  1. So I see a bunch of users and they have their pc specs below whatever they say on a topic and just wondering how do I do that?
  2. Soundcloud: Coming soon Nvidia Announces Titan V Source 1: posted by Max_Settings https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/870611-nvidia-announces-titan-v-volta/ Source 2: https://www.anandtech.com/show/12135/nvidia-announces-nvidia-titan-v-video-card-gv100-for-3000-dollars Last night at the NIPS Conference, NVidia announced their new Titan V GPU with a golden shroud Available for purchase today for $3,000 It has the same GPU as the Tesla V100 which is $10,000 TITAN V is targeted at machine learning scientists who want to simply install the card into their desktop PCs, and not rely on a special server, storage, or networking. keeps the TITAN branding as opposed to GeForce TITAN Machine learning workloads favor heavy-duty matrix math operations which require massive memory bandwidth Specs: 5120 CUDA cores 110 DL TFLOPS that’s 9x times the deep learning computing horsepower of its predecessor 1455 MHz boost clock 815 mm2 die (GV100) 80 streaming multiprocessors (SMs) 12GB of 1.7GHz HBM2 attached via a 3072-bit memory bus. Each memory controller is associated with a ROP partition and 768 KB of L2 cache, bringing L2 down to 4.5 MB 21.1 billion transistors vapor chamber cooler with copper heatsink and 16 power phases 250W TDP NVIDIA is first and foremost promoting it as a workstation-level AI compute card, though it will still be a capable video card with all the appropriate outputs Titan V gets the GV100 GPU’s full, unrestricted FP64 compute and tensor core performance. What does separate the Titan from the Tesla: memory capacity, memory bandwidth, and the lack of NVLink functionality. Uses the standard GeForce driver stack ts Volta architecture underwent a serious revamping of the SM processor design at the core of the GPU, which should provide twice the energy of efficiency Pascal. This allows for major boosts in FP32 and FP64 performance, within the same power envelope. AMD and Qualcomm join forces on Always Connected PCs Source 1: posted by TheLinusPortal https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/869611-amd-and-qualcomm-join-forces-to-power-higher-end-connected-pcs/ Source 2: https://www.engadget.com/2017/12/05/amd-qualcomm-always-connected-pc-ryzen-snapdragon/ AMD and Qualcomm are teaming up to make Always Connected PCs on AMD's "Ryzen" mobile platform while using Snapdragon LTE modems to enable gigabit connection speeds. The Ryzen chipsets can provide decent frame rates for mid range games like League of Legends or Overwatch. Since the higher-end CPU can reach 3.8GHz Marrying this performance with Snapdragon's X16 LTE modems means that laptops could be powerful enough for online gaming over cellular connections. NiceHash breached, $64 Million Dollars of Bitcoin stolen Source 1: posted by SC2Mitch https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/870030-updated-w-statement-nh-nicehash-breached-resulting-in-a-loss-of-60-million-dollars/ Source 2: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-cyber-nicehash/hackers-steal-64-million-from-cryptocurrency-firm-nicehash-idUSKBN1E10AQ Slovenian cryptocurrency mining marketplace, NiceHash, said it lost about $64 million worth of bitcoin in a hack of its payment system 4700 coins The announcement followed a site outage and reports from users that their NiceHash-associated wallets had been emptied. There have been at least three dozen heists on digital currency exchanges since 2011, including one that led to the 2014 collapse of Mt. Gox, once the world’s largest bitcoin market. More than 980,000 bitcoins have been stolen from exchanges, worth more than $15 billion at current exchange rates. The NiceHash team urged users to change their non-NiceHash online passwords as a result of the breach and subsequent theft. When you take a picture or download a document, the SPU will generate a unique key that is required to decrypt the data in the file. It can even be used to generate keys for text messages in apps like Facebook Messenger or Whatsapp. The SPU is isolated from other systems to help prevent hacking. Its new image signal processor will be able to capture 4K HDR video at up to 60 fps. Rapid Fire AMD Silently Lowers Radeon RX560 Specs Source 1: https://www.anandtech.com/show/12122/amd-silently-lowers-radeon-rx-560-specifications AMD has silently lowered the specifications of the Radeon RX 560 to encompass parts with 14 CUs (896 Stream Processors), allowing them to be sold alongside standard 16 CU (1024 SP) parts. This allows AMD and its partners to market and ship lower-performing Radeon RX 460-level products under the "RX 560" branding. Sometime within the past few months the Radeon RX 560 product page on AMD's website was silently changed to include the lowered 14 CU specifications In July the site still said "16 CUs" only US lawmaker wants anti-loot box law Source 1: posted by Frankenburger https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/870381-us-lawmaker-lays-out-plans-for-anti-loot-box-law/ Source 2: http://www.pcgamer.com/us-lawmaker-who-called-out-star-wars-battlefront-2-lays-out-plans-for-anti-loot-box-law/ Source 3: https://youtu.be/_akwfRuL4os Hawaii Republican Chris Lee posted a video to YouTube in which he calls for "future protections for kids, youth, and everyone when it comes to the spread of predatory practices in online gaming." Lee describes EA’s Batlefront II as "a Star Wars-themed online casino designed to lure kids into spending money. He wants to ban the sale of such games to gamers under the age of 21 Would that actually do anything?? "These kinds of lootboxes and microtransactions are explicitly designed to prey upon and exploit human psychology in the same way casino games are so designed," Frankly, we don't need to change the laws in every state...We just need to change a few and it will be enough to draw the line and compel change." He does not feel emotion, he is guided by logic, he looks at things objectively and does not get old” Despite popular opinion, Russia’s Central Election Committee may find reason to decline the bid and prevent the robot from joining the presidential