1. I am looking for a cheap 400watt SFX power supply for my NAS. I am trying to stay below $80 USD if possible. All the models I know of are $120+. Are there any good lesser known budget brands that make decent psu's? Note: dont need modular
2. Hello friends! im planning on making a small form factor build. I have currently a motherboard: b550 msi atx cpu: amd 5800x ram: 4x8 trident z gpu: amd stock 6800xt case: deepcool e shield psu: Corsair rm850 CPU cooler: Noctua nh d15 with one fan I’m currently looking into the ssupd meshroom s(https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=6_6004_5959&item_id=237625&sid=nr6ip2ip5v57ho53n8heel2hb7), as I saw some builds on YouTube making a full atx mobo fit in. The drawback is that I have to buy a sfx psu. I already have a Deepcool aio that I used for 2 years before going to a Noctua. I really like sff but before I didn’t have the money to go full sff build and paying that “sff tax” now I do. Is it worth going sff case? And if it is which sfx psu should I get? A quick response would be much appreciated as I’m trying to take advantage of the Boxing Day sales
3. hey all, this is my first post. I am planning a build using DanCase C4-SFX and I am trying to figure out which GPU’s fit with no modification to the GPU. I first saw this case in a Linus Tech Tips video where they modify a Gigabyte Aorus RX 7900 XTX to fit it. Then I saw a video by Optimum showing an MSI RTX 4080 Gaming X Trio fitting with no modifications. The Gigabyte is 335mm long and doesn’t fit in Linus’s video, DanCase states 336mm as the max length, and the MSI is 337mm and fits no problem for Optimus. I want to put a Gigabyte RTX 4070Ti which measures (336x140x58) GPU dimensions Gigabyte Aorus RX 7900 XTX (335x137x69) MSI RTX 4080 Gaming X Trio (337x140x67) Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 4070Ti (336x140x58) LinusTechTips GPU does not fit w/o modification: Optimus showing it fitting just fine: Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. best regards, K
4. I recently got a new A4-H2O and migrated a lot of my old components to the new case, and I’m really liking it so far! However, one thing I did appreciate about the old case was that the power button had LEDs in it that would take on a sort of ‘breathing’ pattern when it fell asleep. This was nice since I would forget whether or not I turned the computer off or put it to sleep the last time I used it. The A4-H2O has been great, but it has been the slightest inconvenience not having that LED there. The AIO I picked up for the build is an EK RGB model since it’s the best deal I could find. That got me wondering, though, if there was some way I would be able to replicate that sleep breathing through the pump RGB. Where it would just stay white while on, and then do the breathing if it went to sleep. Unfortunately, I’m not quite well-versed enough in RGB stuff to know if that’s even a possibility, so I figured I’d ask about it. The AIO has a VDG and a J-Rainbow connector (hope that’s what those are called), but I don’t know if somehow connecting those to the Power LED pins would work, or if this would be something better taken care of in some kind of software. Obviously this is the most minute of problems and I can usually tell pretty quickly if it’s asleep or not by just pressing some keys, but I figured if there’s a way to get that functionality back without jumping through too many hoops then it would be neat to try
5. Hi all! I'm currently trying to build a small formfactor PC and i'm struggling with deciding on CPU/Mainboard combination. So my original plan was to get a i5 13600K cpu paired with a ASUS STRIX B760-I ITX motherboard. However i read online that 13th gen intel processors are on 100% voltage and that you can't undervolt them on a B760 chipset, which might be suboptimal for SFX cases considering that there is almost no performance loss when doing so on those chips. now my question is, is it smarter to go for a Z790 motherboard (100€ more) instead, or should i go from a i5 13600K to a i7 13700F (30€ over the i5) and give away my overclocking options. Planning to Pair with a Noctua NH-L9x65 OR a Noctua NH-C14S whichever is a smarter choice. for build details, i'm going for: Case: Fractal design terra Ram: 32GB Corsair vengance DDR5 6000mhz CL36 PSU: EVGA 750W SFX GPU: Some RTX 4070 while i'm at it, are Palit and Gainward good GPU makers? tending to go for a ASUS Dual 4070 OC however both of those makers also offer an OC version for 50€ cheaper than the asus model. Definetly going for a 4070 as i need the 12gb VRAM and 3080s 2nd hand here are still at BS pricing. also the lower power consumotion of the 4070 is smth i want cuz EU power pricing
