Hi. I have recently got Panasonic KX-TU160 for my father: (unboxing video) while there is an option for changing the ringtone with "Select from file" (MP3 files work): there is no such option for changing the SMS/Message sound. There is only a fixed number (5) of tones to choose from: these tones are kind of long and disturbing, especially when my father does not care about messages. I would like to set it to something short or even silent, but I have not found a way of doing that. There is only one volume setting for both Calls and Messages, so I cannot set them separately. It has a USB-C connection and I can access the phone file system from a PC. I could not find the files that are Tones there. Does anyone know how I can hack it so I could set one of the Tones to empty one or add my own or something similar? Thanks!

Hi everyone, My dad just got a new phone (Galaxy S23), and had everything cloned off his old Samsung so he wouldn't have to deal with setup. But I think because of that, the folder that the messages app pulls from by default for sending photos, which is the "Recent" folder in the Samsumg gallery, is all out of order. Impossible to find anything. I know he can simply press "folders" and go find the "Camera" folder (or Google Photos) which still has all his photos in order, but it only allows you to select one photo to send at a time. He's often sending 10+ at once over text for work so that's extremely annoying. Is there a way to change the default folder for sending photos over text? Or to select multiple photos at once if he has to navigate to the right folder? Thanks!

I've been having this issue recently where once in a while on my Nexus 6 I won't be able to send any SMS Messages or receive them. I am using Textra instead of the default messenger app. I have tried rebooting my phone, turning service on and off but it did not work. This happens to only one of the contacts but none of the other ones. I was wondering if any body else has this issue and if any of you have a solution for this. Thank you Edit: I should have mentioned that I am in Canada and I have a Plan with Telus

Ok so here is the situation. the majority of the time i am at my computer and doing things i dont want to have to keep flipping from my phone to my computer since some of the people i talk to are very very chatty. so i started looking into SMS applications for my PC that i could link to my phone and message from my PC. i ran into mightytext but it has a text message limit per month and wants you to pay an exorbitant amount for more so i am looking to switch. i have heard of some but i wanted to throw a line out and have you guys suggest some for me. thank you for all of your help.

So I know that if someone sends me a SMS when my phone is off, it doesn't get delivered until i turn it on. Is that how emails work too? Or if the server running my email is down, will they just fail to send it and get a error? Thanks.

Have you ever wanted to be able to send and receive texts on your windows 10 PC when you have an iPhone? Well I found a way! all you must do is go to; https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/alienware-mobile-connect/9pmxq13q3lgp?activetab=pivot:overviewtab make sure your signed in, add the app to cart, and checkout. Then open the windows 10 app store app, make sure your signed in, click the 3 dots icon to the right of you account picture, go to library, and install the app. Then follow the "normal" setup, including the IOS app side, all seams to work including there "dell only driver for mobile connect". Its proof that its not exclusive hardware as I'm running it on an ASUS MB, nothing dell in the system in fact.... why they don't just make this a normal app is beyond me but i found a loop hole and I'm sharing it with you all

A friend mentioned to me that every time they restarted their phone, they see a text appear from number they have blocked. The person they blocked caused them a lot of stress in the past and they say it makes them upset every time they see it. Is there a way to prevent these texts from popping up? They have a standard Galaxy S10 and use Samsung Messages. It would be nice if there was a way to prevent this from happening with future texts as well as this person has been known to try and reach out every once in a while.

Hey guys. Someone i know recently got scammed a considerable amount of money through internet banking and the way that it all occurred was rather unusual and wanted to get the opinion of those of you who may be more familiar with this field. So a little background; In my country, all major banks have online banking and its use is pretty much universal. To access your bank account theres usually a combination pin, biometrics, a SMS one time pin (OTP) and a token. Although not all authentication methods may be used at all times depending on the activity, at minimum you would need 2 ( Usually biometrics with a SMS OTP). So how the scam occurred was when they received a SMS stating that there was suspicious activity on the account and that it was blocked for security. It also provides a number to contact to 'unblock' the account, of which they called without checking the authenticity of the number via online means. The key thing is that this scam SMS was received in the same SMS thread as the genuine bank (How i know this is genuine is because there were existing expired OTP from the bank in that same thread from previous online banking. Also during the call, the scammer did attempt an action which required an OTP which came in the same thread, after the scam message) My question is, disregarding the mistakes which lead to the eventual hacking, is it possible for a hacker to spoof a SMS to pose as someone else (In this case, posing as the bank)? The problem is that when we receive these messages, we are unable to see the actual number of the sender, rather we only see the bank name. Would this have had to be a breach on the banks side, or something more sophisticated for a phone to think that the scam message was from bank?

