hey guys! I am having problem which developed lately , i own a Acer aspire 3 laptop with i3 8130U CPU in it and have been using it since 2018. Problem is, it has some how disabled the turbo boost on the CPU and there no way i can turn it back on. there is no thermal throttling, power plans are set to performance only (even the font looks like ****) , no tweaks or tinkering with softwares have i done which would have caused this issue, and the most mind bogling thing is there is NO OPTION available for it to enable in the BIOS , its just like Bios from 2000. i have updated every driver in the system even the chipsets, but there is no fruit to it. To get to the root of it , i installed Intel extreme tuning Utility to find out what the problem and VIOLA! here are the pics...... there it was disabled. How ever i found myself a weird solution which enables the turbo boost force fully but boost is disabled if i disabled it manually or shutdown my laptop and i have to enable the turbo boost after every boot up through a software called " QuickCPU" where i go into the advanced settings and enable it. i contacted Acer for this but they were just beating around the bush, before any of this happen laptop was running as a champ boosting to 3.4GHz in games and almost all the time staying at the same boost and when i ever used the android OS, i was also boosting to 3.4GHz but now i can hardly enable it in the windows 10 but there is not way to turbo boost on the Android OS only monitor the boost. now it does not even turbo boost in any task even it's 100% utilization it stays at 2.2GHz unless i use the tweak by QuickCPU. the temps are good due to decent thermal design. i am sorry for my English! i just want my laptop to turbo boost automatically like it used to do! please guys help! here are some more pics of that weird software hack! before and after (the EDP graph is only one turning yes or yellow)

In the last video of LMG, which compares i3-7350k to a i5-7400 (downgraded i7-7700k) I found a mistake:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qn_E_pI9GeY In this video, i3-7350k is clocked at 5Ghz and they have a downgraded i7-7700k to i5-7400 (I assume it's running with "turbo boost" at 3.5Ghz for single thread and 3Ghz or higher for multi thread).. In single thread, the result is 196 Cb for the i3 and for the i5 it is 151 Cb. In multi thread, the result is 528 Cb for the i3 and for the i5 it is 436 Cb. And here comes the problem. The assumed frequency I take for i5-7400 at multi thread is 3.0Ghz, which means 85.71% of 3.5Ghz, resulting in 151 x 4 x 85.71% = ~518. That doesn't make sense, it comes with conflict with the video right? Especially since the Cb score of i5-7400@Anandtech is 554 (probably turbo boost is running the i5-7400 a bit higher than stock frequency, around 3.2 to 3.2Ghz): http://www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/1029 And some other source about Multi Thread score rating the Cb multithreading to 563: http://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/cpu_benchmark-cinebench_r15_multi_core-8 And the score of i5-6400 is about 490-530 at different sites: http://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/cpu-intel_core_i5_6400-527 http://www.trustedreviews.com/intel-core-i5-6400-review-benchmarks-page-2 http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/71760-intel-skylake-i5-6500-i5-6400-i3-6100-review-4.html http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/core-i5-6400-cpu-review/6/ This means that either LMG did a mistake, either editing at video, or at the downgrade of i7-7700k, or the i7-7400 is slower than its predecessor (which comes in conflict with anadtech result and other sources)! I am waiting for Linus or some Admininstrator to answer to both me, but also to any other who watched his video, and clear the issue. This is a big mistake, if done by LMG, and should be addressed with a good fix and fast.

So I thought it would be fun to build a mineral oil pc as kind of a side project and something interesting to have, Since it will be a tertiary system I'll be using it for Folding and light gaming. Here is the parts list I've complied so far: https://secure.newegg.com/Wishlist/SharedWishlistDetail?ID=%2f%2bNDG2gMdt8%3d&cm_mmc=snc-twitter-_-sr-_-wishlist-%2f%2bNDG2gMdt8%3d-_-09%2f20%2f2018 https%3a%2f%2fsecure.newegg.com%2fWishlist%2fSharedWishlistDetail%3fID%3d%2f%2bNDG2gMdt8%3d%2csnc-twitter-_-sr-_-wishlist-%2f%2bNDG2gMdt8%3d-_-09%2f20%2f2018 All in system cooling is passive so there are no moving parts and I've done what I can to have as minimal wiring as possible, there will be a radiator setup as well to keep the oil cool and moving. Any suggestions would be welcome and as soon I can get moving on it I'll post updates.

If any of you remember a couple of months ago, I invited LMG to a class launch of a Raspberry PI to the Upper Stratosphere. This time, I need the community's help getting Linus' attention to invite him to next year's launch or have something sent up to near space for free! Linus, if you would like more information, please contact us via our Facebook page. We look forward to hearing from you!

