Finally got my LTT Northern Lights Desk Pad from lttstore.com™, after two long layovers in Vancouver and California. I ordered it on april 21, shipped on april 28, and received it in the Netherlands on may 25. I LOVE the design, the padding pressure and the edges look very firm to me so far. As well as the anti-slipperiness, which also comes with a problem... I'm guessing at least it is the rubbery back. There is a very, and I mean very, strong smell coming from the bottom of the Desk Pad. I must say that I'm in a room with stale air and the door wide open. There is no draft however, so the smell tends to stay around. But the first day this smell almost made me gag. Is anyone experiencing similar issues? And if anyone might know any quick methods of get rid of the smell then that would be very welcome.

Hey guys! Just wanted to ouch base here and get any suggestions for my issue. So I just upgraded to a ROG THOR P2 1000w PSU and a Gigabyte RTX 4090 OC, and I was just playing Cyberpunk with everything cranked to maximum. And I noticed that my case fans began to pump out an insane level of heat, and for a moment I noticed a brief burning-plastic smell. I immediately quit the game, and the heat and smell began dissipated almost immediately. But now I'm worried. I haven't yet checked the CPU or GPU temps while under load, but I'll get MSI afterburner and do so as soon as I'm done writing this initial post. Then I'll reply with an update. I don't think it's the 16 pin high power connector. I know that has been a big issue recently, but I put that in fully seated and everything. I'll double check it though.

Hey, so I built my first ever gaming pc 2 weeks ago and everything is great so far loving the performance I get and everything is perfect but there is one issue my pc smells like something is burning like it's not straight up burnt but it smells like melting plastic or something like that. Ive tried to research online but everything that came up was the psu but I recently figured out it is my cpu cooler. I'm not sure if this is normal for it to smell. When the pc is under heavy workload like gaming my pc gets hot on top (where the cpu cooler is) and it smells but when my pc is idle or just not on heavy workload the smell if gone or there isn't smell. Is there any tips on how to stop the awful smell. My parents keep complaining it stinks and I want to get rid of the smell or they'll make me get rid of the pc. My pc specs Rtx 4080 13th gen intel core i9 13900k Case: cooler master mini itx case nr200p Cpu cooler: cooler master 280mm aio cpu cooler (came with the case) Psu: sff 850 watt 80 plus gold cooler matsr psu (also came with the case)

The laptop that I’ve had for about 8 months emits a very electronic smell. The smell comes from the whole laptop but it is very noticable when I smell over the keyboard. It don’t think it’s a plastic like smell but very electronic like. I’m worried that kind of smell is dangerous for health and if I should buy a new laptop. The charger smells odd when it gets really warm as well. It’s a HP premium laptop so it’s odd it smells like that. The MacBook Pro I have doesn’t smell like that at all. Is it dangerous and should I get a new Laptop from another brand, or is it just my unit?

Hello LTT Forum, first Post here out of necessity. I've had my PC for about a year now, and today my AIO started acting weird. It refuses to spin correctly, makes a weird clacking noise and my PC smells burnt. The smell is really strong too, but so smoke anywhere and no obvious damage on any component. I added a vid of my AIO during the startup sequence. YouTube Link because the file was too large: https://youtube.com/shorts/0tBGxr2Lw1E?feature=share

