Okay, so I need some help. I've tried so many things and at this point I need to make a post for help. I'm down to try everything I've already done before in the off chance it works now or I did it wrong the first time. The Issue: When I run a speed test on my desktop pc I get about 400/500 down and 100 up. I'm paying for gigabit and expect to see at least 800 (which if I recall correctly, was what I was getting when I first built my machine). When I run the speed test using my old laptop through the same ethernet cable, I get around 700/800 down and around 300/400 up. On top of that and the main cause for me trying to fix this is my ping spikes, especially in online games. Randomly (about once a match in Overwatch so every 20 minutes), I get a massive ping spike where my in-game latency goes from around 30-40ms to 600ms+ for a brief moment and then back down to 30-40ms. Hardware: My pc is a self built desktop running Windows 11. GPU: RTX 4090, CPU: i9-13900k, Motherboard: Rog Strix Z790-e gaming wifi. My internet setup is ethernet with wifi disabled (pc) to a Netgear network switch. From there it goes to a Unifi AP in my room, then it goes down to the basement into another Netgear switch. From that switch it goes into the Unifi USG, finally chaining to a Verizon router which links to the modem and then out to the street. I have managed to narrow things down somewhat. I have tested all the cables with a cable tester down to the network switch in the basement. I have also determined that the ping spike issue is somewhere local. As I have a cmd window up pinging my router and whenever I get a ping spike in game, the time in the cmd window goes from <1ms to 40/50ms+ I'm at a pretty big loss on what to do / try next. Maybe something is wrong with my computer? Maybe something is wrong with the network setup but I'm not sure how to diagnose if it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I'd be happy to follow up with any further details if needed.

Hi all, So after years of pestering Openreach to install Fibre in my area, it was finally installed by a company called BeFibre. However as of today, all devices on my network are gettin access to the full 900mbps. On the other hand, my PC wont go past 60mbps download and 2mbps upload, which is abismal. Ive tried fioddling with network adapter properties, tried a new ethernet cable, i disabled something in cmd but after that didnt work, i re enabled it. The weird part is that when i connect via wifi im getting speeds upwards of 400mbps, but to be fair i am far away from my router so im not surprised im not getting the full bandwidth via wifi. I have a cable which runs directly from the back of my router, into my room, and into a switch, which is currently what is only giving me the 60mbps down and 2mbps up. Im just a bit lost and was wondering if anybody could help? Thank you to anybody who can help PC Spec :- Amd Ryzen 3700x 16gb 3400mhz Ram RTX 3070 MSI B550 Gaming Edge Wifi

My pc bluescreens and ends up in a reboot cykle when i try to enable xmp or clock my ram to 3200mhz. I have 4 sticks of ddr4 8gb 3200mhz ram. 2 hyper X sticks and 2 corsair vengance sticks. I know that it\s tricky to mix ram but possible and the risks that follows. but it\s interesting because I had the same issue before installing 2 more sticks. i tried clocking it to 3200 because that\s what they are rated for but my windows where displaying them at first as 2600mhz. I first tought it was because I maybe installed them in the wrong slots but thought it was very unlikely since i have some experince with pc building. So I checked and there they where in 2a 2b running 700mhz to low. when i tried in increase it I got bluescreen. so i tried installing 2 more sticks of reliable ram that i knew worked correctly *corsair vengance| but still nothing and still bluescreens when xmp enabled

Hi, I just got my new Samsung T7 Touch 1TB in today and connected it to my PC. I was curious to see what speeds it would get so I ran CrystalDiskMark to check the speed of the drive. I connected it via the USB C port on my PC (which supports 10Gb/s) and I am getting speeds of around 615MB/s which is a lot slower than the speeds I seen other people getting online. Videos online were showing this drive reaching 850-900MB/s so I am wondering if this is an issue with the drive. I do not have another pc with usb c to test this on. the only other USB C devices I have is my 2018 iPad Pro and my smartphone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Important information: I have frontier internet (fiber) 500/500mbps Current router: Netgear Nighthawk X6S - Model: R7960P All tests were done on hard-wired internet Problem: So in the past whenever I downloaded games they would download at 45-55mb a second. Recently when I download games they hover around 20-30mb a second which is pretty much half as before. So I decided to try the router Frontier provided and all of a sudden downloads went back to 45-55mb a second. Obviously I want to use my Netgear router because it just simply has better wifi performance. So what am I doing wrong and how do I fix this problem? Update: still slow

