I myself just experienced one of these. So, we got at the airport (9:30). we check in, do all that, security, blah blah blah. next thing you know we see the door to the plane is closed and 5 workers are trying to tend to 2 other families in our situation. we go up and say, "what's going on?" The workers say that my family is late and we missed the flight. However, the plane was still sitting out there being refueled. the situation, after it was explained, ended up making us pay 102 dollars extra. a little pissed, but it isn't the worst situation. i'm also stuck here eating trash food at an airport for 5 hours. I am leaving for jacksonville in 5 hours! goodbye!

I've been a sub to LTT for a while, but I'm new to the forums. I wanted to start off doing a thread about Cybersecurity war stories. Post any and all interesting stories related to Cybersecurity that you've experienced or heard from friends/colleges. (Let me know if this isn't the right place for this post)

Hello guys. Almost a week ago, I made a third instagram account. I was logged in to all the 3 of them from my phone. Suddenly, other people stories couldn't load on my main account. The others are fine. I tried manually stop instagram from the settings, I cleared the cache, reinstalled it, got an update but nothing. From the pc, I can't see the stories as usual, but not on my phone. I'm running the latest Android and Instagram version ( not beta). Have you got any ideas?

Do any of you guys have any weird or interesting stories from when you worked at a tech support or computer repair company? I have too many to count, but a couple I find interesting are: 1) My boss replaced some dudes Retina MBP screen with a 3rd party one from eBay for cheap but told him it was OEM from Apple and charged him as such. This happened often and I would voice my objection and tell customers when I knew about it, he didn't like that, but whatever. The screen had various issues like going back until you did a couple reboots or resets or the colors shifting the longer it was on. He kept bringing it back for repair and I told the guy it was obviously a bad screen and will be replaced under warranty. While I was out my boss gave him the laptop back saying the screen had been replaced and everything was Aye-Okay! It wasn't replaced and the issues continued. The dude kept coming back every couple days, no idea why he would come back even after that first time, but whatever. After a few more times my boss told him that he AGAIN sent it to Apple for replacement and it was good to go. The next day it had issues, he brought it directly to Apple who told him there was no record of any repairs and that since it had major 3rd party replacement parts, they wouldn't touch it now. Furious he flies into the shop and starts threatening lawsuits at me (he was a Hollywood-type Producer). My boss ended up having to "cut a deal" with the dude and my paycheck was late that week; great place to work. 2) Same boss noticed the company was going well so we bought a $2k MakerBot printer. His goal to build a life-sized BB-8 replica. Pretty cool idea at the start. Anyway, having no patience, it didn't go anywhere. Blaming the printer for every mistake and making no attempt to learn the machine. Just dumping more money into more parts and accessories for the printer. After months of no longer using it, he bought 2 more at the same prices as the original. They are both still unopened, in the box as far as I know. He was trying to market the company as a 3D Printing service but had to turn away the people who actually wanted the service as he was in no position to do that. Most people turned us down as he wanted to charge $15 an hour to print, which was more than he was willing to pay me to work there. He also tried to sell his half finished, poorly done BB-8 model to someone for a few grand, who laughed at him thinking he was joking around. He got furious with the person and refused them service in the shop. Hope these weren't too boring or long winded. I have MANY more stories from this place, as working there was absolutely ridiculous, but I am curious is this is a common theme in this industry? Also, I thankfully do not work there any longer or in that industry.

What's the most embarrassing thing you've done or got caught doing...?

For some time now, I've got alot of keys, for many games. I never found the opportunity, but now I think I found it. I liked Linus's videos on Youtube for SOOOOO long, and wanted to join the forums, but since I'm living REALLY far, I could'nt join, the site was too slow. But now, it's working just fine, And you guys are being SO nice over here, I think I want to give out to you guys, as well. So about the key - It's from humblebundle.com . I hav'nt used it since I already got one, and as I said, I had no one worthy enough to me, giving it up. The task really is simple: Tell me the funniest thing that happend to you! This way, the choosing is simple - based on likes of the comment!] *I'm not promising, but I might have keys of bioshok 1 and 2 as well, so you probley won't wast your time. That's it, I guess. *I'll out for 3 days (Over here right now it's 4pm, sunday), so the winner(s!) will get theire prizes by Wensday. **If this thread will go well, I'll give up more keys! B)

I'd like to hear your experiences while trying to sell an item on Craigslist. Here are my two encounters: First Story: I was selling my xbox game collection and accessories for cheap on to switch over to PC. I had a buyer who was willing to pay $120 for all of my games and accessories and we both agreed on a certain time to meet. Well, I didn't get enough sleep the night before (I stayed up until 4 am) and I was extremely tired. I decided to just lay down until the time came to meet and guess what happened? I fell asleep... Boy was the buyer NOT happy at all because he wasn't in the area anymore. SO I apologized to him multiple times and he just blew up over text. Eventually he cooled down and agreed to meet again, so I just decided to give it to him for $60 to make up for gas since I wanted to get rid of it. He sure did get a great deal. Oh well, my mistake . On another note, I had another buyer for a DSi, but he was very nice and said it was completely fine. Second Story: So I got a new phone, so I decided to sell my S3. Within 2 hours I had a potential buyer... Here's how the texts went: Buyer - Is this item still up for sale ? Get back to me with yourfinal asking price. Me - Yes it's still up for sale at $175 Buyer - Great,I am buying the package as a birth day gift for my pastor's son who was transferred to West Africa. I'll add an extra 200 toyour final price for the package which will be for the shipment of it via the Local Post Office and other expenses. I'll be payingyou through PayPal. I will forward his residential address to you immediately i hear from you again. Thanks Me - So just to clarify, that means you're paying 375 all together Buyer - Yes... Kindly get back to me with your paypal email address so that i can arrange for the payment asap! Me - Before that, I would like to know where I am shipping it to and the reason you can't purchase it in person and ship it yourself. No reply after that . Well, at least I have someone to buy it now .

