laptop Looking for suggestions for a laptop
martisBU posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hello everyone! I am looking for laptop suggestions for my upcoming university studies. My main intentions are light video editing with Premiere Pro, programming, Photoshop, and Office (sometimes light gaming, but it isn't a high priority as I have a stationary PC). The budget is around 800-1600 Eur. I want something not super bulky, not too heavy and battery life isn't the main issue here. I am tech-savvy, and I know a decent amount about computers and other devices, but talking about laptops, I am clueless due to that the prices are a lot different compared to how much you would spend to build one. That is why I ask for your help.-

Hi, I would like to share my experience with Dell to complete the results of Secret Shopper 2. I live in France so maybe your experience can be better in other regions. So, for my studies I bought a Dell 2 in 1 inspiron 13.3'' directly on the website. 2in1 to be able to annotate the 60 pages PDFs that teachers give us and an I7 with 16GB of RAM to do some little MATLAB and solidworks work on it.) , which is a very honest price (in France) for the services and the quality I thought I had.) , which is a very honest price (in France) for the services and the quality I thought I had. For me Dell has always been a good brand, as I have some 15-year-old computers or screens which still works today. After 2 weeks, I received it. I was very happy (It was a long time that I didn't buy or build a computer for me.) , everything works fine, I used it at school, until two weeks later a bug appeared, which is when I close the lid, sometimes there is a BSOD and the computer restart in diagnostic mode. Then, when I open it, I see that there is no problem, and I lost all my open documents. This is very annoying, some days later after updating BIOS and Drivers, the bug is still there, so I call the technical service, I explained the problem and they proposed me to send a technician to my house to change MB and SSD. The following week the technician came to change the parts and he said at the end that I had to reinstall Windows. First negative point to Dell. Thankfully, I know how to do it, but after an afternoon of driver installs, the computer was glitchy and I discover that my keyboard had no more backlighting. So the next day I called Dell again, and they propose to send a technician to change the keyboard the following day. But five minutes the BSOD reappeared, I was very angry, and I recall Dell, to know if there is a way to be refund or to change completely the computer. But I think the guy at the phone was deaf, he just had to the keyboard replacement, the MB and SSD replacement again. But he didn't respond to my question, then, I wrote a killing message on the dell forum, and 30 minutes later I received a call from Israel, it was dell's technical support to say to me that the demand of refund was accepted and that I have to wait 48 to 72 hours to receive a call from the service that is in charge of refund to know how to get my money back. But it was three weeks ago, I don't receive this call, and I can't contact dell by phone (I need a service number that I don't have.) or by mail (they don't respond.). So, yesterday I sent a letter to Dell. Hoping, they will respond positively. To conclude for the moment, I have a $1500 computer that I bought for studies that was very good at the beginning, but it doesn't work as expected. If I can get my money back I'll take a Lenovo that's pretty sure. Dell needs to improve a lot to see me again buy a new computer from them. I hope for you to not have problems with Dell at least in Europe. Voila voila. I just wanted to share my experience as a complement to Secret Shopper 2. Excuse my French....

So....I am looking for a laptop and I have managed to narrow it down to 2 options, the blade 15 with a 2070, or the zephyrus g14. I have asked many people around and have got mixed answers, some say asus, others say razer, so I come here for answers, just to clarify, the razer would be the base model, so I want a laptop that gives me the power so like...for the next 5 years I can play calmly, whilst being able to study. So as an example, when Watch dogs legion comes out, or the next forza, or probably the next plants vs zombies shooter, or probably Final Fantasy XV or XVI, I want to be able to plug the laptop in and play, knowing that I can take it to university without problem. A laptop with which I'm calm knowing that it will be by my side and I can give it a bit more of power if I may end up having it for 2 extra years. Please help me.

