Hey guys, so in the last 20 days, I got into my head to try and come up with a new custom case design. Not only to test my skills in SketchUp, as I haven't used it for years, but also to test and learn a bit more about pc case design. The idea came to me when I saw the Fractal Design Era case. and... I loved the case, honestly. It was simple, beautiful and sleek. No rgb, no glass or acrylic or any of those. It isn't to say that I dislike them, but I can overlook them pretty easily. But two things bothered me with it. Cable management was the first, the second was the airflow. So far, this is the base I've developed. A bit stuck in terms of outside design now but, what do you think? (Size is 162mm x 318mm x 359mm (WxDxH))

I was rewatching the moving vlogs from when the team moved into the warehouse and saw that they used a Google Sketchup model to lay out where everything goes so they could set it up easily. Is it possible to find this and take myself on a virtual tour?

Hey everyone, I'm currently a Landscape Architecture student with a few years left of undergrad and graduate school ahead of me. We use a wide range of programs from AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Sketchup, Rhino, Lumion, Unity and Unreal Engine. The last two I'll be getting into this year with VR becoming a big part of our industry and being chosen to participate in a one week VR boot camp. I've been doing a lot of research in the past few months about these programs and what benefits them. From some programs favoring higher clock speeds, others favoring more cores, faster single thread performance, higher RAM speeds, and GPU's it's gotten a little confusing. I'll throw it out there I've never built a PC before but I feel I've gotten quite a good understanding. From understanding motherboard chipsets, vrms, nvme and m.2, etc. I've got a good understanding of everything that goes into a build. I guess the hardest part is picking the best hardware. I'm definitely open to any opinions you all have as I'm sure most of you have first hand experience with these programs how different hardware performs respectively. So please leave any recommendations down below. My goals for my build are: Budget CPU Cooler Motherboard RAM Storage GPU Case Power Supply Thanks for taking the time to read all of this! I'd love to hear any feed back or tips with the best hardware for these programs. Cheers

Hi, so my girlfriend is studying architecture. She always tell me that the computer she bought is to slow and take too long making renders. She use Sketchup, Vray for Sketchup, Autocad, Revit, photoshop and illustrator. The thing is that here budget is $1800 USD. I found this build in https://www.logicalincrements.com/articles/building-pc-3d-rendering-animation, but im not sure if is going to work well enough too justify the price. CPU: AMD R7 3700X Graphics Card: RTX 2070 Super Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite RAM: 32GB Dual-channel DDR4 Storage 1: 500GB Samsung 970 EVO M.2 SSD Storage 2: 4TB Toshiba HDD Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G3 CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock 4 Case: Fractal Design Meshify C Operating System: Windows 10

A friend of mine is having some issues with his work-PC (laptop). He's using programs such as Solidworks, Vray, Sketchup and Unreal engine. While using these his PC is slow and crashes a lot. It has a i7-6700hq CPU, 16GB Ram, GTX 970 (or better cant remember correctly). What I'm asking is this: What would be the best hardware to put together for a PC to run all these applications smoothly? What should be a priority hardware wise? Recomendations for a "budget build" and a "ultimate build" is apprecitated.

Hello! I recently finished a sketchup model of the custom pc case I'm building. I'm going to be getting some aluminum and steel laser cut to shape in the next few months, but to do so they need a vector file format of my design. How do I make one from what I have in sketchup? I know how to make a PDF or JPG image of what's currently on my screen, but I need a blueprint, basically, with dimensions and everything.

A friend asked me to buy him a laptop and he is an architect. I'm used to giving advice for gaming laptops and PC's but I don't know that much regarding professional applications and what do they need. He told me he will be using Adobe Illustrator, CORELDRAW, AUTOCAD, SKETCHUP, and REVIT. The laptop must be around 800 to 1k USD. I will be buying it in Mexico. Maybe some Amazon laptops from the US will be available to ship here, but the prize will rise. Preferably a 15´ inch laptop, and no touchscreen is needed.