Hi all!I woken up with my pc turned off, it was turned on idle while I went to sleep as I don't turn it off over night. When I tried to turn it on, it won't boot up. I tried to unplug the power cord and tried it again to be greeted with a single click sound from the psu.I started taking it apart and clean it as it been a while, but when I tried to boot it up it still giving me same click noise from the psu. So I decided to test each component one by one, started by removing the GPU, and volva it starting to boot! So the gpu the issue? Which what I was thinking until I start smelling faint smell of burning electric coming from the psu.The psu also refuse to boot if I try to attach this particular white head I don't know what it call but I will include a picture below. Also the pictures of this psu that came with the computer prebuilt. I don't know what brand is it and it seem to be shaped to use with this computer only. But yeah mainly if I plug in gpu = no boot, just clickSame with plug in the white head, with or without gpuAnd burning smell if I detach both to let it boot.My specs areNvidia gtx 780Intel i7 4770k cpuX2 croisar 8gb ram120gb intel ssd1tb western digital hd500w 80 gold plus psu idk what brand Nzxt kraken x40 liquid cooling for the cpuMSI 87I motherboard The pc is made by ibuypower Revolt R770To be honest I regret the purchas because of the tiny cramped built of the case and lack of space for expansion. I would try to see if this is a opportunity to replace the case and others thing to make it a regular sized pc.But first I want to find out which is the faulty part. My psu or gpu or the motherboard? And what is to replace and buy. I don't have a lot of money due to recent cancer treatment but as long as it under $200 or so.Please help! I'd love to also get some recommendation on part to replace such as case and psu. Thank you all very much in advance!! I'd be going to fry's electronics later but I'm not sure what to even do, considering idk if they sell these shuttle shaped psu or I'd I need to replace the case too for a proper psu. So I bought a computer off craigslist and when I opened it up everything smelled really bad, did not smell like burning rubber or cigarette or any other smoking product it was just a really dirty smell. I spent a long time trying to figure out what the source of the smell was and eventually found out it was the AIO Cooler. Thinking it was the radiator, I submerged the rad in warm soapy water to get rid of the stench and let it dry overnight. The next day to me disappointment I could still smell the awful odor, but not from the rad, I smelled it coming from the tubing. So at this point I am wondering how I would go about getting rid of the odor on the tubing. Any tips would be helpful, thanks.

There's a slightly plastic burning smell coming from my new PSU. It's not that strong. I can only smell it if I put my nose RIGHT NEXT to the PSU. I feel like the smell's not as strong as it was earlier today( I just got it today).

I would like to share a weird issue I have with my PC. Don't know which category this fits in so sorry if it's in the wrong place.. I'll try to describe the problem as detailed as possible to finally find a solution. I've built a new PC almost 2 Years ago, since that time it's been running fine without any problems. No BSOD, no shutdowns, no hangs nothing whatsoever. Despite that like 6-7 months ago I started to notice a somewhat odd smell which is coming from the back of the PC where the exhaust fan is. I would describe the smell as someone was melting some plastic, the smell is not very intense but it's definitely there. It's noticeable when the PC is under load, for example when running a game and whole system builds some heat. At that time if I go and smell the area in the back of the case where the exhaust fan is I can clearly notice the smell which is coming out with some hot air being pushed by the fan. I have decided to check what's going on and opened the case to see if something was looking burned. I have found nothing out of the ordinary, everything seemed absolutely fine. Then I put my PC under load with the case open to try to find the smell, but it was very hard to trace it, i THINK it's coming from somewhere on the motherboard ut no real clue where exactly.. It's definitely not from the PSU or the GPU. Like I said before it's coming out with the hot air where the exhaust fan is in the back. There it is the most noticeable. I have checked my temperatures and they are perfect under load: CPU ~55C, GPU 70-72C, MB & HDD temps also low. I really don't understand where the smell is coming from, as I said before everything has been working fine since I noticed that smell. Also after visual inspection everything seems OK. Could anyone think of an idea what could this be? Because I'm clueless atm.. Is may sound really ironic, but my stinkiest clothes are the ones that are the most breathable. So basically, wearing the average joe clothes, nothing that's built for sports is fine, but I have these two under armor sports shirts that REEK like hell. I only wear them once a week and I wash the laundry once a week. I also have this big problem with pants. The only pants that doesn't smell even after it has been taken out of the wash is my average joe white cargo pants. What could I do to fix this? All of my summer shorts start to reek after 10 minutes of them on, even though I'm just eating my breakfast. I don't sweat profusely and in fact, all of my summer shorts are "sports shorts", i.e. From brands like puma and Nike.

This is a weird question for the community but I'm curious to hear what everyone has to say. Fire up your computer and put it under load. Smell your PSU, what does it smell like? Does it just get hot or does it have a distinctive smell at all? I have a 3 week old Seasonic SSR650W-PX that works beautifully. However my case is extremely small and wires are crammed on top of it (see pics). The PSU DOES have a vent where it can suck in cool air. I sit about a foot or 2 away from my case and don't smell a thing but if I lean into the PSU vent hole (see case pic), I can smell like a hot metal/hot computery smell. It's hard to describe. Is this normal?

