Ive been wanting to get a watch, especially for fitness tracking, and ive found possible the 2 contenders, the PineTime and the Bangle.js 2. Ive done some reasearch but im not sure what the best option for me is. The price doesnt really matter. The bangle.js 2 only has 176x176 3 bit colour screen, which even the bangle.js 1 had 240x240 16bit and so does the pinetime. Although im not too bothered about the screen (tho a better screen would've been nice) One of the selling points of bangle.js is the ability to install and make your own apps using javascript. This is appealing because it seems on the pine watch you have to either install another os from the defualt one or bake apps into the firm ware and then install that firmware? https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=14015 Overall my main concern is privacy, especially with GPS location. The pine time doesn't have a GPS but i would like one to use maps/location. My secondary concern is using it as a fitness tracker as i plan to go the the gym after i go back to uni in late-ish september. Does anyone have both and could help me decide? What are the differences? Do you prefer one over the other? Edit: Also sorry if this is in the wrong category but theres no 'Watch' or Wearables category

I have been using a Pebble Time smartwatch since 2017 and it is still to this day the ONLY perfect wearable imo. The only time it leaves my wrist is to charge it. I don't care about fitness tracking pretty much at all but every wearable is centered on this anyway, and I don't even want to have to take it off to shower. I need something that has: -long battery life -text by voice reply capability -water resistance Does anyone have any idea of something that could possibly be a replacement, or am I going to have to wear my Pebble till it completely dies lol?

