  1. Hello I’m considering ghost spectre 11 on my old laptop with ssd and 8gb if ram and wanted to install a good lite windows 11 (because I heard it’s better in performance) but I’m considered that it may be an account spyware of some sort to steal accounts, is it safe? also is there other lite os better than it in performance for gaming but not too ugly? Thanks.
  2. i was using this program Splashtop_Wired_XDisplay_Agent for months and then a couple months ago i scanned it in virus total and it shows its a malware so i deleted it: VirusTotal: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/fb7d9a5cf6ae1b52786827ab9357062ec5a7a9b49d1faaaaebc4b2e2b1c5f182 JoeSnadbox:https://www.joesandbox.com/analysis/604062/0/html intezer :https://analyze.intezer.com/analyses/8eebff93-815e-478f-911a-e9c5e6ba6f5a but then i scanned it again today in intezer and it shows its clean now can i use it? i couldn't find any alternatives ? intezer today scan :https://analyze.intezer.com/analyses/27cd4886-17cf-44c5-891b-e5d254cb55f5/genetic-analysis hybrid analysis : https://hybrid-analysis.com/sample/fb7d9a5cf6ae1b52786827ab9357062ec5a7a9b49d1faaaaebc4b2e2b1c5f182
  3. Hi everyone, I have an attorney client whose email address was used to contact a customer asking for a wire transfer for a large sum of money. The attorney didn't send it, but rather a malicious person did. My first thought was that some spyware picked up his email credentials and the malicious user combed through his contacts for a target. Also it's a possibility someone was shoulder surfing when he typed in his credentials and wrote down the info. If credentials and sensitive info were stored locally or on the server, maybe his network has been hacked. What would be your first thoughts, reactions, and steps taken in this scenario? Thank you.
  4. Seeing that people are still choosing Windows and OSX over Linux/GNU even after the W10 "spyware" etc, what would they have to do to make Linux rise to the top? Excluding what linux could do better and what game developers could do, what would Apple and Microsoft have to fuck up to make more people switch?
  5. I was going through the community standards. I honestly had no clue they were even there. But I read something strange: Also discussions regarding ways to avoid or block legitimately installed monitoring/tracking software or the like is also not allowed. When I see this I think of the windows 10 privacy issues. Blocking this isn't illegal (as far as I know I'm not a lawyer). It may void your warranty but so will every other thread on this website. Why do the LMG staff feel this is important? You bought your software and if there is any form of spyware legitimate or not you have the right to remove it. edit: I see your point... I feel like I'm in first grade when school started I had no fucking clue how apostrophes worked. later after writing some stuff I went home and googled it... facepalm.jpg
  6. I was wondering what program is best for anitmaleware purposes, Superantispyware or Malwarebytes I want to run the program on a windows server 2012 R2 and know that Superantispyware will work on the OS Also im wondering if using both is a better option, using them on demand and not on real time so that they dont consume to many resources. And if anyone knows what is the best or most recomended antivirus to use on Windows 2012 R2 please let me know :3
  7. hey guys I just built my first pc and got windows installed before I left work tonight and was wondering what antivirus software to use. in the past I've always used Norton and its treated me well but I hear it its not that good. I don't want to bog down my fresh new system so recommendations for minim software would be nice thanks in advance
  8. So ive been considering getting rid of the ghostery extension. Ive got adguard with easyprivacy and the anti spyware filter on top of Firefox's anti tracking settings. i was just wondering if there was any point to ghostery with those other options enabled
  9. A few days ago, January 22, Cities Skylines received an update which sparked a major fan revolt. It goes beyond just gamers being angry, the publisher may have violated the EU's GDPR and based on evidence I've seen they are also violating Steam's TOS by manipulating the game's review score. Let me give you some background so you'll understand what the hubbub is all about. As you know, Cities Skylines took the mantle of premier city builder in the wake of the Sim City debacle. The issues with Sim City is that it had to be always online, you had to sign in to play the game. EA would later fix this, sort of, but the damage had already been done. Cities Skylines was announced at Gamescom 2014 and rest was history, until now. Many people who play Cities Skylines today and who maintain the game's many and often essential mods were all Sim City refugees, so what's happened with the game recently now feels like a major betrayal of trust. How the publisher has responded to the fan backlash makes the situation much worse. On the 22nd, Cities Skylines received an update which added a Paradox Interactive launcher. When you launch the game there is no indication that the EULA for the game has changed and there are no warning dialog boxes. Due to how the game works, Cities Skylines can sometimes take 10 minutes to launch even on an M.2 NVMe SSD if several DLC and mods are installed. The launcher adds up to an additional 10 minutes to the launch time. The launcher requires a sign in to play the game. Many players have experienced a drop in CPU performance with the launcher running and others have reported the it is also eating up system memory. Other more technically minded players have found that the launcher is dialing home and send telemetry data some remote server which may include personal information (this requires deeper investigation). The launcher has rendered the native Mac and Linux versions of the game unplayable, and it was installed outside of the Steam game directory under the USER DATA area instead. All of this without any warning or fanfare other than a post in the Steam community forums that says "We're doing this, don't riot". Some antivirus programs detect the Paradox launcher as malware. Where do things stand