Hi all, I hope someone can point me in the right direction. I've been experience Random Application Crashes. And Random Issues with anything running under WSL. I cannot see any problems & my System it's self doesn't BSOD. But after throwing Prime95 at it Prime is returning Fatal Errors. I have no OC's and I am running everything stock. My system is:- CPU: I9 - 13900K MainBoard: Asus Rog Strix Z790 -E Ram : 2 X Corsair CMH64GX5M2B5600C36 Totalling 64Gb. Graphics: Asus Tuf Rtx 4090 Hope for any advise. Thanks, James.

Hello I have a 5600x with pbo and auto oc (+200) active. I was wondering if there is a way to confirm that a negative curve optimizer offset is stable without performing a long test that will take a lot of time and use a lot of electricity. Or if a certain offset is stable with a short stress test, how much should I back off the offset to be certain it is stable without testing it. (Also I was wondering if messing with the curve optimizer is really worth it if I am not thermal throttling, I get somewhere between 70-75° under load.)

Motherboards and Stability testing tools ?
Patrix87 posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hi, So I'm building 2 computers, both with somewhat similar specs and I have a few questions. PC1 (My friend RGB Build) Part: Item CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX XT Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI ATX AM5 Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 Video Card: EVGA FTW3 ULTRA GAMING GeForce RTX 3080 10GB Case: Lian Li O11 Dynamic EVO ATX Mid Tower Power Supply: SeaSonic PRIME 850 W 80+ Gold Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM Case Fan: Corsair iCUE AF120 RGB ELITE 65.57 CFM 120 mm Fans 3-Pack PC2 (My Dark Build) Part: Item CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX X670E-E GAMING WIFI ATX AM5 Memory: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 Video Card: Asus ROG STRIX GAMING OC GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB Case: Fractal Design North ATX Mid Tower Power Supply: SeaSonic PRIME PX-1300 1300 W 80+ Platinum Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM Case Fan: Noctua A14 PWM 82.5 CFM 140 mm Case Fan: Noctua A14 PWM 82.5 CFM 140 mm The context: PC1 is for a friend, PC2 is for me. I play a lot of DCS World and Flight Simulator 2020 in VR. I care a lot about stability and longevity, I don't want my PC to crash or stutter or what not. Question 1: Is the Asus ROG STRIX X670E-E worth it versus the Asus ROG STRIX B650E-F for twice the price ? The X670E-E has 18+2 power stage while the B650E-F only has 12+2. From what I understand the X670E-E should be more stable. I don't really care about he I/O. Question 2: What tool can I use to benchmark the stability of the system under full GPU + CPU + RAM load ? Question 3: Should I go with Windows 11 ? I have an HDR monitor which I heard works better with 11, but I really hate the UI of Windows 11. But if it performs better than Windows 10 then I might consider it. Ah and it is possible to create a local only account ? I don't want to link my whole pc with my microsoft account. My Goal: I want to test if my friend computer is stable with my RAM and GPU before opening my motherboard box. If it is very stable I will return the X670E-E and get the much cheaper B650E-F. Thanks-