REPOST: STILL LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER. Important information: I have frontier internet (fiber) 500/500mbps Current router: Netgear Nighthawk X6S - Model: R7960P All tests were done on hard-wired internet mbps = megabits per second in the post above. And the direct translation I am using is 500 Mbps = 59.6 MB/second download speed. Frointer device: Arris NVG468MQ. Yes I do get a wireless signal from that device. Frontier router: Speedtest.com: D- 380.56 U-490.32 https://ibb.co/Rz3LZWh https://ibb.co/HVVT6Dc Netgear router: Speedtest.com: D- 490.28 U- 530.97 https://ibb.co/rbd0skp https://ibb.co/1MM964x Problem: So in the past whenever I downloaded games they would download at 45-55mb a second. I was hoping someone could assist me. TLDR: My Samsung TV has slower download speeds and much faster upload speeds over my WiFi in the bedroom. A year ago, I moved into a new small place with my partner. We bought all new TVs, one of which was a Samsung UA49RU7100 for the downstairs bedroom. It is connected to our router via WiFi. It is an Asus RT-AC88U. The router is upstairs in the loft area. We chose upstairs as that is where I have my PC connected via Ethernet. Our internet is a 100/100 fibre line for reference. For months the TV worked perfectly. We could stream Netflix at 4K and it streamed off my Plex server (my gaming PC) without issues. However, a few months ago it turned to trash. Netflix would sometimes go down to something out of 1985 and my Plex streaming would buffer to the point that nothing was watchable. I performed a speed test on the TV and it gets 3mb down, but over 40mb up. Sometimes the download speed drops to 0.2mb, while the upload can reach 50mb. Ping is never more than 7ms to local servers. I have changed nothing on my network. What is weird is sometimes the speed is okay and other times it is so slow that Netflix doesn't even load images. And it has never gotten back to the original speeds. Unfortunately I never did a speed test when it was working fine originally. What boggles me is the fact that the upload speeds are so high. It is not as high as my internet speed, but I can understand that due to some WiFi loss between the router on the 1st floor and the TV downstairs. The firmware on my TV and on the router are up to date. I have tried disabling QoS, the firewall and all forms of power saving on both devices. Still nothing. I even tried to put aluminium foil around the router to try and bounce as much of the signal downstairs. It did nothing. Opening the windows for some reason improves the speed by like 1mbps. Everything else in the house that connects to the WiFi works at full speed. We have another LG TV upstairs and it works perfectly. I even put my phone against the TV in the same area and did a speed test. It gets the full 100/100 results. It is only connected to 2.4Ghz as the 5Ghz signal doesn't reach the TV. Even my phone gets a weak signal on 5Ghz in that area. I found this post which is almost exactly what we are experiencing, but I do not want to disable WMM as that will affect everything else in the house. My router doesn't even allow me to disable it without using legacy mode WiFi. The floor is concrete, but the distance is around 2 meters between the router and the TV. And since the upload speed is so good, there has to be something else slowing my download speed of this TV. Any assistance would be appreciated. I have spent months trying to fix this with no solution. I have attached pictures of a rough floor plan to illustrate the physical layout. The loft is right above the bedroom. If nothing works, I am looking to either get a powerline adapter or get a commercial WiFi AP from Ubiquiti. Hoping not to spend money.

