Okay, so I want to get people's opinions on this. I hate USB mics in Windows! Every time you record audio for anything, it will bump up or down the volume, it will change the pitch or speed, and most recently it completely muted all of my system devices for no reason! I have since switched to XLR, and with solutions like the Alto ZMX52 interface and the BM/NW-700/800 microphones being so dirt cheap now, I am confused on why more YouTube creators and streamers aren't making the switch to XLR! These issues have been integrated since Windows Vista (earliest reports that I could find) so why stick with USB?!?

As the title says, plugging in the Blue Snowball causes a BSOD in windows 10 pro. I've tried everything I can find to fix it and currently waiting on a response from customer support. I tried a different USB cable and port. I don't have a hub of any kind so i tried connecting through a USB pass through on an old keyboard. Thought I'd mention that cause people seem to think it should fix everything. Through my testing I've confirmed that it isn't the hardware as the microphone works perfectly on my other PC with windows 10 home, and on the current PC in Ubuntu. However in windows 10 pro it blue screens. Please help! Thank you UPDATE: Reinstalling Windows seems to have solved the issue as the mic is no functioning and has yet to cause a BSOD.

Hello all! First of all, my specs : W10 Pro, build 1607 Intel Xeon e3-1245v3 ASUS H81I-Plus Gigabyte GTX 1070 Mini I have an issue with my Blue Snowball iCE. Whenever I record something, be it OBS, Audacity or Shadowplay, I keep hearing some random sound "artifacts". Especially in Shadowplay the recording really freaks out, having a constant hissing sound on the right side. I've tried updating any sound-relevant drivers I could find, but to no avail. The BIOS is up to date as well. Here's a small clip of a Shadowplay recording (uploaded to YT) . Sometimes it gets even worse and there's a constant and very aggressive white noise, but only on the right side. Is there anything more I could do to try and fix it?

Hey there together, i have the USB microphone snowball from bluemic for some time now. This microphone has also been tested and recommended by Linus and many other Youtubers. Unfortunately I have a problem with it: The microphone picks up far too much noise. If I walk through the room or if someone speaks a little louder in another room, you can hear it via discord, for example. Since it's a USB microphone, it should have its own audio driver, so I can't improve anything with a sound card or similar, can I? Does anyone has an idea? I am looking forward to your suggestions. Many thanks in advance! Luwis00

I broke my mini usb port on my blue snowball ice a little while ago but i was wondering, what part i would need to buy to replace it? Also for some reason i have a Mini USB version instead of USB B version hopefully that doesnt cause problems. If you could link a video on how to install new part that would help too.

Hello people of the LTT forum, So Im using a HyperX Cloud 2 headset, but I need a new mic. So my budget is aroun 60USD (keep in mind I dont live in the US - I live in the Czech Republic). I can get a Blue Snowball iCE for about 66USD or order the ModMic 4.0 from their website - with shipping it comes up to 62USD or from amazon.de for 72USD (Im not really sure which is better, because VAT and import fees) Those are probably the two best options around here. Thank you

I'm in the market for a new microphone for streaming and video commentaries/voiceovers I have my eyes on the infamous blue snowball, but I'm also look at some other ones, and I need an opinion The Blue Yeti, RODE NT-USB, Audio-Technica AT2020 USB PLUS and the Razer Seiren I would only get these microphones if I could find a good deal on them, as they are all around the same price. Something like sub $125 Anyone, is there anything I need to know in case one of these go on sale? Are they all relatively good and will last Also, when I'm streaming, the Mic will be on my desk, about 9 inches (23 cm) away from my mouth. So, yeah, any opinions?

So I bought the Blue Snowball (not ice) about 2 years ago. I've been using it for voice calls and for videos. I can never figure out how other youtubers manage to make it sound absolutely perfect, without any editing. Also, I have to be practically licking the mic for it to be a moderate volume. Any setup advice?

