hi there, specs I'm using.. CPU --intel core i5 4460 lga 1150 M BOARD-- intel h81 GPU-- geforce GT 640 4 gb ram. let me start from begging, first I was unable to post while GPU was inserted into M Board, even though I set System agent in bios to select PCIE first, it would just not post at all, then I tried one last time and selected SG(switchable GFX) if finally posted and i was in windows but outputting from onboard and not GPU, so i installed intel GT 640 drive and windows now pick it up, but uses it as shared GPU, when I'm in windows it uses onboard and when I'm playing games it uses the GT640, while the pc is running in windows i unplug HDMI cable and insert into GPU but does not output anything, now my question is I'm not sure if i should just leave it as is or do i tinker around and risk not been able to use GPU, will upload a few pics, please any advise would greatly be accepted

hi i would like to use a network folder with a friend, i know that windows share over internet isn't the most secure option, but it's for some random data (small softwares, homework...) i have opened these ports: TCP/445 TCP/139 UDP/137 UDP/138 but i can't access the folder. Can someone explain me why (if the ISP is blocking those ports, how can i use them anyway?) thank you

Hey, I have a shared folder on my Windows 10 desktop. I am trying to stream media to a laptop running Ubuntu 20.04.1. LTS. I'm able to see the folders I want to access by using the command "smbclient -L servername -U username", but I cant open any of the folders or access them at all. Has anyone had any experience in this? I'm pretty new to ubuntu and linux, any help would be very appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Guys i really need your help. My hard disk went down last sunday and i have been forced to reinstall all my O/S and programs. My problem is i cannot share a drive over my network that was working perfectly before the crash it just keeps saying on the other computers that you dont have permission to access. I have set permissions to everyone in security and taken control of the drive as everyone. I have looked and followed many youtube videos including this one..... I just cannot get the drive to be accessable from another computer, i have tried accessing it from 2 laptops and a PC all windows 10 like is being run on the system which im trying to share the drive from. Please please can someone shed any light on my issue and how i can resolve it. Thanks.

Hi everybody, First post here, sorry if something the topic is in the wrong forum. I work in a 3d visualization studio, we use xeon processors, but the single threaded performance isnt quite good on those. So I want to build a PC with only the single threaded performance in mind, because many of the software we use, use only one core or one thread, but I want that PC to be accessible across the office by anyone whitin seconds (that means 4-6 people, depending what we are working on). I was reading about KVMs and that you can connect multiple PCs to a single or multiple monitors and switch between the PCs with set keyboard keys in seconds, but could not find a solution so far to the problem where you need to connect all the PCs and all the monitors to one PC and switch between your pc and the shared pc with a hotkey or a button (if there is hardware involved). reversed KVM... maybe? What are your thoughts on that, where would you start looking for a solution? Thanks! PS: Im not an IT guy

Good day to all. I am here again to ask for your infinite wisdom. I have a WD EX2 Ultra (NAS). My problem is that the NAS does not appear under network on file explorer. It does appear where all network devices are shown, but when I click it, it takes me to the NAS IP config page. My brothers pc (which is exactly as mine) can connect without issues. My laptop mac can connect without issues. If I use run and input the NAS' IP, I can connect edit and work on the NAS folder, but if I close that file explorer it goes away again. I tried: Turning everything on in advance sharing rebooting all devices possible Plz help. If you need pics let me know.

Hi, I want to connect my smart TV to the Internet via Ethernet through my PC. The reason I want to do so is that I stream media via Ethernet to my TV. But the model does not allow to connect to the internet via WI-FI and keep the wired connection to the media server. It either has one of the adapters working at a time. In order to stream, I have my Ethernet's IPv4 on my PC statically addressed, as in my TV. Stream works fine, but I cannot get the TV to connect to the Internet, even when activating the share option on my wireless adapter. Is there anyway I can get this to work? Thanks in advance,

I've been wanting to build a simple website for fun with an actual domain and Namecheap stands out to me as a cheap offering. I also want to use said domain instead of the freedns I am currently using for connecting to my home servers. Is Namecheap "too" cheap? Their offering looks good but is it worth paying more for a potentially better product from a competitor? Also, is it even possible to use the domain for both a website on their platform and also point it back to my home server (I know a domain can't point to two IPs but perhaps there could be a redirect based on port?) https://www.namecheap.com/hosting/shared/

I have always had this problem with windows, I have set the permissions to allow everyone, I have turned off password-protected sharing in the sharing centre and have even made sure to enable the correct services and windows features. Why can't I access the shared drive without a password?

