Hi all Im working on an HP ProLiant DL385 Gen 7 for work as a project. It is currently unused. It was reported some years ago (before I started ) that there was Malware on the Server. Is there a way to check if this is true and even if I reinstall Windows Server 2019 R2 on it - will it be safe to use? Any help would be appreciated Cheers! Shane

I just wanted to share a Server rack I made for about 22$ *not including the computers* I'm just super happy with the result I can have my dedicated minecraft server and Das with room for another PC The total for the whole thing was 15k php or around 300 USD The mc server has an i5 6500 With 20gb of ram And the Das/back up PC has an i7 3770 and RX 5700xt Through a year of saving and finding amazing parts deals I was able to get all this for about 300$

So I am in the process of setting up a Minecraft server and I got all the necessary files and things in place...or at least I think I do. But when I run the server I am unable to connect. For reference I am running an ark server from the same system which works perfectly. I have opened all the ports for it and it should be working but when I launch it I am still unable to join. My first point of interest is if you look at the command prompt, where it says: "starting Minecraft server on *:25565" is there supposed to be an IP address where the "*" is? Also I am pretty new to this stuff so if anybody needs more pictures or knows how to easily fix this I would appreciated it greatly.

Hello everyone! I've recently moved to Sweden, and i only had one choice of ISP, Tele2 - Now, i have their modem/router box, but i also have my AX3000 4-Stream Wi-Fi 6 Router that i use for game streaming in the house etc. i've tested it, using my personal router instead of using the modem/router as an access point is better for these uses. However, i seem entirely unable to port forward anything. Hi, First post on the forum! I'm trying to find out where I could obtain a server and I've been looking for places where I could find decommissioned servers for sale but all I've found are refurbished ones. I'm trying to get my hands on something like an HP Proliant DL380 Gen 8/9 LFF to use it both as a NAS and as a hosting server for game servers, web hosting, plex and other applications. Does anyone know of anywhere I could find some good deals, even if only periodically? Thanks

I've read alot of posts about whether you need ECC or not before but I'm having trouble piecing it together for my own scenario. I run 2 Dell Optiplex's with ESXi and a Synology with Btrfs. VMs go on the nas over iscsi and there's some smb fileshares on there too. I store all my design work, including that for clients, past and current work on that nas. But there is no ECC in my datacenter at all. Should I be concerned? I heard that different filesystems needed it more. Is that true? I get the idea of ECC but like, I don't have it on my workstation or MacBook. Isn't it just as possible that my work could get corrupted on my workstation as it could while being processed in my homelab? I have Veeam backups of the vms and file shares to the same nas and to the cloud but I don't open every file every 90 days, which is my retention period, so I guess it's possible for a file to get corrupted and go undetected until the good copy in backup has been aged out? What are your thoughts on if I should invest in ECC workstations, hosts, storage, or other solutions and please let me know why. I'm curious. Charles

Hello, I am having issues with setting up TrueNAS core and connecting it to AD. The initial setup for AD went on without an issue. I have all the windows shares (smb) ACL settings configured and assigned to the AD Group my test profile is under. I am not able to see or map the drive on my windows login. I am sure I am missing a step or something but based on all the documentation i have read and videos I have watched once the data sheet is connected to the AD group every time people logged in to the user in a group, they could see the drive. PLEASE HELP!

