Budget (including currency): 2500 EUR Country: Netherlands Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Study - reading, writing reports, coding and programming. Playing Valorant and other AAA Games like Baldur's gate, Elden ring, cyberpunk, Hogwarts legacy etc. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc.): I have made a pcpartpicker list, pls check it out - https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/list/RMC328 - Basically I need more than 200 fps in valorant and for coding I need to run Julia and simulation programs like Matlab, python etc. Hi, I just made this build at pcpartpicker after skimming through the forum and watching some YouTube videos and since I am starting my studies this year, I require upgrade from my laptop to a pc with which I can study, code and game at the same time. Hopefully this is quite good, and it fits my budget, let me know if any suggestions or upgrades are required for this build.

Budget (including currency): 2000 EUR. Country: Netherlands Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Valorant (Good FPS above 300), Python Programming, Finite Element Simulations, Julia and other Programming involving complex simulations. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc.): I have a old HP ZBook 360x which is shit with gaming, I am now starting my master's study, so I want a new pc which I can use for gaming and study at the same time. I want at least 1080p HD Resolution and Refresh rate above 300 fps for valorant which is my main game. Important Note : I have never ever built a pc in my life do I need some tools to install all the components in the pc, pls include all that and I am afraid if I should go for pre-builds because I might fuck up the assembly with making sure the cables go in the right place and am not that good with the compatibility between parts, so please help this pc noob. I am planning to build my pc by this month when I move to the Uni on 22nd August, so preferably around that date. PC Builds - Budget: 2000 EUR - Zip Code or Location: Netherlands - Specific Use: Gaming / Programming / Study - Any preferred components: No idea if i should go Nvidia or AMD - Any spare parts you can re-use? no - Overclocking your processor? Looking forward to your advice and help regarding this. Also feel free to suggest any amendments to my specifications, I am open to anything since I am completely new to pc building. Thanks in advance. - Krish

Why don't we, or can we, place a satellite in geosynchronous, geostatic orbit around the Moon since the moon is always facing one side toward Earth? Nothing expensive, just a few cameras and a few instruments to make meteorological and climate related detections from booth the Moon and Earth. For power you would use solar panels since it would be drowning in sunlight w/o clouds for hours per day. Use a battery system and design a system in which any charge over 24 vdc(or whatever volt is needed) will not go to the battery system thus reduce chances of overheating, degrading the life of the battery or a small explosion which would likely be the end of the life of the satellite. We should name it 'Omega 666'

I have been thinking about getting a new laptop for a while, but since my dreams and hopes for what it can do for me have changed, it has become increasingly difficult to find a solution that can fit my requirements. Background: I'm currently an informatics student finishing up my bachelor degree and keep finding myself in situations where I wish to sketch out a model or some concept, either to keep an overview of the current project, or explain to someone else how I imagine a solution could work. For this I would really like the solution to have stylus support, to help sketching down the ideas without having to open up some modelling software or taking pictures of pen-and-paper sketches, to send to other people working with me on the projects. I should probably also note that we use some heavier programs in some of the projects and I have found the Intel Core i5 4210H in my current Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G to be rather lacking. So I was thinking about perhaps getting a quad-core for my next laptop. Probably not surprisingly I also play some games, mostly on my desktop at home, but it's also nice coming over to a friend's house to play some there. We mostly play Overwatch, Elder Scrolls Online or Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, so that might give some indication of what GPU would be recommended. On my current laptop the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M has also been rather lacking, giving framerates in probably the low 20's, as well as random stutter/lag in Overwatch, even at minimum settings, making playing anything other than Torbjörn a challenge, even in quick play. I have been wondering if this might be caused by the CPU, but that's just a hypothesis at this point. TL:DR Requirements (hopes/dreams): Touch screen with stylus support Quad-core CPU (Or at the very least a decent upgrade from the Intel Core i5 4210H) GPU that can run Overwatch, Elder Scrolls Online and Playerunknown's Battlegrounds at decent framerates As for a budget, I currently don't have a very hard line. I am okay with paying more for a more elegant solution, but I'd like to keep it within reasonable boundaries. Now, I have been looking around, and the closest I have come to an all-in-one solution might be the Microsoft Surface Book, but 3k $ seems quite pricy, even though the solution is elegant. And it still only got a 965m GPU, and as far I can tell a dual-core i7 (?). So I wanted to pick the wonderful brains here at the LTT forum to see if we can Frankenstein some solution to this project, whether it is a laptop and tablet combo, an AIO solution or maybe a laptop with an external GPU case (I have a spare NVIDIA GTX 780 that could go in such a case)? Thanks for all replies, I'm very curious to see your suggestions!