Title: Frequent Crashes and Restarts during Gaming – Seeking Expert Advice Post: Hello fellow tech enthusiasts, I'm reaching out to the Linus Tech Tips community in search of some expert advice to help me diagnose and resolve a persistent issue with my gaming PC. I've tried several troubleshooting steps, including replacing my AIO cooler, but the problem continues to elude me. Here's a detailed breakdown of my situation: System Specifications: CPU AMD Ryzen™ 9 7950X3D Motherboard ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Hero RAM G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB Series (AMD Expo) 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5 6000 CL30-38-38-96 1.35V GPU RTX 4090 SUPRIM X 24G Case HYTE Y60 Storage SABRENT 2TB Rocket 4 Plus PSU ASUS ROG Thor 1000W Platinum II Display(s) ASUS ROG Swift 41.5” 4K OLED Gaming Monitor (PG42UQ) Cooling Was Fractal Lumen S36, just replaced with Ryujin III 360 AIO. BIOS BIOS 1709 (Most current, I've updated every time since I got PC back in July hoping for a fix). The Issue: I've been encountering frequent crashes and restarts during gaming sessions, particularly during extended gaming (3-4 hours). The crashes are often accompanied by system shutdowns, where only motherboard and RAM lights remain on. The only way to turn the PC back on is by flipping the I/O switch on the back of the PSU. Steps Taken So Far: Replaced AIO Cooler: I initially suspected cooling issues and replaced my AIO cooler with a new one. This improved idle temperatures, but the crashes persist. XMP and Curve Optimizer: I've tried running my system with XMP and Curve Optimizer settings enabled, as well as with optimized defaults. Crashes occurred in both scenarios. Monitoring Tools: I've been using HWINFO to monitor system parameters, but nothing glaringly out of the ordinary stands out during crashes. Software Updates: I regularly update my software and drivers to ensure compatibility and stability. Stress Testing: I've run stress tests like Prime95 and Cinebench R23, as well as benchmarks like Time Spy and Core Cycler. While the system seems stable in most tests, it crashes during a specific one (e.g., SHA3 test AIDA64 > Benchmarks > CPU SHA3, the one that last only a 30 seconds or so) instantly as soon as I run it the computer just goes black and restarts (not the motherboard and lights issue. Additional Information: I've checked PSU voltages with HWINFO, and they appear to be within normal ranges. (The 3.3+, 5V and 12V under motherboard I mean). I've monitored GPU temperatures during various workloads and gaming sessions, and they remain reasonable. I feel GPU is least likely to be the issue, but I could be wrong. I also thought it may be my simulated sinewave 1500VA 900W APC Back-UPS XS 1500M since it constantly reads 123-125V when it should be 120V so I literally just ordered the Tripp Lite gaming one. But it never had issues on my old PC and Ive only had it about a year. So I think I may have just wasted my money. Warranty replacements on parts take so long and I need my PC for work. I don't have time to wait, so I cannot keep dropping money. Request for Help: I'm at a loss regarding the root cause of these crashes, and I'm looking for expert advice to help me diagnose and resolve this issue. Your insights, suggestions, or potential next steps would be greatly appreciated. I've tried to be as thorough as possible in describing my problem, but if there's any specific information or logs you need to help me further, please let me know. Thank you in advance for your assistance, and I look forward to any insights you can provide.

So the problem I'm encountering is that my CPU (9900k) is not stable using my four 8GB ram sticks (Corsair LPX Vengeance) @ their XMP profile (C15 @ 3000mhz), but when using only two sticks the computer runs perfectly fine with XMP. However, if I reduce the speed of my four sticks to 2900mhz (applying XMP profile and reducing the speed) the computer is stable. Is there a big difference between 2900mhz and 3000mhz? What do you guys recommend me to do?

Hi everyone, hope you are well. Just the day before yesterday I upgraded from a 3700x to a 7800x3d. Asus tuf b650m- wifi New 2x16 corsair dominator 4800 Cl 36 New Samsung 970evo 2tb Fresh windows 10 install. I kept my old SSD running win 11, but after I upgrade I could not boot to it anymore, it gives failed and asks me rerty or try another SO. Funny thing, I have another ssd with an even older win 10 installation and it boots fine, I imaged that it is something related to tpm key that causes me to no be able to boot the older SO, but it is just a guess. Returning to the problem at hand, I installed the Chipset driver from AMD, weirdly the installation for the adrenalin failed, I downloaded 3 times I always gave error on install. Also installed steam, opera GX, notepad++, VMware player. But it seams that everything was fine for a couple of hours when I good a blue screen, memory management the first one. The Pc restarted and came back apparently normal. Started doing my business on opera watching some YouTube, but frequently the page crashes and I have to reload. Looking in the event loger it says the fault module is ntdll.dll Using "normally" again, a second blue screen happened, this time it was pfn list currupt. The Pc reboot again. I downloaded all windows update in the first boot after the upgrade and installation of windows 10. Using again, the ntdll.dll error kept happening and I kept needing to reload the page, but nothing to critical. Then a third blue screen happened, irlq not less or equal. This time the Pc got stuck after 100% and didn't self reboot. I was already worried and checked for any update that was missing on windows update, there were two but nothing major. Using it again with the crash on opera sometimes happening, a fourth blue screen happened, pool curruption in file area. This blue screen were not one after the another, I was able to use for maybe one hour and sometimes even more. During the night yesterday I kept watching a YouTube video for quite some time and nothing happend, I ended up getting sleepy, put it to shut down and went to up, waking up today I noticed that the event viewed prevented the shutdown, but no blue screen happened. I then restarted and started using, installed Bloons TD 6 and started playing while there was a video on the background, suddenly the game freezes and crashes, looking at the event viewer was another dll issue. I partition my 2tb Samsung into two disks (maybe could be something related?) The fresh windows install was on the new Samsung nvme. Right now I don't have prints, but I can get them latter if necessary. I will try to disable expo and see if something happens. But I am wondering if this is a win 10 issue and should I updated to 11. Is this a driver issue, CPU or memory? Have any of you gone through the same problem? I use the Pc to work, so I am worried about this instability. Thank you so much and any more info I can give, please ask me. Have a good day