So ive got a friend with a blue snowball and basically the problem is everytime he launches any game yes even singleplayer ones with no built in voip feature, his mic spikes to 100 and explodes our ears with static. Yes we have done the exclusive control off, yes we have set the sound communication thing to "do nothing" It wont go away, every single game, no matter what, instant mic spike to 100. We even did a fresh windows install, and tried all the previously mentioned settings again, still not solved. Its also really annoying for him since he streams and launching a game on stream does the same thing and its "RIP headphone users" in the chat lmao. There has to be some solution to this because i dont suffer from the problem, but i also dont have a blue snowball. Im sure he would like any solution that isnt "get another mic" Ive done massive amounts of googling for him, and none of the so called solutions worked or even really matched the exact issue. TLDR Over View Of Issue >Launch any game >Mic level auto adjusts to 100 >Static Explosion for anyone on his stream or in discord begins >No obvious options work ie "Do Nothing" and "Exclusive Control Off"

Hi! So as the title suggests, Steam detects my microphone (Blue Snowball iCE) but when in any game, or even with the "test microphone button" no signal is passed through. Other programs, like skype, detect it and get a signal just fine, only Steam is doing this. It even detects my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, but doesn't get any input with that either. List of things that I have tried: Unplugging and plugging back in the mic Restarting Steam Restarting my computer Using a different microphone Trying both an XLR microphone and my Guitar with the 2i2 Moving USB ports Unplugging my 2i2 and then trying Going back to the non-beta Steam client Then going back the the beta client after that didn't work Closing everything but Steam (including Skype) Making sure that all of the device setting are correct (not muted, levels high enough, etc.) Trying either side of the "Let applications take exclusive control" checkbox Reinstalling Steam Updating my motherboard's audio drivers Updating my motherboard BIOS Doing all of the windows updates that I regularly forget Flushing Steam configs Disabling and unplugging all other audio inputs Anybody have any ideas?

I just tought about posting this upgrade process for some lulz, sorry for my english. So like a lot of guys, I'm running an "anchient" "gaming" pc because I'm a student with no money. When Rainbow 6 Siege came out, it was the first game that really didnt run even acceptably on my setup so i needed to look into some options. My rig at the time was: ASUS P5Q Intel E8500 3.16->4.25ghz 4GB 800mhz->887mhz DDR2 AMD R270X 5xsome random HDDs 550w BeQuiet PSU Some time ago I upgraded that GPU since my friend had that lying around and I bought it for 50€. My previous GPUs were GTX260, GTX280, HD6850, GTX560Ti. I literally have paid 60€ for all of them combined since i have been able to recycle them to friends for some money. Now for the upgrades. Like a godsend my friend was helping his parents move and found his fathers old workstation PC and asked me if there is anything valuable there, to wich i kind of nodded and told him that its so old its probably trash. Turned out it was kind of a beast machine at the time and there was a QX6850 inside. You have my attention now. So obviously I asked him for the chip and he gave it to me (these are about 60€ on ebay I think?) That piece of s*it of a case is antec sonata II i think. Worst. Airfolw. Ever. (and no removable back panel so please excuse me for that rats nest.) Luckily 7 years ago when i bought this, i bought that Noctua cooler so i could overclock that E8500 and now the xtreme edition Guess wich one is the xtreme edition. After CPU upgrade i realized my storage configuration was total trash. a 500GB WD, 80GBMaxtor, 320GB samsung and WD 2½" laptop drives synced for backups and 160GB WD Raptor all old as hell and ripped from dead machines. So obviusly i ditched that Maxtor since it didnt even support AHCI, which is needed for my next upgrade. (credits for ghetto mounting storage?) Thats an Samsung 850EVO 250GB. Now I must say that converting an old windows install from HDD to SSD and changing the BIOS storage type from IDE to AHCI is a bit annoying process since windows does not support changing that after installation (the fix was easy when I found some forum thread for it) Now my peripherals are quite new since I broke my orange G15 by spilling coffee on it and I was so mad i went and bought this Razer Blackwidow, which is quite good, tough I think i should have bought the G710+ As for the mouse, I was using the Logitech MX518 which was great for its time and for the ergonomics but it was old and I got a deal on cyber monday for Mionix NAOS 8200 for like 40€. Headphones were a bit hilarious story since my mother vacuumed my old headset (Crative Fatal1ty :s) while I was visiting Luckily my friend had these AKG K272HD headphones with broken cable and gave them to me so i could easily fix it by cutting 15cm from the cable and soldering it back. Yesterday i got this old desklamp for my mic (Blue Snowball) stand Yes that coaster is an intel heatsink OC was necessary to achieve playable framerates so I overclocked the CPU and GPU and here are the current stable overclocks: CPU is overvolted, multiplier changed and FSB freq has been upped a bit to achieve the best overclock possible. Someone on the interwebs was saying that this chip would only go to 3600mhz by changing the multiplier but I found out that it's better to keep the multilplier a bit lower, upping the FSB and lowering the DDR2 strap a bit to achieve a bit higher stable OC. GPU is just trial and error. Someone told me that this asus R9 270X would go to 1200mhz but mine is not stable above 1152mhz. Memory would overclock a bit tough to 1500mhz. Temps were a bit high in this setup and this case has 1 fan slot so i had to make some haxoring to the case I added some cardboard to prevent air from just circulating around the fan. (The cardboard was appropriately from a salt box for all the saltiness) Also to the back to prevent dust Soo this is the setup I use to play R6Siege and stuff. If only I could find some 800mhz DDR2 for reasonable price I would be golden for a year or so. Hopefully someone finds this interesting and decides to upgrade their old computer since its not that hard or expensive. If not I just wasted too much time writing this