Hi, I was playing Civ 5 when suddenly my PSU made a loud bang. The PC turned off and the psu started to smell burned, the PC still booted to BIOS after that but I forced shutdown because of the smell. I'm afraid to turn it back on since it might destroy my other components. Im not sure if it was just the surge protection or if it just blew up. Is it safe to boot up or should I get another PSU just in case?

Okay, so here's whats going on, I got my new computer all set up and everything, I plug everything in and turn it on, everything seems to be running fine but then I noticed an odd smell, couldn't really tell if it was a chemically or burning plastic smell but i panicked and turned it off, didn't get to see if it posted or not... everything I am reading online is saying its just the new chemical smell but just curious what everyone here thinks? Might be able to tell you if it posts or not tomorrow but to worried to start it up without being on the phone with MSI (motherboard manufacturer). I was playing TF2 with my slow, crap laptop which can barely run the game at 20fps and suddenly I started to smell that something is burning. The smell was like a mix of candles and dust and I got really scared and was almost sure that my laptop was burning. I shut the laptop off and looked at the bottom but no smoke or anything was there. I started googling (on my phone) how to deal with possible fire in my laptop. Then I went and asked my mom that can she smell something burning... and then she said: Yes I do. I just "shut down the candle" (I don't know how to say it. Get the fire off the candle... ) and I was like "oh, really?" So yeah... I'm not using my laptop a few hours from now...

Hello Everyone, I went to plug a usb flash drive on the front panel of my newly built computer and windows popped up saying that the front IO crashed from a power surge! So I unplugged the drive and plugged it in again and the computer immediately shut down. I tried to power it back on and the lights turned on and a terrible terrible smell came from my case... LOL! How fast I unplugged that computer Well I did I unplugged it and ripped out all the hdmi and usb's plugged in and set it on the table Took off both of the side panels and smelled for the origin of the smell... It seemed to be coming from the prossessor with the NZXT Kraken x61 on top that had been blinking red on and off... I did not check the PSU at this time but I did 10 minutes later and It did smelled of burning just not as strong. I have narrowed it down to either a pump malfunction on the kraken or just a crappy PSU ;. Here are my computer components: CPU - Intel Core i7-4790K CPU Cooler - NZXT Kraken X61 Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD7 TH ATX LGA1150 Memory - Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Storage - Samsung 850 Pro Series 256GB SSD Power Supply - EVGA SuperNOVA 850 GS Power Supply Also... I purchased the PSU from Newegg and same goes for the CPU Cooler so to replace the part do I contact EVGA, NZXT, or just Newegg? Thanks, Lee Ewing

I am going to ask possibly one of the weirdest tech questions ever, but I need to make sure it's not me. So here it goes, I have a logictech G400 mouse, it's ok, I would like to get something better at some point. But over the last few days I have noticed something kinda odd. First, I am a very clean person, I wash my hands all the time after doing certain tasks. But I have noticed that when I am in long gaming sessions/general use of my computer, my right hand will sweat and smell from using the mouse over long periods. The mouse materiel is is mostly plastic, but does have some rubber grips on either side, I do clean my mouse on a as needed bases. But this issue has only just come up. My hands are warm like a normal person would be, but I just find it odd that my mouse is making this very odd, and stupid issue arise. Is this normal? Is it what the mouse is made of that this is happening? Should I go out and get a better mouse that's made differently? Again I know this seems like a stupid and weird question, but it's really getting on my nerves and I am super annoyed. The logictech G400 mouse is good as a whole, although as my game library expends, the amount of buttons is very slime, only two special buttons. I've been wanting to get a Razer mouse since I love the new keyboard I got from them recently. Please help me here. Thanks in advance. Josh_Grid21

