Hello peeps, I am looking for some suggestions and advice on what laptop specifications are more suitable for computer graphics simulations and rendering? My interest is focused more on the CPU and GPU. The reason I am asking is because I work remotely as freelancer ranging from 3D generalist to cinematics, and physics simulations, or frankly any task given from the client. When I am not able to access my desktop machine I would rather rely on a machine that can be ready for the task. I am not interested in the name of the brand so long as it's reliable and durable. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Cheers!

Budget (including currency): around 4-5000 € Country: Italy Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Primarily physics simulation (and possibly games of the like of Witcher 3, Cyberpunk, Elder ring etc). Most of the simulations runs on 2-4 threads. At some point I will venture in the realm of GPU-based simulations Other details: Peripherals are also needed (monitor, keyboard and mouse). Not really an expert monitor wise, and I accept to compromise on it for now with the possibility of upgrading in the future. Also, about 50% of the usage will be done remotely. For the operating system, I would stay on Windows, using something like WSL to connect in ssh and actually run the simulation program. Ideally memory start from 32GB. Any advice on the actual components? I'm really a noob when it comes to hardware. Thank you for any input!!

hi every body, i finally decided to make my own pc, I work in the 3d industy, but I want to become a game developer. this is my first post. I searched in many places to build my first PC but i didn't have the income that i have now. so i was teasing me to get an extra money, first i was ignorant ( and i still am) that i think the expencive, the better y evrey aspect. I understood that it doenst mean it. but I stiil doesnt know wich tools or part are the better to make it work properly the softwares I use and play all the games that reaquires decents builds. the softwares I use almost all the time are. maya (i usually work with animations, VFX, particles and dynamic simulations), Iray, Vray, unreal engine, adobe photoshop, after effects and premiere, substance design and painter. and the last one is zbrush. also want it for gaming and VR. I ask your assistance and if you could tell me the specific parts needed to keep it smooth. I will be grateful. I already got my monitors and my Peripherals. my current computer is a DELL xps L521X, I got it 5 years ago I'm from mexico, my budget is $100,000 MXN , but if something specific really work better, it could grow to $110,000 MXN

Okay, so, school is back in session for me and I need help finding the right laptop for college. I'm a third year mechanical engineering student and up until now I've not needed a laptop for school because I've done everything on my pre-built pc at home. But as a junior, my degree program now requires me to have a laptop or a tablet pc, and I'm not confident in picking out/building one because I've never done anything of the sort before; pre-builts have been enough for me until now. Luckily, my university has graciously provided minimum requirements for the machine so I'm not completely lost on where to start. Their requirements are: Processor --- Intel Core i3 2.2 GHz or faster; AMD with SSE2 support; 64 bit operating system Memory --- 8 GB minimum Hard Disk --- 256 GB or higher; solid state drives (SSD) preferred Screen Size --- Any screen size greater than 14” is acceptable. Separate video card recommended. Network Hardware --- Laptops must have the necessary WiFi hardware to access the college's wireless network Operating System --- Windows 8.1 or higher (don't care, we're going with Windows 10) Software --- Able to run programs such as Solid Works, AutoCAD, MATLAB, etc. They also recommend that it can convert to a writing/drawing tablet so that the student can take handwritten notes, annotate electronic documents, and hand-draw schematics on the computer screen. With this in mind, this puts what I need around a Dell Inspiron 14 5000 2-in-1... I think (I believe I read that the 5000 has a base clock of 1.8GHz... le shrug). But I personally want something beefier than the specs above. What I would like is a machine with at least 16 GB ram, a dedicated graphics card, an core i7 or AMD's whatever, a screen larger than 14 inches (I think 14" would be too small), a 512+ GB SSD, and the ability to use it as a tablet would be a great bonus but is not necessary. But I can't seem to find anything that fits these criteria that doesn't make my wallet hurt (I'm budgeting for ~$1000, but I can go over a little). I'm also getting tangled up on all of the finer details, like what's the difference between / would it be worth it to go for an CPU higher than an i3 and do I really need to be picky about the clock speed and core count stuff; the Dell mentioned something about Optaine, what does that do and do I need it; is there any other cool features out there, hardware or otherwise, that I should be looking for; and is what I think I need overkill compared to what I actually need? Or is a Dell Inspiron 14 5000 2-in-1 just what I'm looking for,and more importantly, need?

