  1. anyone could guide me what pc is best for solid works 2020
  2. Buddy of mine here in the US asked me to spec him a computer. He's a machinist and will be using this computer for Solidworks. He doesn't need any peripherals, just the PC. Said he'd like to spend less than $900. I really know nothing about Solidworks, but I tried to do some research on it and put together a parts list. I'm thinking the Ryzen 5 3600 with a Quadro M4000. That would come out to $828. I don't know how big of projects he works on or how Solidworks even runs. Any help with this? 3. Hi all, I'm new to the forum, familiar with the content of Linus. I'm an mechanical engineer in Holland and have a lot of experience with solidworks and Inventor. Looking at all the game pc builds I started to make some plans of making one for myself to replace my old crappy laptop. Although I also want to be able to do some 3d modeling on it. Now in the experience I have the most parametric cad programs can only run calculations on 1 core (because solving a model happens sequential). I have recently worked on a pc that was equipped with a p2000 gpu, but when the model was struggling the gpu had a 3% load. So I thought, is a gpu a requirement for 3d work? Do I need as many cores as possible for CAD work? Hope the community can enlighten me a bit on the requirements for CAD programs as I don't see the use for many cores and gpu power ( except when rendering images of course) Aldo never saw a video about cad stations which I would like to see ;) Thanks in advance,
  4. Hi, I'm trying to build a PC (preferably a mini ITX) for my 3D modeling and rendering, the PC would be mainly used for that purpose. My budget is around $1200 but would limit myself at $1500. I have not a lot of knowledge in the PC world but I need to get one since I have to use Solidworks. These are some parts I have found just exploring around and looking at different reviews etc. CPU: Intel i7 8700k GPU: Nvidia quadro p2000 Motherboard: Gibabyte z390 I Aorus pro wifi Mini ITX Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32gb (2 x 16) DDR4-3000 Storage: Western Digital blue 1TB m.2-2280 SSD Case: NZXT H1 (would include power supply and CPU cooler) According to PCPARTPICKER price is $1425 I have mainly based my choices from Javelin Tech Solidworks hardware recommendations (Here), would like any advice or parts or anything I can change to the parts list making sure that everything is comparable and will work together perfectly. Anything to keep the performance but lower cost would be amazing.
  5. Hi guys, I’ve been planning to build my second computer for a couple months now and was trying to find tutorials on how to model a PC build using Blender, SolidWorks, or any other software, as I’m planning on building a dark purple-pink themed “outer space” theme build (similar to Nebula, Jayztwocents’ personal build). I've got a parts list in mind but was hoping I could create a mock-up before actually buying any parts to see how things turned out, and make any necessary modifications. If anyone knows where I can find some videos, forums, or other information, or even have parts suggestions to match my theme that would we awesome. Thanks
  6. So basically I was being stupid and decided to just try to move solidworks program files from c drive to d drive. I somehow moved, them but obviously it didint work. Then i panicked and just started deleteing all soldiworks files, from program files, users, everywhere. However, in control panel, solidworks still shows up, but when, it tries to uninstall from there, it doesn't work, and continuously fails. I had tried reinstlaling soldiworks only to go in this cycle again, and I am here, with no solidworks instqaller files or anything, but solidworks still shows up still in contorl panel, and doesnt uninstall. I even deleted all solidworks registry files.
  7. I want to build a PC around $1000. Now, this PC shall have 2 main tasks: • Supervised/unsupervised learning (as of now. Will move onto more complicated tasks later.) • SolidWorks Now I need a little help with the build. Should I opt in for a Quadro with a greater budget, or put greater priority into the CPU? Can someone please list the complete build for me?
