  1. Hey peeps, Just wanna know you highlights or downfalls with the 5800X. I know about some of the caveats as listed in GBN's video and what not, But hey, is what it is. this includes things like, Silicon lottery, All core clocks, standard performance. P.s. Please don't mention anything about the 5600X/5900X, I know there strictly the choice of 90% of other 5th gen users rn.
  2. So I just got a gtx 1060 6gb and I am currently overclocking it. I am still overclocking it but as of right now, I can definitely get around 2100mhz.
  3. I've managed to overlock my Ryzen 1700 CPU to 3.9 ghz at 1.45 volts on an ASUS Prime X370-Pro and with a stock AMD Wraith Spire cooler. Does this mean I have a bad CPU, and have just becomee unlucky with the silicon lottery? Or is it because I need a better cooler? I say this because, i see loads of people getting 3.9 ghz at like 1.35 volts. Ideally i would like 4.0 ghz.
  4. Right I'm posting yet another question on the Ryzen 1700. (Hopefully the last) So I've come to the conclusion that I want to refund my Ryzen 1700. No matter what I do i can't get 3.8ghz stable with Prime 95 or ASUS RealBench. If the voltage is below 1.375 the PC crashes during stress tests, and if it's 1.375 or above the CPU overheats. So anything between 1.3 - 1.4 is unstable at 3.8ghz. I've played around with LLC and all sorts but nothing works. The best I can get is 3.7ghz and thats's a struggle because i have to set the LLC to level 5 else it crashes. Even with a better cooler I really doubt i can do much better. It looks like i'm one of the very unlucky few according to these stats from the 'silicon lottery'. Ryzen 7 1700 93% reach 3.8GHz @ 1.376V 70% reach 3.9GHz @ 1.408V 20% reach 4.0GHz @ 1.440V If you want to see the ram voltage, motherboard, cooler and other important info, check out my other question here, as i go into great detail about my setup and configuration. So the question is, should i try and return my 1700? Maybe i can try another Ryzen 1700 and maybe get a better overlock, or get my money back. And is this even a good excuse to return it? I bought it off Amazon if you're wondering. It may seem like i'm just whining which is a reasonable assessment, but i refuse to be fucked over, i don't even mind if I don't win the silicon lottery, i just don't want to lose it. Especially when I see everyone else around me getting 3.8ghz easily with the stock cooler. (And yes i do understand some people lie, but i've seen the majorty of people achieve 3.8ghz while doing the same stress tests as me) Your thoughts are greatly appreicated.
  5. Hi, So, I finally decided to test to see how well this chip overclocks but I think I got bad luck with this chip. I'm getting 77 degrees max with only a 1.1 core voltage setting and only a multiplier of 42 This is on an MSI z97 pc mate board with an i7 4790k cooled with a corsair h60. I mean, the h60 certainly isn't the best radiator but I expected to get to at least 1.25 before seeing temperatures like that. It gets to 1.25 on idle and stock settings (no overclock) just fine but I can see the chip thermal throttles down to 3.6 ghz on stock settings with prime95 running.. I've turned turbo off, I changed it to fixed instead of dynamic and only changed the vcore and multiplier.. nothing else. Am I doing something wrong, or did I just get bad luck with my chip? Is this really normal with an h60 at 1.1v? (the screenshot is of the prime95 test with the overclock max temp results not of the test without the OC)
  6. My build last January was my first build since the days before overclocking both on the CPU and GPU was dead simple (no K parts existed). I ended up with a 6600k that is stable at 4.6ghz with only a .05 overvolt on air (I can hit 4.7 stable but it requires more overvolting and heat than I like). Most 6600k's I can find online are only stable up to 4.4ghz and with a bigger overvolt. I'm guessing it was a silicon lottery winner. So just how common is it to get a good chip like this vs one that's average vs one that can't overclock for nuts?