Gday all, I've used Windows network shares for years and honestly it's like dragging yourself over hot coals but there's no real alternative for an average joe like me. Basically, every once in a while something would break, sometimes due to Windows update and sometimes for no discernible reason. The outcome is always the same; many hours/days of faffing about on google, cursing, tearing down security measures, and it's all working again albeit with a lower level of security somewhere or another. So the time now has come when all the brute force measures have been exhausted and I have no more firewalls to burn down, no more passwords to remove or permissions to give. Two days ago my sister complained that her W10 laptop could no longer connect to the W7 home server. So after the usual fighting with Windows and trying out a dozen internet suggestions and registry edits, it was working again. Not only that, my Mac could now also connect to the home server (it stopped working months ago and I gave up trying to make it work). In summary, the conclusion was something about disabling NetBIOS and IPv6 all around and also a bunch of registry edits as usual. HOWEVER, it seems that the flipside of that is my main W7 PC now can't connect to home server. They're both gigabit wired to a router, but are also directly tethered to each other by a 10gbit SFP cable (from linus' tutorial a couple years back). This setup has worked flawlessly and never given me any problems with either speed or connectivity, even stuff like remote desktop. But no longer. I feel like I've read every post on technet twice already. I could try to recall and list everything I've tried but not before the heat death of the universe. Between work and rest and what little play I can get the last thing I want to do is screw around with Microsoft's nonsense networking. I'd just about do anything to have working, simple file sharing. Pinch a cat, slap an old lady, set Ballmer's house on fire, whatever. ---- So for the first time in my life I'd like to sit down and try a surgical approach with the hopefully kind people here at LTT. This has never worked in the past because all the places I posted (Stackexchange, Technet, Reddit, 7Forums etc) have either responded by completely ignoring noob like me, throwing out a bunch of incomprehensible jargon and code, providing pseudo-polite tech support that's irrelevant at best, or just inexplicable downvoting. I know my way around a cmd window, so tell me what to do, what you need to know, what diagnostics and reports to produce, hell I'll even let you teamviewer in here to find out what's going on. Please help. Home server: Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Gigabyte Z67, i7-3570K, 16GB DDR3, GTX1060, whole bunch of hard drives and Mellanox Connect-X 2 Workstation: Windows 7 Ultimate x64, MSI Z77, i7-3770K, 24GB DDR3, GTX1070, not as many hard drives but also has a Mellanox Connect-X 2 Router: Netgear R6400, cat5e cables all around Thanks in advance guys.

My question is , that I have seen somewhere that my shared video memory was like 6 gigs, and I have a 2 Gb GPU (overclocked gtx 950) so that would mean that from somewhere I share 4 Gb of memory(1 is probably coming from my integrated ,, graphics card" and I wondered if I can actually set video game settings to higher memory requirements. If you don't understand it, I will do my best to explain it to you otherwise

It shows up when the user is accessing it using outlook on a PC or OWA but when the user logs in to outlook for android it does not show the shared calendar. Let me know if I have missed out any relevant information. Thanks in Advance.

I have two computers, one with Windows Vista (The main one I want access to files on) , and the other with Windows 10 Pro (This is the one I want to get access with). I have followed every single tutorial out there for the common "Destination folder access denied - you need permission to perform this action" but still haven't found one that works (for me). Note two things: 1) I can access the 'public' folder on the C: drive but would rather using the other drive (I:) due to lack of space on C. 2)I am trying to get access on a network shared computer, not just other users on the same computer. 3) You have to know that I am not in any way a computer expert. I fail to understand some techy concepts so I'd rather get simple answers that explain what to do in every screen, not "choose a user" or something like that. (I'm sorry if this sounds rude). So... Can anyone please help? Tell me if you need more info. Thanks!

Hello guys! I'm new to this forum, however I have asked all over for this and so far no solution has been found! I hope I don't sound silly asking this. I currently have one computer with all of our family videos and pictures on, I access this computer's files through a network shared folder. However I can obviously only access this while on my home network. Is there a way to make all my computers files instantly accessable (able to stream video from). It would be an advantage to be able to gain access to the files from iphones, tablets and laptops when we are on holiday. Willing to spend some money on this! Thanks in advance guys! Regards Ciaran

If a ran ethernet (Gigabit) in to a Windows 7 machine and then bridged it to a second card providing ethernet out to my desktop, would I see a large speed decrease? So I guess the question is would the desktop be noticeably slower getting it's network connection shared from a Windows machine compared to straight from the switch. Googling just pulls up results about shared wifi which I'm not interested in.

Let's say PC1 has a local printer and it's connected to USB1. It's already set to be shared on the LAN. Now, I can manually add that printer to PC2 using add a printer on Devices and Printers. How can I do the sharing of printer and adding it to another computer using GPO?

Okay so this is a pretty dumb question but still I will ask it shamelessly. I have three laptops in my home. Every single of them has pretty much the same graphics card and processor. What I want to do is use one of the laptop as a main machine and using the other two just to give power to it. Meaning, sharing the CPU and GPU so I can play the game without any type of lag after that. Any type of suggestion is appreciated. Also tell me if it can be done via wifi or wired connection or not done at all! Thanks for any advice.

Original story: http://www.cbc.ca/m/news/#!/content/1.1382428 Sorry for mobile link - can't seem to find story on main news site. A small community-improvement nonprofit in Olds has partnered with the government to supply the townsfolk of Olds with shared Gigabit connections. The cost is about $60-100/month, about half of what I pay currently for my shaw 50mbit. Residential users will be sharing bandwidth among about 4-5 households on each gigabit fiber line at worst. Guaranteed 1000Mbit dedicated business connection can be had for $5000/month. I'd love to see real world numbers now that its rolling out with proper benchmarks; especially on upload rates which cripple my youtube sharing experience here in Calgary. My neighborhood is strung with fiber here in Calgary but it'll remain dark for another decade I imagine. I guess the benefit of small town infrastructure is there is a lot less to install!