I've been trying to get my SMS text messages through Action Center on Windows 10. I've got it to work, but it requires https://messages.android.com/ to be open in Chrome at all times. Is there any way that I can set this up to give me notifications even when Google Chrome is closed. I do have "Continue Running apps when Google Chrome is closed" on, but it doesn't seem to be working. Thanks for any help that can be offered!

So I've made a big upgrade from an iPhone 5s to a OnePlus 6 (had the iPhone for 4 years), and so far I'm loving it. But I can't for the life of me find a good, free program to transfer my texts over. The best thing I've found is iSMS2droid, which was hit or miss as to which messages it actually transferred. I could understand problems with transferring iMessages, I'm not sure it got any of those, but there are some friends that have only had Androids that their texts are completely missing, or my half of the conversations are often gone. And then sometimes large swaths of time will be skipped. My mom has always used iPhones, and it grabbed some messages pre-2017, but nothing past that. Is this a taboo subject that just isn't allowed to be discussed? Even on this announcement forum: https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/introducing-the-oneplus-switch.738493/ only one person asks about it, and he never gets a valid response. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hiya Everyone. I assume this is the correct place to post this. I have a oneplus 5 and recently got give the option to get a work phone. Rather than carrying around two phones, I decided to look into the dual sim option within the phone. However after a bit of a play around, even though multiple sms apps support dual sim, I couldnt find one which does dual inbox. I dont want to have my personal texts and work texts in the same inbox as it just creates too much clutter. Rather than downloading every app one at a time, does anyone know of a app that supports dual sim & dual inbox? Thanks

Currently using a Samsung GS8+. I recently switched from Verizon's default messaging app Message+ (which was meh) to Google's own Android Messages. I like the look and feel of Android Messages way better. it looks cleaner, newer, and has a really great web client for texting from a web browser. The problem that I've been having though is that the app is literally constantly crashing. In the last 4 days alone, the app has crashed 39 times. The crashes are minor. When the option to "wait" is selected usually it recovers, and when I "Close app" it automatically relaunches fairly quickly. This was only really a minor annoyance until recently, when all of a sudden the app will report that messages have been unsent even when they have, and people I text are telling me that they're getting duplicate texts. So far I've tried uninstalling and re installing, wiping the app cache, wiping the app data, starting the device in safe mode, disabling carrier messaging apps, even deleting the cache partition. The only thing that worked was deleting the cache partition but then I was added to a group MMS and it crashed almost immediately. I would like to avoid going back to the Verizon app if possible so I want to make sure that I do anything I can to get it to work. Google doesn't provide support for the app, Samsung told me to just give up and use their default app. I'm stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

So I'm trying to sign up for this website but it requires verification via a 4digit code that is suppose to be sent to you in a txt msg (SMS). Now I'm at wits end trying to get this to work. I have steam and blizzard set up with SMS notification and am getting those but for some reason I'm not getting these certain ones. This lead me to believe that it is an issue on their end but trying a few of those online SMS sender websites I'm not getting any of those either... My phone is a galaxy S5 on the rogers network, I also tried my GF phone which is a S8 on the telus network and am getting the same results on both phones/networks... I can send a receive messages from the two phones and get SMS alerts from my steam and blizzard accounts but using any online webservice or requesting a code through the website I get nothing. Their online help was useless and just recommend me trying a different browser and device which I've already covered... I know other canadians on their so don't think its a region issue. Any thoughts?

Evening Folks, My dad accidentally deleted every message conversation Samsung Galaxy A3. I am trying to get one specific conversation on the phone for him which included details he needs for work. Is there any free software that I can use to do this? Giving that it is only one conversation I want to recover for him I don't want to have to pay to upgrade the trial version of Dr. Fone which has found the message conversation I am looking for but in order to get the entire texts I have to register and $40 is a bit steep for one conversation. Please refrain from Piracy suggestions in answers as I don't want this thread removed when I could potentially get a solution. Many Thanks, G

My phone (a Samsung S7) is no longer receiving SMS. I am receiving MMS and I could send SMS but I'm just not receiving. When I was setting myself with Sprint the rep talked to me about the insurance as a hardware failure and not a software or network failure. This feels like a Network failure to me since everything else is working. This problem has been happening for over a week now. I have done the following to try and fix this (with a Sprint rep on the line of a different phone) - Profile update - PRL update - All "Power Cycle options" including factory - The ##72786# - I got a new SIM Card - Reset to Factory Defaults (Complete cleaning) Does anyone know what could be causing this? They said the Verizon towers in my area are updating but my wife who has the exact same phone is functioning perfectly. What can be done?