  7. Silicon Lottery has just listed its bins for the AMD's Ryzen Matisse (Ryzen 3000) CPUs. Source: https://siliconlottery.com/collections/matisse Of note is that the bins are interestingly not too close to what people are reporting max OC'ing after AGESA updates: Silicon Lottery is topping out at 4.3GHz, while the minority seems to have been getting 4.5GHz overclocked. Also of note is that the voltages these CPUs were pushed to were not very high - being around 1.25V with 1.3 at the max. The lineup: 3700X: - 4.05GHz - 4.10GHz - 4.15GHz 3800X: - 4.2GHz - 4.25GHz - 4.3GHz 3900X: - 4.0 GHz - 4.05 GHz - 4.1GHz - 4.15GHz - 4.2GHz By the time I've posted, almost all of the options have gone.
  8. I'm gonna be upgrading my motherboard soon and decided to test the two Ryzen 1600s I have to see which one is a better overclocker. To be clear, I'm running pretty poor cooling (CM Hyper 212 EVO) so I'm not expecting there to be a big difference. I'd like to know your opinion on the quickest and easiest way to test the two CPUs while doing the fewest processor swaps possible.
  9. Looks like I’m stable at 5.1ghz 1.28v (1.379 in hwinfo) 85 degrees Celsius max temperatures on a thin 360 AIO (fractal design s36). Is this a silicon lottery win? I’ll share my other settings too. This is on an ASRock z390 taichi: cpu configuration: .performance boost: disabled .cpu ratio: all core .all core: 51 .cpu cache ratio: 43 .min cache ratio: 43 .avx ratio offset: 4 .long duration power limit: 4095 .long duration maintained: 128 .cpu core current limit: 255.50 dram configuration: .Just the XMP profile right now. No ram overclock yet. Voltage configuration: .cpu core/cache voltage: fixed mode. .fixed voltage: 1.28 .load line calibration: level 1 which is the lowest amount (opposite of how Asus works on that). So, static. .Everything else on auto. I stress tested with prime95 (custom setting, min fft: 12, max fft: 12 with version 26.6 as recommended by der8auer). I want to put this on a custom loop now.
  10. A few months ago, I received my Boyfriends decomissioned 5700XT as a gift to upgrade my rig. It's an AMD refernce blower card, but manufactured by powercolor (atleast the stickeron the blower tells me) I was experimenting with undervolting, because the temps were still to high imo, even after a thermal paste and washer mod. Settled on 1900Mhz @ 980mV with stock fan curve temps dropped why a whopping 20°C in average (max temps are around 85-90°C junction) and power draw got reduced by almost 50W under load (compared to stock settings). I basically lost no performance in gaming or benchmarks (~2% less fps in games, almost identical benchmark scores) People already told me that this undervolt was quite impressive and pretty aggressive for my card and suspected it to be a silicon lottery win i just ordered an Eiswolf 2 AiO for my 5700XT because the blower cooler sound starts getting annoying under load. Did some 3D mark timespy extreme runs and compared it to an older video from Jayztwocents My timespy extreme score was 5 points higher then his best manual OC in the video, despite my card running way under normal clockspeeds or voltage. So I was wondering. Is my card really a silicon lottery win? I want to follow up with testing my cards at the maximum I can OC out of it manually, using my Eiswolf 2, once it arrives (not trusting the blower to cut it) result.3dmark-result
  11. So due to accidentally killing an 8700k during some maintenance, I've upgraded to a 9900K on my Asus Maximus X Hero motherboard. I didn't overclock the old chip due to some overheating issues, which I now believe was due to Asus' auto core voltage setting after having the same-but-worse issue with my 9900K. The temperatures were spiking to 75c-ish for moments just when starting things like chrome or discord. The old 8700k wouldn't spike, but it wasn't shy at touching 95c under sustained load, the 9900k touched 100 and would throttle back. The issue seems to be that the chip was running at around 1.38v core at stock clocks with auto voltage. I've managed to get the voltage down to 1.27v and it's stable. Now I've tried to overclock it, but it seems i may have lost the silicon lottery, as I can't give it a modest 100Mhz bump to 4.8ghz (i am right in thinking it's stock at 4.7ghz, right?) without having to go over 1.3v and thus it turning into a furnace, and even then it's not stable. My cooling could be described as overkill, as it uses three rads of 420x45, 120x30 and 240x45 with a D5 at full pelt to cool the 9900K and a 2080 super. I'm looking for either confirmation of my suspicions that this chip is no overclocker, or some further things to try to get my chip to overclock at all. 5ghz would be nice, but i just want to see 4.8 to start with if possible. Any info asked for will be supplied, i just don't know what other info may be useful to know, as this is my first foray into overclocking at all.
