Hey guys, ..so first off..I'm a complete idiot ^^..Now that we've put this behind us, I can freely ask for help without being laughed at So, I recently bought a used GTX 770 4GB off of ebay for dirt cheap..tested it, it worked. Then my PSU died, I got a substitute PSU from a buddy which didn't have an 8 Pin connector..so I ordered one opened it up, tried to plug in in and saw, that the (NON-LABELED) end, which I assumed was going to go into the PSU, didn't quite fit for some reason..so (and now for the stupid part).. I flipped it..it went in..though something seemed fishy at the PSU end..the 'click thingy' wasn't in the middle...it was slightly off centered (I thought : maybe 12v EPS..but it clearly says GPU/PCIe cable) and this was the case with both ends...but since the cable itself it was labeled GPU /PcIe Cable on amazon I didn't think any further....so..disregarding the ''PCIe or EPS'' question..the cable was in ..backwards..I was dumb enough to boot it up..the GPU turned on, I even got a video signal..5 seconds later..the signal died...I THOUGHT(still not sure about it tho) I heard a popping noise but the GPU was still running ( fans were still going )...I switched off the system immediately and didn't notice any smoke......I brought it to a barely semi-professional tech guy..he said I probably fried it, but I didn't see him trying to boot it since he disappeared for 3 minutes, so I wasn't convinced. However..how likely is it, that I've permanently killed my 770 ? Did I only kill it's protection ?..and should I have really killed one of the tiny chips on it's board ..is that repairable ? and would repairing it be worth the price ? (I'm on a seriously low budget right now and my 570 AMP! is starting to give me the creeps xD)... I felt like I wasn't even that much of a PC noob..but this stupidity of mine probably proves otherwise

I got a new monitor, and went to assemble it. I was doing it on my bed, and stupidly allowed it to slide off when I walked away. The monitor fell a few feet, and landed on the back. When I inspected it, miraculously there seemed to be no damage. I've been using it for a few hours now, and it seems to be perfectly fine. It seems as if I'm in the clear, but I want to make sure before I get rid of my old monitor. Is there any thing that I should be looking out for, or anything I should test?

So, I've recently discovered the existence of kilobyte (kB) vs kibibyte (KiB) and I personally think its competely stupid, as kilobyte is now considered to be 1000B where kibibyte is now 1024B, and 1000B shouldn't be practical in any application. I was wondering if i could get a response from any of the LTT team on their perspective. General discussion about this topic tho.

So I’m using Pixelmator and iFont to finish work project on an iPhone. Usually I could use a third party file manager like Documents by readdle in order to extract some zipped fonts I have stored on my iCloud Drive using again my iPhone on a previous project. Today to my surprise I realized I have no access to iCloud from Safari which I need in order to download the zip files coz the build in app files -you guessed it sucks!- even if I try request a desktop version. Files app has a “feature” that if you don’t have an app that apple likes e.g. Pages and you’re trying to download a pages doc (or even an exported from pages pdf for that matter) won’t let you download due to download error. May in ask WHERE is that stated in terms, or why am I even paying a cloud storage if I am unable to have access to my files even if i am using the first party and same company software to do so?!?!?!?!? And I want to make clear that this was possible a couple of months back or so. That being said in hand with the launch off a font store in wwdc earlier this month kinda makes sense in a classic Apple way. Wow I don’t even except anything outta this post just hopping to spread the word (dunno why but i also posted this in Apple’s support communities which just sounds so ironic right now) . Awesome stuff!? Please if anyone thinks I’m doing something wrong let me know this would be the process on my Mac but wait it is in service...?

I bought myself a 1024GB Huawei SD card for £7.90. When it arrived I immediately noticed problems when trying to use it as additional storage and any files copied over were impossible to open. I ran H2testw to check it over several days. Only 32GB of the advertised storage was legit, the rest just doesn't exists. It took ebay stepping in themselves to get me the refund. The seller wanted me to disable my firewall and disable all security settings to test the card, INSTANT red flag! I demanded a return label so I could send it back, they claimed to have tested the card and deemed it as OK and fully functional. This is impossible as the card is still sitting right here with me and I haven't been given a return label. Clearly I made a mistake and should have paid more attention to the warning of buying cheap stuff off ebay. Hey, I just wanted to ask you guys as to what your stupidest mistakes while pc building are. My stupidest mistake was the time when I was filling my loop and forgot to plug off the extra openings on my GPU water block, it resulted in water spilling everywhere.