Hey guys, I thought about starting a thread where people could tell the stories they'd heard or experience about people modding their computers in extreme and interesting ways. If there's already a thread with this general idea/theme, feel free to merge it. I'll start: My supervisor (IT manager) apparently once took a Mountain Dew can, and using a blow torch, melted one side of it down then let it cool in such a way as to create a flat surface as a heatsink for his CPU. He then cut off the opposite side so that it was like a cup and sanded the surface to a mirror shine. Then he attached it to his CPU (sitting horizontal on a bench) with thermal grease and put dry ice in the cup. He apparently got a 1GHz CPU to 4GHz this way until all the dry ice melted and the whole system failed with the CPU going up in smoke. This was intentional (he expected to break the thing), but was simply for fun with spare parts left lying around. I thought this was baller level modding. Particularly the way he did the can with dry ice. What are your stories? They don't have to be as crazy/epic as this, but preferably on topic/similar. Thanks, Vitalius. P.S. My IT manager is old enough to have seen the whole "internet revolution" play out in full from the beginning. He once owned a Commodore 64, worked on ARPA net, and even got to use a Mainframe computer at his university when he was 19-21. Right after they had upgraded from punch card computers. He's seen some ... stuff. lol

I recently had to RMA a Nexus 7 to Asus due to the connector breaking. The screen was also cracked and it wasn't under warranty. I got it back a week ago and they sent me a new Nexus 7. WIN!!! Care to share your good/bad RMA and Warranty stories

As the title suggests, what's your best customer service story? I posted this in Off Topic, so obviously it doesn't have to be tech-related customer service. Here's mine: I went to one of the local men's wear stores for a new shirt and some white shoes if they had any. I got a nice bone-coloured tailored shirt and they had some nice white dress/casual shoes on sale (80% off), but none in my size. The girl said she'll call up one of the other branches of the company and see if they can send a pair of 9's over. Came back a week or a few weeks later (can't remember) to get my new shoes and she mentioned she wasn't allowed to do what she did. Turns out since they were on sale, she wasn't allowed to sell me a pair that's been mailed over from another store for the same price as was first advertised. She basically sold them to me for that price anyway, which I'm pretty sure would have actually cost the company money and could have cost her her job. I still kind of feel bad for this to be completely honest. However, I'm definitely going back there when I need something they sell.

Hey, seeing as all of us are either at or have finished school I thought it would be interesting/funny for people to share their success stories, or not so successful stories of finding loopholes around and hacking into school security I have been amusing myself with the complete lack of actual security around our school network, for instance I discorvered that the C drive whas not blocked, moved, or restricted to admin users. it was merely hidden. You could go to any program and go to the C drive from there, and this means (as I'm sure you know) that you could intall and run what ever the heck you want, I mean come on IT, really? they were either really lazy or really incompetent. Thank goodness for their sake though they disabled cmd so I can't use it, I can get to it, but not use it, but I'm sure I'll find another way to become and admin huehehehe. even thinking about getting a Rasberry Pie to hack the school > Anyway, please share you're experiences with getting around school security (or even the lack of it)

So, I wanted to ask this question for a long time... Why are you on the forums, not that the forums are bad, staff and members did a great job making it what it is today, but, why? In my case, it was my life, my loneliness (sorry if i spelled that wrong) that influenced me (sorry if i spelled wrong again) to join this forum. Outside of my computer is a world full of people I don't want to hang out with. Full of retarded sexist bastards talking about penises and trying to get boners. Yeah, I am in a weird fucking place, but ill maybe never be able to get out of there. A world full of people that were your "best-friends" when they needed your money, your food, your drinks, your will to give them anything you want so their arses could be happy. (sorry, but really thinking about it i feel bad now) And I aren't talking about this because other people do, and I want to be like them, but because it already happened to me, and I'm freaking 12! Same story, a guy pretended to be my friend so i could give him things, be in his surroundings and protect him, and when he needed to get on his legs alone, he made me look like a damn bastard.... Then i found how a computer can be valuable for a person, not because I'm a gamer/tecchie now, but because I am already for 9 years... Because, yes, I started playing my first game on my 512MB's of ram computer with a pentium 2 CPU and an emulator. When i was three i knew more shit then 14 year old's knew, and i was harrased because of it. And when i got internet in 2008, again, i realized how gaming, and being on a computer could be a good thing. I was constantly making friends and meeting new people. And I aren't bullshitting again, because, I met my best friend through the net. We talk each day, 4 hours, for 5 years now, and we still have much things to discuss about, but since my friend was already a "enough" tecchie himself, i felt that there was emptiniess inside of me. That i couldn't help people with the best things i've ever learnt about. Computers. So i tuned in a lot of channels like JayzTwoCents, BarnaculesNerdgasam (Both of them are on the forums) Newegg, and ofcourse, the almighty LinusTechTips and NcixTechTips... I already knew much things Linus was discussing about, but i've already just wanted to hear someones else thoughts, and so I discovered LTT forums. Where i could interact with people that are same like me, and help them. I know this is a long ass post, and that it has been posted probably 1 or 2 times already, but i would be happy if you shared your own story with me
