The reason that i choose the T variant from intel is mainly the difficulty to manage the heat which would be a problem with the standard type let alone the K, X & XE unlocked versions in a 1,5U short depth servercase [update: due to some miner ajustments with the airflow, the average temps of the GPU are about 8°C lower] Performance Benchmarks - 3DMark TimeSpy [2160p] - 8250 points [VIdeocard = 67°C] - MAXON Cinebench R15 - 1040 point [Processor = 50°C] - MSI Kombustor [2160p] - 27fps [Videocard = 66°C] Performance in Game [Default settings - 4k@60Hz with G-Sync and Dolby Atmos enabled] - Watch Dogs: Legion - [High settings without ray-tracing - 60 fps average [GPU = 66°C] - Cyberpunk 2077 - [Custom High setting without ray-tracing - 60 fps average [GPU= 64°C] - Ghost Recon® The Division 2 - [High settings 70 fps average [GPU = 66°C] - Need for Speed™ Unbound - [High - 70 fps average [GPU= 62°C] - Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered - - Ghost Recon® Breakpoint Heat: - Intel® Core™ i9-11900T Processor 16M Cache, 4.90 GHz 55°C max (No difference in temp.. only better results) Intel® Core™ i5-11400T - 55°C max - MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Aero ITX 12GB OC - 72°C max [Undervolt GPU 1850Mhz > 2050Mhz / Mem 7500Mhz > 8000Mhz] Noise: - Have to measure it jet but it's a very quiet setup considering the size and type of cooling that is used A sidenote [with the glass serverdoor open, the temps are about 5°C lower than stated as above with closed door results] Any advise about the planned build.. Possible bottlenecks / overkill etc.. are welcome [edit 04-04-2024 - Finally done with the DIY grill for the Noctua fans.. (Bit less of a hazard.. specially for me cause I allways wanna touch the fans)

So as part of a current project i am attempting to build a pc in a old xbox 360 E case. The problem i am having is that i found online this PSU called HDPLEX 400W Hi-Fi DC-ATX and wondered if i need another part as this is just one of many parts i can see on their website. Just wondering if this is the best possible small form factor PSU. Any help is appreciated and suggestions are welcome.

Hi Guys, I just want to share my recently assembled sleeper PC. My PC case broke and i don't have enough money to buy a new one atm. I saw and i bought a really cheap old case and decided to give it a go. Got inspired by Linus' videos on creating sleeper PC. Please share Your thoughts, criticize if You must so I can improve it. Sorry for misaligned cuttings, i really don't have proper tools but so far I'm happy of the outcome of what I did. what's inside: PSU: CM V750 MOBO: MSI Z370m gaming pro AC CPU: i5 8600k @ 4.5ghz GPU: MSI gaming X gtx 1080 RAM: 2x 8GB NVME: 500gb Samsung PM981 SSD: (OS) 240GB WD Green HDD: 1TB Toshiba 7200 CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 Front intake: Noctua ippc 3000 Rear Exhaust: Noctua ippc 2000 PC Case: idk, some old PC case bought for 3 USD, 5 USD including keyboard and mouse. Surprisingly, the KB and Mouse is quite good even for gaming! Thanks! Cheers!

Budget (including currency): $500 Country: America Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Minecraft, light video editing, some modern games live tales from the far territories, and programming. Other details: I have an I5 6400, but am willing to upgrade. I would like a workstation CPU, as I will likely use it as one in the future. I have a friend that is willing to sell me a Corsair SF600 that is basically brand new, and that is it. Would like it sff I have a perifrials that I can use until I get more money.

Budget (including currency): $500 willing to go a little over if need be. Country: America Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: It will be used for minecraft a lot, might be used for video editing, and would like to be able to play more modern games if I want. Other details: I plan on using the case, which is an old office type dell I think, and the 435 watt power supply to build an entry level PC with an Ryzen 7 5700 G and use the integrated graphics, or maybe get a CPU that is cheaper ,has the same performance (not necessary graphics wise, but I would like to have integrated so I can get the GPU when I have the money), and use a half Hight, half length card, as that is all that will fit. If you need/want more details, ask specifically what you want opt know.

Currently working on my Sleeper pc and had issues getting the display to load the post startup. Already reset CMOS, Reseated Ram stick and just attempted to reseat the cpu. Opened up the cpu compartment and found a couple pins presumably bent from the first time I put the cpu in. Could this have any effect in the display not working? Cpu is a core I7 12700k

I'm thinking of building a sleeper pc. Mainly because I'll need a new computer soon anyway and I'd like to try it because I like the look of it all. But before I go ahead with anything I wanted to know if I should be worried about Airflow, and cooling in general. If I end up building it It would have mid range respectable specs, ryzen 5 2600, gtx 1060/rx 570, 16gb of ram. From my own thinking these components should do fine because they don't push massive amounts of heat out, and in the case I have I would be able to put one 180/200mm fan, and two 120mm fans. Any thoughts, tips, or just general opinions are apricated.

