*After replacing the old cpu cooler, the OS does not recognize the ram installed on the left slot and when I checked CPU-Z, it shows that I am running on a single channel even though I installed two sticks of ram on both my ram slots. Is this an OS problem or perhaps my left ram slot is at fault? Also when I only put ram on the right ram slot it boots but when i put it on left, it does not boot.*

I currently have 2 8GB 3000mHz sick in my board and I'm looking to upgrade. Would I see any benefit from adding two of the same sticks over replacing them with 2 16GB sticks (excluding price differences and specific brands/models of RAM sticks. I mainly want to learn more about the whole 4 slots, 2 channels, gotta put the sticks in the right slots, etc). I think it's obvious by now, but I'm fairly new to the PC building space. Thank you!

Ok so here's the story. For about a year or 2 I have been running my pc with 20gb of ram 2 2gb sticks of 1600 ddr3 from corsair and 2 8gb of 1866 ddr3 of hyperx. I was looking at my speeds and it's been throttling them I think to around 1200 I'm not quite sure how they work it's reading around 600 on cpuz and it mentioned doubling them?.... I wanted to remove the 2gn sticks and leave just the 16gb for a hopeful increase in speeds and leave it open for a hopeful upgrade. If I leave the sticks in formation c2 c2 h8 h8 it boots like normal. If I remove the corsair memory and align them as seen in videos at 0 h8 0 h8 I see board start but it never goes to the bios screen so I can change things it just stays black. I'm assuming it's not posting?..... I'm very unsure of how to proceed. I've just been replacing the array until now that I'm off for the weekend. Any help is appreciated.

Hey everyone, after fighting BSODs for a while, I think that either a DIMM or a RAM slot is broken. No BSODs while using slots 2 and 4 (going from CPU socket), immediate BSOD while using slots 1, 2, and 4, and (so far) no BSODs using slots 2, 3, and 4 with the same sticks as before. So either way, I can't populate all slots, either because a slot is dead or a RAM stick is dead. I have a matching set of 4 8GB GSkill Aegis 3000MHz sticks. I'd much rather have 24GB than 16GB, obviously - but other posts are quite ambiguous on whether this is a good idea, generally advising against mixing and matching RAM (which I wouldn't be doing) or mentioning that it'd run in single channel. So my question would be if this would be a good idea stability wise, and whether it'd actually run in single channel. Buying a new motherboard isn't a very attractive option, as I'm running a Ryzen 1600 and wouldn't want to inveset in a dying platform - B550 doesn't support it afaik, and I might upgrade once GPU pricing becomes reasonable, so throwing money at a mobo that I might run for a year or so doesn't seem great. EDIT: Before anyone mentions it: I'm running the RAM at 2133MHz to make sure the BSODs weren't from the RAM being too fast. I know first gen Ryzen doesn't like that very much.

Long story short I had 4 sticks of RAM in my build and one died. My question is would it be better to run 2 of the sticks, total of 16GB, in duel channel mode or run all 3 working sticks, 24GB total, in single channel? Alternatively am I incorrect in assuming that by having a third stick in slot B1 or B2 it would cause the sticks in slot A1 and A2 to run in single channel?

This is my cousins pc. We tried everything we could in msconfig, regedit, paging. When we go into the bios, the motherboard recognizes both dimms but it says that 8gb physical memory is available. Similar to this, when we insepct system info windows shows that the loaded total physical memory is 16gb but then it says that total physical memory is 7.95gb and shows only 5.89gb of that as useable. Specs: CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 Ram: hyper x fury 8gb DDR4 2667mhz (x2) Motherboard: MSI A320m pro-5 edit: just to be sure we put his ram sticks into my motherboard and they worked just fine. 16gb physical, 16gb usable etc..

Hi there! currently, I have a 16GB RAM kit (2x8) in my Asus Z390a Motherboard running an Intel i7 8700K at Stock speeds. The original plan was to upgrade to 32GB by swapping the current RAM kit to a 32GB RAM kit (2x16GB). But what about mixing these two kits in order to have 48GB? Would the whole system run in single channel, or do you get like one kit running in dual channel and the other one in single channel or both in dual channel? Looking at the specs, they do match in Clock speeds.