race. Steam no longer accepts Bitcoin Source 1: posted by VegetableStu https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/870288-steam-no-longer-accepts-bitcoin/ Source 2: https://steamcommunity.com/games/593110/announcements/detail/1464096684955433613 Yes, Steam did in fact accept Bitcoin as payment, but not anymore, due to high fees and volatility in the value of Bitcoin. When Steam first added Bitcoin as a method of payment, transaction fees were roughly $0.20. Now they’ve creeped as high as $20 per transaction. These fees are passed on to the consumer and result in unreasonably high costs for games The value of Bitcoin is only guaranteed for a certain period of time so if the transaction doesn’t complete within that window of time, then the amount of Bitcoin needed to cover the transaction can change. The normal solution is to either refund the original payment to the user, or ask the user to transfer additional funds to cover the remaining balance. In both these cases, the user is hit with the transaction fee again! Steam may re-evaluate accepting BTC at a later date. Google pulls YouTube from Amazon devices (again) Source 1: posted by davrosG6 https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/869948-google-is-pulling-youtube-from-amazon-devices-again/ Source 2: https://techcrunch.com/2017/12/05/google-is-pulling-youtube-from-echo-show-and-fire-tv-as-feud-with-amazon-continues/ Earlier this fall, Google pulled the YouTube app from Amazon’s Echo Show devices due to dissatisfaction with the implementation The app was missing subscriptions, related videos, commenting, sharing, and more But a few weeks ago, YouTube returned to Echo devices- but apparently without Google’s consent! Amazon had apparently built a work-around by implementing the web version of YouTube. This version was also built without Google’s input Google learned about it from the press, like everyone else The new version overlays voice controls on top of the experience, which Google claims is a violation of its Terms of Service Now, Youtube has been pulled from the Echo Show, and FireTV users have been warned that the app will disappear on January 1st. Is the removal temporary? “We’ve been trying to reach agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other’s products and services...But Amazon doesn’t carry Google products like Chromecast and Google Home, doesn’t make Prime Video available for Google Cast users, and last month stopped selling some of Nest’s latest products. Given this lack of reciprocity, we are no longer supporting YouTube on Echo Show and FireTV. We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon.” Mega Man X Games coming to modern platforms Source 1: posted by SlipperyPete https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/869840-mega-man-x-games-coming-to-pc-switch-ps4-and-xbox-one/ Source 2: https://kotaku.com/mega-man-x-collection-coming-to-ps4-xbox-one-switch-1820983270 Capcom has announced that all eight Mega Man X games are coming to current-gen platforms, including the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, in the summer of 2018. Mega Man X started on the Super Nintendo as a sort of soft-reboot for the classic 2D platforming series. The series spanned across the SNES, PlayStation, and PlayStation 2 before finally ending with Mega Man X8 in 2004. Mega Man Legacy Collections 1 and 2, which together include Mega Man 1 through 10, will come to Switch in 2018. Capcom also announced Mega Man 11 for current-gen platforms. The games are likely to be released separately and not as a collection but this hasn't been confirmed Nintendo games coming to NVIDIA SHIELD in China Source 1: https://www.slashgear.com/nintendo-games-coming-to-nvidia-shield-but-theres-a-catch-05510784/ You’ll soon be able to play Nintendo games on a third-party machine as Nintendo is porting full Wii and GameCube games to the NVIDIA SHIELD which just launched in China. the first three titles are New Super Mario Bros. Wii, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, PUNCH-OUT!! All of these games have been remastered in 1080p for the release. Super Mario Galaxy is planned for release, though we don’t know when. BUT we’ll likely never see these releases outside of China The Switch isn’t available in China so Nintendo is using the Shield as a foot in the door. It is possible that these games will come to the Switch through a virtual console though, as it has similar hardware to the Shield. 2018 iPhone Rumours Source 1: posted by RorzNZ https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/870622-2018-iphone-to-sport-61-display-and-new-colours/ Source 2: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/iphone-2018-lcd-metal-back-colors,news-26231.html edge to edge displays A model with a metallic back and an LCD display. It defeated the world’s best Chess bot, Stockfish, after just 4 hours of self-training. It spent two hours learning shogi—a Japanese version of chess that’s played on a bigger board—and then defeated one of the best bots around. It defeated previous human-champion-beating AlphaGo after 8 hours of training. Drone used to force Japanese staff to go home Source 1: posted by Tech_Dreamer https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/870824-japanese-firm-to-use-drone-to-force-overtime-staff-to-go-home/ Source 2: https://www.davidicke.com/index.php/article/443533/japanese-firms-deploy-singing-drones-combat-overwork-culture The T-Frend drone hovers around the heads of workers clocking in overtime while playing Auld Lang Syne, an 18th century Scottish ballad commonly used in Japan to tell shoppers it’s closing time. The drone will hover over your head playing the loud music until you leave. T-Frend can take a pre-programmed flight across the office autonomously, using its sensors to navigate around walls and other obstacles. T-Rend also functions as a security drone, filming surveillance footage and storing the data on an SD card. The drone’s developers are also considering outfitting it with facial recognition technology to help spot burglars and other intruders after-hours. T-Frend is expected to be launched in April, with a target price of around $4,400 a month.
  3. TITAN V RELEASED!!! WAN SHOW!!!

