Hello Friends, Could someone help me figure out how to set static IP addresses in an attempt to resolve my network crashing problem? I have a few questions on how to set things up. 1) Do I need to set static IPs for the devices (phones, laptops, etc) on the network; or just the routers? Or all of them? 2) There's an IP reservation menu in the EERO app. It makes it very easy to reserve the IP address for normal devices, but it doesn't list the routers as something I can reserve an IP address for. There is a way to add reservations manually. It requires me to input an IP address and a MAC address. While there was only one IP address; when I checked the MAC address details for the routers, I saw 4 to 5 different MAC addresses per router depending on the model (2 for ports, 3 for WiFi? Screenshot attached). Does this mean I need to add 5 reservations per router to make it "static"? 3) Is there any way to confirm that this is in fact an IP address conflict that is causing the network to crash? Problem: Based on what I've been reading, it's most likely an IP address conflict? We have a large network for a household, and for years now, The network dropouts daily, about every 8 to 12 hours. The entire network crashes and I can see that the routers/extenders keep attempting to reconnect, but never do. They just end up on a loop of crashing and attempting to reconnect. This is usually remedied by switching off the main router and network switch, waiting a while, then switching them back on. Network Setup: 18 Eero devices in total due to brick construction. Signal wouldn't reach any other way. You can check the network diagram using this link. The signal goes from the ISP ONT box to the main router, which is followed by an unmanaged network switch. From there, the switch takes the signal via cable to multiple routers distributed in different locations. Everything is connected via CAT6 cables, with the exception of 3 wireless extenders. There are roughly 50 to 60 devices connected to the network, that's including all the "smart devices", lights, etc. A few more if people come over.

Hi. I have a rather large Ubiquiti UniFi network with many switches and a USG Pro 4. There are two buildings connected together. I made a vlan for each building and there are camera servers and viewers on both that need to be able to connect to each other. These clients/computers/servers have static IPs set in the network IP 4 settings. When I am trying to connect to a server with static IP on the other vlan I am not able to connect. When the server is using DHCP and the viewer is using static IP I am not able to connect. When using DHCP on both I am able to connect. When both is on the same vlan and both is using static IP I am able to connect. Is it possible to get two clients with static IPs to connect to each other when they're on different vlans and if yes, how do I do it? Thanks. Roger J.

Hello all, I'm looking to setup a static IPv4 and IPv6 in Windows 10 Pro (Desktop PC if that matters). I'm wanting to do this so I can port forward the game COD MW 2019 / Warzone to try and fix some networking issues I'm having in game. In game when I die the kill cam shows something very different then what I directly noticed while playing. Like everyone I'm playing is backward in time or something. So I thought I would try to open the ports to see if it helps the game. I thought about truning on my routers QoS setting (called Intellistream (Belkin AC1200 Dual-Band Gigabit Router), but online people have said not to do that on Reddit as it can lead to issues with this router. Something to do with my network speeds above 220 Mbps.

The backstory here is quite long but I'll try to keep it short. Basically, my new internet connection got installed today. Because I already had a good router lying around, I ordered a modem (Zyxel VMG1312-B30A) to use it with the new connection. While setting up the modem I encountered a problem where I can't access its web interface, which is needed to finish the setup process. Some googling later, it looks like it has a "special" firmware version installed that blocks the access to this web interface. To install the new firmware, I have to give my PC a static IP. But, (and here come's my acual question), besides the IP itself (192.168.1.1), Windows also wants to know the subnet prefix length, a gateway and a preferred DNS, and I have absolutely no clue what's supposed to go there or what that even is. I fear that this isn't a simple question to answer, but as I said, I know too little about networking to say for sure. (I live in Germany and the ISP is o2, idk if that helps or makes things more difficult xD) Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help!

So, I have a TL-WR840N router, and I want to port forward it to host some game servers, problem is no matter how many guides I follow to a T the ports just aren't opening, so I found a forum saying your WAN should be your static IP that your ISP provides. So through a series of emails I've received my static IP and ...nothing, nada. as soon as I change the router from auto-detect to Static IP the internet just stops working, am I missing something really basic here or what? Also, if I'm not giving some important information, let me know

If I have a few static IPs and a primary network connection for those statics, how would I plug in more routers into the main router and assign them one of the static public IPs for them to act on their own network? Would you be able to port forward with no issues on the additional routers without doing anything on the main router as well?

So I was recently able to bridge my modem/router but that reset a bunch of connections so I had to make my IP static again. Every time I make my IP static in the network I lose internet access. And I can't get internet access until I give myself a dynamic Ip. pls help -Thanks

Just switched ISP providers, my old ISP conformed to the network settings I had setup on my file server 192.168.1.253 static IP, 255.255.255.0 sub net and 192.168.1.1 gateway, now with the new ISP they want me to conform to the static IP they provided. My question is do I have to setup a new network on the server or can i just reconfigure the IPV4 settings and setup all 11 workstations with the same new sub net/gateway provided by the ISP and give new IP addresses. my server doesn't have DHCP setup to just use automatic its all static.