I'm going off to university in September and need a laptop capable of meeting my needs. I have a desktop at home but i'm not going to be taking it with me due to the portability needs I have with studying etc. I'm looking for one preferably with a GTX 1060 or higher, whilst still not being a tank Currently I could get the Acer Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition for £1350, which is massively cheaper than the Razer Blade (£1999), ASUS GL502 (£1899 although with a 1070) or even the new Gigabyte Aero 15 (£1899) which also looks pretty good, is there any reason to spend the extra on anything else? Any recommendations are appreciated

So I recently my dad helped me to purchase a HP Laptop, all was good till 2 days after purchasing it I received it and the hard drive made a grinding noise, functional (for now) but I knew this wasn't good, after many diagnostics and help from HP support, they finally decided it would need to be replaced, any way I still had school work that needed doing so I thought I'd hold onto the laptop for a bit longer, fast forward 6 days after receiving the laptop and the sound just stops working completely. Anyway long story short the laptop is no longer in manufacturing and I'm going to be refunded my full about of £395.98, The only problem now Is I can't find a decent laptop/2 in 1/etc that is similar to this AND doesn't cost more then £395 (I may be able to add on an extra bit of money £20-70 depending on how worth it, it is.) The Previous Laptops Specs: HP Pavilion 15-au034na (don't be surprised if you can't find it, once hp stop manufacturing something it literally disappears) Intel i3-6100U @ 2.30GHz 8Gb 1Tb HDD cost £390, got it for £370 with student discount What I need it for: Main things are Photoshop, Visual Studio and Microsoft Word, and whatever a student really needs. I like having a lot of space because I'm often unorganized and leave year old files just lying around (yey for being a digital hoarder). My dad would kill me if he caught me playing games on a laptop that was supposed to be for studying, and personally I ain't a fan of gaming on laptops, but if it ever happened that my main pc was down and I was bored or stressed having the option would be nice So That's the story and my problem, anyone know of any solutions? I can apply for a lot of student discounts as all of a sudden I seem to be the right age, time flys huh? I already have an account with myunidays.com so if anyone happens to know very good deals with them that would be cool. Oh two last notes, I'd prefer to move away from HP because although the laptop I had was really good, they're services were a bit meh, and the products felt very flimsy but that may just be me with my big hands, and please don't mention macbooks or apple products as much as I'd love to own one, because i've never owned anything other then my old Ipod touch, they are just way too expensive. (P.S I'm from UK )

So am looking for a study partner(s) to study with for the comptia A+, I am looking to take my Cert In mid-January. I have current gone over the material and am looking to help fill in my weak spots and get prepared for the exam. I am looking for a study partner that would like to meet up online in some chat room (voice or video cam). I like to meet up once a week for 2 -3 hours to quiz each other with home brewed or googled questions applying to the A+. I also open to other forms of studying. I am in the Eastern time zone ( UTC -5), depending on how many people are really interested we can go from there on setting up a weekly time slot/schedule we aim for doing the study sessions.