A look back at the gadgets and gizmos I've had over the years
Mira Yurizaki posted a blog entry in Yurizaki's Tech Ramblings
I usually try to avoid buying the latest and greatest technological thing that's "in". Like when smart watches were all the rage last year, I avoided them. When the iPad came out, I saw it more as a novelty. I avoided wireless things, since I didn't want to deal with charging them up and such. But all that's changed, since now I've owned these kinds of products (well, except the iPad). So here are my thoughts about the gadgets I've purchased over the years, and whether or not they're still important to me now or not. Since there's a broad range of "gadgets" I can cover, I'm going to limit this to either portable devices or small knick knacks (game systems not included because I'm a gamer so of course I have them :D). 1. Laptop I got my first laptop in 2008, a Dell Inspiron 15 whatever number that was. I purchased it for school since I somehow got a grant in the middle of the semester so 1. I had nothing else to buy for the semester and 2. it's a school grant, why not get a laptop? It was that year I did discover the joy of having a portable computer to lug around winter and summer break. Two years later I passed it on to my dad and replaced it with one from ASUS that I'd say is one of the first "ultrabooks", since it was smaller (13") and lasted a ridiculously long time (12 hours). The next one after that was a Dell XPS 15z, which I thought was a great laptop, but it died two years later. I lulled around for a few months without a laptop since I didn't really need one at the time... until I decided to get a gaming laptop, an ASUS one. At first it was nice to have a gaming computer to take around with me since my desktop at the time was a pretty large beast that was awkward to carry. Then, I decided to sell it and get a Dell XPS 13, which at first I enjoyed, but I really wanted gaming performance and then finally settled down to my current one, a Dell Inspiron 15 7559 (I sold the XPS 13). So after all this, I'm finding that my sweet spot size is 15". The gaming laptop was starting to be come inconveniently large. 13" is too small. And since I'm still a gamer, I want something that has graphical chops to it. It doesn't have to be amazing, but anything's better than Intel's iGPUs. 2. Smartphone My first smartphone was the original Motorola Droid back in 2010. And I still have a smartphone. So I think there's a no brainer about the impact this device had on me. The first feature that smartphones struck out at me that I found useful was Google Maps and navigation. Funnily enough, when I got the Droid, I was about 6 months in my first car too, so it was pretty handy to have that feature. Eventually being able to surf the internet and use apps caught on. The Droid was replaced with an LG Spectrum, then a Motorola Moto X, and now an LG G4. Since I seem to have this Motorola-LG-Motorola-LG pattern (actually, the phone I had before the Droid was an LG phone), chances are my next phone's going to be a Motorola one :3 My usage hasn't really expanded much from how I used smartphones from the start. I don't watch YouTube all that much. I don't stream from internet radios. In fact, I like to not use my phone as much as possible... except if I'm standing around then I'll probably poke on the internet and Skype. However my phone has become my camera, so that's been my biggest desire when looking at phones. I haven't really been worried about the size, but I do like 5" phones. 3. A Camera I did buy a digital camera back in 2011 or so, probably the equivalent of a Canon P&S, but with an optical zoom. It used AA batteries which I thought was a useful feature (I bought rechargables for them). It also didn't get much use. I found my phone more than adequate for the task, even if it took a long time for the quality to catch up. 4. Tablet The first tablet I purchased was an ASUS Transformer Infinity (TF700T) back in 2012. When my XPS 15z kicked the bucket, I started using this as a sort of replacement, but then I soon realized Android has its problems. So slowly it started losing its use and I eventually sold it in 2014. However in that year I decided on another tablet, an ASUS T100, the Windows based tablet. This was during the time I had a gaming laptop, so it was to work as a more portable computer if I wanted it than the laptop. It did see quite a bit of use at first, but it lost its purpose once I got the XPS 13 and I sold it last year. But I wasn't quite ready to toss the hat in for tablets. I purchased one more earlier this year: an NVIDIA Shield K1. And I think this cemented what I like about a tablet. It's 8" is nice to hold and it's still workable. I use it mostly for a watching movies, either from YouTube or what's on my media server. It's actually getting a lot more use than the other tablets I have. 5. Raspberry Pi/STM32L Discovery ("project" boards) I bought a RasPi in 2013 as a curiosity. I tinkered with it for maybe a few days but that was it. I wanted something like a small Linux machine. The most use it got was later that year when I was working as a contractor and the system on a board we were using pooped out. So I brought in the RasPi as a replacement. Not only were we back on track within a day, the fact that it worked as well if not better for $30 instead of the $150 the project board cost saved the thing we were working on. I also bought an STM32L which is a more basic version of RasPi. It's more like a semi-advanced Arduino. It was for a silly project that I wanted to work on that lasted about a month before I got bored of it. Both boards haven't received much love for at least a year. I'm probably going to keep the RasPi but at work and I'm going to toss the STM32L. Project boards like these probably aren't my thing. 6. Smart Watch Well, something smart watch like... I bought a Fitbit Blaze a couple of months ago since I was looking at getting a fitness tracker for a while. Part of me felt like I was going to use it for a month, then go "eh, whatever" and not care about it. Well, I'm still wearing it and one of the things I love about it versus an actual smart watch is it lasts a long time. I clocked in at 5 and a half days before plugging it in, but it didn't actually die, it was just running on fumes. -
I own a Fitbit Versa 2 and around St Patrick's day, 2022 I updated the device from the Fitbit app as it was suggesting there was a new version. A few days following the update I noticed my sleeping data wasn't being tracked and that my heart rate was constantly reading 77 and not changing. I then tried power cycling the device and eventually resetting to factory defaults, and every suggestion I could find from googling the issue and looking at people who were reporting similar issues but nothing worked and now the heart rate is just reading nothing. During this i also noticed that I wasn't the only one having this issue, I have seen dozens of posts with usually a more then 3 people saying they also had their versa 2 devices heart rate function stop working after the most recent update, and some people had their devices brick entirely after updating not allowing the device to go beyond the initial startup logo. Along with the posts of people having the same issue being high in number, so were the number of people very angry as Fitbit was just responding with generic suggestions like "Go to settings and turn on the heartbeat function", and "try this specific steps to restart or reset the device". Fitbit has a 1 year warranty for its products except in Europe where 2 years is the requirement by law, and given that the Versa 2 launched in the Summer of 2019 and its successor arrived a year later in the Summer of 2020 i think it's fair to say that majority of Versa 2 holders are outside their warranty period. I don't really have a problem with the 1 year warranty, but from every person I've seen post about this issue and myself included all Fitbit had to say in response was "Did you try restarting it?", then after that they go right to warranty where I would bet that majority of people are outside their 1 year and they then say they can't cover it under warranty and give a code for 35% off a Fitbit device on their store. I've asked if they have any plans to attempt a fix by rolling out a new update but I haven't heard back on this yet. I had the device for 2.5 years without any issue and following that update the main feature of the device no longer works. I don't know if this is planned obsolescence or mere incompetence but either one is disgraceful. I would recommend staying away from Fitbit products if you care about e-waste or having a company brick your device and then claim "We can't do anything to fix this as its outside warranty" despite that the only reason its broke is an unnecessary update they pushed out. Below is a link to one of the forum posts and I've attached my correspondence with customer support. https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Other-Versa-Smartwatches/Versa-Sudden-Malfunction/m-p/5118251#M268554

Hey guys I bought a Fitbit charge 3 on Nov 2018 and have since had it die on my within the first couple of months and they replaced it and now as of the last couple of days the battery does not last a day and there are lines of dead pixels on the screen. Called them up and they basically told me tough shit but we track warranty from date of purchase not date of new unit replacement, which i guess is common practice ? i wouldn't know. Im writing this now for basically two reasons, first i need recommendations for replacements from preferably more reliable companies that would last me at-least 3 years, maybe ? (prioritizing active heart-rate, and sleep tracking and a decent battery life ) and, to basically let the community know about my experience with fitbit (which i used to think was a trust worthy and reliable company).

