A share button could be especially useful in certain areas of the site. I know in a lot of places you can just copy the link to the thread, but it could be especially useful mainly in status updates where you can't always get a specific link to the status update.

I'm looking for recommendations for what is best to set up to access my data remotely from Truenas core From my research so far I see others using options such as: ZeroTeir NextCloud Wireguard Tailscale What is best to set up, affordable pricing, ease of set up, a good mobile app etc I also see that something like Tailscale might be better with Truenas Scale using Truecharts

so im trying to send my Wi-Fi connection over ethernet but i'm getting stuck at selecting my ethernet connection in the sharing tab. im trying to send wifi to ethernet and only ethernet 4 is showing up

So, im getting fed up with doing random shit to send text (usually links, usernames, emails, etc.) To myself from my phone to laptop and the other way around. Does anyone know of something that ideally will make is super simple to copy things back and forth. I really dont want to use microsoft's your phone thing. Ideally i would be able to select text on my phone and hit share and be able to send it to a device's (or all devices') clipboard(s). And similarly with windows i want to either have a key combo or be able to right click selected text and say send to x device. Ive tried Alt-C and this works great for sending from windows to android but not the other way because of Android 10's restrictions on apps reading the clipboard (only when they are in the foreground). Chrome (and vivaldi) have support for sending tabs to devices and this works mostly but i need something that does more than just tabs. Any ideas?

Long story short, setting up local network over Ethernet between 2 computers through routers (linksys wrt 1900acs) gigabit Ethernet ports. Using wifi adaptor (asus USB-AC56) for internet while changing over. Everything is fine. Both computers can see each other and transferring over Ethernet at 111MB/s. so easy, having a great day. Inb4 wifi adaptor crashes cant see any wifi networks. Go to re-boot and accidentally put it too sleep. tring to wake it up to restart it blue-screens (don't have the error code). re-boot and now my PC doesn't show up on the network even for me. I can see other computers and transfer to them over Ethernet at 111MB/s but no one can see me.

I have some files on my computer that i want to share with some friends and i want them to be able to access the files when ever they want. But i don't want to us Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. because of data quotas. is there any software for Windows to let them access the files on my computer similar to a server?

I apologize in advance for anything extremely dense that I ask, for I am very inexperienced in networking. I just recently built my new home server/NAS (specs at the bottom of my sig) and I want to get started actually using it as a NAS. However for multiple reasons I have to run Windows on it so I'm looking for the best way to share files/folders on the server between that and my main PC. It seemed for a bit like setting up a homegroup was the best solution since they are both Windows 10 PCs, but the problem is I need to keep the NAS secured from others on the network, either by making it only visible to my PC or putting a password on access to its shared files, which it doesn't seem like a homegroup can do either of after some brief research. So what would be a good solution for me?

Hi, so i have 2 USB External HDDs connected to my PC basically full time. Now i wanted to share the info from them on my LAN. So basically did this guide. http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=138002. Normal sharing in windows. Now i set these up on my Main internal HDD (WD Black 2TB), my OS/Programs SSD (kingston 120GB), and the two USB External Drives WD 500GB Passport, and a WD 2TB Ultra. I am trying to access them from my phone using es file explorer. Scanned LAN, connected to my PC and it shows all the shared folders no problem. However i can only access the internal HDD and SSD. selecting the External drives shared folder path gets nothing. I know how to portforward the drive, setting up an ftp server website but this will only allow me to share one external drive at a time. Any Advice? Edit: Solved .. Sort of. The drives were connected via usb hub. connecting them directly to the motherboard and resetting up the sharing worked. Is there a way around this? eg. assigning the drives a unique ip and navigating directly to that?

Hello, I was accessing a hub via EiskaltDC++, and accidentally shared some files that I should not have shared. Is there any way to take them down? Also I do understand that if someone has downloaded them, that cannot be changed, but if these files remain, it will be easy to identify me.

