so convenient. One thing I love is that you can quickly drive the ratchet with one hand, so you can hold an item with one hand and ratchet advance with the other. Video attached. https://youtu.be/v4FlYdW_z0o
  14. I'm planning to upgrade my gpu in a few months. And i know the cpu is traditionally a bottleneck but my gpu has hit 100-99% usage before easy. Whats a good gpu to keep up without losing a lot of performance cause bottleneck? I do not plan on building another pc. I have a 4k capable display with an hdmi port but i normally play at 1080p 60 fps. My display is supposedly capable of 120hz but no refresh rate change option on ubuntu so just 60 for me. Id probably play at 4k if my pc could handle it. And my pc's bios lacks "rebar" so 40 series, and arc may be bad choices also the 40 and 30 series use pci 4.0 so i feel like taht in itself id a bottleneck. My board is a z390. Current specs: 8086k(no overclock unless os does it automatically)+ 8gb ram(had 16 but slots died). Ssd 480gb, or nvme 120gb and external hard drive. Os: ubuntu unity 22.04
  15. The iOS app is pretty bare bones from what I hear and there isn't a whole lot of functionality in it. I've heard Luke talk about how difficult App Store review is and how they've had to gut their app just to make it available. I would argue it would just make more sense to abandon iOS all together and just have iOS users use the website, albeit through a PWA (Progressive Web App) from their home screen. This is the same way that Xbox game streaming works on iOS, and while not perfect, it does a decent job and emulating the app look and feel. This wouldn't be hard to do, they just have to add a couple of lines of code to their manifest.json file. I download the website HTML added a manifest.json file and tested it on my iPhone and it acts pretty app like from what I was able to test. Here's what the login screen looks like: I would argue that it is a much better experience than the current iOS app, and they don't have be subject to Apple's dumb App Store rules. Not to mention they could add more app-like features like bottom button navigation. Of course I'm not on their development team though so I may be overlooking something that has made this not possible, but from what I can see it seems like a solid way to go. What do you folks think?
  16. Budget (including currency): $1600 Country: USA USE: 2D Animation/Gaming There are a number of websites that sell pre-built computers but I'm not sure which to get from and whether or not I'm better off going to microcenter in person. Does anyone have any suggestions during our current computer climate?
  17. Preface I recognize that the suggestions I will make here are neither innovative nor timely, however it is not until several events have materialized that I am moved to compose this list. The first of these is the realization that the current supply conditions of computer hardware will not improve in considerable time, as many may be aware by now. This has led me to reflect on what it is that I truly expect from video games; what are the things I enjoy more from the games I play? Of course, many have already suggested/declared that they may look into their "backlog" of video games and play those until the time when the market conditions allow them to upgrade their systems. These thoughts are not of my own design and I take no credit for having created them. However, it is the following two considerations that warrant this list. The first is that there are undoubtedly people that do not have a so-called "backlog" of games to fall unto and may just as well give up on PC gaming because of it (a series of events nobody should wish for in this forum, surely). Those that, for whatever reason, cannot afford the devices they want/need, should not be dissuaded from partaking in our common hobby simply because of conditions beyond their control. The second consideration is as well a current obstacle that this list will hopefully overcome; there exists little in what I have seen in this forum directing the promotion of "great" games towards those who have extremely limited hardware (dual-core CPUs, ancient/non-existent GPUs, etc.). I understand that there are topics dedicated to just that and if this were the only issue this particular topic would not exist. However, I strongly believe it is important to give greater visibility to these games now and rather than create endless threads of how one should not buy something now we should be motivating the community to explore and recommend games that need not the highest frame-rates and bring forth the best of PC gaming. I suggest in replacing the perspective of a lack of hardware with a preponderance of software, and so it is to this end that I make these personalized recommendations. Disclaimer: I have no stake in any of the developers, publishers, or parent companies that hold any title to any of the games mentioned whatsoever and stand to gain nothing from their success. These recommendations are made in the interest of PC gaming and entertainment. Darkest Dungeon: This game is as fun as it is punishing, utilizing roguelike and RPG elements to manage a dungeon-crawling team. The Gothic atmosphere and art design are (imo) second to none and the sidescroller design creates tons of tension when exploring the monster-infested dungeons. Gameplay consists of slight micro-managing and critical decision-making; every detail is important and every expense spared is paid for in blood. Best of all, it can run on any PC as long as it has a x86/x64 architecture; that's it, that's all you need for this game. It is totally worth it at the $24.99 retail but can be frequently found for less than half that price. Pros: System requirements are literally "potato", gameplay is addictive, can be played with controller/kb+m and even just the mouse, no microtransactions, excellent (and creepy) soundtrack. Cons: Your team will die. A lot. GRIS: This is the epitome of what it means to be an "artsy-game". It's a 2D platforming puzzle(ish) game with an abstract yet heart-moving story, but by far the best thing is the art style. Playing the game is, in a way, interacting with a canvas. You'd have to play the game because I don't want to spoil too much about the game, the story is really that special (at least to me). None of the puzzles are irritatingly hard or boringly simple, with every "stage" representing a perfect amount of difficulty. As long as you have a dual-core, integrated graphics and $17 you are ready for GRIS. Pros: Music by Berlinist (the good stuff), also available on Mac OS if that's your thing, great and (possibly) relatable story, doesn't need high-end hardware to hit 60 wallpapers-per-second. Cons: Relatively short, not a lot of replay value except for getting great screenshots. Hades: Ok, you've probably already heard of this game to death so I'll keep it brief. Son of Hades wants to break out of Hell and the gods help him along the way with different abilities, boss fights and excellent characters in a roguelike action game. Honestly it's pretty cool and as long as you have 8GB of system RAM and a dedicated GPU it is a good buy at $25. Pros: Great gameplay and soundtrack, stylish character designs, lots of replay value. Cons: It can be a little hard to figure out at first, trial-and-error learning can be frustrating late-game. Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak: This prequel to the beloved Homeworld series brings the best elements of the 4X genre to the ground-based RTS genre. It's a great place to start if one is unfamiliar with the RTS genre and has an amazing campaign to boot (with a great plot-twist if you've played the previous games). Instead of the traditional base-building mechanics these are supplemented with the carrier mobile bases that tread along the vast desert planet. The maps are on the smaller side of what is customary for RTS games but this means fights are not prone to getting needlessly long and the campaign is still plenty long. It is a bit steep in price ($49.99 retail) but on sale it is definitely worth the buy and can run well on anything above a low-end Maxwell GPU and a dual-core CPU. Pros: Amazing story (and not just for an RTS), combat feels impactful and good strategy is rewarded, level design is surprisingly varied for a desert. Cons: Some missions are a bit overzealous with the enemy spawn rate, might want to stay away if you don't like sand. Hyper Light Drifter: A 16-bit style game with the high-octane action of a AAA title, this game is more of a love-letter to the classic Zelda games but with the difficulty cranked up to 11. The art style is really charming and the soundtrack (by Disasterpeace) is worthy of a disk release. It has a fun variety of weapons and skins (cloaks) to change playstyle and lots of hidden areas and achievements for (possibly) hundreds of hours of entertainment. I comes in all flavors too; Windows, Mac and Linux. LINUX! Pros: Fast-paced gameplay, dashing>>>running, epic boss fights, replay value for weeks, all for 20 bucks. Cons: Can be difficult in the beginning, best played with a gamepad; kb+m work but..., still haven't 800 dash (◕︵◕). Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2005): The man, the Myth, The LEGEND. This game runs on anything with DirectX 9 support and to this day plays just like the simulations. Chances are you've played this game at some point, but have you played it with... mods? The graphics mods, gameplay and map overhauls put this game up there with the best today and it still has a substantial playerbase. Also, since it is a really old and lacks any type of competitive scene the general toxicity is virtually nil. For ten bucks (or $5 on sale) it's a great game to just sit down, set 'em up and knock 'em down. Pros: Runs buttery smooth, mods galore, Heroes vs. Villains is illegal amounts of fun, The Force will be with you, always. Cons: Looks dated without graphics mods, you didn't watch those wrist rockets ᇂﮌᇂ). VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action: Cyberpunk! Bartender! Action! For the visual novel fans this is a must-play. It's surprisingly mature for its anime-esque appearance and quirky characters but is extremely engaging. Instead of choosing a dialogue option, you interact with characters through the drinks you serve them. You can serve drinks based on what they ask you or what you think they really want/need. It's a perfect game for relaxing and staying comfy indoors. Runs on potatoes, costs as much as a bag of potatoes, infinite playtime. Pros: Branching storylines, hilarious characters, EveryDayIsNight.wav, DOROTHYNQUISITION. Cons: If you don't like visual novels, I guess... These are my suggestions for those that are still undecided between yielding to a scalper or looking for other games to play. Chances are, your computer can run these games and if you do not have them I encourage you to try them out. My hope is that these events turn the masses of PC gamers to give more renown for less-flashy games and perhaps even create a collective consciousness behind what games we, as a community, like to play and what we want from them. I would love to hear your own suggestions on what "low-spec" games you like to play and would like others (and me) to try.