  8. I wanted to build a workstation for engineering design using solidworks. I don't usually perform simulations and stuff but I use it only for 3d modelling and assembly (sometimes large and over 3000 parts). And i use only a single monitor with VGA. I was currently looking into quadro series for a graphics card but i don't know how much better they are from the GT series. Budget is around 60000 rupees ~ 850$. Motherboard - Gigabyte H31 9th gen CPU - i5 9th gen 9400f RAM - 16 GB ddr4 crucial SSD - 240 GB SSD kingston Hard drive - 1TB GPU - Quadro preferably (was thinking of a k4200 since it's available for 18000 now on amazon.in) Please help me build a system. Thanks
  9. I am in need of a laptop for a fairly specific workload. I just can't seem to put all of the pieces together for what I want EVEN IF i am willing to lay down some real cash. Workload -simple to complex Solidworks CAD parts and machines. I do not have Solidworks Simulation. I will work with assemblies up to the full size cars but not production levels of detail. I do not need the laptop to do well on the large assemblies. If it can view and do simple editing at that level I would be happy. -Typing -Occasional Gaming Here is my list in order of priority. some of these are easy, some are not. CPU-- i7-8750H or better (single thread is the most important by far) GPU-- Quadro T1000 or better performance in Solidworks. I am not opposed to RTX 20xx cards SCREEN-- 4K preferred or 144Hz. 15" prefered but i could be convinced for a 17" Keyboard-- Must be excellent for long periods of typing. I prefer higher actuation force (I'm used to a Aero 15x) Ten Key Pad-- Is very important but I can get a Bluetooth one if i have to Thunderbolt 3-- If the graphics card isn't enough to handle the big assemblies I will get an EGPU Quadro RTX Storage-- NVME 1TB or larger. Dual drive of any kind would be very nice things that are not important to me Battery life RGB webcam touchpad quality IO other than Thunderbolt Fan Noise Speaker Quality
  10. Hey Need some input on this, been thinking about it for a while and want to start building soonish. Here are the two primary places I'm shopping, there are others but their return/replacement policies are rubbish. https://www.wootware.co.za https://www.pcexpress.co.za Would prefer not to do any amazon shopping because of customs I know the PSU is a bit overkill but I wanted something with a zero rpm mode that'll run for all the light stuff (Web browsing etc.) and keep things quiet once the AIO is in place even in heavier tasks. Was thinking about getting some corsair ML120's at a later point to replace the case/AIO fans later to make everything super quiet/matching.
  11. A friend of mine is looking at an entry level workstation for SolidWorks and MasterCAM, and after trying my hardest I convinced him to go desktop for the value. What I've been wondering is whether the iGPU on the 2400G, which you could say is around RX 550 in performance, will run that software. I've looked at Google and found a couple instances of people using the iGPU on their workstations: https://www.thegeekyhippo.com/configurations/workstations/workstation-config1 However, I haven't found anything specific to the software my friend wants. Here at LTT we have experts from basically every field, so I wonder, does anyone have any experience using the APU on SolidWorks or MasterCAM? As usual, thanks for the help!
  12. I'm in need for an upgrade of a mobile workstation. I currently have a Thinkpad L450 with an i5-5200u and a 72wh battery. I did me good service but its 4 years old and not fast enough for my workloads. Budget: 500-1000€ in germany (i can get student discounts). If there is a really good reason i can go to 1200€ Usecase: 50% office (powerpoint, excel and pdf's, also outdoor use), 40% Design engineering (Solidworks assembly of 500+ parts, matlab, Ansys Workbench, Altair Inspire, rarely 3dsmax, Programming), 10% photo editing in lightroom Mobility and IO: My laptop is still good for office use and i have a place in my university where i can leave stuff safely. My idea was to use a itx machine or a intel nuc with this: Nexdock. I know its a bit weird but it would be usefull for like raspberry pi projects too so its something. I do need sd card support and a decent keyboard and trackpad combo. Also thunderbolt is a nice bonus for future eGPU upgrades. RAM/ROM: everything will be upgraded to 16gb ram. I need at least 500gb of space but i have a 500gb 2,5" ssd on hand so if supported i would just use that, no need to upgrade the NVMe drive. This is what i have considered so far. I honestly can't decide what to do. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1L1MTAjGc1m-psDUdSkTZLTBB2W4Gju5az60NM_p-Kpg/edit?usp=sharing I have heard that AMD consumer GPU's are better than consumer Nvidia ones but i'm not really sure if that makes a big difference. Also are Intel 15W Cpu's even a good idea for this kind of workload? I feel like i should go straight for the 45W one and get a gaming laptop. What about AMD integrated graphics, is that halfway acceptable?
  13. Is Ryzen 2700x good for SolidWorks with Quadro P4000? or any other build alternative which can cost around 2000$?
  14. Hello guys, I am an Engineering student. I am currently thinking whether i can use my RTX 2060 with RX 580 (currently not have) to work in one system. The system is used for 3D CAD (Solid Works) and for playing games, Machine Learning and other stuffs. So i am thinking whether it is possible to use the RX 580 for the solidworks and RTX 2060 for other stuffs beside solidworks? If it is possible, do you think it is needed? any other recommendation for my usage? Thank you for your reply! Looking forward for your reply!
