Hello, I've got a question. I have an ISP issued router and its decent, but im not satisfied. I want to buy a new router that is on sale, yet it doesn't have a sim card. My question is that whether is there a chance that I can somehow use this router with my sim card? Thank you!

Hello all, Long post, but I would really appreciate any help you can give. I am at a dead end. So due to locational restraints, my only viable option for a decent high speed connection is 4G/LTE. Presently, the best I can do is a 1.5Mb/s DSL connection. It's absolute trash at the best of times, and if more than one person wants to use the internet at a time, forget about it. So I recently switched to AT&T's unlimited data plan, which allows "unlimited" data usage to both mine and my fiance's phones (22GB per device per month before they start throttling speeds based on cell tower traffic). So far so good. We also added a third SIM card to the plan: This SIM would ordinarily go into their little mobile hotspot thingy that you can buy at the ATT store for $150. I didn't want to use this dinky little modem, so I purchased a more robust modem that has ethernet ports and options for future antenna expansion. The specific modem I purchased is the D-Link DWR-921. The DWR-921 had pretty good reviews. What research I did before I purchased the modem seemed to reveal that this was a solid unit that would do everything I needed it to. I could just pop in the SIM card, and I'd be up and running off of my 4G network. It wasn't as premium as some of the modems from Asus for example, but I didn't want to spend much more than $150 on this setup. Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/LTE-HSPA-ROUTER-DUAL-MODE/dp/B00BN36NMM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496330631&sr=8-1&keywords=d-link+dwr-921 Product page link: http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/products/dwr-921-4g-lte-router So I ordered from a UK vendor that I hadn't heard of before. They seemed legit and had a professional website. They were cool, and it only took about 3 days to get to Texas. There was some weird labeling on the box that was a little bit fishy (it said a different model #), but I have no reason to believe that I received a bootleg unit or anything like that. I assumed that this was kind of a warehouse surplus stocking type scenario. The unit powers up and detects a signal as it should. So I connect it to my PC via ethernet, and follow the instructions to set up the network. I open chrome and type in the IP address listed in the manual. This takes me to the D-Link router setup page. The same page that I assume all D-Link routers deal with. This is where things start to get weird: I don't have internet access yet. The internet icon in the lower righthand corner (Windows 10) shows the ethernet symbol with the yellow triangle, NOT the red X that you see when your computer is unplugged. I go through the setup Wizard, which prompts me to select the type of connection (4G), and then it asks me to set up a username and password, select encryption type, blah blah blah, standard stuff. After selecting "4G/LTE" for my connection type, it gives me the option to auto-detect my cellular network, or to manually enter all of the information. The auto detect feature does not seem to do anything for me, so I start filling out the options manually. It asks me to select country, and then carrier. So after selecting USA, I open the drop-down menu for carriers. They have a couple I have never heard of before, a bunch for T-Mobile, a few for Cingular (who was acquired by AT&T some 10 years or so ago), and an 'Other' option. It then asks for additional information such as 'Dial Up Number', which defaults to *99#. I have tried that as well as the phone number I see associated with the SIM card on my devices page on the ATT website. I still show 0% connection, and it is not even displaying that it detects a network at all. The signal light on the front of the modem is blinking orange, which I take to mean that it has a signal, just not a very strong one. BUT WAIT - There's more. So I called AT&T tech support, because I thought that the SIM might not be activated. The SIM card IS activated, but the IMEI number that they had associated with it was not the IMEI number of my router. I assume that the store tech just assigned it an obligatory one that was SUPPOSED to correspond with the mobile hotpot thing that they sell. So I give the tech support person the IMEI number printed on the bottom of my unit. They tell me that this is a 2G IMEI number! This makes no since to me, because the DWR-921 is definitely a 4g/LTE modem. Whatever. I tell them to go ahead and change it, just to see if it works. It does not. So I call D-Link customer support and make it to a tech services guy. He tells me that the D-Link DWR-921 is not an officially supported product (at least by their tech support), and that it is the sort of device that a phone company would provide to their customers. I don't know why this is, as this product can be purchased on Amazon, and can be found on D-Link's website (although the .uk site only, NOT the US website). So that's where I am right now... Did I just not do my homework well enough and end up with a modem that doesn't support AT&T's network? Is there a chance I got some weird bootleg unit (2G IMEI number????) or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have little to no networking experience, and I just want to play video games without spiking up to 500 ping. Thanks.

