Long story short, my Motorola Z play droid from 2017 started boot looping on Tuesday, and there's some very important data that I absolutely NEED that only exists on this phone. I need a way to get it into working order again, by any means possible, or four years of work goes down the drain. Any professional repair company recommendation, or DIY solution would be helpful. Thank you Edit: No, I never rooted it, and yes, it has probably already been updated to Android 8.0

New Zealand mobile providers will be blacklisting Samsung Galaxy Note 7's on the 18th of November, two weeks from now. New Zealand mobile providers will be using the same method what mobile providers use if a phone is stolen. You can still use the internet via wireless but not mobile data and still use apps that can work offline. http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/86104440/samsung-galaxy-note-7s-bricked-by-nz-telcos

Finally I'll soon be switching to Verizon from T-Mobile, but for the first time in years I'm tasked with the challenge of finding a decent phone. My budget is around $50.00 & there's only 6 Slider or Flip Phone options on Amazon in total. So now I'm starting to wonder if I should just get a smart phone, been hesitant because I feared anything under a couple hundred might be so cheap it's touch screen would break from a 2 inch fall. That's where y'all come in, help prove my concerns wrong with a decent smart phone for under the price I mentioned. In terms of features I'm anything but picky, although if it's possible to get one with an alright 3+ Megapixel Camera then that'd be great. More importantly though, it needs the ability to be plugged into a PC for pic transferring. My current Samsung flip phone oddly can't do this although a previous model that broke could. An SD slot would be nice but probably not required unless some only have a few MB on board. I've seen dozens of smart phone choices on Amazon for under 60 but could really use all y'all's help in whittling em down to the most durable/reliable. *Update/Edit: My budget is around 50 bucks for 3 phones, myself & two family friends. Since we'll be getting the lowest Verizon plan with minimal data, not that we use it anyway, that aspect of the phones isn't important.

It's odd to me that smart phone cameras in 2019 offer better visuals and audio compared to what we see in laptops. Laptop webcams are typically rubbish quality visually and provide terrible audio. What if laptop manufacturers decided to put the mobile camera from the Google Pixel 3A in their laptops? I guess it would cost them a bit more working with Google but having a great quality camera to handle conference calls and such, would that be worth the cost of doing business with Google to consumers in laptops? I suppose it's debatable considering some people really care about webcam quality and others don't care if the laptop comes with a webcam at all.

So the title says it all, and I figured it would be kind of a neat conversation topic. What is the coolest gimmick you've seen in a phone? Be it the a smart phone like the new Razr or the Samsung Fold or like an old "basic" phone like the Sidekick. My personal favorite was always the Pantech Razzle: Yes you're looking at that right, the bottom half of the phone twists, one side being a keyboard the other was an inconvenient MP3 Player(Inconvenient because it still had one of the older smaller headphone jacks on it, so you couldn't use normal headphones with it.

G'day, Jeff in Australia. Due to a sad death in the family, we now have an Honor 7C Android SmartPhone. When you power it on, it prompts for a PIN number, but sadly we have no way of knowing what this is. We dearly want to access and get back into the phone (to view last calls made and received, and the same for SMS's), so obviously do NOT want to hard reset / factory restore / wipe the phone. Seeking people's advice, please, on how to achieve the above ?. Any and all help and advice shall be greatly appreciated. Kind thanks in advance, Jeff.

So, after months of leaks (opening of the flood gates, really) the Pixel 3 XL has officially been announced. I am in the need of a new phone very badly (completely bricked my Samsung Galaxy S7 and currently rocking an old and semi-functioning iPhone 5s) and have been patiently waiting for the new pixel to be launched. I love the stock android experience as I get frustrated with all the bloatware of other phones. I also don't want to try and get another phone with bloatware and try to remove it by rooting (how I ended up bricking my older S7). However, based on the specs of the phone and looking at its price and the mound of features and changes that are not great, is there a reason to get the new Pixel 3 XL, especially compared with the 2 XL and the upcoming Oneplus 6T? It seems like the real meat of the phone is almost the same as the 2 XL, so why even bother with the newer model? I am an extremely heavy phone user and I am worried that the 4 GB of memory won't be enough.