Pretty much everybody encountered a situation, when parts of a headphone wire, that regularly touches your body, get stiff. And, as I understand, it's happens not only with wires, but with everything, that made from some sorts of PVC or polyurethane and had a regular contact with human skin. I work in RMA departmant of some big (for my country) importer of random quality Chinese goods, varying from Steelseries peripherals, to cheap af lawn mowers. Recently (about a 7-8 months back) we started to import ThunderX gaming chairs. And now one of them came to me (physically) with a complaint about cracks in material of seat and armrest. This chair was in use in about 5 months. Actual cracks obviously caused by "general wear and tear", or, simply because somebody sat in tis chair only in his underpants or in short shorts, because actual damage located on a front edge of a seat, in dents, where hips of the user touched surface. Faux Leather ("Eco leather", according to manufacturer) in this dents is much harder, stiffer, than in, for example, back side of a backrest of a seat, where user skin didn't touched it. We denied this RMA request and provided official statement (in paper, to be shure), but user, obviously, is not satisfied and trying to push this matter through different channels. Is there any chemistry based proofs, or studies, or whatever, that I can base new official statement? Or maybe I'm horribly wrong? I was pretty shure about my desition first time, but now I need evidence, that cannot be challenged.

Hi, I am looking for a gaming laptop with great battery life since I am going to studieing to become a mechanical engineer soon. So the priorities for me are, that the laptop is portable, has a good enough battery life to get me through a day at my university (like 8 h, i think) and to have good gaming performance. And it would be really really great to be around 1700€, or less (I live in germany (mv)). I already looked at products with a i7 ****g with amd vega grafics, but i think the gl varient is a little underpowerd for me. Another good allrounder could be the OMEN by HP 15-ce014ng at 1700€ with a gtx 1060. Do you have other ideas, that could work for me? Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone reading this! I want to start a somewhat sensitive discussion. I am 18 years old and I finished school around 2 weeks ago. So now school is over and I have the whole summer to find out what I am going to do next. I am from greece, and here, in order to get into a university, you go through something we call panellinies which is like finals and depanding on how many points you get from it, you choose the university you want to go to. Unfortunatelly, I almost completelly failed. I am not saying this is a good thing, but I was not hoping for more, mainly because I dont have hopes on my own country especially in the category I am interested in. Just reading in the news about greece should point out why. And now I am in a possition where I can either try again next year, or leave greece and go study aboard. Of course doing the second one means a lot more expenses for my parents, and I am aware of it. But my problem right now is fidning the right universities and schools for what I want to study. I am a maker lover. I love making stuff. It can be from building an ikea chair, to a computer, to making my own diy projector, to making my house automated using raspberry pis and arduinos and even fixing the toilet. I love it all. I like doing things, working and mainly making usefull things while learning form it and learning new ways of doing things. This is what I want to do. This is what I love. But here comes my problem. I only know greek and english, so moving somewhere where english in not really spoken is not an option. And the other problem and the biggest one is that there is too much information online. I know this is not a bad thing and it might sound stupid, but there are so many details, and informations about every single thing that I am getting lost. I am sure some people here are from europe and some of you, might know and can help me make a decision on where to study. I wonder if there are like techical schools or something like that. This is the biggest problem yet for me, there is soo much information and I cant really describe what I want, that I am getting resoults about a milion things. If any of you know something, or have been in a similar situation and could help me and guide me a little bit, I would really really appreciate it! Thank you all for reading my life story. I know this is not going to be getting that much attention and replays, but to the people that can help me out a bit, I love you all!