now? Paradox has only recently responded to the controversy and they haven't taken it very well. To add insult to injury, the game and all of its DLC was put on a steep sale. It doesn't end there, one employee called fans "SJWs who hate change" on the Steam forums. The post has since been deleted, but the Streisand Effect is alive and well. Hundreds of fans of the game have been uninstalling Cities Skylines and changed their reviews on Steam to "not recommended". This influx of negative reviews changed the game's review score from "Mostly Positive" to "Mixed". There has now been an influx of reviews with thumbs up recommendations made by Steam users with simple throwaway account names and the texts are between one to three words each. There is even one review that is just the letter "h" and that's it. All of these positive reviews came in the same day and the users have barely any playtime accumulated. So many of these strange reviews have come in that it has shifted the game's review score back to "Mostly Positive". This is clearly review tampering and a major breach of Steam's TOS which is punishable with exile from the platform. These suspect reviews have been reported to Steam in mass. That is where things stand. The fans are waving their torches and pitchforks and Paradox is acting like a thin-skinned asset flipper. They may have done some things that violate both the GDPR and (potentially) COPPA, and may have certainly committed a bannable offense on Steam. Does anyone have any marshmallows I can roast over this dumpster fire?
  10. ---------------------------------------------- Summary Due to the ongoing situation created by the covid-19 pandemic, universities across Canada have chosen to hold classes, labs, and exams online. To combat potential cheating during exams universities across the country have chosen Proctortrack to monitor students during exams. Using this method to combat cheating has raised numerous privacy concerns due to the methods that the software uses. The methods that the software uses to surveilled students are webcam and audio recording, keystrokes, screen capture, all applications or process running, hardware devices connected, facial recognition, eye movements, and knuckle scanning. After completing your exam all information that has been collected is uploaded to Proctortrack's servers for the professor or TA to view as needed. It is not specified by Protortrack how long the data is kept on their servers only saying on their website “it will be purged in accordance with the data retention policy to which your institution agreed”. Quotes "Proctortrack then monitors the visual and audio feed from the student’s computer through the rest of their exam to make sure they are not doing things like looking away from the computer screen, leaving the room, having someone from outside the room shouting answers to them, or having someone else enter their room." "Of course, this concerns many students, particularly with the threat, “if your computer setup does not meet these specifications [required to run Proctortrack] then you should withdraw from this course and speak with an Academic Advisor from your faculty or college for advice on other courses you could take” posted on some syllabi in different classes." "Wotherspoon was also concerned about how some professors were treating parents who had kids at home. “At home, the complication for me is I can’t set aside three hours to an exam without looking away from the screen. Just in a one-hour class, I have had to look away three times just to do little things like finding a shoe or stop the dog barking.” When she voiced her concerns to her professor the response she got was “It’s like any exam, you can’t leave the exam room.” And she was told to “get childcare”." My thoughts In my opinion, there are numerous other ways to combat academic misconduct without forcing students to install spyware on their computer i.e. open book exams but the questions are much harder, making the exams longer without increasing the time limit to not allow enough time to cheat, or writing original exams that do not use textbook questions (which answers are easily available for). I do have a big problem with students cheating on exams but I think this problem should be solved in less intrusive ways. You aren't allowed to look away from your computer screen without the software flagging you for cheating, which during a 3-hour exam will be nearly impossible. You won't be able to go to the washroom or get a glass of water during your exam either, all of which are allowed during in-person examinations. On top of that, if you do not consent to be surveilled in this way you are told to drop the class, which if you are trying to follow an academic plan is appalling. The biggest concern is that we have no idea where this data is going or what it will be used for in the future. One student in the article but it this way, “If you have test data for 100,000 students and you decide to say, racially profile those students and break them into what patterns are visible in different ethnicities you could very easily develop tests and exercises that would perhaps favour a certain kind of profile of person. Say Proctortrack partners with Pearson, who is a large, unethical educational institution testing company that issues standardized tests and assessments.… We’re literally paying to build a database of info on us to be used for unknown purposes later.”. Sources http://www.carillonregina.com/online-proctoring-software-is-invasive-intrusive-untested/ (all quotes taken from here) https://regina.ctvnews.ca/it-s-invasive-u-of-r-student-raising-privacy-concerns-about-new-exam-monitoring-software-1.5101673
  11. I've found that the ActivTrak monitoring software has been installed onto my computer. The program runs via an agent which goes undetected on my system, and I have no way of removing it from my PC. Is there any way I can rid myself of this nefarious software? I'm given no clues as to how it runs as none of my tasks give any hint of it running out in the open, and I was only able to find this out via trying to install it for myself, where I was promptly greeted with the response that it had already been installed by another user.