I'm curious if anyone has used a case prototyper (like Protocase.com) and 3D printers to make a computer that looks like an old IBM PS/2 computer but houses standard ATX components so they can have a stealth PC? I attached an image of what I am trying to decide if I should try and make.

It started when I found a guy selling old PCs on xianyu(the Chinese Ebay), I was facinated by the looking of one certain case, and that is a IBM 300gl. This piece of blue and the overall design hit my sweet spot immediately. I googled more inf about this systerm, and I found an exactly sleeper build blog here . (thanks for your inspiration) So I bought a case for 300rmb (45US) at once. but soon I found that every thing l knew about 300gl was wrong, because mine is a totally different model compare to the one I saw online. You can see that mine is about 2cm shorter and a little bit wider. It is labeled as a 300gl though, I guess this is like the NES and the FC when company saled two models in different places? Beacuse every 300gl on xianyu is the same as mine, while most of the pics on google are like his.

Hello. I'm building a sleeper pc but when I remove the old motherboard it turns out that it was directly screwed to case I wonder if I install the new motherboard like before is there a chance for it to short circuit and destroy my new components?

Hey guys, so I'm planning a sleeper and it's a top mount so the power supply will be helping with air flow. I was wondering if someone on here would be able to help me decide which power supply to get. Ryzen 5 2600 (65w) R9 390x (275w) 2-3 medium-high airflow fans Currently stuck between: -EVGA 600w 80+ gold -Thermaltake smart series 600w 80+ bronze -Corsair CX600 80+ bronze I don't know much about power supply's apart from gold is better than bronze and that all are good brands.

I thought it was going to be continued in a few weeks, maybe becuase the components in the PC market just isn't Earth Shattering yet? C'mon, i am waiting the big surprise. Maybe the Xeon Phi review was all about the sleeper PC part #2

Hi! Recently, I bought a used PC that had a good case (I wouldn’t call it that good or that old). However, when I was inspecting it, I came across these mountings things. Is it safe to just screw in my motherboard in it or do I have to drill it out to install the motherboard stands?

Hi I'm building a sleeper pc (if you don't know what it is search the LTT yt channel for it), and I picked my parts, I just wanted to see if ya'lls might have better ideas, so thanks. also the case that im using is in "computer beige" heres a link to that sub-forum, and i didn't know what the hex code was, so for anyone else looking, its #f5f5dc heres the list thanks

Where in Melbourne, Australia can I find a place that sell/give away old 80s/90s beige cases? I'm looking to build an ATX sleeper PC that's big enough to house a Noctua NH-D15 cooler inside (at least 16.5cm.) I've looked at ComputerBank but that's the only store I could really find, and no luck there. I know eBay is also a no-brainer but I'll have to wait for that one.

I have a suggestion for an LTT video: USING AN IMAC G3 or similar to build on extremely overkill watercooled gaming beast. Maybe you should replace the display with a similar size 4k monitor or something like that. I think it would be great to see an old pc reborn to destroy games once more.

So, I'm wanting to build a Sleeper PC. I've got parts figured out for the most part, but one thing that has me stumped is how to utilize the old style rocker switches from way back when as a power button. Of course they were the actual 'power' switches, but now it's just an electronic switch that signals the PC to boot up from a dormant state more or less. Basically I need a way to make a rocker switch into a temporary switch, so that it does not shut the PC off immediately after getting turned on. If this is possible, I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks!