Hello people! I am working on a system for a client which should be heavily optimized for SketchUp and VRay. The initial budget was 2000€ but the client knocked it down to 1500€ later. I already had a proposed first version done which was a true workstation build found here. The machine is intended to be only used for work. Nevertheless, first thing I did was downgrade from ECC memory and to a budget chipset. The current version of the build can be found here. I would love recommendations on whether to downgrade RAM, CPU or GPU for this specific application. Or heavier rebalancing if needed. Kind regards! Budget (including currency): 1500€ Country: Austria Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: SketchUp, Vray Other details: First version Initially downgraded version Two monitors shall be used with this build. Recommendations for cheap monitors for CAD work are welcome! Wifi onboard would be a plus. Buying as soon as possible. So in-stock parts would be best.

Hi all! I'm building a PC for a relative who is a self-employed architect. They do all of their own 2D and 3D rendering on software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup and other 3D software I forgot the names of. I've put together a few builds, however I have a few questions that should have simple answers: 1. GTX 1070 or P2000? (In Australia the P2000 = $595, GTX 1070 = $650) 2. Say I have 1 system with two graphics cards: A GTX 1050 and a P1000. Will the 3D software (if any or some) use both cards, or only the one that provides better performance? Many thanks!

hello has anyone followed taran's guide to setting up macro keys? because I have a problem where he is using his for premier I want top use mine for sketch up just so that I only need to press one key and can label them so that i remember. but I can't seem to get only one keystroke when I try and set a function for a key (this is bad because sketch up can only use 2 keys in a combination), if i press shift as fast as i can it will still say it is 2 key presses therefore putting down 2 shift which then i need to restart mapping that key. if someone know how to fix this that would be great. If I am just stupid and haven't realized that I need to do other stuff to get it working please tell me but my thinking is that I programe the keys then when I open sketch up and I press that key that it will just execute the key stroke? am I wrong in thinking this? someone please help.

Hello guys I was working on a big project and I have had noticeable lag while orbiting around the model, I checked CPU usage it was only 13% checked ram it was only 50% and the GPU was at 1% so why was sketchup lagging? I also run the model off an ssd to speed up open times. If anyone knows why this issue occurs I would love to know.

The idea: After watching a few DIY desk pc videos on YouTube, I kind of wanted to try building my own as well. It's getting cramped in my case anyway, and I can't find another good looking case online that has at least 2 frontal 140mm fans, and 2 5.25" bays as well. Personal taste: After messing about in a 3D modelling program called Google SketchUp, I eventually came up with something better-looking. There's still some things to be done, but I'd like to hear people's thoughts. I'm trying to make a DIY desk pc that has a industrial look to it if possible, or a more modern and sci-fi looking one. Also, like Linus did in a DIY desk pc project of his own, I may paint the table/build black as well, since that's my personal taste. Extra notes: If anyone has something to add that might look good on it for a industrial/sci-fi looking desk pc, I'd appreciate suggestions. I have a glass panel I want to add on top, but I'm waiting until I have a better idea of what to add to this build. Didn't really plan this, just making up stuff as I go along. Here's some pictures. Top panel. Custom designed glass panel will be lying on top. Not yet designed in SketchUp. Anyway, I thought of mounting a NZXT HUE+ between the drive bays and HDD's, just saying. By the way, since it'll be easy to see the cables, I thought of laying them down like this, close to each others: And to hold the cables down, I thought of using these if I can find them: Front panel. Parts: Power switch, Reset switch, 5.25" DVD-RW, 5.25" USB and Audio input, 120mm fan (air in) Left side panel, with easy access to I/O. Parts: Motherboard I/O, graphics card video output, USB 3.1 PCIe x2 extension card, 140mm fan (air in) Real panel with cutout by 10cm for airflow. Parts: ATX power supply unit, 2x 120mm fan (air out) Right side panel. Parts: 140mm fan (air in) NOTE: I thought about trying to center the fan, but it's not visible in the model as SketchUp messed up this side panel when making the hole. Bottom panel. Parts: ATX power supply unit NOTE: This hole is not final. It'll be cut out more properly the desk (may) be built. The I/O panel. With some custom desk pc builds I've seen people make, they often don't make a hole with easy access to the motherboard's I/O panel and other parts that may sit in the PCIe slots. For my use, I kind of need easy access to this area, as I often plug things either in or out. Even if I didn't, it's annoying when a cable starts malfunctioning and needs a replacement, but isn't easy due to the horrible access. With that said, I'd like to hear what you guys in this forum have to say. Ideas and suggestions are very welcome, as I want to make the design look better. Thanks in advance. ^-^

Can anyone recommend a good extension for rendering in SketchUp? Also can anyone recommend any other extensions that I can create emissive light objects(i.e. a light bulb or a single LED)? Thanks in advance!

