Hello everyone, I'm brand new to building a DIY NAS and I'm unsure which OS is best for my needs. That's why I'm asking you. I have an old spare PC and I want to use it to stream media on my own network. Currently, I have a 2TB HDD and a 120GB SSD boot drive installed. In the future, I'd like to add 4x 8TB drives so I can stream movies, series, and music. To keep electricity costs down, I want to shut down my NAS when it's not in use. I'll need Plex for streaming since I use a Samsung TV. Which OS should I use for this purpose?

Summary Vstream is dead. (actually not figuratively) Vstream was the Vtuber focused streaming platform that tried to give creators a bigger cut to profits and a different way of delivering content to viewers. while many can speculate why it couldn't get funding one thing is already known. Streaming is expensive. Quotes My thoughts This is why no one can conquer the 3 streaming giants. As a person who has been following the Vtuber community I was really hoping for a better alternative for streaming in general. The website didn't play #ADs, provided a larger cut to their talents and gave a different method of streaming delivery by apple. While I want to say it could be the Delivery method at fault since I have a massive bias to AV1 encoding which Apple didn't support. I don't think it would have helped. Sources https://vstream.com/

I have a spare server I'm not using. Is there a way to cache some of my streaming services (ie. HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix) for a rainy day? Especially if I am having an internet/power outage or slow internet (I have cable internet, so sometimes slows down during peak usage hours.) I know you can do this with services like Steam, Origin, & Ubisoft. I have my doubts, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Possibly something like an Edge-CDN? (Might have that wrong.) Thanks in advance for any advice!

Budget (including currency): £10,000+ Country: Uk Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Streaming Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hey kind people, i'm looking for a bit of help. Very soon i'm going to be creating a no expense spared streaming room, those new 4k 240/1440p 360 hz oled's are looking like the way to go for me at least for now, The issue im envisioning is if i use my 2 pc setup how would i capture the game from my gaming pc and send it to my streaming pc without having the option of a hdmi capture card (i dont know of any that offer 240hz 4k passthrough. and id be using display port in that instance) Does anyone have any potential solutions for this. I dont mind purchasing an expensive hdmi matrix if theres any that offer that (it may be beneficial if i do co streams with people coming to my house i can put second pc in the matrix as well) or is there a simpler option like mirroring the screen to a hdmi port on the graphics card (Hoping it wouldn't cost performance) Apologies for the long winded post. I appreciate your help

Hello!!! I am looking to getting into streaming, vlogging, and various content creation. What I am needing help on is deciding between the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Edition (or the Action 4 creator edition) vs GoPro Hero 12 Creator Edition. Main reason I went with these options is the ability to use it as not only a webcam but the ease of taking it on the go, along with the extras that come with the creator editions. Ideally I would want a camera for streaming and then one for just making videos but in the mean time i can do with having just one camera for both. I am open to other options as well so any advice or information is certainly welcomed as well! I've been looking to upgrade my streaming setup recently. I have a budget of 250€ with a MAX of 300€. I recently saw the elgato Wave DX on sale for 85~ euro and I'm considering going for it. I do have a few issues and questions I'd like to know about more about first however. TDLR; Is the wave DX good for deepish voices, should I match it with a non-elgato interface to fit my budget/what interface, do I go for something else like a podmic or at2020? :D 1. I've been told it's not the ~best~ for deeper voices, with it having a 50hz+ pickup compared to others in the same bracket like the podmic having a 20hz+, the dx also apparently has a very tailored curve for good mids. How bad/good is it really for deeper voices? 2. I can't fit both the 1st party arm and the wave interface within my budget. Is it worth missing the elgato software (which I've heard is a crazy good value) and going for something cheaper and less sleek like the focusrite scarlett solo 3rdgen? Or if any of you have another good 100€(ish) interface, I mean I wouldn't mind one with 2-3 buttons for soundboards or a build in eq. Also I know some mics, like the podmic loses alot of it's value when it's not used with the rodcaster, at least some people have said they struggle with the podmic output volume when they use a third-party interface (at least without an inline amp), does the DX struggle with that too? 3. Do I go for another mic entirely? I've looked quite hard at the options, of course the at2020 is a basically unbeatable value option BUT I personally don't like the look of it. Which for is important to me since it'll be seen on camera and I just like having a good looking thing in my face. I also looked at the t.bone mb7 beta on thomann which has some decent looking bundles within my budget but finding video reviews of it is really difficult since it's not exactly a widely bought mic. Thanks for reading... tho I doubt many people did but thanks!:D

AV1 is here for a while now and it seems that it will be coming to Twitch soon, and seeing the quality upgrade I'd really like to use it. So it comes down to 3 options: RTX 4000 series, RX 7000 series or an Intel ARC card. Because the max I can go is 320-330$ for the GPU, the options are RTX 4060/RX7600/ARC A750 (ARC A750 is the only card available in my country it seems). Intel GPUs look really promising with all the improvements they have made for their cards so far and besides it's really cheap too (around a bit more than 200$ for the ARC A750) but I don't know how well they performs compare to the two other cards. For the RTX 4060 and RX 7600, both cards cost the same and around 315-320$ around here. And as much as I hate how the RTX 4060 performs for its price, it's still a better choice than the RX 7600 considering being at the same price or even cheaper (only 5-10$ cheaper) and having better power consumption and some other factors. I'm not really sure about this one so I might need you guys' help. Is there anything wrong with what I typed above, any other factors that might make one a better choice than others. Thank you and have a nice day!

Buying the HEVC Video HEVC Video Extensions on the Microsoft store suddenly fixed everything! And all this time I was questioning why Disney would make all their big budget shows, film them in 4k or greater and only distribute them in 720p. It's madness Microsoft does not include them in Windows by default and more madness that Disney and Netflix and Amazon Prime don't publish this as a solution or tell you you are being limited. Please tell me I'm not the only one who has experienced this.