  19. hello guys, i need some thoughts /opinions on this matter, i currently have this case but im on the search for something better, sadly my country has limited choices so im gonna show you what i currently own and if this is okay , and if not how to change it? needless to say my current case has terrible cable management if none. also if you wanna look of the desktop cases that i could get ill leave some links of the stores directly to the "cases" section so you can perhaps suggest one as a secondary opinion on this. https://store.zonadigitalsv.com/category/527?page=1 https://kpchardware.com/index.php?id_category=103&controller=category in the picture below i marked with "light blue" how i currently have my system atm.

I've had this system (the first one listed w/ 5960X) for about five years now. Just a note, I have had it at a relatively stable overclock of 4.3Ghz with 1.26 VCore for the majority of its' life. My 980Ti also has an overclock of +150Mhz on the core and +200Mhz on the memory. It has been doing well, but simply runs way too hot for the room that I have (even removing the overclock). I have a room with an ambient temperature of about 75 degrees Fahrenheit, and this thing can bring it up to the 85 degree range over the course of an hour or so. It's kinda nuts. Regardless, some of my hardware is no longer supported by programs I frequently use, specifically my 980Ti is not supported by Premiere, or other Adobe software that I use that supports GPU acceleration (Photoshop, illustrator, and occasionally after effects). I am also beginning to have some major audio latency issues that I have attributed to too high of a CPU load, and frequently I have to restart the PC to correct it (I have done extensive testing with different audio interfaces and recording mediums to the point where I have isolated the CPU as the limiting factor). The system also crashes with most modern games when I try to run native 1440p at 144Hz at even low settings in some games (notably Warzone). Also my system is just massive. It's probably a good 45 lbs, and as I am moving to college later this year/early next year, I want to have something a little more streamlined. Similar to this build though, I want something that is high-end enough that it will last for a few years at the minimum. I also made the mistake (I was in 8th grade at the time of this build and not aware of this) of not checking my RAM's compatibility with my motherboard, so that even though the rated speed is 3200Mhz, I can only consistently run it at 2133Mhz, sometimes getting it to go up to 2666Mhz, but anything more than that and it gives me a BSOD (not quite sure as to why, not well versed enough with overclocking to troubleshoot). I also have this odd issue where sometimes the PC will not wake from sleep, or boot into the OS after POSTing, or the monitors will get a signal and turn on, then lose signal and it'll give me a steady Q-Code on the motherboard that can only be resolved by clearing the CMOS. Also, I frequently clean the computer thoroughly and remove dust from interior. TLDR: This is old and giving me problems and I want an upgrade that will last a long while with minimal issue. My main goal with this PC will be to have outstanding performance with decent thermals. I want to be able to have ideally one large display, with the option of adding more in the future. Is the one listed a good option? My goal is I want something with at least 144Hz refresh rate, decent enough color reproduction, and enough size to be able to work with 3 windows open at once. Are there any big no no issues that need immediate addressing with the compatibility of the components? I am pretty certain that the RAM is support by the motherboard at this speed, as it was on the manufacturer's QVL PDF(This will be subject to change though, since I initially was trying to configure a mini ITX build, but couldn't get all the features I needed, which is mostly a TON of I/O). Also a note, the 1TB SSD is intended to be the boot drive, and the 2TB is for quick access. 12TB is for long term storage stuff. I think my main concern is what are your thoughts on this, and how can I optimize this to the best of it's capability given the criteria and workloads? Thank you all in advance! And if anything needs clarification or if I forgot to add something really important, please let me know! (This is my first time actually using the forum despite being a fan of LTT since just around the Langley House days!)