I have my dad's old smart phone, it's an LG, not sure the specific model, but right now that doesn't matter as it refuses to turn on, but I was thinking, if I do miraculously get it to work, it's not like it's on the phone plan anyways, so maybe put a different OS on it, is there a distro of Linux that runs on ARM? I'm not sure if you can just get Android or if it's more for commercial use, but if you can just download it, would that be recommended?

https://www.fastcompany.com/40530898/six-u-s-intelligence-agencies-warn-against-using-huawei-phones Six intelligence officials, including the heads of the CIA, FBI, and NSA, have told the Senate Intelligence Committee that they would not recommend that U.S. citizens use smartphones from the Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE, reports CNBC. As FBI director Chris Wray told the committee: “We’re deeply concerned about the risks of allowing any company or entity that is beholden to foreign governments that don’t share our values to gain positions of power inside our telecommunications networks. That provides the capacity to exert pressure or control over our telecommunications infrastructure. It provides the capacity to maliciously modify or steal information. And it provides the capacity to conduct undetected espionage.”

Greetings Everyone. I haven't been following mobile phone releases for some time so can anyone recommend a smart phone for my parent? The price range is below $100. I know that is crazy low but they don't use it for anything except browsing the internet and using (android based) applications such as whatsapp, facebook, twitter, messenger etc. I know there are some great phones by huawei, oppo and some other underrated companies out there. Things that have a bit of priority are: Up to date android (7.0 is ok for them) and usable i.e no frustrating things like lag or bad quality buttons, issues with batter etc. Also, It would be great if the phone release could be in recent years (they have been frustrated with their old phone because of no firmware updates and such). Thanking you in anticipation.

My Xiaomi redmi 2 constantly is heating up within 5 seconds of inserting the battery. It gets super hot, probably to its maximum. My phone wont boot either. If I hold down the power button then the phone vibrates once like usual, but it does not boot. No display on screen, its black, not even powered on I guess. I tried another battery and it is the same issue. I put the supposed faulty battery in another phone and that phone booted, so the battery can't be the problem. To get the phone to heat up I dont even really have to press and hold down any button, it automatically starts heating up like wild when I insert the battery. This problem started after say 5-7hrs of updating the phone. There was a very small update from Xiaomi which was supposed to fix the calendar app and few other small things. Ever since that day my phone is not working. It is out of warranty, can someone help/ guide me?

Yesterday my phone started acting very strange - constantly crashing apps and acting very slow. I decided to restart my phone, as this usually solves all issues. However, my phone wouldn't reboot after this, and endlessly restarted. I looked for a solution online, finding and following several different guides. This includes attempting to boot in safe mode, which failed, and wiping my cache, which failed. Somehow, just before I was preparing to factory reset my phone, it suddenly booted correctly. I backed up my phone and factory reset it, which solved the issue for the next few hours. Suddenly, the next day, my phone's screen glitches out (a tanish set of lines appeared on the screen) and crashes. Now it's stuck in a reboot loop once again, one a factory reset has not fixed. What can I do?

Hello, I am wanting to find a cheap android smart phone to replace my existing Huawei Assent Y201-Pro. The main reason I want to update is because the battery is not lasting as long as it used to and it is so slow and the screen has a horrible resolution. I am not a heavy phone user I would want a phone under $150 AUD and would prefer having a Quad Core Processor for many years of use to come and not being soo dahm slow. I don't really care about the GUI or the camera quality too but I don't really want a terrible camera too and I don't want it much bigger than my existing and I certainly DO NOT want a phablet. I don't care about what brand it is as long it is decent and I would also want it to be unlocked, so i can use what ever carrier I want. I would prefer to buy install (or order it in store) than to buy it online, and I can wait 2+months or so, so I am not in a hurry. Remember I live in Australia so please take that into consideration.

