Why is my Internet speed halved via Port Bridged Modem/Router
Omega7ven posted a topic in Networking
I hope I am in the right chat/forum for this. I recently upgraded my Internet to Telus Purefibre 1GB. When I use the Ookla speed test when connected to my Telus Modem direct from my PC, I get close to 1GB up and down. But when I go through my router (ASUS RT-AC68U) via Port 1 on my Telus Modem and it is set to Port Bridging enabled, I only get about half the speed both up and down? I have some basic to medium understanding the technology and this is my first time on this or any type of forum but would appreciate help to understand why and how to try to get the answer to this issue. -
Hi, I lately have been downloading stuff from mediafire and noticed a "Turbo-Downloader" option, I turned it on and BAM, 950MB (Mega Bytes not Bits!!) in less than a minute. The crazy part is that my bandwith is just 100MBit so like 12.5MB. After it got to me I checked in here to ask you guys if any one has a understanding of how this is possible, and if anyone would be willing to explain this as it made me curious as heck to get this questionmark out of my brain.

I'm looking a switch to put in before my router as the one they supply has good coverage but it only has a gigabit ethernet output and my house has two routers as the walls are VERY thick by brick and access points don't work even when in its in the next room. We have a single cable that goes to the other side of the house but as said it only gets gigabit connection, I have 900mbps in so obviously I don't near that speed on the other side of the house

https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb/p/N82E16820374436?Item=N82E16820374436 Is this a good deal for 7200-speed ram? Not too sure about the timings. Going to use an i5-13600k with a z790 motherboard.

I have just recently built my first PC but my parents are giving me problems about the fans loudness so I want to lower their speed without affecting much temperatures. The images I uploaded shows the fan configurations, they're a bit outdated since I u tried lowering a bit the general speed. In sys_fan1 there's 6 fans (5 P12 PWM, 1 stock 4000d airflow fan) connected to a fan hub and two CPU fans (Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ) in the cooler. I'm giving more informations if it can help. Have a 7800x3d and sapphire 7800 xt. The currently average temperature are about 30C but haven't monitored constantly the temperatures while gaming but I've seen the graphics card getting to 59 degrees in heavy load

Hello! I'm having a problem and I can't find any old topics that'd help. My PC was connected straight to a fiber optical router (Halny HL-4GMV4) via cable and I recieved 40-50MB/s of download speed (which is what the internet provider is promising) and all was well. Then I moved to another room in my house. An old router was connected here already through the attic (via cable of course) but I knew it'd be too slow so I changed it to something newer (TP-LINK Archer C6) which promised 1GB/s download speeds but all I'm getting is... 10MB/s download speed now once I connected it to my PC. As far as I'm aware (if my provider would provide me that much speed) I could even be getting up to 100MB/s in theory. 10MB/s isn't bad, it's just less than I expected. The cable connection goes from the LAN port of my Fiber Router straight into the WAN port of my new router. Then from the new router to my PC. My question is: Where did I mess up for my internet speed to be lowered like this? Is this a connection issue/router setting issue or maybe I got something else than promised? I'd appreciate any help you could give me. A (hopefully) helpful diagram is located below for y'all.

Hey, I've upgraded my PC a whiles back now, having issues with internet speed cap since the upgrade, related to motherboard I assume Issue: sometimes my net speed on speedtest is 100mbit with task manager showing network usage being 100%, and sometimes when I restart my PC it goes all the way up to 500mbit with task manager showing network usage being 50% (500mbit being my max speed provided by my ISP) To note: when I'm fixing this issue for time being with restarting PC, I'm literally just restarting PC, not touching BIOS settings or anything else. This 100mbit cap comes and goes randomly, not sure what's causing it, tried different cables too, and I got 2 PCs sitting on the same network, only PC in question is affected, no matter the network load Present motherboard: asrock b650 pg riptide (random caps happening on this one) Previous motherboard: aorus x470 ultra gaming (never had any issues on this one) Any help/suggestions on preventing this random internet speed cap from occurring are appreciated !

Hello, I currently want to know how to boost my RamDisk speed on Linux. I picked Linux since it has two ram functions builtin to the operating system. TMPFS and RAMFS. I have used the ramfs filesystem a while back on ddr4-3200mhz ram, and although fast, I would say speeds were comparable to one being on an SSD. I was expecting atleast 17gbs a second since DDR4 3200MHZ has the capability to go to 25.6GB, but the number I got was somewhat low and unexpected. 1. Is it possible to achieve atleast half of the throughput for the ramdisk. I don't expect full performance but I do atleast expect it to compete with my nvme ssd. 2. What are some tips that I can do on Linux to achieve better throughput for data for the ramdisk. Your probably wondering why do I need a ramfs or ramdisk, it's because I just want to see speed and eye watering performance numbers if possible. I don't plan using it for important data.