Okay so to start off, I've only had like 1 internet "issue" in the year that i've moved to my new house. Now, I'm starting to have some issues that nobody can seem to figure out. First, I notice my ping in games is much higher than it normally is, like 10-20ms higher. Next, is my download speed. I pay for 400mbps down. Not getting that of course, its pretty much anywhere from 70-90 every single speed test. I had to go to work the first day the problems started so my mom decided to call my isp, but maybe wasn't able to articulate the problem very well, she said that they wanted to send us a new modem, since speeds were the same when bypassing the router. This wasn't the problem because speeds used to be normal. Today, we had a technician come to our house and he could not find any problems. The only thing that i can think of is if maybe i have a router firmware update? I'm lost at this point as everything i have tried doesn't work. I've tried restarting router, resetting to defaults, restarting from my isp's end, the speedtests are lower over wifi and ethernet, doesn't seem to matter. If you guys have any ideas that would mean a lot. Thanks :D

Hello not new too the tech world but i am new too getting everything wired up using Ethernet cords you know since " its ohh so much better than wifi" but today i have encounterd a big problem. so a couple of weeks ago me and my roommates have invested into a network switch and some cables. Hello, I bought a laptop Lenovo Y520, it has a SSD NvMe (Hynix FC401) 256GB.... When I did finished installing the OS and all the stuff, I found out that the PC was slow in multitasking then I saw slow speeds copy from my external HDD. Thats triggered some "confusion" and I started to make CrystalBench. Did install again the drivers, diferente version of the OS (oldest and newest)... STILL slow speeds as u can see... it goes down and stays to 20mb/s. I contacted the store, they wanna the laptop but I can´t go there now since Im far away for 2 weaks... Any solution? Any advice? Because its strange I never had a SSD (NvMe)... Temps are 75/77ºC I told that the store and they said its "normal"... so hmmm Im kinda sad... As u can see, I tryed to copy a file after startup and yes I got higher Write speed then usual (20mb/s) but as u can see after 10 min it dropped to 18,3mb/s WTF...

So I recently built a pc and everything is working great, however my wifi adapter is the shittiest thing ever lmao. I'm currently trying to download MSI afterburner and its downloading in KB/s which is not normal on my wifi. My wifi typically has speeds up to 60MBPS even when multiple people are using it. I've tried fiddling with the wifi settings multiple times, switched between all my USB ports etc. I'm not sure what its issue is it had good reviews and it claims speedcs of up to 433mbps and of course its fully compatible with windows 10. Any thoughts?

Two servers can't transfer files between each other on 10GbE
jkirkcaldy posted a topic in Networking
So I am having issues when trying to transfer files between my two servers. One server is a Dell R710 and the other is a whitebox build. Both are equipped with Mellanox Connect x2 10GbE adaptors (only nic the server can see, all others are dedicated to Hyper-V), both are running win server 2016, both are plugged into a Quanta LB4M switch. (2x10GB SFP+ 48x1GB RJ45) The speeds transfering from any other PC to either one of the servers is fine and seems to be working as expected. The issue is when trying to transfer files between the two servers themselves. I also have an issue now where I can't setup an iSCSI connection between them using the 10GbE connections. But have no problem connecting to other machines using the same connections. It's almost like, whilst the servers can see each other on the network, they can't talk to each other or there is something stopping them from transmitting too much data. I am sure it's something in the configurations that I have messed up somewhere, or a limitation of the switch (which would be annoying) but I have no idea where to start looking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.- 5 replies

Hey guys! I`ve never had much luck with local network shares, but my speeds are absurdly slow! I`m trying to transfer some files from my notebook (connected via wifi to my 300mbps router) to my PC (connected via gigabit cable), and yet I`m getting 300KBps average and 700KBps peak, with some periods where the transfer stalls completely. I know wifi sucks when it comes to transfer speeds, but I can download stuff from the internet at constant 2MBps (max my ISP can give me) at ease both when I`m on the notebook (proving my wifi can do better) and the PC. Both are running Windows 10, both have ssds installed, and both are within 2 meters from the router. Does anyone have any idea of wth can I do? Thanks a lot!