6. So as I am currently ordering some redragon peripherals I found out they actually have a sfx atx 3.0 power supply, it being 80+ platinum, with a somewhat premium look and pcie 5.0 connectivity I was wondering If anyone knows if its worth buying out at the price set on 127 Euro I understand its only 750W but its sufficient for my systems. I know redragon didnt have the best quality on the old units they made but this seems like a big improvement. Also if anyone can find out what the cables look like I would appreciate that, I personally didn't find anything. (for anyone looking to also buy it be careful, it doesnt come with the 12VHPWR cable, but I already have a few) LINK for the PSU: https://redragonshop.com/products/80-platium-750-watt-sfx-fully-modular-power-supply?variant=44283536244958 or this https://www.redragonzone.com/collections/gaming-pc-power-supply/products/redragon-psu015-80-platium-750-watt-sfx-fully-modular-power-supply EDIT, found the 80+ rating results that also show the cables and everything else I needed https://www.clearesult.com/80plus/sites/80plus/files/manufacturer-certificate/Redragon_RGPS-750SFX_750W_SOCE 6318.2_Report.pdf
7. Hello LTT community! Over the weekend my girlfriend gave me a Fractal Terra as a birthday present! I’ve wanted a SFX case for as long as I’ve known about Dan’s Case… My only complaint about Dans case (me being in the US) was availability and how long the design process took… I watched the C4 case go through a lot of iterations from 2017-2023… Needless to say, I never built a SFX build before. Until I heard about the Fractal Terra, announced at Computex 2023! I actually caught GNexus video about it the week of Computex, and immediately started obsessing over it. My girlfriend got the hint. I’m glad she chose the black color, as it goes with my normal aesthetic… I tested out my MSI RTX 3080 Trio, which required removing the riser cable and mount from the case. It was a tight squeeze. While I put it back in, I managed to get the Fractal Terra spine to adjust to the 3rd position. According to the manual, this should allow for up to 67mm of clearance for the CPU cooler… originally I thought I’d only be able to have the spine set to the 4th position, with the allotment of 62mm of clearance… For CPU cooling, I opted for the Noctua L9a-AM4, which only takes up 37mm of space… I could have gone with a Noctua NH-L9x65 which would have filled that space… Oh well! I already ordered the smaller of the two I currently have an open bench frame as a case using a micro ATX mobo… so I had to order a mini itx mobo. I will be reusing much of the components from my original PC, such as the Ryzen 3600, 32GB of DDR4, and the m.2s and 2.5GB SSDs. Also, since this is a new SFX build, I opted for the Silverstone SX1000 Platinum… a bit overkill, but I wanted to future proof this build in case I find a deal on a 40 series RTX card. I’ll update this thread when I receive components to install. Feedback is welcome, I’m mostly writing this build thread for anyone curious about this case.
8. I recently purchased a Launchpad Pro from eBay on the cheap. When I received it, everything worked fine However, I'm a complete noob when it comes to launchpads. I thought I'd be able to easily use it as a standalone SFX unit where I can load in a certain audio file and then play it back WITHOUT needing to interface with a PC. This does not seem to be the case. After hours of trying to find SOMETHING to help me accomplish this task, there is nothing that says it's possible nor impossible. At least, not that I can find after hours and hours of research. If anybody could lend me a hand or put me in the right direction, that'd be appreciated. Also, I didn't know where to put the post in the forum, so I put it under troubleshooting as I'm asking for help.
9. Budget (including currency): 1800€ Country: Italy Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: League of Legends, Guild Wars 2, Hogwarts Legacy, other games (new and old release) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Existing part Monitor: LG 34WN80C Hello everyone, for a friend I'm going to build a new pc, a Mini-ITX. I never built one, so I'm a bit unsure of what parts to pick, like the GPU and the PSU. This is the list right now: Case: IQUNIX ZX-1 (already bought) CPU: Intel i5-13400 or 13600k, probably will go for the 13600k MoBo: ASUS ROG STRIX B760-I RAM: whatever is cheap at the moment of buying, going for 2x16gb DDR5 minimum 5600 MHz. SSD: Samsung 980 PRO 1TB/500GB (if we need to cheap out a bit) OR Sabrent Rocket 1TB/500GB (same) - on this one I think it doesn't matter wich brand I choose. Cooler: Kraken X53 Right now, with all this pieces, we reach about 1130€, so we have more or less 700€ to pick a PSU and a GPU. I never picked a SFX PSU, so I have no idea of what brand is the "bang for the buck". Also, what GPU is best to pair with the LG 34WN80C? Thank you kindly for everyone who's going to answer
10. System: Ryzen 3800x, with 3080 FE, NR200 (cabinet) I have pinged Corsair India Sales/Service over e-mail, but haven't got any reply yet. The enquiry was for SF750. Also, I found a seller on Amazon, but the prices are jacked up, and Corsair India Sales/Service won't say if the seller is authorized. Worried that warranty might not be honoured. As far as Cooler Master goes, new SFX PSU's aren't launched yet. Any other options for SFX PSU ?