Hello. New to the forums. Have been wanting to do something either Small Form Factor or Sleeper and was just waiting to come across the right kind of "case". Ordered pizza one day and got there early, killed time by going into the Pawn Shop next door. Ended up buying a full 90's payphone for $49.99. Figured a Payphone would make a cool PC, could be mounted to the wall. After I get it home, I do some research and find out Payphones are basically bank vaults. 3 separate keys, 1 regular 4-pin lock, 2 vault locks and 1 high security lock. After correspondence with payphone.com, they told me basically my best bet was to buy a vault key, drill out the two other locks and buy new locks with working keys to replace them. So I ordered all of that and waited. When the regular lock and two keys came I happened to try one of the keys on my lock. It worked. With that key and the vault key, I was able to open the upper portion of the phone. When I opened it and started gutting the components from the phone, I found a key on a key ring inside. That key opened the high security lock and I was able to access the coin box(Only about $4.75 in there). So now I have a gutted 90's payphone that after measuring, will perfectly fit a Mini-ITX board with plenty of clearance for whatever. Here it is after I got it open...https://imgur.com/a/oeGZWkS So, before I start buying parts and cutting ventilation and a spot for the I/O, I wanted some ideas. There is so much space in this thing. I'm pretty sure I can wire the handset to be a Mic/Speaker for Skype/Zoom. I can add a camera on the front for video calls or for Windows Hello. The bottom silver square where the coin box goes I was considering a Pi4 with a touch screen for network monitoring or...anything. I don't know. I put together a barebones partlist for what I can make happen immediately, but can expand to anything eventually. I had this beautiful white with blue accents IBM case lying around for a while. It is a IBM 300GL from 1999, not that old but I just love the business, blocky design aesthetic IBM had prior the 2000's. Especially Aptiva and XT cases, these are among my favorites but they are difficult to find where I am and expensive indeed. Back to the 300GL, it still looks great, screams IBM all over the place and most importantly that is what I have available. This machine does not turn on, psu and motherboard are probably faulty, so I thought of migrating my Skylake pc inside of it to create an IBM sleeper pc stuffed with powerful components. I will keep the exterior as close as possible to the original, while inside I will do whatever is needed to fit modern hardware. Before I dismember this pc, I'll show you whats inside: Nothing too fancy here, just a Pentium 3 processor running at 450 Mhz, equipped with 256 MB of ram. Videocard is a first gen 3Dfx Voodoo graphics accelerator coupled with a S3 Trio 3D. A bit of a Frankenstein mismatch since the processor is from 1999 and the video compartment from 95/96. I have a better pc to run Win 98 games so it wont be too sad to disassemble this configuration. The only valuable object in my opinion is the Voodoo card, it still works nicely and I will save it for future builds. There is a shiny colored Windows 98 badge on the top panel. <3 Time to migrate the new hardware inside the case to see what works and what is not. My Skylake build consists of a 6700K @ 4.3 Ghz, 16GB of DDR4 ram, an Evga GTX 1070, a Corsair power supply with cablemod custom cables and a Noctua NH-u12s tower cooler. Here is how my hardware looks inside the IBM: Despite the case looking retro-ish on the outside, ti is pretty new in the inside and my ITX motherboard fits nicely in the original mounting holes, and the spacing for the IO shield looks alright. There is ample room for the gpu and the top cover of the case features some ventilation holes on the side to allow fresh air to cool the gtx 1070. As you can see from the two pictures above, the 3 main challenges atm are the too tall Noctua cooler, the too large power supply and the case airflow. Can't do much about the heatsink, I will need a shorter one. I tried to move the power supply around but I couldn't find where to place it without interfering with the 5.25 slots where I am planning to mount a blu-ray reader. The only solution I can think of is to replace my full size psu with a small form factor one. I might be able to keep my custom cables, looking at Cablemod's compatibility list, the cables I own should be compatible with the Corsair SP 600, a 600 Watts SFX power supply that should fit with the pre-existing mounting holes on the back of the case. Last but not least is the airflow. This case wasn't obviously built with high airflow in mind so I will need to mod it allowing extra fans to be mounted in the front and the back. Here a quick sketch of what I have in mind: I will need to cut out some metal and replace it with two new plates that will allow fan mounting. The 2 80 mm fans in the front should supply enough air to the gpu and motherboard area, while the 2 60mm fans will exhaust hot air on the back while keeping positive pressure inside the case. I designed the 2 plates with Inkscape and I will laser-cut them out from an acrylic panel. Here you can see a screenshot of the project, I will link it once I get the first batch shipped and tested. That is all for now, I will update this post as soon as I have new things to mount and make fit. Hope you are enjoying this story, stay tuned for more! =)

hello, I've been planning a sleeper build, no RGB, no fancy features, not even a case window, so I found this extremely old coolermaster case. https://www.newegg.com/global/jo-en/black-cooler-master-elite-350-atx-mid-tower/p/N82E16811119269 (it's actually the same case linus recommended for entry level budget in 2015), Would this case be able to handle a ryzen 7/5 for processor and something like a 2060 or 5700 for graphics, pc part picker didn't flag any incompatibilities and the wattage seems to be just enough from the included power supply. But I'm not sure about airflow and if the GPU would fit in it. Thank you,

Hello! I'm working on a sleeper PC project. First ever projekt of this kind for me I've bought this old rack chassis. It's full ATX so the motherboard and PSU has their place. My ideas are: Four small feet on the left side of the case, making is stand upright like a normal case Painting the inside white/black Cutting holes for the 360mm radiator at the new bottom of the case (I have checked and i CAN be there!) Replace the old fan with a Noctua 120mm (Using the same filter) Replace the drives at the front. Only changing them to ones with a sata/internal USB connection (I want them to work basically) Spraypainting the inside black/white No changes to the outside aesthetics Cutting a hole for two 40-50mm fans above the IO shield (I need a bit more airflow aswell as i can't make the serial port ort the three connections that's already closed work) Add a 3rd drive at the front. Just because: why not? Any other ideas? I need somewhere to put my 2.5" SSD. I have no HDD in my system. I've got one NVMe M.2 SSD for boot and one TB 2.5" SSD I would very much like to be able to use my cablemod cables in my new build And I have two LED strips, where should they go? Again: I'm new to this so let me know if any of this is wrong Spellcheck this pls?