I'm beginning a Master of Computer Science degree next year, and would like to buy a laptop now in preparation. I live in Australia and have a budget of ~$2000AUD, but I am happy to pay a bit more if there is something that has a lot more value for the cost. As i'll be using it for uni, i'd like some decent battery life, and not to be super heavy so that I can move it around. I'm looking for something that has a dedicated GPU, with hopefully the ability to be used as portable VR in the future if it's within budget constraints. Some of the options i've been looking at so far are the Lenovo Y540 (https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/legion-laptops/lenovo-legion-y-series/Lenovo-Legion-Y540-15/p/81SXCTO1WWENAU1/customize?), Y740 (https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/81UHCTO1WWENAU3/customize?guid=865d3e57-032f-4246-a1f5-1217790edc25&options_11=), and MSI P65 Creator 8RE (https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Notebooks/Workstation-Laptops/74509-P65-Creator-8RE-048AU) The Y540 looks great for the price, but i'm a little worried about the display not being very bright, is this something I should be concerned about? Does the P65 8RE have any build quality issues? I'd love any advice on the choices above, or if there are any better value alternatives that I should be considering! Thanks for your help!

Hello! I am soon to start studying and therefore I need a laptop. I want an affordable, small laptop with enough performance. I've looked around and found a laptop I think can fit my needs. Its a Lenovo ideapad S530 13 and features following specs: •Intel Core i5-8265U Processor (1.60GHz 6MB) •NVIDIA GeForce MX150 2GB GDDR5 •256GB SSD PCIe •8.0GB LPDDR3-1866 LPDDR3 1866MHz •Windows 10 Home 64 •13,3"FHD IPS Glare 1 920 × 1 080 I will be doing student related work using office 365 (word, powerpoint etc) but also just do dialy browsing and watch movies/youtube. Which I think the 4-core i5 will handle fine. I would also like to be able to do some gaming which is why I think this laptop with a graphics card could fit my needs. I don't really play any high demanding games, it's only going to be league of legends pretty much! Do you guys think this is a good choice? It's on sale now for quite a good price I think. Does the MX150 handle games ok? I've watched some benchmarks and it seems ok. Also does anyone know if there is any upgradability to these leonovo laptops? I've also looked at a laptop featuring a Ryzen 3700U+Vega 10, but when comparing the two the MX150 is suppos to be better. Thanks, Erik.

So I have a bunch of terms to remember for school. I really hate writing out flashcards or stuff like that, so I'm doing it online. Does anyone have recommendations for an online studying site? I'm already using Quizlet, and that isn't very helpful.

Hello, im looking for a laptop that can do a few things, I would like it to be able to handle graphic design, programming, coding and animation or just anything as would be needed of an engineering studnet. I would also like it to be able to handle some middle tier games with 60fps but im not fussy, i prioritise the work functionalities. In terms of specs i dont mind like i said itd be great to get a 1050Ti but i know that with my budget of $1200 AUD thats probably not possible. I looked around and looked at some other posts to see if any fufilled my needs, unfortunately they did not so heres a few things; i want it to be professional looking, slim and stylish so i can bring it into class i do not care how much it weighs as long as it fits these criteria, again if its slim and stylish yet somehow is dense as all hell and weighs 5kg i do not mind. Thank you for your help!

Open University / Distance Studying Background I think firstly the best way to start this topic is by giving you all a little bit of background about myself (stay with me), as I think it's relevant to this topic. During all of my early years of learning and up to the age of around 18, this is around the time I eventually dropped out of college. I was never very good at studying the conventional way, I could never spend much time sitting in front of a whiteboard learning the traditional way. I would rather have stayed at home, trying to grind level the high levels on Diablo 2 (Diablo/ Baal runs, if anyone remembers doing that) and then moving onto World of Warcraft when it was released. This had a bad impact on my studies and made me think throughout my entire life, that I would never hold any high qualifications. I left schooling with the following qualifications: Maths - C English - C Science - D Business Studies - C All the others below a D grade, so not really worth anything. I spent the next couple of years doing boring jobs that I did not like, but later on, I joined the British Armed Forces and moved on to become a submariner. Open Unversity / Distance Studying Moving onto the main reason I wanted to write this topic, I want to encourage anyone that left school with little or no education to check out whatever their version of distance learning is. In England, it's mainly Open University. I was informed by a friend, without previous qualifications, I could apply to study for a degree, so I checked out their website and found this to be true. I always had an interest in computing and tried to self learn a lot of subjects, but never stuck with it, as there is so much to learn. So I enrolled on a 360 credit BSc Computing (Web Development) full degree. All I can say is this has been life-changing. I study in my own time and it's up to me how much I want to study. My first year I completed the following modules with these results: Introduction to Computing and Information Technology - Part 1: Distinction Introduction to Computing and Information Technology - Part 2: Distinction Technologies in Practice: Distinction Discovering Mathematics: High Pass (80% just missed out on a Distinction) I'm currently studying: Web Technologies Object-oriented Java Programming Algorithms, Data Structures and Computability Managing IT: the why, the what and the how Learning a new subject was scary to start with, but the feeling of achievement you receive after completing a module, there is nothing like it. The cost of my entire degree will be around £18,000 - £20,000 which may seem a lot or not much depending on where you live. It is still cheaper than going to a traditional university here in England, as you can be charged £9,000 a year and you can use student finance and pay nothing until after you finish your course, and earn over a certain amount. lastly, I just want to finish off by saying, if you are like me and gave up on education, please look into distance studying, I can't recommend it any more. I will be moving on after this to hopefully complete a Masters Degree in computing, which is not bad for someone that left school with so little education. Never stop learning.