Hi, Ive just worked out why my phone has been crashing. When ever the sim card is in my Samsung Galaxy s7 it will crash on lock screen on startup. It also makes my phone unbootable without being plugged in. Also its not my physical sim card because it worked in my wifes s7 fine, without any issue. Any suggests or solutions would be great. Cheers.

Hi, A friend of mine is leaving for Canada for 5 months in a couple of days. She's taking part in the Erasmus program in Manitoba. What mobile carrier would you guys recommend to her? She'd obviously prefer a lot of data over a lot of free calls and free texts. Any advice would be helpful.

I just ordered a refurbished Galaxy S7 off Amazon, and since it hasn't shipped, I haven't been billed yet. I read in Linus' S8 review that the S8 locks to the carrier of the first SIM, and that he didn't appreciate this feature being 'carried over from the S7'. I did a little research, and found some sources saying this was the case with the S7, and that'll it'll lock to the carrier of the first SIM card I insert. Does the issue exist even when using a 'factory unlocked' phone? This is a complete deal-breaker for me, as I'm going to school in the US, but will need to switch my US SIM card with my original SIM from my home country every time I visit home. What exactly happens when you switch the SIM card out? Does it just not work? Do you have to factory reset the phone, losing all your data? I'd appreciate an answer.

Recently bought the Samsung Galaxy J8 off of eBay. Their is a stick on the top (see picture). Does it mean I have to make a call with a Southeast Asian Sim card first over 5 minutes, just so I can use my T-Mobile one? If so, that's seems absurd, what's the reasoning behind it?

Hi everyone. Just yesterday I got a new Honor 8x, and I thought it would be as simple as putting my (TracFone) sim card from my old phone (Honor 6x) in the new one. However, when I did this it showed that the card was detected, but it had no service. The phone is unlocked, and I usually have a strong 4G LTE signal where I live. Here is a list of things I have checked and done: *Make sure the sim card is active through TracFone *Confirm there is a known baseband version on the phone *Confirm there is a known IMEI of the phone *Rebooted the phone *Reseated the card *Confirmed the card works still on the old phone *Confirm that I am in an area of 4G LTE coverage *Confirmed that my carrier (TracFone) and my phone both use band 2 (4G LTE 1900MHz) * Tried a connection from different locations around my city After all of this, I decided to purchase a new TracFone sim kit to see if it would work. I attempted activating it with the "AT&T or GSM unlocked" card. I set it to transfer my old phone number, data, minutes, etc. I still have no luck, and this new sim card works in my old phone. Could anyone give any thoughts or help? Every time I contact TracFone's customer service, I'm hit with an hour of obvious troubleshooting just to hear them say, "Well, your sim card is active on our end, and you should have a strong signal. Please call 1-800-###-#### for more support with the code ######." I trust helpful strangers on the internet more than another hour of automated service. Thanks!

hello guys first of all im sorry about the way that im going to describe my today's topic, cause i really dont know so much about it. now , i had a friend who was providing a free internet service, which was fast (50mbps download , and 8mbps udpload aaaand unlimited) + super cheap , specially for me cause i pay 20$ per month for 4mbps d and 0.2mbps u (that's bad i know) so how he was doing that is by using some sim cards that he was getting form abroad (idk from where, and he was sandpapering them so you cant tell by the logo) , and he had a vps to provide internet to his clients using ssh tunneling something something with "http injector" or "openvpn" so i want to know how he knows the sim cards that could do that . and also how to set up that vps to provide the internet the sim !! can someone explain ? please guys i need your help here