this better be on the wan show http://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-releases-volta-based-titan-v-for-pc/
  4. Interesting. Might be worth delving into a bit on the WAN show. Some folks who've bought Ryzen 5 1600 or 1600Xprocessors have found that their chips have two more cores than expected, which can only be described as a massive win on the CPU lottery. These CPUs should have six cores and 12 threads, but reports on Korean forums (spotted by Wccftech) say some users have found they have eight cores (and 16 threads) out of the box. The processors still run at the clock speeds quoted for the 1600X and 1600, but come with a pair of extra cores. http://www.techradar.com/news/some-ryzen-5-1600x-buyers-have-found-their-6-core-cpu-has-8-cores
  5. Wan show Podcast

I am aware that there is a wan show Soundcloud but I was wondering if there is a podcast using the apple podcast app. I prefer that one more. I looked around in the app and I found one but it isn't updated really. Any suggestions?

    It's aliveeeeeee. https://www.twitch.tv/linustech Really it's live now.
  8. [SUGGESTION] WAN Show - Addon

I have been thinking (which yes, I know is a bad idea) and I would love it if at the end of the WAN show, either in the same stream, or a mandatory afterparty, Linus went through pre-selected threads and replied to them on stream, or atleast, answered questions people had in chat. Not sure if this is the correct format, or the correct location, but I will attempt this anyways..
  9. Thought this was funny https://gyazo.com/ff294ddcff2f61361e75b55155ab961d
  10. Dear Linus and Team Techtips. First and always thank you all so much for all your creativity, Hard work, and Passion. So, I am a long time fan, first time post. I have been recently watching Scrapyard Wars which has quickly become my new love. Great job everyone by the way. And thought to myself if I could ask Linus what would it be. Well it would be, Linus I love scrapyard wars, but dont you think most of us probablly buy online or at least like to, would you consider doing a season or episode that is strickly based on buying on Amazon, or Online, or of that nature. Thank you very much for reading this and I wish you all the best. Your Friend in Arizona, USA Garrett, -Svornair.

I've been following Linus's videos for years now, and ever since they decided to name the live stream to the Wan Show. Almost every single time the show has some sort of a problem. Whether it's audio problems, video problems, computer deciding to bluescreen, software issues, the audio or video doesn't work or work properly when screen sharing, you name it they have it. How hard can it be for a team of over 10 people (honestly I lost count how many of them they are) to build a machine or fix the one they, and ensure that streaming from that machine works and then leave it like that. All it takes is just a couple of hours to fix it once and for all. That's it. So how hard can that be?
  13. WAN Show Hoodie 2nd Run

So I just recently started watching LTT. I really like the black/orange WAN Show hoodie. I was wondering if there was ever going to be a second run of the hoodie for those who are either new, or missed out on getting one before.

