I am currently setting up my own server using UBUNTU 18.04.6 LTS. I have been able to connect to it via my laptop using Putty and set up the necessary directories for a minecraft server. However, I have been unable to transfer files using Filezilla or WinSCP; it comes up with an error: permission denied. I have entered all the credentials and login in the SCP tool and SSH is up and running on the Ubuntu server. I've tried looking at fixes but I haven't found anything that works. Does anyone have any ideas or a way to troubleshoot furthur? I would really appreciate the help. PC: Windows 10 Asus TUF laptop Server: Linux UBUNTU 18.04.6 LTS. Intel Xeon E3-1240 VC 3.40 GHz, Asus H16M-E Motherboard (lga1151, latest BIOS), 16gb DDR3, 1tb SSD, Elliot

This isn't really a issue as of the moment as i don't have the hardware ready for this to be a issue, im just trying to work out if i connect to a SSH session with ubuntu server, then start somthing like a minecraft server and then disconnect, will i be able to recconect to the same console again as in, can i ssh back into the server and see the mc server outputs and issues commands or will it dump me back into a normal terminal. I'm trying to set up a mini server network but it is proving to be slightly challanging. Any form of help is gravely appricated.

I use linux mint on my laptop and use ssh from my pc to do various tasks. After installing the latest version of mint, I installed ssh server from apt. The problem I am facing is, the ssh session is laggy. I have tried multuiple ssh cleint and even resinstalled the server and even reinstalled the OS. but the problem persisted. When I try to connect to a server a from my laptop using ssh it worls fine. So I dont think I have any netwrok issue. It is kind of like the screen updates after a few second after typing stuff.

First of all might be in the wrong category soo... whops, suggest which one is correct please I have a server setup at the moment to which I've generated SSH keys a long time ago. I've been using putty to connect to it and that's completely fine for what i mostly need, I know how to setup keys inside of there, etc. Recently though, I needed to use the Visual Studio Code SSH plugin to connect to a server and be able to browse/edit its files via VSC. One problem with that is that it pulls SSH keys from Windows, I'm not sure how to tell it which key to specifically use or anything as such, so I need to add a key into Windows, and existing key I already got. Is this possible to do? Everything else I've found online suggest generating SSH keys trough Windows itself, but I don't need that, I already got this setup and I want to continue using this specific key. Thanks in advance!

How To: Remotely Access a Computer, Server, or NAS
Windows7ge posted a topic in Guides and Tutorials
Having a Computer, Server, or NAS setup in your home is great for hosting a plethora of applications and services that suit your daily needs. At times though you may wish to access these systems from a remote location. Depending on your choice of OS and how you wish to remotely access your system the software to do so can vary but they all achieve the same goal. This tutorial will cover various types of remote access software that is available on both Windows & GNU/Linux based clients & servers including best security practices and how to implement them. NOTE: The majority of this tutorial is for setting up SSH/SFTP methods of remote access. If you need Remote Desktop methods skip strait to 4.3 - Remote Desktop. Additionally if you would like the extra security of a Client-to-Site VPN checkout my other tutorial How To: Access Remote Systems at Home/Work Securely from Anywhere with Pritunl. This will require changes as to how you setup your router in relation to how you configure your Computer/Server/NAS so comment below if you need help with that. Index 1. Router Setup 2. Generating a Public/Private Key Pair 3. Server Setup 4. Client Software 5. Conclusion- 12 replies

I've been led to believe that its possible to be able to run a server, either running Linux or BSD, where I can run virtual machines remotely. What I have in mind, as an example, is that I'd have a Linux machine running 24/7 at home. It would have a 32-core CPU and 64GB. Whenever I'm abroad, I'd take a quad-core laptop with only 8GB RAM but I would log into my server then I would run my virtual machines. So now I'm wondering, would I be able to feasibly use my measly 4-core and 8GB RAM laptop to remotely run a virtual machine running on 8 cores and 16GB RAM? Would the remote VM be taking all of its resources from the server machine or would it actually need any from my remote laptop as I run it and therefore cause it to blow up?

So I've been trying to get access to my FileZilla server from another network and I was able to connect the normal way but it wouldn't load my files. I found an old post on this issue on stack overflow where they solved it by using SFTP. I started trying this but now I'm completely unable to connect to my FTP server. What could I possibly try now? Thanks in advance

As the tile say, "Pterodactyl Auto-Deploy connection refused" I am attempting to set up a Pterodactyl node on proxmox and been having nothing but issues left and right, so far been able to fix most of them. This one, not so easy, I am requesting any assistance if possible. I have attached the image of what the error says, but other then that part everything else is redacted as it includes tokens and more.

Before you click off immediately, Try hearing me out. Obviously I've been all over the internet trying to find a solution to this, But I seam to having the opposite of everyone else. Started my night off with deciding I should update my PiHole server, no problem right? SSH into the thing and can't remember my password. So I just grabbed an HDMI cable to reset it... But for the life of me can't figure out why I can't get to the terminal?? It's like it's getting stuck booting, But the PiHole API still works just fine.(See pics). I can get into the web interface just fine, But why in gods name can't I get into the physical terminal? I've tried rebooting it with and without my PADD display, Did the same thing. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

https://www.wordfence.com/blog/2020/05/28000-godaddy-hosting-accounts-compromised/ https://www.techrepublic.com/article/godaddy-data-breach-shows-why-businesses-need-to-better-secure-their-customer-data/ This is hosting accounts of theirs. So, DNS users get a pass this time 'round. While they haven't said it is related, this could be additional persistent threat fallout from the March GoDaddy employee phishing breach. https://krebsonsecurity.com/2020/03/phish-of-godaddy-employee-jeopardized-escrow-com-among-others/ In short, if you use GoDaddy for anything, especially hosting at this time, you should go change your ssh keys and set up 2 factor auth if you're able. Also, check the history of files and minor edits in your sites (particularly if you're using any of the popular CMSs), as this is notification NOW of a breach that appears to have occurred last October.