11. Hi guys, My brother and I started building a custom pc with a Cooler Master NR200 case and an mini ITX B4601 Gaming Edge Wifi with a SFX BN226 Be quiet PSU. The problem is that we could plug the main power cable on the motherboard but the CPU power cable contains 4 pins, and the motherboard has 8. The pc wouldnt boot. So we bought a 4 to 8 pins adapter but nothing happens, the pc still does not boot. We have checker all the plugs etc... we are stuck and we cannot find out the issues. Would you have any recommendations ? Thank you very much in advance !
12. So it all started when I was browsing PC parts forum and saw a guy selling a bunch of Dell refurb RX 640 4GB that were single slot, half-height cards for MYR230 (~USD50) with shipping. To the uninitiated the RX 640 is a rebranded RX 550. At the current market, this ain't a bad price for an RX 550 equivalent 4GB card. I also wanted to build something for my wheelchair-bound neighbour, since the lockdown life has been rough. And I kinda owe him my very identity because he was the one that gave me a copy of Warcraft 3 when I was a kid almost 20 years ago and it's PC gaming for life. Right now he's still using the very same Pentium 4 with Nvidia chipset on-board graphics PC he had all these years. So i bought it in a heartbeat (which was the right decision cause moments after it was all gone). It arrived 2 days later and lo and behold it is exactly as shyt as I expected it to be. PERFECT It only comes with DP and mini-DP but I can manage with a HDMI adapter since I bought a brand new Lenovo L24i-30 Freesync 1080p 75Hz monitor for my neighbour as well. The first thing that cane to mind was cheapo Dell SFF Optiplex that are available everywhere. I settled on the cheapest 2nd/3rd gen Intel one I could find since they are significantly cheaper than 4th gen and above in my region. I bought one with an i3 3240, 4GB DDR3 and 250GB RAM for MYR300 which I will all change out later. Now I went ahead and bought two sticks of 4GB DDR3 RAM for MYR100, then proceeded to sell the included 2 x 2GB DIMMS for MYR50 online. I also added in a Crucial BX500 480GB SSD (Which I regret not getting the 1TB later) for ~MYR250 and sold the 250GB HDD for MYR20. As a bonus I also bought a USB 3.0 half-height PCIE card for ~MYR40 which I will need to transfer all the games I want him to experience that he missed out for the past 20 years. Alright, now things are coming together. The insides are so compact and tight, let's see how're the thermals. Well, as expected the thermals are horrible. CPU is fine but GPU idles at 60°C, watching YouTube jumps to 70 °C and shoots to 94°C when gaming. I guess this is what happens when you cram an RX 550 into a wire mess SFF case with a dinky little 80mm intake and a single slot, half-height cooler. Let's try changing the fan to an Arctic P8 and see if we can get better thermals. Oh great, Dell even makes their fan header a 5-pin proprietary design. Guess I'll need to buy the fan adapter off Taobao and wait a week. Cost of the fan was MYR35, adapter with shipping was MYR8. In the meantime I decided to upgrade the i3 to an i5 3570S that I found for MYR160 with shipping, and I sold the i3 for MYR80. Cool I'll also repaste the GPU and add some thermal pads for the VRAM while I'm at it. ------------- Well a week has passed and my adapters are here, the Arctic P8 fit in snuggly and the adapter works. Buuuuuut, it was turning super slowly in stock config. Good thing I used Google and found that people use HWINFO to control fanspeed on Dells. HWINFO reports the Arctic P8 to be spinning at 7000rpm lol, I guess this is why it was spinning so slowly, the embedded controller was trying hard to slow it down. I guess Dell even has proprietary OWM singals. So I manually adjusted the fan profile, set HWINFO to start minimised with fan control on startup, voilà. Thermals are much more acceptable now. 50°C idle and 89 °C when gaming. Not like amazing but at least it ain't throttling. I loaded some of my favourite single player games: - DOOM 2016 -Quake Enhanced - Warcraft 3 - Homeworld Remastered - MGS V The Phantom Pain - RE2 Remake - Yakuza 0 - Starcraft 2 Trilogy - XCOM Enemy Unknown - Civ VI - Skyrin Special Edition This is where I regret not getting the 1TB model cause there were so many more games that I wanted to load on for him to enjoy. Oh well, this is what I'm sticking with. All in all I'm quite pleased with this build, it costed quite cheap during the PC parts shortage. DOOM was running at 50fps at 1080p; RE2, Yakuza 0 and The Phantom Pain at high 60fps+ Not bad at all Parts list: - Dell Optiplex - MYR300 - RX 640 4GB - MYR230 - i5 3570S - MYR160 - 2 x 4GB DDR3 - MYR100 - Crucial BX500 480GB with 3.5" cage - MYR250 - Arctic P8 with adapter - MYR43 - SFF USB 3.0 card - MYR40 Sold i3 for MYR80 Sold 2 x 2GB for MYR50 Sold 250GB HDD for MYR20 Total system cost ~MYR975 = USD235 Monitor was another ~MYR500 = ~USD120 I had some unopened bundled Dell keyboard and mice lying around to be gifted with this rig as well.