YES, that's right. A giant phablet. It is only a low to mid range phone though from Ramos called The Ramos Q7. It is also a windows phone. Specs: 1280x720 IPS LCD screen Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor with 1.2-1.4 GHz clock speed 1GB of RAM 16GB of internal storage 5MP rear camera 2MP front-facing camera While not impressive specs the thing that is amazing is the 4000 mAh battery. This thing may last you days. Ramos I believe is a Chinese OEM and the phone most likely will only be available in China. The second largest smart phone I know of is 6 inches which is already to large for me. Have you heard of any other giant smart phones and those of you that like large phones, is there to big or is this a dream size to have? Looking at upgrading from a Iphone 4s to an android phone. Have been looking into the LG G3, HTC One M8 and the HTC Desire 816 but still can't decide. I mostly just watch movies and listen to music over the speaker and occasionally play games but not often. Any recommendations? *EDIT: Photo quality is important*

I dabble in comedy writing because I have a hard time being social with people and this is something I was thinking about for a while so help me make it better. If it's not funny don't be the typical anonymous internet bully. Give helpful advice or shut up. For your reference, I will mention Slick and Linus. They are not part of what I was originally thinking. Social media in the way that Linus and Slick are doing it I think is the correct way to do it. They have an actual tech service that they give us and their Twitter feeds are usually full of awesome tech talk. But... What if Einstein, instead of sitting and pondering to himself about the world, the universe and humanity, had an iPhone and Twitter? Instead of, "The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination." We would have, "The true sign of intellig- OMFG Joey sent me a pic of his drunken throw up! LOL I'm going to forward this to everyone! What a douche! I'm going to kick his ass when I see him!" See where I am going with this? Watch any cable news station and on a slow news day. They will have the most pathetic attempt to get into social media. I shit you not, when the president was giving a speech a few days ago about Syria, CNN cut the speech out and went to their Twitter feed. WHAAAT THEEEE ****! The president is talking to us about the possibility of another war or a military strike against a dictator that will have clear consequences for our future in the middle east, and Matt from Brooklyn has to chime in with something either way too racist, filled with conspiracies, or plain dumb (because you know how people on the internet are). "Why are we fighting a neverending war in Sirya (sic)?" Oh thank's Matt, I didn't know we were already in a long term war in "Sirya" This was my inspiration for this:

I am starting to get annoyed with the whole "smart phone" industry. Every week it seems that a new phone or 2 are being released, all pretty much having the same performance, specs and design. It feels exhausting trying to keep up and with devices being so expensive and carrier contracts being 2-3 years long it is just not feasible for average consumer to keep up. Too many companies are trying to hop onto the phone bandwagon. Then there is the constant bombardment of advertisements from the good folks at the marketing departments of carriers and manufacturers. Anyone else feeling exhausted and annoyed by this? I know competition is good and so is advancement, but at this point it feels like companies are just moving the power and volume buttons and calling it "innovative." EDIT: Recently got the Note 2 and it has revitalized me. Amazing device!

Okay, so I have a HTC One in black, and am debating whether or not to sell it and get a Google Nexus 5. With it being almost confirmed as having the 2.26GHz Snapdragon 800 inside it, and a 13mp camera, it's looking pretty tempting. I've just grown so attached to the build quality of my HTC One with it's premium feel. Should I root my HTC One to get stock android or sell it and get a nexus 5? I did have a Nexus 7 so have had experience with Nexus devices before.

There was a discussion on the WAN show and it seemed like Linus was pretty dismissive of modular phones except for the low end. However, I would point out to him he featured a bulky modded Galaxy Note 2 awhile back with a massive battery and an SD (not microSD but real SD) adapter. Also I personally know few people who wouldn't mind a big phone as long as they could carry it around. Not to mention the number of people I see using phones with cracked/shattered screens. I think a modular phone could be a low, mid, and high end device. Enough about what I think what does the LTT forum think about modular smart phones?