Hello, After (what I consider to be) extensive research, I cannot find how to transfer files over an ethernet cable connecting two PCs directly. Has anyone done this? (Or know how it would be done?) Thanks in advance!

Hi all, I'm new here and a bit of an amateur, so please bear with me. Last year my friend gifted me a 2011 mac. I have since bought a pc with windows 10 that does almost everything I could want, however the mac has Logic Pro and a number of other useful music-related applications. My plan is to keep the mac in my music room connected up to the mics etc, and send any other files over that I might need. For example, I want to send over some live gig audio from my camera (which the pc is infinitely better at dealing with) so I can chop it up and eq it in Logic. I know I could just put the files I need on physical storage and move it around, but if I manage to set this up it'll be much more convenient. I have gotten so far as attempting to connect the mac to a server. It asks me for a password and I'm not exactly sure what one it's asking for. I've tried all the passwords for everything I can think of. Apologies for the quality of the attached pic. I'm using a standard keyboard on the mac and don't know how to screenshot Can normally botch my way through this stuff but not today it seems. If anyone could take the time to somewhat walk me through this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dean

I shared my steam library with my friend yesterday so he could try out Rainbow Six siege for a few hours before he buys it. He doesn't have enough money to purchase the full edition, so he plans on purchasing the starter edition. I was wondering, since I believe your Rainbow six siege data is managed by Uplay rather than Steam, if he plays the game and unlocks some operators after making an account on the shared full version, and then purchases the starter edition, if it will save all of his unlocked operators and maybe even keep the full version's unlocking system. What do you guys think?

I'm trying to find a solution where I am able to use one set of 2.1 Logitech Speakers that connect via one AUX cable to multiple devices without have to plug them into the difference devices. For example, the headphone port in my monitors to get the sound from my Chromecast to the speakers as well as being able to use the speakers on my desktop and possibly other devices I wish to connect. Essentially I'm looking for an AUX input hub to a single output AUX connector that I can plug my speakers into. I've tried searching for a few things but no luck. I don't think I'm searching for the right things. Hope this isn't a confusing request. Thanks

Just a quick question, because I seem to be to stupid to figure this out by myself or find anything useful on the internet about this. Following situation: - I have a folder that I would like to share to the network on my Win10 machine. - I have a Win7 machine in the same network that needs to access this folder. - I want to give writing permissions of this folder only to a specified account on the Win7 machine and not for "Everyone" (as I could do, but don't want to). - But when I try to add the Win7 account to the sharing permissions on my Win10 folder, it just tells me that it can not find this account. (Neither with "\\Win7Domain\User" or "User@Win7Domain") - And if I try to find the user with the built-in windows search, it only finds the accounts on my Win10 Machine, because I am unable to change the search path to my Win7 Domain. So... How do I do this? How do I tell it to give permissions to a user on another machine? Sorry if this is a bit confusing. I can add screenshots if any of you would like to have some to better understand what I'm actually talking about. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone I just got a 4k projector that I plan to set it up in my living room, I also have a semi beasty desktop in my home office and a HTC Vive. Is there a practical way to utilize this desktop in my Livingroom (without moving it)? I want to utilize the HVC vive in the Livingroom along with the projector for guests watchers. My home office desktop would have no issue powering a setup like this but I want to somehow utilize this without moving the hole desktop in to the livingroom, is there a good solution out there that I have not considered? If not, I will need to consider just getting another beasty desktop that will act as my media station/ Livingroom gaming station. Any ideas anyone?