Budget: Roughly $2,000 - without graphics card (see below). Country: USA Goals: 1. Speed - especially when multitasking. Normally, I neither game nor edit videos. But, I do work on the computer alot. I open up many, many tabs of all kinds - including long videos - and I have multiple programs running. I want the computer to be able to handle this sort of activity as fast as possible, without hesitating or flinching. 2. Longevity. I want the new computer to last for as long as possible without really needing an upgrade/fix. 3. Silence. within reason. 4. RGB is not desired. But, some is okay. 5. I plan on getting a decent OLED monitor. But, I have to save up some money for that. For now, I'm going to use an older monitor. 6. I really want to make sure that I get my moneys worth; if I'm going to spend $2,000, then I want the best possible computer for $2,000 that will suit my purposes. Parts list: Processor: either Intel Core i9-13900K or Intel Core i7-13700k Cooler: Maybe Corsair iCUE H150i Elite Capellix XT three fan model But, I don't know if I need something more powerful, such as an Asus Ryujin III. Motherboard: This is a really hard one for me to figure out. Maybe: Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX. Memory: aiming for 64GB (2x32). Not sure if Corsair or G.Skill is better here. So, Corsair Vengeance (2x32) DDR5-6000 CL30 or G.Skill Trident Z5 (2x32) DDR5 6000 CL30 or the neo version. Storage: Aiming for 2TB for now. Maybe Samsung 990 2TB, although I've read that there has been some problems with it. * Video card: AMD 100-438373 Radeon Rx 6900 XT 16GB (I'm getting this from a friend who is upgrading his pc) If this ends up being a problem, I plan on replacing it at some point. Case: Corsair 4000D Power supply: No idea what I need. Corsair RM1000x 80+ gold (2021) or the EVGA SuperNOVA 1000w G6, 80+ Gold or Corsair HX1000i 80+ Platinum. Case fans: 3 Noctua A12x25 PWM 60.1 120mm fans This is what I am leaning towards: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tfGmrv. I understand that I can save money, especially with the processor, cooler, and power supply. But, I am not sure whether it is worth the roughly $400 in savings. I am hoping that the extra $400 gets me speed - particularly when multitasking - and longevity. But, I have no idea if it actually does. Thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.

Got a question you think lots of people have asked before? Then this topic is for you! (Most likely not final version, any suggestions for improvements are very welcomed). Things to do (feel free to leave suggestions): Edit the order from most common to least common question. Suggest some good routers in different price brackets. Suggest some VPN providers. Maybe add more questions. General polishing. Why is my Internet so slow? How can I improve my wireless speed? Quick list of things you can do to improve your wireless speeds: What do the different wireless standards (802.11n, 802.11ac, etc) mean? 2.4GHz vs. 5GHz and what does dual band mean? What is QoS? What is the difference between a router, a switch and a modem? What should I look for when buying a router? What is port forwarding and how do I do it? How do I access my router's web interface? What is the difference between Megabit and Megabyte? I have heard about this thing called pfSense, what is it? What is a VPN and do I need one?

hi there i got a laptop that for some reason is slow, like very slow back then it used to work like a charm and fast the laptop is Dell Inspiron 5567 Intel i7 7500U AMD ATI Radeon R7 M260/M265 8 Gigs of ram the CPU is slow, like so slow, its suppose to rock more than 400 Mark in passmark its suppose AT LEAST 3000 mark, as far as im aware, since its a laptop i think its different i had to install linux on it, and no difference still the terrible speed and everything, i checked my bios settings, found 2 options and disabled them 1 is C-states 2 Intel Speedstrap that kinda helped and i got 1300 mark but its still slow and its not what its suppose to get any idea of whats causing it ?? the laptop cant be just gone like that.

Thanks to shower tought i had, this question is been stickinng in my head for quite a while. Let's say I have 1TB crucial P3 Plus, which is cheap NVMe gen 4 drive with max sequintial speed of 5GB/s read & 3.6GB/s write with this scenario's: Connected to PCIe 4.0 x2 link Connected to PCIe 3.0 x4 link Connected to PCIe 4.0 Switch (PLX-like) chip, linked at PCIe 4.0 x4 to SSD and attached to PCIe 3.0 x8/x16 lane on the motherboard (the PLX card natively have PCie 4.0 x8 lane) Does 1st/2nd scenario will resulting in SSD controller try to saturating PCIe bandwitdh available? Like for example saturating PCIe 3.0 x4 / 4.0 x2 bandwidth (3.2GB/s)? For third scenario, imagine that single SSD is the only one currently connected to PLX switch, does it's still deliver close to the actual rated sequintial speed of the SSD? I know there's some latency etc involved on all scenario, but I'm curious at the max throughput part only Thank you in advance!