I wrote this little article talking about Linus being hacked through the insecurity of Bell Canada, allowing his phone number to be compromised and therefore accounts compromised. I talked about the implications on it when it comes to authy and etc. Opinions? "Allowing SMS password recovery on your applications and etc has now become a horrible means of password recovery. " "For example: Authy, an alternative to Google Authenticator, allows you to sync your keys for mobile authentication “encrypted” through their website. A weak password, and your cell phone number is all it takes for ALL of your authentication to be vulnerable. " https://thelasttechie.com/2016/07/14/sms-password-recovery-nopls/

How do I configure Android so that when I receive a text message, only the person's name shows, NOT the message contents? "Show all content" shows both message & contact name, and "Dont show sensitive content" shows neither. I recently switched from iOS, and there was an option to have the person's name, but not the message. Device: Non-rooted Nexus 6 with N beta

Short Message Service (SMS), more colloquially known as ‘text,’ is a protocol used for sending short messages over mobile networks. The first SMS was sent in 1992; By 2010, SMS was the most widely used data application, adopted by 80 percent of mobile subscribers. Then, came the rise of the smartphone. Smartphones paved the way for consumers to communicate through a variety of outlets – from email and instant messaging to over-the-top content messaging apps. However, despite the growth in other communication channels, SMS is still widely in use and remains one of the primary channels of communication. Why? Here are four crucial reasons. SMS is the most effective way to reach users, with a 90 percent read rate in minutes When it comes to timeliness of delivery, SMS maintains the highest engagement rate in comparison to emails and OTT apps. SMS is available as long as you have a mobile phone and service plan. This makes its global reach soar as there are no pre-existing connections required, such as accepting friend requests or requiring two parties to download the same app. The lower barriers to communication let users receive messages quickly, making it ideal for sending short, time-sensitive content. SMS is a one- size- fits- all solution which makes anybody (with a mobile number) reachable The technology for sending and receiving SMS is not reliant on high speed internet, essentially making anyone in modern society reachable. Over-the-top messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Viber and WeChat function only while connected to the Web. Different apps also have require different hardware and software compatibilities, weeding out users with feature phones or smartphones that the OTT app doesn’t support. For instance, not all OTT messaging apps are available on Firefox OS, Windows, Blackberry or legacy versions of iOS and Android. In contrast, a user does not need to be connected to the Web or have membership to the same app to receive an SMS. Disruptions in the A2P sector make a global telecom network more accessible SMS can be classified into person-to-person (P2P) SMS, where two mobile subscribers exchange messages. Application-to-person (A2P) SMS, on the other hand, allows an app to deliver messages to a mobile subscriber. Typical use cases for A2P SMS include payment confirmations, appointment reminders, account updates from banks, mobile ticketing, flight updates, etc. The issue with traditional A2P SMS is that the process is clunky and can be expensive for companies to deploy. Traditional methods require a company to liaise with a variety of middlemen – such as SMS aggregators, gateway providers, marketers and resellers – before gaining access to the SMS inventory of the various network operators. Today, a new breed of cloud communication platforms utilizes easily-deployable technologies to increase quality of message deliverability. They also combine a pay-per-use cost model of cloud services with simple telephony Application Program Interface (API) tools to make it easy for developers to integrate into their applications while maintaining low operational cost. In effect, this bypasses the need for the middlemen. In accessing the global telecom network directly, companies gain faster delivery times and better reliability of service. This makes A2P SMS accessible to more companies – especially startups – and application developers who were previously limited by lack of human and financial resources required by the traditional route. Growth of two factor authentication and security via SMS With the proliferation of mobile devices, more personal data are transferred over the Web than ever before. To add a layer of security, two-factor authentication has become the go-to method for companies to protect its users. Using SMS as an authentication method has been rising in popularity, as a user almost always has a mobile device on them at any given time. The cost of sending an SMS is also very low, while its ease over voice call for 2FA makes SMS more ideal for today’s fast-paced society. Companies using SMS as a step in two-factor authentication (if activated) include Google, Apple, Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox, PayPal and LinkedIn. Today, SMS may be viewed as antiquated technology – but the reality is it that SMS plays a key role in connecting most modern technologies. From its high user engagement rate and 2FA benefits, to its disruption in the A2P sector, we won’t see SMS disappear anytime soon. I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the problem is that all of a sudden it has began receiving the same message repeatly and it I very annoying. Does anyone know the reason for this or fix? Its a pretty new sim card and it never happened before so I don't think its that and the signal where I am is excellent so I don't know what it could be.