  12. Hello, I have read a bit about Windows Game Mode, and am wondering what the consensus on it is. I assume very few people use it, but if any of you do, what are the main "benefits" of it? Is it even worth the trouble or do people just leave it alone?
  13. Please be aware. if you installed it, please remove and i would say, format your PC. Source from reddit.
  14. Recently (today), I have received a message from chrome saying somebody is watching my yahoo historic, and then were informing me it was a possible hacker. I know it's probably not one, but I can conclude my school is checking our historic from distance when we are on their wifi. That's bad if I want to check things that are not allowed. So is there anyway to remove potential spyware from my pc, or to at least find them in order to destroy them? I am using the PC they give to each students, which probably means they installed something in my computer before giving it to us.
  15. Hi, today I updated my avira AV and after I updated it.. I did a scan with Hitman Pro 3.7.14 it detected these "suspicious threats" avipbb.sys avgntflt.sys I also reconnised that my PC is booting up slower than usual it has a black screen with a cursor and then after 10 seconds it boots to the log on screen. Should I delete thes? its found in System 32 drivers Thanks so much!
  16. Hello! I have this problem with my pc: it has tons and tons of spyware on it. I have tried numerous times to remove it with apps like: -SUPERAntiSpyware -MalwareBytes -ESET -Bitdefender So far all of them say I am good, exept for Super Anty Spyware, witch gives me 56 'Adware.Tracking Cookies' every time I do a scan (Even after removing them at the end of the scan) And so I click System Tools and Program Settings - System Investigator and check the box that says 'Scan results for spyware, malware, etc.' and start it. I remove alot of 'unsigned' files and a couple masivley down-voted files. I run the scan again and see only 2 PUPs. I delete them, run the scan again and I see the first green tick that it gave me. I get really exited, restart my pc, and run the scan again. What do I see? 56 PUPs that are, again, only picked up by Super Anty Spyware... (I don't know it this had something to do with it, but I was downloading some system updated in the background too...) So guys, please let me know how I get rid of this stuff, as I am quite scared of someone stealing my passwords...

    Is DDU safe?

Hello there!, My name is Inuka and I am planning to buy a r9 380 for my build people have recommended me this software called DDU I have heard people have got viruses from Guru3D (website where you download it from) I am scared that I will get one and it will mess up my PC which I have spent time and effort into.. People have said it does not contain viruses and I believe them of course! but I need to double check because I am VERRRYYYY paranoid when it comes to malware/viruses or downloading anything of the internet. My antivirus: Avira antivirus FREE Malwarebytes FREE Thanks so much for your time and have an amazing day! PS: Alternatives to DDU will be GREATLY appreciated!