13. Hi! Im looking for an SFX PSU to replace my current 650 watt SFX PSU. For whatever reason 650W isnt cutting it anymore, and when I used two PSU's (One external for experiment purposes) games such as AC Valhalla worked fine, but with just the 650W one, it would BSOD on bootup of AC. Which of the two PSU's would be a better option? The Corsair one has better reviews and I trust Corsair more, and the CM one has more watts and has worse reviews. Thanks for any help! 14. [Solved] Update: Put a much more powerful 120mm fan in replacing the SP100 that was there. Temps have dropped 30 degrees. So I am having some temperature problems in my small form factor build sleeper PC build. (Photos below) To give an idea of the dimensions the entire case is the same footprint exactly as a mATX motherboard. Specs: Ryzen 5600X (stock cooler) MSI RTX 3060 16 GB 3600hz memory 750 watt corsair SFX PSU Pictures below are old. The changes are the PSU is upside-down with a fan mounted outside the case to pull air through then the PSU fan is not on. (not the best idea but limited options) The cables around the CPU are moved to make it more clear over there. Other difference is the GPU is now a 3060 instead of the pictured 770TI. The only ventilation is the entire front and that tiny slit you can see pictured in the back. As well as the GPU and PSU vents. 120mm Fan in the front pulls air in. Now for the issues... Running Cinebench R23 for 10 minutes puts me at 95 degrees or close to it. Any games that push the CPU at all will get me 95 as well. After messing around with some small fans and not making much progress I am thinking about getting a 120mm AIO for where the 120mm fan is. I would need to find a thin AIO as there is not much space. Does anyone have a suggestion for a thin radiator AIO or an entirely different solution. ---------------- GPU temperatures are fine (for now). Pretty much has its own section down there where it can pull air in the front and blow it out the back.
15. Is there any negative to a SFX psu? longevity? when compared to a standard ATX? I recently motherboard swapped my one system and the board is bigger. I've considered removing the 120mm fan from the psu and adding a pair of 40mm to the rear or finding alternative psus. I have just a hair over 3in for psu height so swapping to a SFX would fit I just didn't know if their was a lower life expectancy or any negatives to SFX vs ATX, it has the 24pin 2(eps12v) and 8 4pin connectors as well as a few pcie and sata. Not enough slots to plug everything but enough to use the cables that i need. My other option is to order a flex atx or server psu and use a breakout board. A different case or board is not an option. So is there a negative to SFX? this is the unit I'm looking at unless there are any better suggestions? 16. Hi everyone! I got very lucky recently and managed to grab a 3080 fe from Best Buy at msrp. My current system is a 5800x and a 2070s. I’d also like to downsize my case from my 570x to a lian li 011 mini, but unfortunately my 750w cooler master v power supply will not fit in the new case, seeing as it is atx. I am seeing that my only real option is the Corsair sf750 for a 750w sfx power supply, but 180-200 bucks is a bitter pill for no performance improvement at all. Could I get away with a fractal ion 650 or something similar with my new setup? Or will those 3080 power spikes be too much? thanks for any advice!