  12. Hi guys, i recently got a GTX 1080 to pair with my Ryzen 5 1600, so i decided to OC it a bit with its stock cooler. I got it to 3.8 Ghz on all cores, ran AIDA64 for some hours and it did not crash. I did not change the stock voltage and it hits 1.25 V max at a max temp of 73C. Now i am wondering if i hit the silicon lottery or something, because from what i have seen 3.8 Ghz on stock voltage is pretty rare. Maybe i need to test stability for longer? Maybe my slow 2133 RAM helps in this case? Looking forward to hear your thoughts on the matter.
  13. Hi there, I'm new to CPU overclocking and i'm wondering if overclocking the memory can affect a CPU overclock in terms of stability. I also have some other related questions which i will ask at the end. So my setup is as follows: CPU: Ryzen 1700X Motherboard: ASUS Prime X370-Pro RAM: GSKILL FlareX DDR4-3200 16GB (8GBx2) CL14-14-14-34 1.35 Volt GPU: ASUS Strix OC 1080TI PSU: Corsair RM 850W CPU Cooler: Noctua U14S with Noctua 140mm fan Case Fan Config: 3 x 140mm front intake and 1 x 140mm rear outtake Case: Fractal Define S Latest BIOS version I've watched a few YouTube guides on ryzen overlocking and I've managed to get a stable overclock of 3.9 GHz with a voltage of 1.41250 volts. I ran three benchmarks with the results below: Cinebench: PASS with a max temp of 68°C (score of 1674) OCCT for 15 min: PASS with a max temp of 75°C ASUS Realbench for 15 min at 8GB RAM: PASS with a mex temp of 76°C It should be noted that I used the bios for this overclock and I was running with default RAM speeds which i believe is 2400 MHz, (I didn't enable the D.O.C.P profile in the bios). I also didn't touch any of the more advanced settings and just changed the CPU Core Ratio and CPU Core Voltage. So next i wanted to overlock my RAM to it's advertised speed of 3200 MHz with this stable CPU overclock. So this time I enabled the D.O.C.P profile and selected 3200 MHz for the RAM speed. And changed nothing else. I kept the same CPU voltage of 1.41250 volts. However upon re-running the three benchmarks again, cinebench passed but the other two didn't and crashed due to instability. So I went back into the bios and changed the D.0.C.P profile from 3200 MHz to 2933 MHz. And this time I managed to get it stable again, albeit with higher max temperatures as you can see below: Cinebench: PASS with a max temp of 71°C (score of 1703) OCCT for 15 min: PASS with a max temp of 77°C ASUS Realbench for 15 min at 8GB RAM: PASS with a mex temp of 80°C This is where the main question ties in. Can a higher memory overclock using D.O.C.P profiles have the potenital to decrease the stability of a CPU overlock? I also have three additional questions, that being; is 1.41250 volts a good voltage for a 3.9 GHz CPU overlock in terms of the silicon lottery, or is that rather high? As I've seen some people manage 3.9 GHz and beyond at lower voltages with the Ryzen 1700X. Is a max temperature of 80°C safe for a 100% CPU load benchmark? (Of course games will never have this impact on a CPU) And for the final question, is there any other tweaks or advanced bios settings I can use to possibly decrease the voltage whilst still maintaining a stable overlock of 3.9 GHz on the CPU or even 4GHz if I dare? I've heard of some settings such as Load Line Calibration for example. Any advice would be apprieated. Thanks, GR412.
  14. I've managed to overlock my Ryzen 1700x stable to 3.9 GHz at 1.41 volts but no lower. I tested stability by using the OCCT and ASUS realbench stress tests for 15 min, as well as playing games for a day. Details of my process and my setup can be found in my previous question here: I've also overlocked my RAM to 3200 MHz using the built in D.O.C.P profile and setting the DRAM voltage to 1.4, as well as other settings such as setting the LLC to level 2 and increasing the SOC voltage to 1.15. I found those other settings helped with stability by watching this video: I'm wondering what other peoples voltages are for a stable overlock on their Ryzen 7 chip, as i've seen some people claim to get 3.9 GHz or even 4Ghz at much lower voltages than 1.41V. It seems to me I may have got a little unlucky on the silicon lottery, unless i'm doing something wrong. I wouldn't even dare try 4GHz but i'm happy with 3.9 GHz despite what I think is a higher than average voltage.