On the Megabytes setting, what should a 32 gigabyte user enter? I have been putting 30000. However and I am getting errors 14 hours in. I can pass every other test out there and I get 0 crashes when gaming or rendering anything in AutoCAD. This lead me down the path of asking is it a viable testing tool? Well, the community seems to be split. Some love it and some hate it stating it's out of date and TM5 is far superior. That's when I saw screenshots of others stability testing and no other 32 gigabyte kit users are putting 30,000 into the Megabyte field. Even on the developer's site, the screenshot on the homepage is using like 25,000 MB. I cannot find any documentation on this particular setting and what it should be set to. Can anyone shine any light on this whatsoever?

I can only afford a budget case, but i must choose one of these two that has the most stable airflow, temps, clearence of the hardware size, if i can ask for more, the one that is easier to clean up. the two options that i have left are: https://www.phanteks.com/Eclipse-P300A.html (phanteks p300a) or https://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=726&area=es (silverstone redline RL06) my system specs are: -CPU: ryzen 5 5600x -CPU cooler: noctua nh-u12s chromax black -Motherboard: Rog strix b550-f gaming -GPU: MSI gaming x trio 3060ti -RAM: 16gb G.skill trident z 3200mhz on dual channel -PSU: EVGA supernova g3 750w -Actual case: gigabyte c200 (if its not much diference betwen my actual case or the ones that i can afford, then tell me if its better to have this one, rather than the ones i want) P.D:of course if you have a better case option than these two cases, then your advices are more than welcome here. P.D2: Sorry if my english is painfull to read, this isnt my native language. thank you .

I've been trying to overclock my GPU. I've been testing the settings by using Kombuster to check the stability. I run the program with these settings and it has never crashed, I have even tested it for half an hour without any crashes and the temperature doesn't go over 82C. But when I do normal computer stuff with these settings or play games, the computer crashes and I have to restart it. If my computer is unstable with these settings, why doesn't it crash under 100% load when testing? My power supply is 500W