  15. Home Automated AMD Toaster

Here is an option for an internet of things toaster! You just use remote desktop software to overclock the cards in crossfire and then when you get home, the toast ready! Also you might need to home automate this to make sure your house doesn't burn down, cuz amd
  16. Adblock Whitelisting WAN Show

This is crazy, Forbes is asking me to white list their website in exchange for "light-ad experience for 30 days" Just thought this was interesting considering the guys just talked about it in the last WAN show. Let me know what you guys think!

  18. Is there any way to watch US Netflix shows in England? I know Netflix automatically detects where you are and stuff but is there a work around that doesn't cost money and is legal/safe?
  19. The wan show is always late

  20. Good TV show ?

I've watched the Blacklist ( liked it), 2 first seasons of breaking bad ( i don't like it),1st season of daredevil (meh), game of throne ( my favourite), and the latest is quantico witch i enjoyed a lot. i don't know if it's the story or just the casts. they are one of if not the sexiest cast i've seen so far. i really liked it. looking forward to the 2nd season. i need some recommendation on what tv show should i watch next.. im going to try the arrow or the flash.............maybe
  21. Hey, I was just wondering if any of you know the date of the wan show where linus talked with the guy that helped design the interior of the new headquarters. I'm fairly certain it was a wan show because I remember it being a lengthy discussion, however I cant seem to find it in the playlist of wan shows.
  22. Source : Ars Technica and Adored TV (Same person to decipher AMD's master plan) TL:DR basically saying that Nvidia and AMD will no longer be competing in the same market sectors , Nvidia will continue to rule the higher end market as they have been doing since about Kepler due to AMD pushing them into it for more information on that watch AMD master plan series also by Adored TV I personally think this is better, AMD who in my opinion make better low to mid range cards stick to only making low to mid range cards and Nvidia who clearly make the better fastest single GPU solutions should stick to only that this way their is less new GPUs to make every year therefore more focus given on the 2-4ish GPUs they do make which is better for the consumer at the end of the day Quote from Ars Technica Article "The key differentiator is market positioning: Pascal is likely to be a high-end part with fast GDDR5X memory, while AMD has confirmed—despite earlier comments to the contrary—that Polaris will be aimed at "the mainstream desktop and high-end gaming notebook segment."
  23. Source : http://wccftech.com/helio-x30-vs-snapdragon-820/ The unreleased Helio x30 had about a 23% higher score in Antutu over the Snapdragon 820 Main features of the Helio x30 2 x Cortex-A72 cores running at 2.8GHz (or quite possibly cores belonging to the Artemis architecture) 4 x Cortex-A53 cores running at 2.2GHz 4 x Cortex-A35 cores running at 2.0GHz 2 x LPDDR4 RAM ePOP (indicating that the SoC will be an ‘all in on package’) A high-performing PowerVR GPU instead of an ARM Mali one Support up to a 26MP rear camera sensor Do you guys think the Helio x30 will be the king for long with the snapdragon 823 just around the corner? New update guys the Helio x30 is rumored to have 50% lower power consumption over the x20 Source : http://wccftech.com/helio-x30-cut-performance-consumption-50-percent-compared-helio-x20/
  24. Our team attended PAX East once again this year, and we are excited to be bringing you guys the best PAX East show coverage on YouTube over the next three days. But of course, our team wouldn't be able to attend without our generous sponsors, who we want to say a quick thank-you to here! Our first sponsor this year is Logitech G. Everyone here should be very familiar with their awesome line-up of keyboards, mice, headsets, and other peripherals, but if not make sure you check them out at this link! And take a look at the #GreatWallofLogitechG that they were showing off at PAX this year - pretty darn awesome. And our second sponsor at the show is Discord - which is a new sponsor, by the way, so make sure you give them some love over on their Twitter for working with us at the show this year. They're the all-in-one voice and text chat program that's free, secure, and works on both your desktop and phone. You can even set up your own chat servers for free! Long story short, they're f***ing awesome, and you should definitely download Discord to try for yourself at this link. Thanks once again to our awesome sponsors this year, and thanks to all of you for watching and supporting the content!!
  25. WAN Show Intro

Can anyone tell me what the intro references are from on The WAN Show? "Do swamps give you 'swamp butt'? ...I hope that's what that is." "Maybe if I clench hard enough... ...Nope I"m dead." I just never got those... Can someone please explain?