I am a complete noob regarding studio monitor setups and all, but I really love listening to high quality music. So, I am getting Yahmaha HS5's and a Focusrite 2i2 Solo, and possibly a Blue Snowball microphone. I am aware the Snowball isn't studio level, I just want it for gaming. My question is, what cables do I need to connect the Snowball to the Focusrite, the HS5's to the Focusrite and finaly the Focusrite to my computer? Links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So I was using my blue snowball recently brought (on Friday and it was working completely fine until today, it decided it was going to be recognized as Advanced audio device instead of previous Blue snowball USB microphone. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance -Dylan

So my USB ports don't power off after shut down. I've already done a little reaserch and there doesn't seem to be anyway to fix this. Now this isn't really much of a problem, but today I got a Blue Snowball and since it runs off USB the computer always keeps it powered. What I want to know is whether or not this is ok for the mic. If nobody has answer I can just unplug the mic everytime I power off, but that's pretty annoying

I am new to the recording scene and am trying to upgrade my audio setup for a new youtube channel (please don't judge). We've been using a video camera with boom mic (I know, but it's what we had) to record the audio of 4 individuals having conversations while sitting on a couch. I had purchased a Blue Snowball iCE to play with and am happy with the quality, but the one microphone needs to be rather close to the person speaking (within a few inches) and if placed on a coffee table in front of the couch, hardly catches any voices at all. Now I am faced with the prospect of either buying three more Snowballs and switching to a table format or finding another alternative to get good quality (comparable to the Snowball) audio of all four speakers. As such I have three scenarios to present but am uncertain of the proper equipment I would need for either. Scenario 1: Table format with four Snowballs. Given that the Snowball microphone is plugged into the PC by USB, it is my understanding that I would not be able to record from four of them at the same time. I assume I would need a mixer for this but can't seem to find one that would take four (let alone one) USB input. Are there any out there? Now, the mixer option would mix them down to one input for my PC meaning all voices would be on one track. Not ideal, but this seems the cheapest route to go. Scenario 2: Table format with alt. microphones. To record each speaker onto separate tracks I assume I would need a soundcard with multiple inputs. Mixing could then be done on the PC, correct?. What would be a good soundcard for this purpose and what microphones would you recommend that are comparable in price to the Snowball iCE (50$)? Scenario 3: Couch format Easiest to implement would be to retain my current format and have only one mic sitting on the coffee table in front of the couch to record all four speakers whose mouths would be about 4-5 feet from the microphone. Problem is, I don't know of any good microphones for this purpose. Any recommendations? So I think I know what I need but I have no idea of any good microphones, soundcards or mixers that I could use to make an educated decision about which route I should take. That's why I'm asking the best for recommendations! Thanks in advance.

So I recently bought the Blue Snowball mic through an ebay deal for only $45 which I was happy about. Compared to my old Astro mic which tended to fade in and out a lot it is exceptional. If you are on the edge about one I highly recommend it. Tell us what you think if you have one for yourself!

I'm looking to get a mic for voice chat in games, when playing with friends. I would really prefer that it be a USB mic because I'm using a Fiio e10 for audio and onboard sound has a lot of static. I have been looking at the Blue Snowball. My one concern is that the mic would sit about 2 feet away from me and in my reading there have been complaints about volume issues at a distance. I'm thinking the price to be around the $50 - $70 range (USD). Also, if it can be purchased at Newegg.com that would be awesome because I have a $25 off coupon I got through a promotion.(Not through Newegg Market Place)

Does anyone know which mic is better? The AT2020 from Audio-Technica or the Yeti from Blue Microphones? I know the Yeti is more popular in the YouTube community (along with the Snowball), but the AT2020 is very popular as well in terms of online sales and reviews, and I've seen some YouTubers starting to use it more as well. Have any of you used these mics? Anyone know which one is better from some reviews you can show me? Etc?