I am currently a high school student and I am looking for a new laptop. I do activities and have hobbies that require a decent laptop but I have a budget constraint. Use Case: -Debate (requires heavy multitasking) -Light 3d Modelling for 3d printing for DIY projects -Occasional Gaming -Studying and Homework -Light Video Editing; 1080p video about 10 minutes long on average Requirements or Preferences -1080p screen, I don't need anything higher but I do want something Full-HD -Doesn't have to be an ultrabook but shouldn't be too thick -A decent battery life, something 5 hours+ should be fine -Anywhere from 13" to 15.6" will do. -Dedicated GPU would definitely be appreciated (if not needed) Target Specs: CPU: 6th to 8th Gen Core i5 dual-core or 3rd to 5th Gen Core i7 or i5 Quad Core GPU: Something like a GTX 1050 or GTX 970m or something, I'm okay with going a bit lower over here. RAM: At least 8GB, more isn't needed but expandability would be nice Budget: About $500 *I am perfectly fine with buying used. Something like a couple of years old high-end laptop will do just fine Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks.

Hello, my name is Gustavo and this is my first build in a while. My last pc was a Pentium 4 and I'm currently using a DV7 3188 CL from HP since 2010. I plan to buy this rig in the upcoming 3 to 4 months, so I have a while to invest researching. 1. Budget & Location I don't really have a fixed budget and I like to use the components the most. I've been using the same notebook for 7 years without a problem, but it's performance will not keep up with future (and some current) applications. That being said, I don't exactly need the bleeding edge technology, but I intend to keep it for at least 5 years, updating it here and there, so a future proof build is a must. I am posting from Brazil, but as I will need to import most of the components (pretty sure of it), the prices may be given in U$D (or BRL, if you could provide one). Only requirement is to link shops with international shipping. In summary: I don't have a fixed budget, but I don't want it to cost me an arm and a leg to buy. My price range is between 1000~1500 USD. 2. Aim This system is going to be used primarily for Blizzard games, such as World of Warcraft and Overwatch and some Steam games (http://steamcommunity.com/id/Taurone/games/?tab=all. They should run at ultra settings. Don't really care for anything more than 1080p@60fps (I'm used to play at 900p@17~24fps), but higher resolutions are welcome. I also don't intend to stream, but being able to do so in a better-than-a-potato quality once in a while without stuttering is good enough. This system will also be used to work in my business (I'm a freelancer translator), which do not require anything more than a word processing software. I will also use for university, which has the same requirements. 3. Monitors I intend to use only one monitor at this time. Initially, my plan was to buy an ultra wide monitor for the work area (which is awesome for my work load) from LG/Samsung, but this shit is expensive as hell, so I'll purchase a decent monitor instead. Currently considering a thunderbolt one to daisy chain them in the future (also because I hate cables, the less cables in this build, the better) 4. Peripherals As stated above, I hate cables. I saw a decent wireless keyboard+mouse+mousepad combo/kit in one of the LTT's videos a while ago (black and blue, the mouse was charged through the mousepad), can't remember the name tho, but for now, I'll use the ones I have. Still, I'd like an opinion on the kit I described, if possible, as well as recommendations for other mechanical (and wireless, if possible) keyboards that won't cost me a kidney. Mice too. 5. Why are you upgrading? Old age and diminishing performance (the notebook, not me) and also because I'm feeling it is going to die soon. 6. Current build idea CPU Intel - Core i5-7400 3.0GHz Quad-Core Processor Initially was an i5 6600k. CPU Cooler Noctua - NH-L9i 33.8 CFM CPU Cooler This one I picked at random, just to configure a realistic model. Need recommendations. Initially intended to have a water cooling, but if a air cooling can get the job done, it's good for me. Motherboard Asus - PRIME Z270-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Cheap and has a thunderbolt and 4 DIMM slots. Memory Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory 4x4Gb 4-channel is better than 2x8Gb dual-channel, right? Storage Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive For OS and applications. Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Mass storage. I intend to add another SSD and HDD in the future to RAID. Video Card EVGA - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB GAMING Video Card Initially considered the 3Gb variant, but this one should last longer Case Cougar - Archon ATX Mid Tower Case Cheap case with the color scheme I want. Considered the Dark Base Pro 900 in black/orange, but it costs 4 times this one. Would like recommendations on this subject. Power Supply Rosewill - 450W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply Picked the cheapest yet considerably trustable PSU in the listing. Optical Drive LG - UH12NS29 Blu-Ray Reader, DVD/CD Writer For media consumption and backup of vital information. Not really needed, but nice to have. Monitor Asus - VS228T-P 21.5" 1920x1080 60Hz Monitor Picked this one just to have a price idea. RGB No RGB I don't give a damn about RGB. The Ultimate RGB Guide from LTT was gorgeous, but in my opinion it's just a waste of electricity. 7. Sauces https://pcpartpicker.com/user/gustavolrcoelho/saved/tz7gLk http://www.userbenchmark.com/PCBuilder/Custom/S45049-M211583.153864.19728.39279.89752vsS45049-M208556.251565.19728.39279.89752?tab=CPU 8. Other notes Zero experience actually building Watch LTT's videos everyday Don't really care to understand the charts and stuff from benchmarks. If it works, is stable and have nice results, it is enough. Don't give a damn for overclocking either.

This has always been a controversial topic but honestly, I'm glad something like this had been conducted. So I graduated highschool a few months ago and I am really interested in continuing my studies and being able to achieve my goals. I have a rather odd question and I decided it was a good idea to ask you guys. Basically, what do I need to study to work and develop pc hardware for nvidia, amd, intel and so on? What major should I pursue? For the most part I am talking in general, what do most pc builders and people who fix computers study? My ultimate goal however is to be able to at least take part in the development of a new architecture; be it a gpu or cpu or any other type What is the right major to pursue for that? I feel like this is what I am talented at. Since I was very young I used to unscrew and take apart the toys my parents got me to see how it works. I kept wanting to learn more and more because honestly dealing with computers and anything around them is like a passion to me. I have learned a lot through trial and error, I built my first PC at 15 and I have been going at it for years now. I want to be able to do good. I've seen my parents send their computers to these major comp/tech stores and charging lots of money for simple solutions to which often they do not even find the right fix to. (simple things like a misplaced ram card causing the computer not to boot and them thinking its an os or virus) So I thought you guys might have an idea?

Hi everyone, I am going to be student at University of Winnipeg. The question is what kind of laptop do you need for Uni? I have around $1500 CAD to spend . I am interested in MSI GS43VR. However, I am concerned it is not going to be used much at Uni so I should just buy a PS4 or XBOX1 and a $500 laptop. Also, when is the best time to buy a laptop in Canada or any tech at that ?

So, I've been doing architecture for about 3 years now, and it would take me another 3 to graduate (5.5 year degree), but i dont think i love it, and its really stressful, and reportedly the 2nd most difficult major at osu besides veterinarian. i could change my major to computer science, which is something i already do for money and really enjoy and get it done with in the same amount of time. im just not sure which route to take, and dont really have anyone to talk to about it, so id appreciate any advice.