  15. Short version, 1. Budget & Location I'm trying to keep it under 1500usd. Building in California. 2. Aim Mostly for learning heavy duty solidworks and other cad programs with eventually doing full machine modeling for firearms engineering and material science study. 3. Monitors Starting with one, will do more when we have a larger battery bank on the trailer. 4. Peripherals Got a good mouse but need a good keyboard with full numpad. Going to game on it but I'd rather have quieter keys. Walls are paper thin, my wife's a morning lark and I'm a night owl. 5. Why are you upgrading? My Lenovo y700 is starting to have issues and it's really chugging on the larger cad files. Long version, My wife and I are got stupid lucky/unlucky and inherited a house that allows us to go back to school for the next year as well as actually go on our honeymoon six years after getting married. I'm from Belgium originally (Belgian fries ftw) and have never had the chance to go see the country so we're going on a few month road trip while we rent out the house for skool moneyz. My four year old Lenovo is starting to crash more frequently when running solidworks and is starting to overheat here and there with the 90+ degree heat in CA. I'm running a GTX960M 4gb vram 16gb ram and a quad core @ 2.3ghz. I got the laptop to go back and forth to school originally but now that all my schooling is online I can go back to tinkering with desktops. Last time I built a desktop was when top notch was a single core 733mhz machine. Now I'm trying to see if I can build a desktop that can stand up to being in a trailer. I don't mind disconnecting all the peripherals and wires when we stop somewhere for the week it just needs to be sturdy so I don't destroy my gpu connection or something. Does anyone have any recommendations for the ultimate Lan party pc? I've got access to a very big metal shop to make fittings and sheet metal parts to stabilize things but I'd rather go for out of the box warranty etc and a proven build if anyone's got it. I can go back to a newer stronger laptop if this doesn't exist but it kills me that I can't upgrade my laptop. Any help on this would be shweet.
  16. hello LTT viewers! I'm new to the forum and have been a regular LTT watcher for a while, but never join the forum. I'm coming here today because I need you guy's to help me in building a workstation. I'm an industrial design student and other then gaming occasionally I have to Sketch, build Solidworks 3D model, keyshot, fusion 360, Vray and rhino ETC. I've never built a PC of my life and only have been buying laptops (MSI GP60, Lenovo P40 yoga), so I'm still a NOOB on the desktop side. My budget is around $1000 and doesn't know if this price is honestly even possible (due to how pricy Quadro cards are)...if you guys or LTT workers see this, please help (a PC part picker link or a list would be greatly appreciated) Thanks for reading
  17. Hi guys, I just graduated mechanical engineering and need to up grade my desktop pc for a more serious work load since i have been using my macbook pro 2015 running bootcamp through out my schooling. It has been a great companion and has been reliable running solidworks with decent size assemblies and simulations but just wont cut it for professional work with larger tasks. i will be running mostly solidworks and autocad. I currently have a Asus P6X58D Premium mother board with a I7 with 6 cores(not sure what gen or speed) , as for ram whats currently in there is Kingston 6 GB triple channel (3x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL9. And for graphics is a really old amd 1gb card. OS is windows 10 Pro currently what i have planned for upgrading is: -24GB (3x8GB) Kingston HyperX Fury Black 1600MHz -PNY nVidia Quadro P4000 8GB -Kingston A400 960GB SATA3 6Gb/s 2.5" Max Seq.Read:500MB/s,Max Seq.Write:450MB/s i know most of this stuff is not all bleeding edge tech like DDR4 and Nvme M2.0 SSD, my mother board is like 8 years old. I have been contemplating building a whole new PC but its really not in the budget for me. Does anyone have any suggestions if im going about anything wrong or can for see any issues i could run in to? Thanks.
  18. Recently, I sold my desktop due to my ending interest in playing games in favor of CAD (specifically SolidWorks) and I'm now looking to replace said desktop with a Laptop. My workload doesn't demand an awful lot of power, but preferably more than what the 2013 MacBook Airs that we used in school offered. I've been looking at Lenovo's ThinkPad line-up, seeing as the device I'm writing this on is a Lenovo T61 and happens to be the only computer I have left, but they're a bit pricey. My budget is very flexible, anything from €1000 to €2500 goes, but I want to make sure I get the most out of it. Priority CAD, with mild gaming as second. Also, I live in Sweden. Thanks in advance
  19. Hi all, I'm new to building, but I've watched LTT for a while so I have a slight idea as to how I should go about getting started. I've come up with a fairly good value-for-money rig (UK): https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/zfJtm8 Preferably the price would not go much above what it is currently. I've consulted with some friends on discord, but I figured that here would be the best place for some expert advice. Alternatively, here is an i3-8350k list that I also compiled: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/zQx2KZ Any opinions on which system would be better, or any improvements I could make would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks, Tom
  20. I have an £850 budget, and am building a PC for fluid simulation(CFD) /modelling(SOLIDWORKS) /gaming. I can go over it, but I don't really want to. I'm spending around £680-700 on this*: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/cvvbsJ *except I don't know which MSI x99S board I'm getting, or what RAM config, just that its 16gb DDR4. I am fully aware x99 is not on board graphics capable, which leaves me around £150 to spend on a GPU. Right now, I only play World of Warships (and light games like Dead by Daylight, no heavy FPS AAA games) - and I have a laptop with 960m that I am currently playing those on, perfectly fine. So questions: 1) Is there a better performance SSD I can get for a similar value? 2) Is there a case you guys recommend that supports more than 2x 3.5" drive bays and Corsair H100i V2 watercooling? 3) What would you do graphics card wise? I want to do something like a GTX 1060 6GB or higher but it's just too expensive right now (I'd be willing to break the £850 barrier to get one at a decent price e.g. £250), so would you wait for a price drop when mining has a false crash and ebay is flooded with scared miners and their GPUs, or would you go for a temporary scrubby GPU like a GT 730 for nothing more than video output - as again, I am fine playing games on my current laptop. It's not like solid works needs the graphics acceleration anyway, but idk about CFD. I am happy to wait on a system I can't use for a GPU to appear. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and respond!
