Intel's successor to Haswell-E and Broadwell-E, has been revealed, showing both KabyLake X and Skylake X being the replacements for the current X99 platform. Both KabyLake X and SkyLake X will use socket 2066, on the new Intel X299 chipset. KabyLake X tops out at quad core with hyper threading, 16 gen 3 pcie lanes, and has a TDP of 112w. SkyLake X goes up to 10 cores with hyper thread, 48 gen 3 pcie lanes, and a TDP of 140w. Some of you thought it would be around 3.5 ghz, whereas others believed it could be as high as 4.2 ghz. Well Anandtech, via PCGamer has now disclosed those frequencies: So it looks like the all core turbo for the flagship CPU is only 3.4 ghz, with the other CPUs having higher all core turbos. I'm not too sure but skylake x might support multi core turbo (I know that the mainstream Skylake S and Kaby Lake S platforms do), which would mean with a motherboard with multi core turbo enabled a 7980XE, for example, could turbo to 4.2. Though imagine the power draw if you did that...

I had been rocking my 2700k at 4.8GHz for the last 5 1/2 years. I wanted something with the same kind of clocks, but more cores. Along came Skylake X and I decided to give it a shot. My goal was 4.8GHz on all 8 cores being cooled by an AIO. I found success with the 4.8GHz on all 8 cores at 1.285v with temps maxing at 81c during a 2 hour Realbench stability test. This was with the help of a Silicon Lottery Delid. Before that I was stable at 4.7GHz @ 1.235v at the same temps. I just wanted to know everyone's thoughts on the matter, maybe start a discussion.

Ok so to start from the beginning... I inherited a core i9 7920x cpu on the way cheap recently which is great because I run a computer drafting business from home and I game alot, so cool beans have a 12c/24t chip. I bought a good motherboard to run it from, My entire PC specs are as follows: Core i9 7920x...............................CPU Asus X299 Strix E........................ Motherboard Nvidia Titan X pascal................... GPU 1 TB intel 660 SSD...................... Boot drive 2 TB seagate HDD...................... Storage drive 1200W EVGA Platinum SN..........PSU 280mm Corsair H115i platinum... Cooler 48 GB Corsair 3200 MHz DDR4.. Ram (6x8GB sticks running quad channel) Windows 10 64bit.........................OS As you can see, pretty beefy machine with some good quality components. I'm no stranger to PCs, Overclocking, tinkering, etc. Now the issues I'm having are overclocking. My temps stay under 85c even at 4.4 to 4.5Ghz across 12 cores, I've tried upper voltages, upping the Input voltage, messing with all of the external DIGI whatever settings and everything will be cool for awhile then BAM! out of nowhere a Whea uncorrectable or the PC will reset. Somewhere along the line there is something I'm not doing right. I've put AVX offsets on, Tried lowering it to 4.3Ghz, etc. etc. Now I know this sounds ridiculous, but could somebody please take the time to, (As said in the words of Denzel Washington) Please explain this to me like I'm a 4 year old. Step by step what voltages I should have, should I use Asus multi core enhancement, should I not? What are safe voltages, etc. etc. down to the nitty gritty so I can stabilize this thing. In short, what are the best recommendations? I have an X99 5960x PC, I've owned a X79 in the past, but this platform is little foreign to me. I know there are things about Skylake X that are different than previous HEDTs platforms. In advance, I appreciate everyone's comments. P.S. I had a thought that maybe the RAM is putting it out of whack because I have an odd number of sticks, 6 vs. 4 or 8, The manual says that technically I can do this but I'm almost wondering if I should have just left it at 4 sticks.

The story I did some pretty basic stuff on my PC. Just before it went to sh*t, I uninstalled some unnecessary software after a clean Windows 10 installation. And then suddenly, the PC powered down on it's own. It took me a while to figure out, but I found out that my CPU was the cause, not the MOBO I suspected to be the culprit. Anyway, I found out that my PC's processor overheated itself to abnormal levels. It starts quickly at 70 degrees celcius, then heats itself up to 99 degrees celcius in the matter of a half a minute, and then stays there. Now, even before and after I found out the issue, clearing the CMOS and everything else related to it, did nada nothing. I've tried booting from the second BIOS chip, and updating the BIOS even. But it still did nothing. And yes, before anyone asks, I put all the fans (except the top 3) to 100% fan speed, but it still heats up like all hell. Even doing a push/pull configuration on my AIO cooler did nothing. In the end, I wonder: Do I need to replace the CPU with another one, get a new MOBO, or what do I do in order to fix this? Oh yeah, by the way, I get postcode 00 for a split second before the PC powers down on it's own. It's been doing just fine with these parts. That's about it Would really appreciate some help from you guys. I'll provide a screenshot from when I tried to flash the BIOS that shows the temperature. Hey Guys. I am an intermediate/advance PC builder, so i apologize if i do not provide you with the adequate information from the start. This is my second build and I went to the enthusiast side of things with Skylake-X. Here is my build info X299 Xe Gaming i7-7820X NZXT Kraken X62 AIO ROG Strix 1080Ti Pahnteks Enthoo Case (Front covert is off for vent) ARCTIC MX-4 - Thermal Compound Paste I used a generous amount of thermal compound before installing the AIO. The system idle is around 38-44C....When Gaming (Overwatch, Desitny 2, Rocket league) it goes anywhere from 85-103C. I have checked Youtube and forums. All i can see is this board should be running cooler. Any idea what might be going on? Thanks in advance For your help.

Upcoming Intel Basin Falls X series platform has been revealed and it shows, both mainstream and enthusiast cpus will run on the same socket. From that slide, we can see it will be on socket lga 2066. Kaby Lake X, comes in at 4 cores max, with 16 gen 3 lanes, dual channel ddr4, and 112w tdp. Skylake X, is up to 10 cores, quad channel ddr4, 44 pcie gen 3 lanes, and a tdp of 140w. While kaby lake x is a mainstream cpu, using a enthusiast socket. On the actual mainstream side, Intel is still going to release Kaby Lake S, using socket 1151, also a quad core, with 16 gen 3 lanes, dual channel ddr4, but a lower tdp of 95w. It's interesting intel is relasing 2 types of kaby lakes, the X series, looks like intel is trying to get eveyone to the enthusiast side.