  15. Hi there, I’ve recently tried to overclock my ASUS Strix 1080TI (OC Version) and I’ve managed to get an overclock on the GPU boost with +50 MHz and a memory boost of +400 MHz using ASUS GPU Tweak 2. Below are the settings I used based on this guide: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?93536-Strix-1080Ti-Overclocking-Guide as it recommends to increase the voltage to +100 and the power target to +120. GPU Boost Clock: + 50 GPU Voltage %: + 100 Memory clock: + 400 Power Target %: + 20 (to reach 120%) The issue is, this doesn’t appear to be a very high overlock with +50 MHz on the GPU boost, but I can’t go any higher without crashing. I’ve seen some people reach up to 100 MHz and beyond on the same card. I don’t know if I'm doing something wrong or is it simply the case of getting unlucky on the silicon lottery? The other thing is, even with this +50 MHz overlock, there doesn’t appear to be any performance gain at all on my games. I recorded pretty much the same FPS values before and after the overlock using built in benchmarks for various games. Could this zero performance gain be because the overlock is so small that it has no impact on FPS? Or could it be that GPU Tweak 2 is buggy and not actually applying the settings even though I can see the GPU clock reach a higher value than the default clock on HW-Monitor? Should I try another program like MSI afterburner? Or could it be something else? If it helps here are my system specs: CPU: Ryzen 1700X (overclocked to 3.9 GHz) Motherboard: ASUS Prime X370-Pro RAM: GSKILL FlareX DDR4-3200 16GB (8GBx2) CL14-14-14-34 1.35 Volt (running at 3200 MHz) GPU: ASUS Strix OC 1080TI PSU: Corsair RM 850W CPU Cooler: Noctua U14S with Noctua 140mm fan Case Fan Config: 3 x 140mm front intake and 1 x 140mm rear outtake Case: Fractal Define S Latest BIOS version Any ideas are welcome.
  16. Hello from Australia, I am brand spanking new to the LTT community. I have been watching every video I can on YouTube and have been having a great time doing so. After seeing how much voltage and heat people need just to get to 5Ghz on their 8600K's I feel I have truly won the silicon lottery. I have been creeping up to 5Ghz the last couple of days expecting my temps to skyrocket at some point. To my surprise this has not happened yet. I have just done a quick 1 hour stress test in RealBench to demonstrate the clock and temps. I know its only 1 hour, but with these temps and voltage who really cares, there is so much room to add more voltage if need be. Ambient temp is 20 degrees. At 1 hour my temps did not pass 62 degrees. I was browsing and typing this while the stress test was running so to me that is pretty stable, but only time will tell. I can't take any credit, this one was all Intel. I feel very lucky. Settings: Vcore: 1.21v adaptive Clock: 5.0Ghz Intel Enhanced Turbo: Off Ratio mode: Variable EIST: On C-State: Auto Cache voltage: Auto Cache: 4.1Ghz Idle temp: 29 Degrees Max temp: 62 Degrees PC Specs: Motherboard: MSI Z-370 Sli Plus Ram: Corsair 16gb @ 2666mhz XMP Video Card: Galax GTX 1080 CPU: 8600K Cooler: H100i 4 years old Case: Cougar Panzer-G Thanks for reading, Johnson.
  17. So I am the proud owner of an i5-6600K. My question to you was: how is my chip compared to other chips? Did I win the sillicon lottery? Current specs: Core Speed: 4973.5MHz Multiplier: 49 Bus Speed: 101.5 MHz Voltage: 1.325V Thermals under load: 65 degrees (celcius) Delidded: Not (yet) Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 240V I have pushed the chip to about 5.1Ghz on 1.35V before. But my cooler isn't keeping up. Is it worth the delid?
  18. Hi Guys, im currently trying to overclock my non-delid 8700K. its running at 1.3V at 4,8 Ghz on all cores. but all my programms are showing, that its running at 4.76 or 4.77 Ghz. is that normal? (even on 100% load + its not throttling) On some videos of Linus I saw that programs always show something like 4.79 instead of 4.8. But I have never seen it so "low". am i doing something wrong?