Hello everyone! First of all, I just wanted to preface this by saying that I just registered on this site seconds ago, so I am still not familiar with the overall structure of the forum so to speak. If this topic did not belong in the General Discussions Forum, please excuse me and know that I am really, really sorry! With that out of the way... Hi, I am a 22 year old student studying Information Technology at University, and I am going to graduate this December; unfortunately, I am not too happy about that. When I look at my peers, I notice that everyone else seems really happy about graduating and feels ready to go out into the world to become IT specialists and do IT-stuff. In fact, many of them were able to secure really good IT-related jobs throughout their studies and seem to have been very knowledgeable before even going into College, while I was just the average kid that just played Computer games, tinkered around with HTML at a young age and found it fun, and loved watching Windows History videos. So really, I was (and still am) average when it comes to Computer knowledge. Suffice to say, I don't feel that same confidence, and that's both due to my lack of real-world experience and especially because I just don't know enough to work in the field anyway. To be honest, I feel like I should have just now started studying Information Technology rather than already getting a Bachelor degree. I feel like all I have done is pre-requisites, but no, apparently I should already be a full-fletched IT-dude; a good one according to what my advisor said after looking at my GPA (which proves that GPA means absolutely nothing). Really, the problem with the plan of study for me was that we learned a bunch of disconnected things without a clear idea of what the big picture is; at least, that's how I feel. I have huuuuuge gaps in my studies to the point where I do not even have 'the basis for Computer Studies'. It feels awful graduating in a field that is definitely very interesting (though if I could go back in time, I would definitely have picked Software Engineering over IT) but that I am clueless about. I am too embarassed to admit how little I really know, but let's just say that I cannot even grasp all of what an average hardware-related LinusTechTips is about. I feel like a fraud, plain and simple. I am not pinning this all on the plan of study though, I completely admit that I am at fault here. So, after all this boring flavor text (and embarassing truth about me) out of the way, here's my question to you! Can you direct me to books, documentaries, movies, websites, Youtube Channels (obviously Linus' channels have already been in my subscription list) and every other form of media and general ressource that assumes that I am a complete idiot in all things Computers and that will teach me the basics about Hardware Components, Programming Languages (which ones are important, how do they differ, really basic stuff), Computer History and especially Networking (which is the core of IT apparently and yet my greatest weakness) and anything else that comprises the core of IT in your opinion. Of course I will know a bunch of things covered in basic overviews I am sure, but it's more about connecting the dots for me. Besides that, I would also appreciate any recommendations on post-University required reading for ITs, stuff that you think I should definitely read as someone who is going into the field. Really, just recommend ANYTHING that would further my knowledge in any way. Thank you so much for reading and for future suggestions, you are the best And again, sorry if I am on the wrong forum or if my post was too long-winded.

This is a thread dedicated for debating !! First topic .... :- If superman is the man of steel ... Does that make him 96% iron man ?? Can werewolves swim ?? These are just spoof topics for fun ... But , maybe later on .. We can conduct full fledged debates with actual and intresting topics about techs and maybe how much we hate politics and how will the world end ?? Or who will win the ww3 ?? Or. Similar topics like can we retreat to mars ?? Suggest the topics !! Edit :- if I get 5 good enough topics which are intellectually challenging as well as intresting ... I'll conduct anither poll to choose the topic and we can have a debate !!

Hi, I am currently in my second year of university in Ghent, Belgium and there are these programs for studying abroad for one or two semesters. For the ones outside of Europe we need to give a top 3 and a motivation for the first choice. My choices currently are: -Taiwan (National Sun Yat-Sen University) -USA (University of Illinois, Chicago) -USA (Baruch College - City University of New York) Since the USA ones are usually the most popular ones, I'm thinking about putting Taiwan as my first choice. But I don't really know that much about Taiwan outside of HTC (i'm a huge fan) being there, so I am wondering if it is worth studying there for (half) a year... So I have some questions: What language do they speak there? (I am fluent in English, Dutch, German and French, do I need to start learning Taiwanese?) How modern is the country? (high speed internet? everyone having 4g and stuff like that?) Are the people cool/nice/friendly? How different is it to normal EU countries? (I have visited most european countries but i have never left the EU)? How is studying there? Any important things I need to know about the country/ about living there? Please feel free to answer any of my questions, even if you aren't from Taiwan Thanks in advance guys!

So it been 1 year since graduation and I have worked at my dads office as a trainee for 6 months to get some experience, dont really want to call that as my first job because, hey I got taken in because its my dads company. I have included this experience, my degree, professional qualifications and other education details in my CV and posted to about 50 vacancies so far throughout last year and received zero responses. I believe I got some decent grades too in my studies, scored atleast 60-70% in every exam I have done. Is this situation 'normal'? Im depressed too for sacrificing soo much for studies, getting through them and receiving no benefits. Meanwhile some of my friends who barely made it through school are doing simple jobs with a rather good salary which sometimes made me think why I even bothered learning so hard. I got some personal goals too and at this rate I dont feel like Im getting anywhere. Looking forward to hearing your story on how you got through. Thanks