TD;DR - The "high-performance-purpose" GPU gives a BREATHTAKING whooping average increase of 3% (three) in performance over the Integrated GPU, whilst consuming ~4x more energy/battery. (And keep in mind I'm using the integrated GPU on single-channel memory, it would be definitely¹ faster than the dedicated one using dual channel. ) I already have the setting "Switchable Dynamic Graphics" to "Force Power Saving Graphics". (under "Advanced Power Options Settings") However there still seem to be times where something triggers the discrete GPU and somewhat increase power usage. I know there's a way to disable it in Linux, because I've found a way when researching, over an year ago. I did gave up on finding anything on Windows though. However, lurking through this forum, I've figured maybe some of the fine users here could know something more about it. Long Story Short: Bought a Lenovo ThinkPad E460 (the humble cousin at the rich ThinkPad familiy). Even when I hadn't bought it yet, I was already questioning the design decision of putting an R7 M360 inside.. I checked fps in game for that GPU and it seemed to be around even with the HD 520. In some games the M360 wins; While in others the HD 520 takes the lead. In any case the difference is basically negligible anyway. They never even get past 8% difference. Bought it anyway because I wanted a laptop with a trackpoint (red-thing-mouse) and that was the best my money could buy. (Also my options were greatly limited for not being a resident of neither the US or EU.) After buying it, performed my own tests in some games, some stress tools, and some benchmarks. My suspicions proved true and the discrete GPU is almost² useless. On top of that, the AMD GPU is wayyy more inefficient (power-hungry), as usual. Although AMD does give a run for the money, their products often use more energy to achieve the same work, when compared to competitors - Intel for CPUs or Nvidia for GPUs. Measured power draw of both GPUs under load and the AMD one seems to draw at least 4X more energy, while producing those 3% increased results. That's hardly any surprise, considering the M360's lithography of 28 nm, versus the HD 520's 14 nm. So, conclusions: Lenovo engineers thought it was a good idea to spend more money buying and adding a discrete GPU unit, fit it inside the laptop case, provide a cooling design, etc etc etc, in order to provide about the same processing power as the integrated GPU the laptop would already have, but now spending much more energy, generating more heat, and depleting your battery faster I sincerely don't know how those guys get to do these things and still keep their jobs. ----------------------------------------------------------- 1 - If you search around, you'll easily find reports of people getting around 40% framerate increase on iGPUs when using dual-channel over single-channel. 2 - It's not entirely useless. It has 2GB memory, and maybe in some specific scenario that would make you better off. Also it doesn't share the TDP with the processor like the iGPU. Depending on the game or scenario, that TDP sharing can give the users some reduced performance due to the gpu or cpu throttling down in order to keep within TDP constraints. It's less of a problem for users willing to undervolt &\or increase the TDP using intel XTU, but maybe it would affect some layman users in some specific situations.

OK so this is just a weird question I've had on my mind for a while but nobody could answer. It goes like this: If you have two monitors connected to the same system and had different independent graphics powering a monitor each, and then you had a windowed application that is rendered by the GPU and split is across the screens what would happen? If anybody could answer would be great help

Hi all. I was browsing the Apple Support Communities and I came across a few questions saying things like 'I've bought a MacBook and I don't know the password is there a way to remove it?'. Wouldn't it be common sense as to when you buy a computer to turn it on to see if there's a password and if there is and the owner say they can't remember it then the computer is probably stolen. Put it simply, sensible people who know what to buy know to turn the product on before purchasing. Alpha.

Hi, I´m looking for a site where I can pay for watching a movie. Up to this point, I was always buying them on Amazon, where they offer SD stream for $4 USD, which is roughly a price I´m looking for. But when I tried to pay for Inherent Vice, it refused to accept my new credit card (old one expired and I just wanted to change the expiration date) and wants me to fill in tons of personal information, some even US only, which is silly, since I don´t even live there. I really feel like the greatest idiot, I only know about this movie thanks to torrent site I visit. My usual practice is to have a look at what new stuff they have (they really have nice rundown of pretty much everything of any quality, something I failed to find elsewhere), download anything even remotely interesting and then watch few of these, mostly giving up after half an hour. Torrenting a movie isn´t even illegal here btw., but I really liked this movie and since I would be willing to pay for seeing it, I wanted to do just that, since that is what I always do when I enjoy a movie. I used amazon for this, since they had all the movies I wanted to pay for and had reasonable prices (I would definitely not pay $20 for seeing a movie, cinema here is about $4.5), but amazon doesn´t want me anymore. I tried to chew thru their "options", but no success there. I have tried to find someplace else, but gave up after an hour of wasted time, official web didn´t help either. Getting this movie w/o paying took me two clicks and less than 5 seconds, finding a way to pay for it already took over an hour of my time and some of yours as well, since you had to read thru this wall of text (unless you skipped ). So, do you know any place where I can buy/stream majority of movies for around $5? Thanks Update: Google Play has a moderate number of movies for a reasonable price. They already had my credit card, had no problem w/ payment. Update: MS has much better solution.

Joke takes aside... My friend, best friend want's to embrace PC gaming. he does not want to make his own PC. He wants a laptop. Cheaper the better but he said 2500$ limit (wow) Desktops ok but micro-ATX, console PC's Im a desktop user so this is out of my league, I tried to convince him to watch some videos and build his own PC, but he refuses. He at his core is an ignorant console player, as much as I love the guy.... Any suggestions would be nice thanks guys.