  19. Hi My First topic here Many of you may encounter viruses on your PC in which your Antivirus may not found. Sometimes having an ANTIMALWARE and Antivirus is not enough. Sometimes we have to get our hands dirty. Here the most common infections consumers face and how to troubleshoot Adware: Ads that popup all of a sudden even though you are on google and display ads. These are the most common infection known as adwares. A usual scan of SuperAntispyware does the trick but if you want to get them out of there. You may want to use ADWCleaner by Xplode. This tool will remove all known ads out of your PC.Just make sure to restart afterwards https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/ Some ads even though you uninstalled them but they still keep poping out , especially the one called ads by la superba. This new type of ads somehow install them with additional change on your Computer. If that is the case you may check your: DNS: This adware hijacks your DNS settings on ncpa.cpl. Make sure the settings is "obtain DNS automatically" or use Google DNS Certificates: This is a new thing that adwares creators did, They inject Certificates on your certificate manager (certmgr.msc on run box) Make sure to look for these on your "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" cloudguard.me (There are other more but you can use google to check if those certificates are supposed to be there. WIll update this) Ransomware: This is gonna be a tough one, especially the one that is call Cryptowall. What it does it encrypts your file with a private and public key and you have to pay in order for your files to be unlocked. If you are a Vista OS and above. There might be a chance to retrieve those using Shadow Explorer or Restore to previous version. This the first type of ransomeware that uses encryption to lock files, Back then there was the FBI virus where it locks only the PC but only a reboot to safemode and you can remove it. This is more a prevention tool but it will keep your files safe, you can use CryptoPrevent or CryptoLocker tripwire. Redirections: Remember when you are doing a google search about The Avengers Comics and all of a sudden when you click the link you are redirected to a sweepstakes websites where you can win a Iphone. These are somehow still related to adware but this time it is not the adware that is causing but a Rootkit on the HDD. A Rootkit virus attaches itself to the volume boot sector. WARNING, IF your antivirus or antimalware scan detects a volume boot record, there is a chance that your computer won't boot to desktop anymore if you continue the scan. For this we use one tool alone. TDSSKiller by Kaspersky. When the alureon.e virus came out, Kaspersky was the first one to release a tool that safely remove the rootkit out of the system without harming the boot record. So if you encounter a rootkit, use TDSSKiller First. Powliks: You notice that your PC is slow but you remember you have a 6thgen i7 with a gtx980 with 32gb of ram then you notice your CPU usage in Task Manager is High. You may want to run ESET Powliks Remover first before doing any tuneups on your PC. The high CPU is an indication that it is doing something big on the background, usually if you let this untouched, you may get the Cryptowall ransomeware in the end in which it will cause more headache. That's all I can think about right now but if you have Virus concerns, and I saw it here. Expect me to respond Thanks
  20. Step 1: make sure you have win7 pro (or win8.1 pro?) and not home-premium. If you have home-premium, then close your browser and cry yourself in a corner. (Or install Arch Linux instead, your choice.) (EDIT 10-Sep-2015: if you have home-premium (or a "core" version of win8...whatever that means), you might still be able to edit the registry to "suppress" the win10 offer; so if you do, skip all the way down to my post below for more details.) Step 2: make sure you have (mostly) all the security/important windows updates installed, especially the newest "WU client" update (like this one). "Optional" updates can be left alone. Step 3: make sure you're logged into Windows as an administrator and open up the local group policy editor, easiest way to do it is type "gpedit.msc" in the start menu text box like so: ...and hit enter. (Don't ask me how to find it in Win 8.1 without the start menu because I have no idea, just "search" for "group policy" and it should be the first result.) Step 4: now in the local group policy editor, navigate to the following: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update Step 5: now in this folder double click "Turn off the upgrade to the latest version of Windows through Windows Update" and then click "enabled" then hit ok. Final result should look like this: Close the editor and now Windows will "never detect, download, or install an upgrade to the latest version of Windows" (aka win10+.) Source KB article. Have a nice day
  21. Quick Specs: - Windows 8.1 Pro N x64 - Mini-Optiplex 7010 (with 12gig RAM, stock CPU [Core i5 3470K @3.2GHz] 1TB HDD and an Radeon 5670HD 2GB graphics card.) While google is the best resource, I have yet to find something concrete to an issue i've been having. Its invaded my Web-browser now its even in my Steam. (See Screenshot-1) When first detected, I cleaned with Glary, checked my extensions in Chrome, then checked my installed programs. I found NOTHING. (can screen shot program lists upon request) So instinctively, I went into my Program Files and Program Files x86 to look through individual folders as well in my Temp Folder, Appdata and program Data, Found nothing. (Again can screenshot on request) I've grabbed Malwarebytes and ran a scan last night and found a registry entry was discovered, which I quarantined and deleted immediately. I'm doin another scan now and will grab Kasperky's Virus Removal Tool (and yes, i'm scanning for rootkits) and so far, nothing is coming up. What in the world do I do now?
  22. Found this video posted on my favourite conspiracy theory forum, ATS (Above Top Secret) In this 30 min video Dr. Katherine Albrecht discusses on the Pete Santillo show Windows 10 Malware and it's implications. She goes on to explain how Google and Gmail are equally evil and how we should stop using them. ATS thread: http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread1081350/pg1 Dr. Katherine is a long time speaker of the RFID chip and it's implications. She also mentions how we are now being tracked through such devices such as the Fit Bit etc.
  23. Do I need a firewall in Windows 7? (I already have an antivirus and Malwarebytes).