Okay so on this video The part at 2:36 This part is just amazing, that kind of mechanic is just great. My questions are as follows: 1.Why can't we have these kind of animations in games like battlefield? 2.Would it be possible to have every single object in a game destructible like this one? 3.How well would 2 1080 TIs perform on such a game? 4.What kind of math is used to create these animations? 5.What is the problem really? Why would we not be able to have these games now, what if you built like a mega big GPU or something? Would that work then ? How well

Hello! I'm building a system for working at home on mathematical/physics computations and data analysis for my PhD. I've never build a PC before as I'm not a PC gamer and used to work on a Laptop that is not up to my current workloads. This is essentially my first build. Budget: My budget is 800€ ± 50€. Aim: Secondary* workstation for mathematical/physics computations, data analysis and some home use. *All the big models and very demanding work will run on a data center. Monitors: The system will be used on a dual monitor configuration of 2x(1680x1050) with DVI and D-sub inputs. Notes: The system will be running on a Linux Distro, specifically a modified version of Ubuntu with the latest Kernel for better Skylake support. Kernel 4.3 is aimed to bring better and stable(?) skylake compatibility, fingers crossed and let's hope for a quick release. By your experience are the other components compatible with Linux Distros and which of them are most likely to give some problems? As per the Dual Monitor configuration, if the CPU integrated graphics are a bit buggy can the Motherboard integrated GPU operate independently of the CPU graphics? The budget is prohibiting for a high end GPU at this time but will be installed later as well as a better case and the RAM will be maxed to 32GB, hence the 750W psu. I went with skylake and DDR4 cause I think it will be more futureproof/upgradeable than the previous generations. Also the price is very appealing opposed to other i7s. Overclocking is not in my mind as I prefer a stable system than an slightly quicker one. In a scale of 1-10 how good is the system given the 850€ budget? Hey all, I'm currently researching new semiconductor materials for (eventual) use in computer and related technology (additional applications include solar cells, LEDs, optoelectronics, etc). However, my knowledge of computers is limited to what an entry level computer technician would know; I can build computers, work with peripherals, and explain how different parts of a computer work about 1/2 as well as Linus can, but that isn't sufficient for my work. What I want to know is, does anyone here bridge the gap on that knowledge base? Going from fundamental semiconductor knowledge to computer semiconductor technology? I really feel like I could improve my direction in research materials science if I knew how my semiconductors applied to RAM/Cache/bus speeds/processors/etc. Because my eventual goal would be to take something like the current cost prohibitive cache systems and make them as cheap as standard RAM (not entirely possible, but it can be much closer than it is). However, it'd be nice to hear someone say that it's actually worth the time. So do you think it is? If I could make a material that made cache 5-10 times cheaper, would we dump that much more memory on processors? Or is there another reason in addition to cost that it's prohibitive to just drop memory on the processor directly? I'm just as happy to hear that it's not going to make a significant improvement in tech, because that means I can move on and spend less time on the topic. But in general, I'd like to start some materials science talks here on what materials go into each computer component and why they're selected! I think that would be an awesome topic here. Cheers! I've been a long time fan of simulation games, especially building ones. Lately i've been throwing hundreds of hours into things like Prison Architect, Space Engineers, Banished, Towns, etc. Problem is, ALPHA builds and indy games like Banished (grumbles something about an unfinished Towns game) have a somewhat limited amount of content. I've thought of revisiting games like Towns and Caesar 2 but hoping someone from the LTT forums could toss a few more suggestions to the list, as many good indy games can easily slip past a potentially interested audience. Anyeone wanna talk about workstation GPUs and Desktop/gaming GPUs. I wanna hear your unbiased thoughts about the two types of GPUs and in the workstation market, the advantages of Nvidia and AMD and maybe you can even talk about Linu's latest build, where he used both variety of GPUs? and yes I do need a workstation style GPU as I am a CAD designer first, gamer second. It will greatly appreciated, fellow Canadian and an engineering student. I am a part of a school SAE team. I am responsible for designing the Diffuser for the car, and possible more components in the future. I want to run Ansys, to do Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation inorder to get the best design. I havent invested in a GPU and was waiting for this moment, so I can get what I need. Whats something good that I can get, that under 1000 dollars, maybe a little over? maybe something that is around 500 dollars, that I can crossfire or SLI? Can I get a R9 290, and a FirePro, and cross fire those, will this be better? as according to numbers, the R9 is pretty up there with the over 1500 workstation GPU. I also love gaming, that why I brought the 290 in the picture, but first priority is 3D CAD and simulations. Thank you in advance!!