Hello everyone. I've been watching Jayztwocents video on how to overclock a RAM , You just go to BIOS and change the xmp disabled to profile 1 and change the Frequency of the Memory. I own a 1x8GB HyperXFury DDR4 Single Channel setup but I'm so curious after I did that change on the speed It still says Memory Bandwith DDR4-2666 (1333MHz) on CPU-Z. Did I overclock it already? or I still need to do little more steps? lemme know here's the picture.

Quite simple question, what would be the "best" (if there even is a difference) Quad, Dual or Single Channel RAM? If all ran at same clocks and timings would there be a difference? (except you can easily upgrade with Single/Dual assuming there is 4 slots on the mobo).

Hey guys! I went to a tech server on Discord, and then i said i thought single channel RAM is as useful as dual channel for gaming purposes... When everyone started to insult me and call me dumb... Anyway, i went to Youtube to search, and all i've found was some comparison videos where as far as what i noticed, the difference between 1x8Gb VS 2x4Gb was almost if not completely null in more than 8 games. Then i searched and some ppl said it helped the CPU A LOT but i didn't find that much evidence, only a slight performance improvement for editing softwares and all. So, which one is better for gaming? Also, is there anything where dual channeling humilliates single or not? And i have an extra question: I bought an 8Gb stick a long time ago bcs i wasn't paying much attention to RAM so i didn't bother buying a kit, but now i kinda want to upgrade it for literally no reason. Did i mess up? Do i have to buy a kit or can i just buy another equal 8Gb stick, put it on the slot and proceed to use 16Gb "dual channel" just fine?

Hey i am somewhat of a tech noob, i have 2 4gb sticks of dual channel ddr3 ram in my pc now, i have 2 old sticks of the same ram ddr3 i think its the same speed, if i threw in the 2 sticks of single channel ddr3 ram would i face any easy major issues? I have a gtx 970, i5-4690k, and a gigabyte z97 gaming 3 motherboard

My spec: CPU :Ryzen 5 1600 stock speed GPU : Sapphire Radeon rx580 4gb Ram: Ballistix Elite 8GB 2666mhz Single stick -- running at 2666mhz Motherboard : Asus PRIME B350M-K --- https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/PRIME-B350M-K/HelpDesk_QVL/ Right now i am experiencing lacking performance when it comes to gaming on this system. The only possible solution i have found is that my single channel ram is bottlenecking my system. For example: CSGO -- dipping to 100 frames and not reaching 300 on low settings 4:3 (I understand that csgo cant use all the cores etc. but i still see several ppl getting 300+ frames on the same build) R6 -- mostly low settings 1920x1080 res and not getting more than 160fps and dipping into the low 100's. I was wondering if that could really be the case. I have found a possible upgrade (considering my budget) . https://www.amazon.com/G-Skill-PC4-24000-3000MHz-Platform-F4-3000C16D-16GISB/dp/B01IW7Z66U This ram kit got really good reviews from buyers and every local shop rates it good. I was wondering if my motherboard supports it and is my cpu compatible with it. And does upgrading to dual channel will really give me better performance and if so is there any way to say by how much?

Hi, I heard in a video a while ago that to run memory in dual channel configuration we need a special kit which is specifically programmed to work with each other like hyper furry x etc. Few days ago I red Qoura & some reddit posts where argument was that you can run two different brands & speeds memory in dual channel configuration but that might cause system instability & crashes. Now I have installed 2 memory modules one is corsair ddr3 4GB 1600mhz & other is some unknown 1GB 1067mhz then I checked cpuz & in memory tab it said dual channel. so my question is if I install two different brands 8GB modules with same speed 1600mhz (not considering timing) & if system stable as well & cpuz says dual channel so am I really running in dual channel configuration? & if I am then is it as good as kit(same speeds & same timings)? I mean the whole concept is to use 2 64bit wide bus parallel.