I am trying to help a friend, our company is not allowing him to use FMLA to care for a sick grandmother in Nicaragua, so I was wondering if it is possible for me to setup a PC here and have him tunnel in and work as though he is stateside. the company uses a Cisco AnyConnect VPN and a NAC compliance. the PC here wqould be spec'd out to mee the needs, he should just be using a small laptop as a screen so all the processing is done on my end. this is a little more elaborate than anything I have done so I was hoping for some help in tackling it. Thanks!

I am trying to setup ssh on my ubuntu machine so that only specific ip addresses can connect to it. I am using ListenAddress x.x.x.x in the config file for sshd but every time i go to start it it gives me this error: error: Bind to port 22 on "insert my ip" failed: Cannot assign requested address. fatal: cannot bind any address. ssh.service: Main process exited, code=exited, startus-255/n/a Failed to start OpenBSD Secure Shell server.

So, I have a remote SSH connection to an Ubuntu Server machine about... 100 miles away and I'm trying to configure an email server on said machine. Trouble is, I need to get into the router, that's 100 miles away, to do some port forwarding to allow those ports to go through. Now if I were a sane person I'd have installed a VPN, or remote control on a computer on that local network to talk to the router, but I'm not a sane person, so I didn't. I have a couple questions, starting with: CAN THIS EVEN BE DONE? Keep in mind that the OS that I'm talking to from 100 miles away is the Server version of Ubuntu, and, therefore doesn't have a GUI, so, it can't render "graphics" past ascii, so I can't do the linux equivalent of going into windows and setting up a remote desktop connection. The router in question is a "cisco dpc3848vm" it was stock from the ISP in the area. What do I need to do to set this up in any semblance of a timely manner? If there's packages that need to be installed on the Ubuntu machine to talk to the router itself Will there be any funny business to get the Ubuntu machine to communicate to the router? What's the process to do this sort of thing (if at all possible) Meaning, the installation process (if necessary) Configuration of any packages that'll be required Getting the Ubuntu machine to communicate to the router Getting the port-forwarding to happen.

I am trying to make portable kali linux build with an orange pi zero (uses the H2 processor, not the H3). The 4 standard linux distros that you can load onto the orange pi zero all come with SSH because there is no AV out on the pi zero, so you have to use SSH. However, I am going to be using Kali which, to my knowledge, doesn't start up an SSH server on the initial boot. My question is, how can I load kali into a VM on my PC, install an SSH server, and set it to start when the system boots, and take that image and put it on an SD card?

Simple Question. I need to ssh into my linux device (orange pi Zero) from my phone when I am not surrounded by a network they can both connect to. The pi has a wifi adapter, so How do I host a network on the pi that my phone can connect to?

Hi, I was wondering if you could setup F@H on a remote machine and have all the points and stuff still contribute to the same 'account'. In my case, I only have command line access via SSH. I looked at the F@H pages, and whilst they did give all the commands needed and stuff, it did mention that it wasn't meant for 'command only' linux. Would you guys have any help on this? I think i've seen a few of you mentioning having F@H running on a VPS, so I would assume it is possible.

Long story short. Have to setup 4 rigs to mine cyrpto currency. Don't understand how to SSH into them. Trying to use Putty but all I can find on the net is how to setup keys which the other machine rejects. Have very little Networking experience. Can anyone help me with this?

Sorry I am a complete newbie in here so my problem is when I try to send a file(~50gb) to my server(only terminal no gui) over various methods it failed and it said connection time out. What i am guessing is that it has to do with my router tcp-timeout setting. The funny thing is i believe so that i do not have this setting on my router. So my question is do have any tips how i could transfer my file over there. I tried so far via ssh wget/curl and an apache server smb ftp

Hey all Back again with yet another networking question This time there is the setup I have a linux router, doing portforwarding using IPtables. External client logs into internal server using ssh on routers external IP What im looking for is a graceful way to close the connection Not block it, just close it. Currently I am adding a forward drop to the top of the tables list, and that breaks the connection, but it doesn't drop it properly, and as soon as I remove the rule, the connection just pops back up What im wanting is for when I drop the connection, the client drops properly and has to re connect to the server, rather than just auto connecting (If that makes any sense?) And yes I know there is a timeout, (putty will timeout if no connection is made within a certain time), but I want it to work for everything, even if the timeout isn't set on the client side Thanks again for any help, and fingers crossed there is a good way of doing this

Local server IP: 192.168.0.10 Local server IP in VPN: 128.0.0.10 Remote server IP in VPN: 128.0.0.20 I have a local Server that connects via VPN (L2TP/IPSec) to a remote server. e.g. I can access 128.0.0.20:1234 from the local server. I also have a client with the IP 192.168.0.30 Now I would like to be able to forward requests/ports from the local client like 192.168.0.10:2345 (local server) to 128.0.0.20:2345 (remote server) and back again. Is this possible? if so, what is the easy way to achieve this? ssh tunnel on the local server? Thanks

Hello, Don't have time to explain why I want to do this but know that I have control of two computers with full internet access, port forwarding only works on one but I want to get ssh on the one that doesn't have port forwarding on it, I will be physically at the one with port forwarding. I can connect to the server that doesn't have working port forwarding via Teamviewer, which I will use to initiate an SSH connection to my workstation. How do I reverse this connection to get the workstation sending commands to the server instead of the server to my workstation? Thanks in advance -LtStaffel