I just did a fresh install of windows 10 on my old PC as I was having a lot of strange issues with windows recognizing certain drives and registry errors and so on. On my previous install I had my 12tb media HDD shared over the network publicly so anyone on the network could see the folder and add to it, or watch TV shows and Movies from there if the didn't feel like using the Plex server. On my fresh install of windows I am having difficulty getting my folder publicly shared again. I am unable to access it without being prompted for user account info to this PC. These are my current share settings. When I first tried to share the folder I had difficulty with permissions as this drive thought my old user account on my old windows installation was still the owner, so I changed the ownership in advanced security settings to myself, and added "everyone" as a principle with full control, including folders, subfolders, and files. In order to rule this out as still being an issue I tried sharing a freshly formatted drive on the network and still was unable to access it. Here are my network settings: I also have turned my firewall off to ensure that is not an issue for some reason. From the server I can go to the network tab in explorer, and then my computer, and see the folder that I have shared. However when I go to connect from another device I am required to input a username and password which is what I am trying to avoid. I just want the drive to be public and anyone on the local network to have access to it. Thanks to whoever takes the time to read this.

Have my windows 10 machine and trying to share internet connection with my Ubuntu server. I am staying in a place with no hard wire lines and only wifi My Desktop wifi works fine but until recently is not sharing internet connection anymore. The DHCP serives in windows is working and giving the server an ip and transfer file from local machine to local. But it can't even ping the wifi router.

Hey guys, I'm learning how to setup a network sharing. I would like the share some files between my desktop and iPhone. Is there any good tutorials on how to set it up? I always get stuck when they ask for the "desktop username and password" but I do not have any password setup on my desktop and don't know what's my username. Im on Windows 8 and hate linking email to login on my own personal desktop

The title pretty much says it. I've searched the internet high and low for something that would allow me to send a file from my OnePlus 6 to an iPhone as seamlessly as possible. Most of my friends use iPhones and I've been looking for a way to be able to send files to them without having each and every one of them install an app. I know about Zapya and SHAREit, but that would mean every person I want to send something to having to install that app. Whatsapp butchers image quality for photos and email is just clunky and pretty impractical for large transfers. What I'm looking for is (and I am not sure if this is possible, given Apple's closed ecosystem) some app that would let me share a file so that it would appear to the iPhone user as an AirDrop share. Having it work the other way around (emulating AirDrop in a way that would let iPhone users send files to me through AirDrop) would be a nice bonus, but not a necessity). Are any of you guys aware of an app that does this? I don't need it to be pretty, I just need it to do the job. Thanks in advance, Vlad

Can I share my file with my friends through internet without uploading them. I mean, I want to share my games and movies by creating a link with which my friend can download it directly from my HDD.

Ever since the gtx460 I've found my self selling sooner to fund the next one. Sell the 460 and get the 560ti 560ti - to 660 (didn't keep that one long) 660-760 760- 970 970 - 1070 (that hurt as it cost me 100 more than the other replacements) (always MSI for some reason) So I got a 1070 for £350 (£200 in actual outlay) about 18mnths ago The rtx 2070... The 2nd hand value of a 1070 and the new cost of a 2070(AIB not founder) I can see that as 300+ actual outlay. I've had such a good run of what I think has been very cost effective performance enjoyment. I think its over. Nvidia is a fkn nightmare

OK let me start by saying I've had this problem ever since windows removed home group sharing a couple months ago. i have read days worth of forums trying to figure this out and i final decided to ask for help. Before the windows up date i could share a file from my movie server (movie server has:1 ssd boot drive &1 hdd movie storage) to my smart tv, where i was able to select the pc and view my movies. Now when i select the movie server from the tv it says no content found. I should mention the i am able to access the Movie server from any other lan of wireless pc in the house but both the tv and the smart blue ray player on the other tv are unable to see any movies or folders yes all of my advance sharing option are on, except the the password is turned off and the tv has permission under Control Panel → Network and Internet → Network and Sharing Center → Media Streaming Option I've tried reinstalling windows, had to re set up all the sharing options and that didn't fix anything. Then i tried copy a movie from the server to my person pc and share the movie from there. Once I turned the sharing options on the tv could see my person pc but it also was not able to the movie there either. The TV also is using cat6 so its not a wifi problem either wanted to pointed out that when i select network on my personal pc both computers show up but when i select network on my movie server nothing shows up. (You can view both pc as a media devices but that opens windows media player) any help would be amazing