Hey there, I am from Canada and i use Bell's GigaHub 3000 (3000mbps download/upload). I also have a Cat7 cable (supposedly 10,000mbps/s speeds). My motherboard is the Gigabyte AeroG Z690 DDR4 with a 2.5gb Ethernet port on the IO. When i do speed test on google or Ookla, i only get around 980mbp/s speeds, but on the Hub i get the 3000mbps speeds. Can someone help me solve my internet issues and get what i pay for? Thank You,

Hey, I'm experiencing a strange issue with my Gigabyte RTX 2060. The fans can not be controlled by any software. I've tried 3rd party, Aorus Engine, MSI Afterburner and everything inbetween. The reason why I'm desperate to control the cooling fans is because as soon as the GPU hits any kind of load, the fans ramp up to 100% and never comes back down until I restart the system. At idle the GPU is sitting at 29-31 degrees celsius and under load (typically MW2) it's sitting at 55-65 degrees. Even with headset on it sounds like my computer is trying to fly away. In Aorus engine none of the sliders will even move. It is detecting my GPU, but nu functions are available. In MSI Afterburner the slider on the dashboard can be adjusted, and the GPU fan speed curve can be adjusted. But my card will not obey. In fan control by Rem0o, it is detecting the GPU, but is greyed out so it can not be controlled. Has anyone encountered the same issue before?

Hello, So I've been wracking my brain for the past few hours trying to figure this one out. For context: I was previously running my PC using 2x8gb sticks of RAM in my MOBO (MSI B85-G43 Gaming). As this was my first build, I stupidly added another single stick of 4gb RAM to my system at a later date, as I was given it by a friend - I thought nothing of it at the time. Years pass. Only now, since my PC has started running more slowly, I have been looking into new parts and refreshing myself on hardware that I discovered that for all this time my RAM would have been matching the speed of the slowest stick (4gb). So, I purchased 2 x 8gb sticks of RAM this week, the exact same as the originals (Kingston Hyper X Fury DDR3 1866MHZ) to solve this issue, in the attempt to speed up my system and give it more longevity. Before replacing, I checked the performance of the RAM: the system was only detecting 12gb of DDR3. With only 7.9gb available. Awful. This morning, I took out the 4gb stick and replaced with the new sticks. Which I thought would solve my issue, but has actually caused more problems than to begin with. Once I completed the installation, the computer booted. And I went from having the aforementioned 12gb of available RAM to 16gb available. To clarify, this should be 32gb available. As I now have 4x8gb DDR3 Kingston Hyper X Fury. Confused, I started with some software fix attempts. Starting with MSCONFIG, Advanced options, and attempted to increased the bandwidth of the RAM. This failed, and would only go as high as 16gb in total. Following that, I attempted some hardware problem solving. So I removed some sticks - trying to figure out whether the new RAM I had purchased was actually faulty. Then my PC stopped booting. I restored the BIOS to factory settings, but this didn't solve anything. At this point, I just wanted to diagnose as to whether there was a faulty stick of RAM, so I tried all of the different combinations to see if the RAM or the port was faulty. None of those were true. Each RAM and slot work, as they appear in my bios board explorer. I also checked under the OC section on the bios and they're all appearing in the correct DIMM1-4 slots. However, here they also only show up as 888hz each - which would explain why the total is maxing out at 16gb. I fixed the boot error, by installing wiping my OC and installing a new version, keeping my files. But removing apps and settings. As this was the only fix I could find. (This was a separate issue I encountered for the day. Nightmare. But solved now at least) This leaves me with one question: how the hell am I supposed to get these sticks running at the correct speed/capacity then? So, here are the solutions I have tried so far. Software: - double checked I am running a 64 version of windows, and that my MOBO is capable of 32gb RAM. Both of these are correct. - tried running msconfig and expanding bandwidth. BIOS: - I have searched high and low for the XMP option. Not Available. - In the OC settings, I changed DRAM frequency to DDR3-1600mhz (the highest option). No luck. - Tried to find the setting for memory remapping. Still no luck. Hardware: - I reset the CMOS on the MOBO with a screwdriver and the two pins on the instruction manual. I feel like I'm running out of options, but I'm worried there's probably an easy fix that I'm overlooking. Would be great to keep my trusty first build running for as long as possible. I'm worried that installing that slow 4gb stick all that time ago has caused a change in the system of some sort, which is why they're all appearing as 4gb instead of 8. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Budget (including currency): Country: Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: gmod, cod, Fortnite, Minecraft (with shaders) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I was wondering if I should upgrade to 3600mhz from 3200mhz but it’s a little bit more expensive, so should I save my money or just get 3600mhz (ddr4 btw)