I need some help with my RAM settings. I purchased a kit of Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3200MHz (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16). I already had one these kits installed so now I have 32GB but I’m running into some errors in memtest86. If I apply the XMP Profile 1 3200 MHz and run the test I get several errors into the first past. If I disable XMP and leave the speed at 2933 memtest86 finishes without any errors. So basically these are my results XMP Profile 1 2933 MHz DRAM Voltage (CH A/B) Auto: Fail XMP Profile 1 3200 MHz DRAM Voltage (CH A/B) 1.35V: Fail XMP disabled 2933 MHz DRAM Voltage (CH A/B) Auto: OK XMP disabled 2933 MHz DRAM Voltage (CH A/B) 1.35V: OK XMP disabled 3200 MHz DRAM Voltage (CH A/B) 1.35V: XMP disabled 3200 MHz DRAM Voltage (CH A/B) Auto: Fail My system specs are: Gigabyte B450m DSH3 Ryzen 5 2600 Sapphire Pulse RX580 8GB Gigabyte PB500 I’m wondering if my new RAM is defective or it just an issue with the maximum RAM speed supported by my R5 2600 (up to 2933MHz). To my understanding RAM can perform up to the manufactures specs if the rest of the system components allowed and it is not considered defective if it can perform correctly below the manufacture specs. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Hi All hope someone can give me some pointers. I have a RYZEN 5950X running on a ROG CROSSHAIR VIII HERO Motherboard, with 4 Sticks of 16Gb gSkill Trident Z RGB RAM. And a 2080IT to round it off. The issue that I have is that if I run with both CCD's running in almost all games my system will hard lock. No Blue screen just stop, some times I get a horrible buzzing through the speakers but not every time. The only way that I can get games to run stable is to switch to using 1 CCD. I would like to be able to not have to keep switch modes as it's annoy and forgetting what mode your in when you play can be well annoying... If more details are need please ask. And thank to all in advance to anything you guys can offer to help me with this issue. Cheers.

Hi! I was building a computer for a friend. Everything was going fine, but when I was going to put the graphics card on, i noticed I forgot to take out the brackers of the case in order to put the graphics card. When i was peeling the bracket off, I accidentally hit the motherboard, and i broke a little pin. It is near the audio, in the bottom left part of the motherboard. I tought it was not going to boot, but I tried and everything seemes to be working fine. I will test everything but my question is: If everything works fine, should I be worried about the satiblity and long term use of the system? I dont know if the pin I broke is important for te stability of the motherboard, or if it was just part of the audio layout. This are the parts of the system: Ryzen 9 3900x MSI B550M MORTAR WIFI RTX 3070 Kingston 1TB SSD NVME 32 GB RAM DDR4 3200 MHZ CORASIR RM 750W 2 TB HDD SEAGATE MSI MAG FORCE 100R If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Hi, I am undervolting by using negative offset value and I don't know what software to use to check system stability. I heard some say to use Cinebench R15, others say to use Cinebench R20. Also I read that someone said to use Realbench rather than Prime95 because the former subjects the CPU for tests that more accurately reflect real-life CPU usage scenarios compared to Prime95 that puts CPU under too much stress that does not reflect real-life CPU usage by average user. Or something like that...

Hello, After setting my RAM under XMP profile, I noticed BSODs every 30 minutes or so, talking about memory management. Video games also either stuck or quit to desktop. Memtest86 test results showed 1000+ errors. So what I did was disable XMP profile but increase RAM speed to 3200Mhz and it worked: Everything stable but I think my timings leave a lot to be desired: Am I right? Is there a way to optimize timings without playing with timings settings? Or voltage? I never did memory overclocking, let alone CPU overclocking. My system configuration: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200Mhz 2x8GB Kit Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite (revision 1.0) BIOS v52 GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 SSD: Samsung EVO 970 Plus 250GB HDD: Western Digital Blue 2TB 5400RPM

help PC Freezing after closing a game, PC randomly lagging
MikeChungis posted a topic in Troubleshooting
As the title suggests my PC will freeze after I close a game sometimes. Audio will cut out things won't be clickable, but mouse will move. This doesn't happen all the time but happens enough to seem like a problem. Also, while writing this for the first time too, I decided to get up and grab water, and when I came back my PC was lagging to the point where I'd move the mouse and it would take 10 or so seconds to even move. It never came back after waiting 10 minutes and I had to force power it off with the button. I've had a ton of issues with my new PC and made a post on here not long ago about some other things. I'm really not sure what to do any help would be appreciated as I have zero direction . -
So i recently went from a ryzen 5 3600 to a ryzen 7 5700x. I also bought my first nvme and doubled my ram capacity. 1- Since my motherboard is a b450m, i had to flash a new bios to use my new cpu. But now, when i try to go into my bios, i either get a black screen, or my pc crashes all together. I can still boot into my OS, although not the smoothest or most stable. My friend guided me to short the jbat pins and we got my bios opened once but i can’t get it open again. 2- In order to test stability, i installed aida 64 and ran a stress test. When the cache stress test is enabled, the test almost immediately fails. Something interesting is that the cpu temps and motherboard temps are just fine around 40•c. 3- I tried to install Geometry dash on steam in order to test both my new monitor as well as my pc, when i launched it, my second monitor/discord call froze, my main monitor went dark for about 15 seconds and when it came back, the mouse cursor was gone, the game and my pc kept freezing and i even had trouble to close the game. When i closed the game, my pixels on my main monitor weren’t properly aligned. 4- My system seems to startup slower then my previous cpu/ssd. My pc is listed with details in my profile.