Hello, so i know there is a similar post but with some differences on my specs. I'm thinking of buying the rx 6700xt for gaming and streaming on Twitch but i hear a lot of people say no because of the encoding that has problems with Twitch. Note that i cannot stream on 6000 bitrate because of my internet connection (even though i have 10mbps upload speed my bandwidth doesn't reach this mbps idk why) Do you think it's gonna be a good idea buying this one or should i go for a 3060 12GB? I know the performance is worse than the 6700xt but in terms of streaming i can go a bit lower on graphics since i dont play this much of a demanding games. Or you think going on lower GB of VRAM for the 4060 8GB is another solution?

Recently i wanted to use my Laptop as a third monitor in my setup. I have seen that Windows has a built in feature allowing this, but it requires that the projecting display supports Miracast. Unfortunately my Laptop does not support it (Specs : 1st Gen Intel i3 330m, Previous Gen Intel HD, Has a WiFi Module). I have been searching for an alternate solution but anything that i find shows how to do it with Windows and Miracast. Im sorry if i provided to little info, idk what else i should say so if you need anything else , please ask ... Does anyone have an alternate solution to this , a program or something that allows me to use my Laptop as a third display , without using Windows built in "Project To This PC" feature and Miracast. Thank You !

I am a 20-year-old small content creator who needs some help Upgrading/Re-building a computer that I won't have problems with and that will work well for multi-tasking (Gaming, Streaming, Editing) and be as reliable as possible. I don't know where to ask this so I'm asking here. My little brother is permanently bedridden due to his disability, and therefore does not have the ability to go to the cinema. He is very interested in Five Nights at Freddy's and wants to see the new movie now for Halloween. Does anyone know where I can watch it in Sweden? Peacock is not available in Sweden unfortunately, and the VPN did not work as I had a Swedish payment method which Peacock does not accept. Does anyone know when the film will be available to rent or buy at e.g. iTunes? Or if anyone knows of a streaming service that will probably have it, please link it here or in a private message to my account (in that case, I will buy it as soon as it comes out on iTunes as compensation, since that's the Linus' philosophy). Preferably sites without viruses, thanks.

Hey guys. I've got a Samsung UA55AU7700KLXL 4K TV running Tizen 2141.2 as it's OS (More info in the photo attached). I've been using prime video in this TV for a year or so and it's been all fine until a few weeks ago. Whenever I wanna stream 4K HDR movies in prime video, it keeps switching to HD HDR and sometimes just HDR while the movie's playing. I can confirm that neither my internet nor my router is the issue as the TV says the speed is well around 150Mbps (Photo attached of the speedtest). I'd appreciate for someone to help me out with this cuz it's been bugging me a bit too much recently. Thanks in advance :)

When watching youtube, disney+, netflix, or other streaming video services the video will stop and start buffering. Sometimes the audio will continue without the video, and other times the video comes back but the audio isnt synced up. When streaming an audio book on Audible it will start to skip, go back a few seconds and repeat. All issues are fixed when refreshing the browser\app, but the issue will continue to happen. Doesnt matter the browser, tried them all. Hello everyone looking for some help finding a laptop. 1. I've been trying to find a website where I can get benchmarks on diffrent games with a particular laptop but that does not seem to exist in the same way with components for a desktop. If anyone knows of one let me know I could use it to make a decision. 2. I want a computer to game and stream when I travel. I vacation for months out of the year and want something I can play Cod warzone and stream it. Looking to spend $2,500-$3000 but I want to make sure it can run it at least 120 fps. Ps. I would prefer something with a screen over 17in. Thank you in advance. .

Hey, probably an unusual find on a tech forum predominantly for gamers, anyhow I run a sound booth and we stream meetings and services live on YouTube. We were using a Mac with like an i7 6700 and it just could not handle streaming at ALL not to mention it was expected to run 3 displays and playback the video for preview. All the time every core was full load and throttling too due to the mac's poor thermals. I recently swapped from a desktop to a laptop and gave my desktop to use in the sound booth. It's running an i5 12600k which obviously is enough and it barely peaks 15% usage. I have an i3 12100 though sitting on my shelf and wondered if it would be enough to run the streaming setup. (I have a dedicated GPU in the build as well) I get mixed results online, when I research and usually the question is asked in the context of gaming resulting in the answer "no". I was hoping someone with experience streaming or understanding the limitations of the i3 12100 might be able to assist. We only stream 1080p 60FPS. My plan is to sell the i5 12600k if possible and purchase an elgato capture card to help with the video processing. Thank you for the assist!

Hello Everyone, This is a weird one for me. I do not live in the U.S. at the moment, however where I am located I've never needed to use a VPN to access Hulu. I've used it for 2 years up until this point without a single issue. However, I recently bought a new Asus RT-AX86U router to take over router function from the modem router combo provided by my ISP and after getting it set up I suddenly get blocked from Hulu and told I cannot access it while using an anonymous proxy even when I am not. I do have a VPN but that does not work either when I try. I've looked through the settings and the only ones I've enable are QoS and OpenNAT which I can't see causing this issue. Has anyone else had this issue before or any idea how it may have happened? Thanks in advance!

Is there any good way to take the input from a microphone and change it in real time and output the modified audio into OBS for streaming on macOS? I have a 3D-puppet that I control in real time and need to also change my voice. Free is preferred but I'm willing to pay up to 10 USD. If I can control it via the Elgato Steam Deck MK.2 (turn the effect on/off) it also a bonus, but not a must. (MBP M1 Max).