  19. I am going to buy an i5 8600k from silicon lottery the cpu is advertised to have the thermalgrizzly and a clock rate of 4.9 will my cooler be enough
  20. Hello, i've been messin' around with my GTX1060 Strix 6GB and managed some results. Are they considered good, mediocre or average? Memory ran at approx. 9900MHz, core at approx. 2130MHz details in afterburner screenshots it was with my R5 1600 at 3.95GHz (3200MHz 16-16-16-36 memory)
  21. I'm buying a new cpu and don't really know where to go for it. I can always just get it on amazon and cut out the middle man but there's also this site called silicon lottery: https://siliconlottery.com/products/4790k47g. Its a place where they test all the chips and bin them within certain clock speeds at a certain voltage. I just haven't really heard much about them and am not sure if I want to put my credit card on a site that's this obscure. What do you guys think? Should I buy from the siliconlottery.com or just play the real silicon lottery?
  22. Sorry guys new here, I just overclocked my first chip today and I am looking for some feed back. I took my AMD FX 8350 and overclocked to a 4.7 GHz. That is no feet according to the internet, but what I am shocked is, that it is running at only 1.380 V and the temps are still very cool. Most owners of this chip take at least 1.4v - 1.42 v to do the same thing, with higher temps. Do I have room to get to 5.0 GHz on air cooling with this chip? Did I hit the silicon lottery with this chip? 23. Hello guys, I have just tried something unusual but that worked on my i7-2600 to try and keep its temps lower: I UNDERvolted it while I OC'ed it on the other hand. Yes I have a non-K CPU but under full load, I got its core from 3.5 GHz to 3.9GHz on not the stock 1.2V but 1.14V. Does this mean my CPU has a rather good silicon quality in it or is it common for Sandy Bridge CPU's to be able to reach 3.9 GHz at 1.14V? (that'a a 60mV undervolt from stock) Tell me what settings you're running at on your LGA 1155 core i7's (K or non-K) for comparison. Thanks!
  24. Hi there, i recently more or less finished my rig or at least i am not gonna upgrade it for some time now, but i am having hard time trying to OC my CPU. I presume its best to start with my specs: Mobo: Asus Rog Maximus Hero VI CPU: Intel i5 4670K CPU cooler: Bequiet Dark Rock Advanced RAM: 2x Kingston HyperX Fury 4GB (dual channel 8GB kit) GPU: MSI GTX 950 Gaming System drive: 120GB Samsung 840 Evo Secondary drive: 1TB Seagate Barracuda PSU: Seasonic (Energyknight) SS650HT (Case: NZXT H440) So after i recently obtained the last piece of this puzzle, the Bequiet CPU cooler, i started to fiddle around with CPU multiplier and voltage (following LTT Hasswel OC guide on YT, not skipping all preparation steps) and as i am newbie in overclocking game, i started slow trying to get stable 4.0Ghz on 1.2 Vcore. Thing is I had to ramp up Vcore to 1.25ish to get at least somewhat stable 4.0Ghz and going past 4.0 (or sometimes even my "stable" 4.0 when running prime95) results in "whea uncorrectable error", or "clock watchdog timeout" BSODs. Temps seem to be ok in mid 60s only going to around 70 when i try stabilizing 4.1-4.2Ghz with Vcore over 1.3. Is it possible that my PSU (having just 4pin ATX power not 8pin) is affecting my OC, am i doing something else wrong, or was i just really unlucky in silicon lottery? Anyway thx in advance for any advice i might get.
  25. Ok so i have done some overclocking on my I5 4690K and G1 GTX970 and this are my clocks and benchmark scores: CPU: I5 4690K @ 4.6GHz 1.4V GPU: Gigabyte G1 GTX970 Core: 1649MHz Memory: 3004MHz +50mV RAM: 16GB HyperX Fury 1866MHz Unigine heaven(maxed out 1080p): 1515 Cine bench: 685 Real bench(system score): 67632 Furmark(1080p): 5006 so are these good OC and scores? i dont know i havent really done any overclocking before and im not sure what other people are getting with these specs but i think it was worth it, it was certanly fun atleast thanks for any replies