So lets right out front admit it. I game on a mac. I don't game 24/7, I also do work on it so its not that bad. Hey, at least I dual booted it with windows Now don't go spamming me about this, because thats not what this is about. I needed portability with a good weight, and a good performance standpoint. My laptop is a late 2014 15" Macbook pro with retina display. This behemoth packs a pretty serious punch for a laptop, not to mention its apple. I can power two external displays, but havent gotten a chance to try it with 3, but i've heard it can be done, and im sure a GTX 750M can do it easily. I use a logitech G700S for my mouse, and thats what this comes down to. I am considering migrating to a Mad Catz Rat Pro X when it is in-stores, but I'll have to see. I use my computer every day (unless there is a special event or something) and almost every day I game. TF2, Goat simulator (all basic stuff, but this is a brand new laptop, so now I have more breathing room to try better games) After gaming, there is a weird smell on my hands. It almost smells of propane or a gas, and cheese. Its weird. Now don't go saying what a lot of people think it might be, trust me i've considered it and ruled it out. Just don't. Is it the mouse? The keyboard? Im considering getting a Corsair K70 RGB with MX blues, so that may be a solution... Does anybody else have this issue? My hands generally don't sweat that much but its a possibility. I guess you never know (^ _ ^)

Hi everyone, It’s been about a month since I built my first pc and I’ve almost lost all hope on how I can fix my current issue, first of all the specs… NZXT H440 Case Intel i7 4790k 4ghz 16gb 2133mhz Corsair Vengeance ram MSI Twin Frozr Gaming 780 Ti Corsair H100i liquid cpu cooler 3 x Noctua SP120 front intake 2 x Corsair SP120 red led top exhaust 1 x Corsair AF140 red led rear exhaust EVGA SupaNova G2 850watt PSU Now the issue, when I game, especially with vsync off at high frame rates my case slowly starts to smell like an oven, I am literally sitting there smelling lots of warm air, this is obviously down to the graphics card heating up when I game and hot air exhausting out of the case, but when I check my gpu temps they rarely go over 70c. Now I do plan to use vysnc most of the time on my 60hz monitor which does help a great deal but at some point I want to get a 2nd 140hz monitor which means I’m screwed. Yesterday I actually tried switching the fans in the roof to intakes to see if it helped and I went out for about 5 hours with Sims 3 running with vysnc off, when I came back and opened my door…wow..i just got this huge draft of warm air and my gpu was loud, the temps again though were about 70c. When I play with vsync on it basically solves my problem, lower temps, less smell and less noise but I don’t want to be restricted like that. Some things that helped but only slightly…I moved my case out of the computer table it’s in (which still has space around the back and side) and I turned every fan in the case to max and that helped but as you can imagine It was loud and it only helped slightly without turning the fans up. Now I know putting the fans higher (but not max) maybe would help but I had already found what I thought was a nice happy medium between the case running cool/quiet and the gpu fan is on auto. So I’m looking for some advice, maybe you have the H440 and can tell me how yours performs? I refuse to believe that everyone with a H440 is experiencing my problem and I imagine people have managed to achieve quietness without encountering my problem, it’s just so very annoying, I’ve never encountered this problem before and this is the reason I can’t enjoy my first build and I’m close to launching it out of my bedroom window, so any help would be most appreciated. PS – The graphics card doesn’t have a back plate and there is a barcode sticker on the back of the card, it’s a long shot but could the smell be caused by the heat cooking the sticker?

Just a random thought that occured to me, but what do you guys smell like? This is a really weird question I know, but it's something that I thought. I personally (this is according to my family and my other half) smell like olive oil and Lynx (Axe.) What about you guys?

Like everytime i bought a new hardware, the smell is like ...i dunno i got addicted to it. sadly the smell vanishes from time to time

So i bought a Surface Pro 4 for just over a month ago. I was very happy with it, and i still am today.....kind of. So there i was, in my bed, watching YouTube. Out of nowhere, i thought, wow, this really is a beautiful device (i thought). I decided to admire it for a few seconds, but the i noticed the smell. You know, the smell. The lithium smell. The smell of a punctured battery. The sweet smell. Iv'e actually smashed and punctured some lithium batteries before (outside), and it smells exactly the same. I'm kind of worried, as i'm about to go to bed, and i don't really know what to do. Any advice?