Okay, So lets get started with what i need advice about! I need a server, a pretty beefy one! its purposes are hosting vms that are running game servers i have .. well had a decently growing network of game servers on a few games CS:GO MineCraft .. and so on i was paying for server space from a individual not from a company for way cheaper he unfortunately had to drop me for reasons i am fully content with and understand, i cant neccesarily discuss bc of respect and private matters! I am aware that owning a server is not a 1 and done solution to my issue as there is server maintenance and security and networking solutions i personally feel as if security isnt much of a problem mostly because im going to be the only user and the server will not be storing important data maintenance shouldnt be an issue saying pcs usually last long times and have low chances of malfunctions Im just trying get my game servers back up without having to deal with 3rd party server providers i have a 1000$ budget and i am prioritizing cores and ram i hope that whoever can point me in the best direction to help me out sees this and i would love any and every bit of advice on what to do where to look and i mean hey if you have a server you want to sell maybe im interested So to summarize I need a Server that Is speced out to have the most cores and ram 1000$ can afford new used refurbished just what ever can get me back on track! Hello! so my friend is selling a Cisco 7609 router for $200 and I didn't know if this was overkill for a server rack that's running two dell m100e blade centers and 5 dell r710 servers along with 2 dell r610 servers. I was looking at 10gbe routers that work with fiber optics and couldn't find much that worked for my needs if anyone knows of any good 10gbe sfp+ routers that would be helpful. because the Cisco 7609 is very big but it can provide the speed for sure. please give me some feed back on what you think I should do it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I wanna get some advice and tips on building a data storage server that is as responsive as possible for my upcoming cloud service. It will use HTTPS to communicate with clients and Set/Get data from a specified datastore. There will be the required key, name and ID. A good use would be save data for games. I have the requests go through Cloudflare before going into my network. My connection is gigabit and I have my old setup that consists of reused modems being used as switches. I made a new Minecraft server and went to add ram using this java -Xmx4000M -Xms4000M -exe Minecraft_Server.exe -o true PAUSE Then labeled it "file server launcher.bat " but I am still only seeing the original 2gigs Does anyone know if there is a fix or and trouble shooting ideas?

Hello, I was wondering if anybody had suggestions on suggestions for server rack monitoring software? I have a raspberry pi with raspbian and 2 servers with Unraid on them, and was wondering if there was a way to have the sense hat from the pi and the statistics from Unraid export to a page, or if there are any alternative softwares that I could use. id like to manage storage space, cpu temps/utilization, ram usage, network, ect. let me know if anybody has any suggestions!

Currently just got myself a dell t420 server with a perc h710 raid card and i have 4 4tb drives. i plan to set them up in raid 10. Currently when i set them up in the raid card bios its raid 10 with 2 spans each with 4tb each. But when i go into windows server 2016 and try to set it up the only storage type i can use is simple and not mirror. Is this normal and i should just select normal and move on or am i doing something wrong? Cheers

Hi All! I would love some advice regarding my home lab setup. Below is my current hardware and some features and functions I would like my home lab data center to accomplish! I have 3 Dell PowerEdge r710 and 1 Dell PowerEdge r410 a few of the servers have all HHD's and a few have SSD's. All except the r410 have RAID PERC controllers. One r710 has a Nvidia GT 1030. I also run a Mac OS server with an external RAID 5 hard drive using SMB for a file share. This is my main File share server and it gets the job done but it is less than ideal when I have all of these servers. I have yet to transfer all the data from the Mac server to one of my PowerEdge machines because of a lack of stability in my home lab "data center" setup. I have been playing around with Proxmox and setting up my home lab "datacenter" and experimenting with all the stuff you can do with hypervisors and servers. Everything that I have set up has not stuck or has been inadequate lacking a main feature or function that I'm looking for in my ideal home lab. That leads me to the functionality that I am looking for. For starters, a major requirement is running a hypervisor. Proxmox was recommended to me but I'm willing to learn something else if given a good enough reason. A major requirement is to passthrough all my GPU's to my VM's. I also need hot-swap capabilities for my storage because I can't afford to fill up all my r710's currently. I am willing to go to a software-defined storage model instead of utilizing PERC controllers. I would also like the ability to run storage pools and resource pools. In an ideal world, I also would like to tie the Mac Server into the mix using this storage as extra probably backup capacity. (every time I have tried to SMB connect it to Proxmox it fails.) Ideally, I also have some sort of replication that is occurring for redundancies. Can someone guide me in the right direction to accomplish these requirements? Am I using the wrong hypervisor? Do I need to get rid of the PERC controllers? What is the best way to configure these? I look forward to hearing the communities opinion and advice. Thanks in advance! ~Googs55