So a friend of mine got duped and didn't know what he was buying and paid 2 grand for a pc pre-built with a ryzen 5600g, and the kicjer is it only comes with 8 gigs of ram running at 3200mhz. I have a 16gig kit (2x8) running at 3000mhz. I tested my old kit and it seems to run stable at 3200mhz if I do I slight bump in voltage. My question is if I send him my kit would it cause any problems ? Like can I change the voltage on specific sticks also? He's a complete newbie and a war vet so he didn't real stand a chance and got ripped off buying his first pc, so I'm just trying to up his ram a but. Thanks for your time peeps.

I've been playing Dead Space Remake, I tried to leave the FPS uncapped and I was getting anywhere between 100 to 130 FPS. So, I capped it to 90 expecting it to be more stable, which it is. But every now and then I get FPS drops to 70, why does this happen if before I simply dropped to 100? Resolution: 1440p Settings: Medium Upscaling: DLSS Balanced GPU: RTX 2080 Ti

Good afternoon everyone. I need some advices about choosing between an PCIe Wifi Adapter vs. a Wifi Extender with an ethernet connection to my PC. Assume that they both use the AC1200 band and support dual 2.4 and 5ghz, which option would be better in term of network speed, reliability and provide better signal pickup distance at 5ghz? Yes I have also considered running ethernet cable and using powerline adapter but because of the layout of my apartment and electrical socket placement positions, both of these options are not feasible for my situation. Thank you very much for your help.

Hi, so basically, out of no where in the last 3 days my computer has had apps like chorme and discord just randomly freeze and blackout while playing minecraft. I legit have no idea what's going on, other than I noticed after the apps crash, in task manager, it says windows suspended a process to "improve performance." Minecraft takes up at best 5/16Gbs of ram I have, and it does put a heavy load on the CPU, but it's never been enough to effect anything else on the system. Why is windows randomly killing processes for other programs and causing them to crash? Why did it only start on legit April 1st? How do I stop this?

First time asking for help on these sites....sorry in advance so I have 4x 4GB Hynix cjr 3200 Ram with a 2200G cpu and motherboard B450M from aorus so rn I I have settled with 3466MHz with as tight of timings as possible slowly... got everything stable mostly then overclocked my CPU Back to what I usually run it at 4GHz From its stock 3.5GHz...then next morning I thought I should double check my memtest and now I have errors around 20 mins in roughly out of a 41 minute test....increasing my ram voltage past 1.380 in bios makes it worse and lower than 1.360 is same scenario
-
If anyone could help me out with stabilizing my ram overclock that would be greatly appreciated I have a consistent timing that my errors show up during membench and zero clue as to what this may point to....I have slowly gotten my overclock stable over past few days and a system restart has changed something that was left on auto in bios I feel I can provide more info as per request

Hi all. I am wonder if a "unstable" / failing PSU could cause my system to have Very different clock speeds between boots ?

Hi All! I have just completed my Skylake build over the weekend: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/pmDM6X It's my first time overclocking a system as well, no pressure here. The tweaks that I did on the BIOS are as follows: RAM - XMP Core Clock: 4.6ghz Core Voltage: 1.250v I just wanted to share to you the results that I got after running AIDA64 for 30 minutes: I was expecting the system to crash after running it on 4.6ghz at 1.250, apparently it didn't after 30 minutes. Did I miss out on anything in the BIOS which is causing the system to not crash? What more can I do after this? Again, I am very new to overclocking, basically 3 days of studying and preparation. Your thoughts? Many Thanks!