This may or may not be a silly question. I have a 2Tb Western Digital MyCloud NAS running My Cloud OS3 that has been connected directly to my router since I bought it over a year ago with zero problems. Yesterday my router had a malfunction of some sort and the only way to fix it was to reset it to factory settings and reload the configuration file. however, because the NAS was using a dynamic IP from the DHCP, after the restore process the IP address changed which caused some minor confusion after I tried reconnecting to the mapped drive. My router (Verizon Fios Quantum Gateway manufactured by Actiontec to my knowledge) allows my to reserve IP addresses. If i were to reserve an IP address for the NAS, would I just leave it at that? or do I have to switch the NAS from dynamic to static IP. (I am not entirely sure of the difference between reserved and static IP's) Thanks

hey guys! I need some help with Setting my router to static so i can port forward. first to Point off before we continue. 1. This is a business grade Connection (All ports are open by default at the Modem/Router unit) 2. I bought an (Asus) RT-AC1750 router 3. the Modem router is giving out Private IPs due to Two Routers being linked to it. 4. There are two Routers Currently Hooked to the Router/modem my Asus router Listed in point "2" and my father's Asus router the RT-AC87R 5.Since this is a cascade network on my end, I added two Linksys 5-port Gigabit Ethernet switches to simplify the network compared to my past setup which was a Router to Router network. due to my last setup I was in no way, shape, or form to port forward properly. I did attempt at it back then but I was doing something clearly wrong. to give you a better insight of what is going on. The Router/modem is Hosting two separate networks through the same public IP, but the IPs given to the routers are Private IPs ex,; 192.168.2.*** and 192.168.1.***, as my father had a Network technician come over and set his router up I have no clue as to how it was set up. since it is clear that you can't Port Forward through a router with a dynamic IP it must be set to static. Since he is Porting his Security Cams i believe he has already taken the well known ports like 8080 and so on. since I'm planning on Hosting Lan/Wan parties on my end I definitely will not be in his Port zone, the port that I'm planning on using the most is 25565 and you guessed right, Minecraft. Now I know what private IP my father's router is using which is the 192.168.1.*** to log into it. sadly I have no clue as to what the login is for his so I can't sneak a peek at what he has setup... Please Excuse me as I switch gears here. So my Router is Picking Up the Private IP given by the Modem/Router to it which is 192.168.1.221 for the WAN port on the router. Now how can I tell my router to always Request that IP? and what other information should i add into the Other fields to complete the setup? here is the Snapshot of the Field requirements. go ahead and use MS paint to fill in the information so I can copy it onto my router and test it out. If you need any more Information Just ask. I can Provide Snapshots Of my router if needed.

Hello LTTers, I have a predicament. A friend likes to host games for us but he is enrolled in a marketing research program that requires him to add a specific router to his network that collects some information he agreed upon. Needless to say now his network map looks like this: INTERNET ------ Modem -------- Personal Router --------- Research Router (Linksys E4200) -------------- His Desktop Now the predicament: Before the Research router he used port forwarding and static IP and his servers worked. Now with the introduction of the new router left us at an impasse. Removing any of the routers is problematic because of cable lengths and other factors. So my questions is what settings does he need to set in both routers in order for us to connect to his game servers. (Forwarding the forwarding or whatever) Thanks for looking over our dilemma and we await anxiously for your ideas.

Hi, I would like to know that if is was to use a static IP address and set it to France when I am in the UK. Would I get a better connection to French servers or would it not effect it. My only thinking is that if your using a vpn in a different country you always get better ping to a server in that area. Much appreciated, Ben

Aaaaaah where do I begin... It all started here, YOU MUST READ IT! Ok, now that you have read that, here are may questions: Which "ISP" do I need for this kind of gaming server like @Johannes_Lazor mentioned. And how do I get it? Then once I have it, how do I get a hostname, so I can protect my IP, like @LoGiCalDrm mentioned: This is the only part that's bugging me, I know how to set up a Minecraft server and configure it as I have done it many times before. Thank you for your response.

If you have your network configured with a static ip, do you have to manually assign an ip address for every new device?

Hey so I've been really looking at this Swedish VPN provider that allows everything except SPAM and illegal pornography through their VPN. Tho they only offer you static IP and DNS to use. My friend said if I'd use their service to download a torrent and be logged into facebook they could find out my identity through facebook. With shared IP it's not possible since many users are using same IP address at the same time. So my question goes: is static IP bad to use even tho it's VPN?

So Bright house started rolling out static IP for residential users in the Central FL area You can get 1 Static IP for 10$ extra a month or 5 Static IP's for 20$ extra Is it worth the 10$/20$ for a fixed address?