  21. My current laptop just isn't cutting it for the workload that I'm asking it to do. I'm planning to build my first pc and would like some input. I'm an engineering student in 3rd year from B.C., Canada, so if Canadian pricing is preferable. I'm not set to a specific constrained budget (which is sort of a problem as my build keeps getting more expensive), but I'd like to keep under 1000 CAD. My primary use will be for school, and possibly some light gaming, although to justify it to my parents it's for my school workload. The primary workload I have for school is design work, primarily with Solidworks, although I am also using the Altair software suite. Along with this design work, are simulations to validate the designs. While working on designs for my school's formula SAE team, we have quite large assemblies which really strain my current laptop ( open the file and come back 3 minutes later kind of performance). With that in mind here is my build. I don't have to pay for windows thanks to my school CPU Ryzen 5 1500X CPU Cooler Cooler Master - Hyper 212 EVO Motherboard ASRock - AB350 Pro4 ATX Memory G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Storage ADATA - Premier Pro SP600 256GB 2.5" SSD Video Card Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Case Deepcool - TESSERACT SW ATX Mid Tower Power Supply EVGA - B3 450W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/marriokart/saved/76jccf I'm not set on the 1050 Ti, I may try to pick up a used quadro, as Solidworks can't make use of non-workstation cards. I would also consider an intel build, especially with coffee lake,as Solidworks is much better optimized for intel, although ryzen seems to be much better value. I'm going to add a HDD at a later time,I don't tend to use a whole lot of storage. Any tips or recommendations would be very appreciated.
  22. Hello everyone, Me and my f@cked up buddy we will start a huge project building our own pc case as "tidy" as possible for watercool, 2 gpu etc etc etc.... So I was thinking if we can find some general components as a solidwork parts so we can just implement them instead of designing them. I know that @TaranLMG did some project with 3D printing. I don't want to spent 3 months just to make all the part (I don't really mind if they are not in the exact shape). Thank you very much and I hope I will have a positive response!
  23. So I am thinking about getting a laptop for engineering applications, modelling and simulations. Programs used include MIDAS GTS NX, ANSYS, Solidworks and some more. Types of analysis are nonlinear static and dynamic time history analysis. So I was looking at this laptop and it caught my attention. Anyone has used it? Do you recommend it? How good is it for my workload? CPU: i7-8750H GPU: Quadro P2000 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834154877 Thanks.
  24. Hi, I recently built my new workstation with these specs. I have been working my way up the chain of flow simulations in Solidworks 2019 and will later move into Star CCM+. While tuning in my 4GHz oc, I noticed in task manager that my CPU load was blipping up and down rather than remaining at full 100%. This dose not happen during a Cinebench R15 test. Not sure what performance hits I might be taking due to this or if it is standard behavior for this program. Will keep testing and see what I can find. Any ideas or experiences from you guys? Thanks!
  25. Hello, Im a 3D scan engineer based in the Netherlands. Currently, our company is looking to upgrade the hardware we use for 3D scanning and the reverse engineering of the data. We currently have 2 HP ZBook 15 G1 with the following specs: i7 4800QM 16GB DDR3 256GB SSD NVIDIA Quadro K2100M 2GB We use the following software: Solidworks (CAD) Geomagic Wrap (Software for 3D scanning and processing the data (pointclouds/meshes) Geomagic Design X (CAD software especially made for reverse engineering from 3D Scan data) Polyworks (Scanning/Quality Control program) We currently experience alot of waiting time with Geomagic Wrap, mainly when calculating meshes and processing pointclouds. I know we could run a beefy dekstop workstation, but around 60/70% of the time, we scan on location. The budet per notebook will be around 1500/2000 euros. But feel free to tip more expensive gear if it benefits us more! I hope I provided enough information for you guys to help us out!