So basically I have one stick of 8gb ram running single channel on a z270 motherboard. I want to buy another 8gb stick so that they can run dual channel at 16 GB. Can someone link me a ram stick preferably from Amazon that will do the trick? The ram config is in the image below from cpuz.https://imgur.com/a/CS3gMSV

I recently upgraded to Ryzen 5 3600X and while I was installing my old 2133MHz RAM I noticed that the B channel didn't work so I had to put up with it running in single channel. I brushed it off as it just being a Ryzen thing and ordered a set of 2x8GB Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 (3200MHz 16-18-18-18-36 1.35v) which arrived today. When I went to install them I noticed that my system still didn't post with them in the dual channel position and they're currently in single channel (A). Specs: Ryzen 5 3600X 2x8GB CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 (3200MHz 16-18-18-18-36 1.35v) RX 580 8GB CX750M PSU Asus Prime X570-P Things I tried: Trying every stick in every slot; both sticks work but only in the A channel. Trying both sticks in every possible combination; only both of them in the A channel worked. Extra info that might help: The motherboard has 2 12V CPU power connectors, one for a 4+4 cable and another 4. I currently only have one cable for the 4+4 connector, maybe the other connector provides extra power for those things? Another thing I want to ask is, does it really matter that much? I live in Mexico and having to return things in here is way too much work so if the real world performance difference isn't that drastic it might not be that big of a deal.

I'm having a PC with g4560 with 1050ti and a single 8gb ddr4 2400mhz stick. I'm noticing some severe dips in performance while gaming and my CPU and GPU don't even bother pushing for performance! I monitored utilisation while playing Paladins and my cpu and GPU were around 60% and 30% respectively! My fps were dipping to 55 straight from 150. I'm thinking to upgrade memory but I just want to fix the dips so I'm wondering to buy another 4gig stick which is identical in every way except the capacity of my existing 8gig stick. Will it work? I really want a SSD too that's why I'm tight on budget. So I'll rather have an ssd+4gig stick instead of the 8gig stick if the performance boost will be the same on eSports titles. PS I'm thinking to buy acer Helios 300 by the end of this year so don't consider the fps boost I may get on AAA titles. Just wanna fix fps on eSports titles like paladins, csgo & rainbow six siege

Hi everyone! Back in 2013 I bought a pc which was ensembled by a computer company. I want to upgrade it step by step (first GPU) and ran some benchmarks on it. When I opened CPU-z I discovered that my 2 stick of DDR3 ram 1600MHz were running in single channel. The people from the company placed the 2 sticks of ram in dimm 1 and 2 and not the, by msi (MOBO) advised, 2 and 4. I tried to place it in slot 2 and 4 and the pc did not boot. It also did not boot when I placed the sticks in slot 1 and 3. Both my mobo and ram should be capable of running in dual channel. Does anyone knows a solution to this problem? CPU: i5-4670(non k) MOBO: MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate RAM: CrucialBallistix Sport DDR3 1600MHz GPU: MSI GTX 770 2gb OC

Hi guys, so I want to get this laptop for work and gaming. I most likely won't even need to upgrade my ram, but in case I do, I was considering switching out the 8gb SODIMM DDR4 3200MHz with either a 16gb or 32gb stick of DDR4 3200 MHz to bring the total system memory up to 24gb or 40gb. I have seen that this can diminish the dual channel memory benefits because there is 8gb soldered to the board. I guess I have a couple questions. And please forgive me if these seem really simple. I'm still learning. Will 16gb of my ram still work in dual channel if I upgrade? For example, if I put in a 32 gb stick, will 16gb work in dual channel and 24gb work in single channel? If all 40gb of my ram in the above scenario is single channel. What will the real world consequences be? I will mostly be using this for gaming and CAD work. Thanks for the help.

Hello, I was wondering if I would be able to swap one of my 4gb crucial ram sticks and put in an 8gb one of the same brand. Would this have any complications? Please tell me. The models of both ram are: Crucial CT8G4DFD8213 8 GB and Crucial CT4G4DFS8213 4 GB Both can be found on Amazon UK. Kind regards, Willem Dyas