Shopping for laptops that can serve as portable workstations is painful. Especially when you're not the one who's going to end up using them - and you have some specific requirements. So here's why I'm here! A friend of mine, who's an interior designer, wants to get a portable (workstation) laptop (max. 2000 EUR) for the following: AutoCAD Sketchup Revit (Puget link too) Lumion Since I've never used them before, I had a look at the recommended specs, all hyperlinked. With the exception of Lumion, GPU doesn't seem super important. Laptop GPU's at this price point are trash imho, except for the 2060. I haven't included Quadro's* Laptops I've found that I deem worthy of a buy have the following specs (prices are in EUR): 1. i7-9750H & 2060 - 2K 2. i7-10710U & 1660 - 1.7K 3. i7-10510U & MX 250 - 1.5K (not so much, honestly) I was thinking of looking at the Studio / Creator laptops, but those are over 2K EUR, same as older workstation laptops. I am still curious to see what recommendations you have, even at a 2.5K EUR budget, perhaps my friend can make the extra step, since the laptop will produce money (no shots fired, gamers). Let me know what recommendations you have and drop some laptop models. Please use US (good for reference), NL or DE websites. * The person wants the laptop to be light and portable and the laptops equipped with Quadro's weren't light, nor particularly cheap (in The Netherlands / Germany). I did find some Quadro P620 laptops, but those don't seem to be great performers. ** Revit (and Puget) both make the case for Quadro cards and Revit offers official support for Quadro P2000 cards, so it really drives me nuts I can't find something under 2K with those specs around here.

Hi. Can anyone tell me how big a i7 6700k CPU is? I am trying to make a 3D model and I am looking for the exact dimensions for this CPU. Thanks!

Starting school soon, and I need a laptop for Sketchup. I know a little bit about computers (I have built and upgraded a highish end gaming PC over the last year), but I'm sort of stuck on this one. Used is fine (sort of preferred since I'm only using this thing for a year), and I can do upgrades like RAM and an SSD. I know that CAD is fairly resource intensive, but other than that, I'm sort of lost. Sketchup does require OpenGL support. Not exactly sure what that means...... I have a friend that runs it on a fairly low end AMD APU, but with a little bit of a budget, I would like to get something a little more powerful (I hate performance issues). Any suggestions would be great, or just more info that can help me to be better informed while researching. Hope everyone is have a great weekend. Thanks for any help!

Hi guys!!! I'm going to upgrade my CPU from Intel Pentium G3240 to these 3 choices: 1. i5-4690k - $244.72 2. i7-4790 - $307.31 3. i7-4790k - $346.29 I currently have the following Motherboard - Asus H81M-K (yeah. like a very cheap motherboard) Memory - Kingston HyperX 4GBx2 1333 or 1600 (I forgot) SSD - Kingston SSD v300 120GB HDD - 40GB Hard Drive from my PS3 ( I lost my 1TB Western Digital Blue because of ant infestation, DAMN YOU ANTS!!!) GPU - Sapphire r7 265 PSU - FSP AurumS Gold 600W I'll be using mg PC for Gaming plus Lumion, Google Sketchup + Vray, CAD, 3DS Max. My questions are: 1. Which CPU should i get? 2. if the i7 K, is the K worth it?. 3. Will my motherboard be a problem ? Thanks everyone!!

Hey guys, i´m new to Google SketchUp and been watching several tutorials in the past days. Though, i still don´t really know how transfer this drawing to Sketchup in 3D. I want the fan cutouts to be a organic net-type of style sometimes found in modern architecture. Parvum Systems mATX case with drawing: Modern architecture: Do you have any suggestion on how to do that? I know a similar tool from photoshop which would allow that. It´s called anchor poin tool. Thanks in advance SQZY

I've downloaded SketchUp, and I am stuck at a place where I do not know how to separate a face from the rest of the object. Please help, thanks! When I try to pull a face away from the rest of the object, the whole object gets twisted!