So I had heard rumblings about the LG Watch Sport for a while and I was really interested. I actually have an extra SIM card laying around and I have a data pool plan so it won't affect my bill each month. I like the Sport's usefulness as a full device all on its own. I would be pairing it with a Galaxy S7 which has suited me rather well. I really just want a smart watch so I don't have to pull my phone out to see messages. I am also hoping it will have functionality when I am away from my phone. I use android pay inconsistently but the NFC on the Sport would be nice. The biggest thing I am running into is the price. I thought it would be launching at $250, not $350! I have been saving for a while. I have around $700 so I obviously have enough play money to get it but I have also been planning to buy a new monitor and my 2012 MacBook Pro 13inch is getting long in the tooth for the Final Cut Editing I like to do. I'm asking actual smart watch owners: Have you found your smart watch worth it? Has it really improved your life? Do you think these new watches are worth the price bump?

I'm looking into getting a smart watch but I don't wanna spend the money for an Apple Watch does anyone have any good suggestions?

So I picked up the moto 360 gen 1 about 1 year ago for dirt cheap. The band is dead and thinking I might just upgrade it all together. I'm running a oneplus 3t. Splash resistance is nice (ip67) but I find ip68 over kill. Data in the watch is pointless to me. Health services are nice but low on priority NFC would be nice Speaker/microphone is nice Large watches are fine by me I'm more classy watch vs sport I never had battery issues with the 360, and multiple day battery is over kill. What are some budget options and higher end.

You know that sick apple watch nylon band, is there one that works for standard 22mm watches? China always rips off apple, but I cant find anny watch bands that look like the apple one. Cheers, Master Jorn

Hello LTT forums! I'm looking at getting a new watch (mine broke) and I thought eh, why not try out at a smart watch. I do have some experience with smart watches and Android Wear smart watches but have not spent proper time with it (not on my wrist for significant enough time). With that in mind, I wouldn't mind giving it a try. In the poll are a few that I narrowed down to, that first fit the budget and look attractive to me, tho i dont really like the flat tyre bellow the 360 and the Q. Any suggestions and feedback? Christmas' round da corner Thanks!

The Nubia Alpha Wrist Phone with it's flexible display is really pushing the boundaries of what a wearable can be, and although it's a pretty bad time to use now, it certainly has potential. Buy some other smart watch On Amazon: https://geni.us/e1IkC On Newegg: https://geni.us/liBN

So my pebble steel is getting a bit old and I am looking for an upgrade. I am on the fence between the Ticwatch Pro and the Fitbit Versa Special Edition. I really don't know what one I want. I like the Versa because: It's size (I have very dainty wrists). The better fitness tracking. The battery life. But I like the Ticwatch because: It is running Wear OS and is the better smartwatch. It has an always-on display. Extras like Assistant, phone toggles, mic and speaker. Please help me decide!

Hi Everyone, TLDR: Does Google Fit support multiple watches? More detail: I've been thinking about getting a smartwatch (a nicer, conventional-looking one) for day-to-day wear around the office. I've also been looking at using one as a means to track my various workouts (running, bicycling, etc) in Google Fit without dragging my phone along. However, the larger and heavier (not to mention expensive) "office" watch is not the type I'd want to bring with me on workouts. As such, I've thought about getting a smaller band-style smartwatch for use specifically during workouts. But that would require Google Fit to play nicely with multiple watches. Is this something that Fit supports? Is it something that you do yourself? How has it been working out for you? Thanks.

One time I had taken out and then replaced a sim card in an old phone I was getting ready to sell. I then received a phone call and I saw my old iPhone picked up the call, even though I was using my new phone. I was wondering if I could order a smart watch and just pop in one of my two older sims (with the same phone number) to get calls on the watch. I'm sure I'm mistaken but it makes sense to me. I ask this because I;m thinking of getting a smart watch and if adding 4g to it is that easy and doesn't add any extra charges top my plan then I'll want to do that.

Hey LTT Forums! I’ve been using my trusty G-Shock for about 3-4 years now and it’s worked perfectly until I was too lazy to change the battery and I’ve been toying around the idea of getting a new watch. So since it would be the only watch I’ll be having I wanted it to be discreet and be usable like a normal watch without being connected to a phone and also not look like a smart watch (not a full screen but maybe a digital time readout instead of a configurable screen and then an included screen) since I’m gonna be wearing this too school where they don’t let us get smart watches or phones I want it to be perfectly usable and when I get back home and go out I would like it to show me all the info I wanted like reading out my notifications or measuring my steps etc etc. something like the Razer Nabu watch but without the horrible quality complaints (I’m also used to a large and bulky design) also maybe around the same price point as the Nabu. Help me out! and Thanks!!

I'm looking to get a fitness tracker or smart watch, but I have a few must-haves which seem to be met by some of the Garmin accessories, so I'm hoping someone here has experience with them. The things I need in a device like this are the following: Always-on display GPS Water resistant enough to swim Receive text alerts At least 2 days of battery life without the GPS The ones I'm looking at now are the Vivosport and Vivoactive 3. Thanks!

Hi there I am needing a smart watch and I have a £50 limit. I have done hours of researching and have found this watch (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MSYUOFM/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza). I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this watch is good or not. Thanks Dylan ;-)