17. Hi, I'm planning to build a CM NR200P ITX with 5600X and 3060 Ti, which of these PSU will be a better choice? Budget (including currency): 1200 Country: Spain Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 1080p and 1440p gaming and future 4K Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hi, I need help deciding parts for my itx build. I am using currently ryzen 1600 build, and I can reuse the ram and the gpu. Going intel requires ddr5 (which is really expensive and I already have a decent kit). Wait for 7000 series maybe too long when a good value itx am5 board comes out. I will keep my 2060super until 40 series comes out. It works well in 1080p. 21. Hey everyone! Don't know how many of you need this, but I figured I'd post here in case someone out there runs into a similar situation as I did. I have the Corsair SF600 and a little over a year ago, the fan started to make a horrible grinding noise. I didn't want to take the fan apart to try to figure out the source because the fan noise was a little too much for me to begin with, even before the grinding sound. So as a temporary solution, because I didn't want to shell out money for a new SFX psu or replace the fan with a brown and ivory Noctua NF-A9x14, I removed the Corsair fan, popped a 92mm BeQuiet fan on top of the SF600, and connected it to the CPU fan header on my motherboard. In terms of noise and temps, this solution worked very well, but because the clearance between the tempered glass and the BeQuiet fan was so tight in the Lian Li PC-O5SX, I opted to do without the tempered glass until I found a more permanent solution... That permanent solution was the Noctua NF-A9x14 HS-PWM chromax.black.swap! Noctua sneakily released the chromax version of the NF-A9x14 back in November 2019 and I had no idea they were even a thing until I checked randomly late last Friday night. I was waiting forever for Noctua to release this exact fan so I immediately ordered it directly from Noctua's ebay page. They shipped from Austria to New York in just 3.5 business days, even with all the crazy shipping delays happening in New York because of the coronavirus, how awesome is that?! Anyways, I was finally able to ditch the BeQuiet fan and replaced it with the NF-A9x14 chromax fan and it fit inside the SF600 like a glove! I still plugged it into the CPU fan header though because I was not trying to splice and solder the SF600 fan connection to the Noctua fan...especially because I read on another forum that the Noctua fan may not spin up until the psu is under a heavier load, which I prefer not to happen...But now, after over a year of looking pretty janky, I was finally able to put the tempered glass side panel back on and my SF600 is cool and whisper quiet thanks to Noctua. Before and after pics below! TL;DR: You can replace your Corsair SF series power supply fan with the Noctua NF-A9x14 HS-PWM chromax.black.swap. You may want to do this even if the fan isn't broken for the aesthetic and wayyy quieter fan
22. Hey all: I've been watching a ton of LTT videos on YT recently, and it inspired me to finally replace my laptop that has been dying a slow horrible death for a longtime. I haven't built a system in 2 decades, and I stopped following hardware progression when game hardware requirements outpaced my system about 15 years. I'm going for a small form factor/htpc/gaming machine. I ordered all of the parts last weekend, and I'm waiting for the last few parts to show up this coming week. 23. I recently built a mini its computer in the silverstone rvz01 and I ordered custom length cable mod cables for the build. I bought silverstone's sx500-lg thinking it would be enough for the system and now I see I am going to need their 600 watt PSU. Will those same CableMod cables work with the sx600-g or will I need to get new cables?
24. The Silverstone SST-SX800-LTI is a fully modular 800W SFX PSU that is rated at an efficiency rating of 80+ Titanium! Crazy and seems stupid, but I do actually have a use for this. I want to make a custom mATX case capable of running 2 GPUs in SLI/Crossfire that really puts the "micro" in the name. The case is designed to be 1 foot tall, 1 foot deep, and 140mm thick. To accomplish this, as you can imagine, I need a small PSU. That's where this PSU comes in. Given such a low demand the only seller I was able to find is eBay. I have several questions and concerns regarding this power supply. One of the questions I have is, well, is it any good? the SX 700W was rated a Tier 4 on the PSU Tier List but given this is a 800W and a Titanium it might be higher rated. Another question I have, what kind of power draw does two of the most power hungry GPUs in SLI/Crossfire draw? Should I stick with an 800W or would dropping down to a 750W or even 700W be fine? Lastly, overall, what SFX PSU should I buy, Im interested in one rated well and, more importantly, one that can supply power demands of pretty much anything I can throw at it.
25. I built this because I didn't want to pay over $100 for a Lian Li or Dan Case case. Feel free to ask any questions about how you can replicate it. Build pecs are- reference RX 480, i3 6300, 450 watt SFX power suply, and some random Seagate 3.5" HDD.