Hey, recent 1st time build and I am confused. Pretty sure I did something wrong. Computer Specs: CPU: Ryzen 7950x Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix B650-A RAM: Corsair Dominator DDR5 2x32 64GB total GPU: ASUS TUF Gaming AMD Radeon™ RX 6800 XT OC Edition SSD: Corsair MP600 PRO LPX 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe x4 Gen4 Cooling: Corsair IO w/ 3 fans & 6 additional case fans. When i get to the Bios regardless of messing with overclocking or not, it tells me the DRAM speed is sitting at 4800 mhz. It recognizes the 6000 is installed but I never get that under the status. What am I missing? My thought is that the motherboard can only handle 4800 mhz of speed across it, but when I re-read the specs of the motherboard it would appear that it can handle the 6000 mhz. But I also feel like I am reading something wrong, or misinterpreting something. Can someone explain this to me like I'm 5. Hello i am having problem with ssd slow write speed. A month+ ago i had same problem and got into microsoft forum to solve it, i did solve it then by placing ssd as first boot device in Primary, Secondary, and Error boot sequence in bios. But problem appeared again, here is image how write speed shoud be on but now is 30mbps. I searched on google and tried some things like enable TRIM, ACHI, write caching.... SSD is Lexar NQ100 240GB Im also using SATA 2 cable instead of 3, my mobo doesnt support Sata 3 anyways

When I download on steam specifically on my PC I get download speeds that rarely exceed 15mbps. Any other device on my network can download consistently around 350mbps. My PC previously could download at these speeds and I have made no changes. The only other thing I can think to try is re installing steam, but I am worried it will mess with my games files I will attach a screenshot so you can see the speed in which I'm downloading Troubleshooting tried My PC is idle Nothing is running in the background It is happening if i change my download location to another drive Happens when I download a different game It is not happening on my laptop over wifi or my other PC over lan (this is when downloading exactly the same game too) I have cleared the steam cache removed any limitations and applied limitations Changed server download location Tried removing data limitation in windows I also get consistently high download speeds on other applications on the same device. Meaning it is only steam on this one PC.

I have an old IBM x3650 m4 with two E5-2630v2 and 24x 16GB Dual-rank RDIMMs. Till this i ran all 384GB at 1333MHz, now i just wanted to try it with 256GB or 128GB for faster Speeds. If im not mistaken i should get 1866MHz with 1 RDIMM and 1600MHZ with 2RDIMMS. But i only can get 1333MHz. I set every power setting to max, no mirroing or rank sparing and used only the white slots. I attached pictures of my current 128GB configuration. Link to the manual page 50 (62) onwards: https://systemx.lenovofiles.com/help/topic/com.lenovo.sysx.7915.doc/x3650_M4_7915_isg.pdf Has anyone experience with IBM Systems? Am i just stupid and mess up? I can provide more Information if needed. Ty, in advance Specs: IBM x3650 m4 Dual E5-2630v2 24x 16GB 2Rx4 PC3-14900R-13-12-E2-D3

I did a rundown in a short here but Ill explain in text form as well I have 2 ssds: 1TB (older slower) and 2TB (this one to be specific :https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08PMLYV9H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) Since my old one is the same speed as PCIE 3 I moved it to a PCIE 3 slot but it still has my Windows 11 operating system on it. I then put the newer SSD on the PCIE 4 slot since it should match its speed. Currently Im running it as is with my 2TB just as just more storage. My theory is that my computer would run a bit faster if I moved my operating system to the 2TB as its on a faster slot and it currently may be throttled at the PCIE 3 speeds. Can someone confirm this? Now if that is the case. Will I have to clear my 2TB to install a new operating system then clear the operating system off the old one? I guess I just dont want to have to shuffle files around and such as its a hassle. Thank you to any advice or corrections to my understanding.

Hey, I'm looking into upgrading my ram and i'm wondering what the best speed would be. I think that i'm gonna go for a 32 gb kit. I have read that the cpu only supports ram speed up to 2993. Does that mean a 3200 or 3600 kit wont work? I would gladly apreciate any specific suggestions of ram. Current parts: Asus rog strix b450-f gaming Ryzen 2600x rx6600 Corsair 2x4 DDR4 2666Mhz Thanks for any answers in advance!

For some reason my ram speed is at 2747, I didn't have xmp enabled for a while, I enabled it a few months ago and it will only go to 2747. My board supports 4000+MHz and my sticks are 3600MHz yet they are staying at 2747. How do I fix this?