So my fiancee is in Austraila on a WHV right now and on a farm. She has a very strange problem which I could not find a solution to.... She has 2 sim cards with her: Her German one (A) and an Australian one (B). One is in her Phone (1) and the other in her Tablet (2). As she was complaining about no coverage on her phone but on her tablet. I told her to change the sim cards expecting her phone simply not being able to get any coverage And now here is the weird part: A in 1 = Coverage A in 2 = Coverage B in 1 = NO Coverage B in 2 = Coverage Is there anything she can do to get coverage on her mobile phone using her australian simcard? Because we would really love to call each other on our phones. Any tests she can run? So far: She restarted both devices multiple time She changed sim cards several times She tried to manually/automatically select a provider/network on her phone but manually she can not chose anything and on "automatically" it changes nothing.

One time I had taken out and then replaced a sim card in an old phone I was getting ready to sell. I then received a phone call and I saw my old iPhone picked up the call, even though I was using my new phone. I was wondering if I could order a smart watch and just pop in one of my two older sims (with the same phone number) to get calls on the watch. I'm sure I'm mistaken but it makes sense to me. I ask this because I;m thinking of getting a smart watch and if adding 4g to it is that easy and doesn't add any extra charges top my plan then I'll want to do that.

Hi All! I own a Lenovo K6 Power as you can already tell, in which the Data functions were working without any issues. A few months back I started using 2 sims instead of 1. Since one carrier had faster internet and better connectivity than the 1st. Still using the 1st SIM for calling and 2nd SIM for data. Occasionally I would switch to the 1st SIM for data when my data pack was over for the 2nd SIM etc... So one fine day, I was switching back to SIM 2 (Sim I use for data) (Normally when you switch SIMs both deactivate and reactivate with new settings ie SIM 2 for Data). So while this was happening like usual it took a few seconds to switch SIMs in the midst of this I suddenly got a call... Which I was unable to answer till the buffering animation left my screen. When that did get over... Both my SIMS were set to EDGE 2.5 g when they were always recognised as HSPA 3G and 4G LTE for SIM 1 and SIM 2 respectively. Now I am unable to attain the speeds I used to, it is just barely usable now... I then tried the usual troubleshooting (Airplane Mode on/off, Deactivating / Reactivating SIMs, Swapping SIMs physically from their slots and Finally Rebooting...) Now when I recently tried doing the same my 2nd SIM which I usually use for Data appears as SIM Card Not Ready... However, when I individually insert SIM 2 it is read by the phone But still, whether I individually insert the SIMs or together the phone recognises both the SIM cards as 2.5g EDGE. They used to be HSPA 3G and 4G LTE. But now I can't use Data on my phone which is the major problem... Please Help

So here is my issue, I have ordered the BLU Studio X8 HD on Amazon(link: https://www.amazon.ca/BLU-Studio-Unlocked-Packaging-Compatible/dp/B01FS0AAZG/ref=sr_1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1472512295&sr=1-4 ) and I have also bought the $100 top-up from 7/11 which they have a deal(link: http://www.speakout7eleven.ca/prepaid-phones-promotions/free-sim-card ) which ends on August 31st where they also include a sim card and a $25 bonus if you buy before the deadline(but the $25 bonus must be activated online before the deadline). The Amazon order will arrive approximately on Sept. 7, which is well over the deadline, so I would not receive the $25 bonus. To activate the sim card(and to receive the $25 bonus), I need a phone IMEI, and my phone hasn't arrived yet, so I don't know the IMEI. Lucky for me, my friend has a Moto E, and would happily lend it to me to activate the phone. His phone is unlocked, and his current carrier is Public Mobile, his sim slot is micro. However, I've heard that on Amazon, my sim size for my phone is a standard sized sim, meaning that I cannot put my sim into his phone and put it back into mine. So would there be any problems with me using his IMEI to activate my sim card(but the sim card will never touch his phone and will be for mine), or should I just let that sweet-tasty $25 bonus go? Thanks for reading, have a nice day!

I got a Nexus 5X for Christmas, but when I put my sim card in none of my contacts were showing up. I have the option to import them, but I assume that means they'll be stored on the phone and I want them to be stored on the sim card so that I'll have them if I get a new phone. What can I do?