Hey, I've haven't used a controller in forever. However, recently I decided to purchase a controller because I play a fair amount of driving/flight games, and to make Rocket League slightly less completely impossible. I've narrowed it down to the Xbox One controller and the Xbox 360 controller. I'm leaning toward the XBOne controller, but it's quite a bit more expensive than the 360 controller for what seems like a very similar product. So, purely for use on a PC, which would you recommend? Is the One controller better than the 360, and worth the premium? Would you suggest another controller? Thanks all

So, when I'm not at my desk gaming with my HyperX Clouds I've been using a crappy pair of Apple Earpods, the ones that come with iPhones. They're so old I don't actually remember how I got them, because I've never owned an iPhone, and the rubber coating on the cable is peeling off exposing the copper wire. I decided, it's time for a well-needed upgrade. They'll be used for listening to electronic music, as well as just general YouTube/Netflix TV watching with phones and tablets. I'd like something with good sound quality, with a decent amount of bass if possible. They should also be relatively cheap, say, under US$75. They don't need to be Bluetooth, but they do need to be very compact as these will be my travel/bed headphones, so in-ears or very compact on-ears would be preferred. In-line mic not required. I might be asking too much, but if anyone has any suggestions as to quality in-ears that would fit my criteria, that'd be great. If you need any more info let me know. Thanks, have a great day everyone

I'm looking into getting an AMD RX 480, but I'm torn on whether to get the reference card or an aftermarket one. My case is the Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV ITX, which has very little room for air-cooled cards to breathe (half an inch of space between the GPU's fans and the PSU basement, at best). 200mm intake, 120mm exhaust, both spinning slowly to keep the noise down. So, in this situation, do you think a reference-style blower card would be better than an aftermarket, open-style cooler? Bear in mind my CPU is air-cooled and with my current aftermarket R9 390 CPU temps are ok, 65-ish when gaming. Aftermarket open cooler or blower reference card? Would the reference card do better for cooling the GPU than an open card, with not much space to breathe? I've seen the reference card run kind of hot but would it be better in a case with little breathing space? Cheers everyone, have a great day

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36707266 What do you think? I really didn't like him and I'm glad he's quit, but fair play to him for having the humility to step down.

Hey. I have a bit of a dilemma. My case is the Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV ITX, and I'm looking to upgrade to the GTX 1070 in July. Thing is, the GPU would only have about a centimetre (possibly 1.5) of space for the fans to breathe, as the PSU basement is directly underneath the card. There are holes in the basement for some air travel but this isn't ideal. I have a 200mm intake and a 120mm exhaust. My CPU is air-cooled with a CRYORIG H5. So, bearing this information in mind: 1) When looking at 1070s, should I be looking at blower or aftermarket-style cards, bearing in mind the limited breathing room for GPU fans? 2) Do you think it would be worthwhile to replace the 200mm intake with 2x 140mm pressure optimised fans and the 120mm exhaust with another 140? 3) Is the fact that the CPU is air-cooled going to increase GPU temps at all? Thanks in advance, have a great day EDIT: Here's some pics so you know how much clearance there is for the GPU.

So, I made a thread yesterday about how I was noticing my MSI R9 390 hitting 90 to 95 degrees in stuff like Kombustor and Firestrike, but not in games like Portal 2, TF2 and Rocket League. So, I'm at a loss as to what to do next and I need your help. Calling all forumers; assistance required! Here are my options: 1: Repaste the card. I don't know if this is the cause or if this'll help, but I'm hesitant to do this as I've never disassembled a GPU before and I couldn't find any guides for my specific card. If you know of a teardown guide for my card please link it. 2: Use my spare GTX 960 2GB. This would be easiest but it's substantially less powerful than my 390 so I'd really rather not. 3: Ignore the problem and hope it goes away. Not ideal for obvious reasons. 4: Warranty. I bought the card in July of last year, so this might still be possible, I'll have to check. However, there's one issue: I don't have the original packaging, warranty card or confirmation email. I do have the card's serial number, but I'm not sure if that'll help. If anyone would like to let me know whether either MSI UK or eBuyer UK will accept a return with just the serial code, please let me know. So, my question is simple; what do I do? Anyone know about MSI UK's warranty with just the card's serial number? How about repasting it and seeing if that helps? Thanks in advance, I hope you have a better day than I'm having

Well, last night I pushed my PC pretty hard (played Rocket League for about 45 mins and then ran the DIRT Rally inbuilt benchmark) Temps were acceptable (I think) the CPU stayed below 60 and the GPU went to about 75. I shut it down and left it overnight. Thing is, this morning everything seems to be running a few degrees hotter than usual. Like, I used to be at around 35 to 36 degrees in Chrome, now I'm at 38 to 39. My GPU used to stay at around 55 to 58 degrees when browsing, now it remains rather stubbornly at 64. I can turn the GPU fans up to 100% and the temps go back down, but once I put it back on it's zero-fan profile they climb right the way back up to 64, when they used to be a bit lower. Why is this happening? As far as I can tell it's not any hotter in my room and I didn't make any changes to case fan profiles. I pushed it hard last night and since then everything's just been running several degrees hotter than usual. What's going on? Thanks in advance!

Hey, I was thinking that an awesome idea for some shirts for Linus Tech Tips that could be sponsored by Squarespace would be to have a picture of Luke saying "Build it Beautiful"! I know I would buy one. Maybe others too? I've tweeted this is Linus and Luke. Tell me what you think and if you like it tweet it too them as well! Have a great day and a happy new year

So, I've been watching LTT since May and I still have no idea what turnip means. Anyone care to explain?
-
As the title suggest, why is Luke no longer called Slick?
-
Anyone know what gloves Luke's wearing in this video (URL set to time code in video)? Was curious if they were a feasible / sensible alternative to an anti-static ankle/wrist strap? Cheers all, J

It seems someone download LTT vessel videos and upload them in dailymotion. Chanell has 1500 views. http://www.dailymotion.com/1bs017
