It will be compatible with many future components; Black panels on top, bottom and both sides; front will have metal mesh and dust filter; rear will have only metal mesh; About 40mm (1.6") for cable management behind mobo; I will screw in some plastic feets to rise the case from the floor; There'll be place for HDDs and SSDs There'll be holes on the top where the cpu cooler's fan will blow; I already bought some polypropylene black panels 1mm and some aluminium angle profiles. I think I'll spend about 100€ for this case. After cutting the materials, here some steps I'll follow to bring it together: I think getting here is pretty straightforward... I'll make the holes for the I/O shield and PCI cards on the top panel; Then, I'll mount the mobo on its support; At this time, I should be able to put it into the case and then finish with the missing components; A little detail: I'll use 3 screws and bolts for every corner on the aluminium frame I'm sure I forgot something... So I got a used Kallax 4x4 shelf for free and wanted to incorporate it into my living room setup.. Only problem was.. my case is normal ATX and stands in a place where it later couldn't stand anymore because the Kallax is supposed to go there.. So the only logical thing anyone can think of is of course to search for an ATX case that would fit inside a Kallax. Measurements are 33x33x39 ATX is 30.5x24.4 So there should be a fitting case, right? Wrong! Now I have to build one myself because I'm to stubborn to relocate my PC down on the floor or high up on the Kallax (1.5m high). For cooling I thought about 2 front intakes, one top intake and one rear exhaust. Case is supposed to be 32cm wide, 29cm high (without feet), and about 37cm deep. Front, back and side panels will be made from 0.8mm Aluminum (should be thick enough) while the bottom, middle and top panel will be made from 0.75mm steel. In the bottom compartment goes the PSU and the SSD's. (Don't know if I'll need extra ventilation for this space) Then on top of the PSU goes the middle plate on which I will mount the mainboard and everything else. Hey guys, I just want to show you the results of my deskmodding and some pictures of the construction. At first some "blueprints": It all started with a large board of 28mm thick mdf and some smaller pieces with 19mm for the "pc-box". I wish I had more pictures of the early stages but I didn´t think that this project will get that big. So here are some pictures of the framing: After that I made the holes for the speaker I got from older sony speakers and the left one also got a hole for the cd-drive. While I waited for some hardware I got some cheap drawers which helped me to gather some stability for the heavy board. Since I still waited for the hardware I needed to continue, I started to round the edge of the tabletop... Then one day..finally..the fan control arrived and got its place at the back that is used as a cable channel. Besides that my uncle made me some metal sheets.One for the fans and another one just for visuals. ...and yes I started to prime the speakers because there was still missing some hardware. However I started to fit my monitor in by removing the base and drilling a hole for it. Some days later I finally got the amplifier for the speakers which of course instantly got its place at the back. Then I shaped the hole for the glass panel I forgot to order.. Soon after this was done I primed the rest of the parts which took me a while (Everything had to be primed in parts). I sanded the parts and sprayed them black. Slowly coming to the end I started to fit my pc in the box. In order to make the parts easy changeable I removed the backplate with the IO from my old case. It took me a while to get all the parts in there I decided to do a double-layered bottom to have a better cable management. For this my dad made me two extra aluminium sheets I put next to the backplate.(Can´t be seen at these pictures) And that´s almost the end of the project Some details later (LED stripes,power button,carbon foiling,cable management,missing sata cables and more..) I wanted a small case without a window that looks very neat and premium. As I couldn't find such a thing and i had a little time to spend, I thought why not build one myself. Wood is very easy to work with (you can just glue everything together), looks amazing and isn't too expensive. I really like the looks of the dark wood combined with matte metal. Here are some pictures: nearly finished case first design on the left, later design on the right (sketchup) final design interieur layout, gpu not shown for better visibility. the cables come out the top. Both the top panel and the rear panel are removable. The first for accessing all the I/O ports on the motherboard / GPU, the latter for maintenance. Moving on with some pictures of the building process: front I/O cutouts with recesses (made with a dremel), for (top to bottom): headphone jack, microphone jack, 2x USB3.0, vandal on / off switch bottom panel with cutout and recess for the SFX power supply. It draws air from the buttom and exhausts it out of the left side. Motherboard tray mounted to the side panel. The two rails were used from an old case, mounted to an aluminum sheet. All of the inside was coated with a layer of graphite "paint" and earthed (EMI protection) Thats the top panel with the motherboard cutout. On the top theres the reset switch and the HDD LED (not visible from the front) and a fan grill. Thats the finished build from the back. The back panel holds on with 2 magnets to the metal brackets. The fan was mounted on the CPU heatsink in pull, so that there's no problem exhausting the air out of the back (since there are no more fans). A plastic shroud prevents the hot PSU air from circulating inside the case. The SSD is mounted with velcro underneath all of those cables. The PSU is (kind of ghetto-) mounted so that it's decoupled from the case, since wood would amplify and vibrations. There are dust filters on all the intake perforated metal shields (bottom) The system is extremely quiet (inaudible for me over the very quiet hissing of my speakers). Max CPU temps registered are 57 degrees celsius after prime 95 small FTT's stress test (BIOS setting:silent, stock CPU cooler fan). The wood used is 18mm thick acacia glued wood. The motherboard cutout panel is a 3ish mm MDF panel. Side lengths of the sqare base is 300mm (outer), height is 375mm (without the feet). The feet are round matte lian li case stands. Specs: -i5-7500 (relying on iGPU so far, but there would be space for a mini edition GPU) -AsRock Z270M-ITX/ac motherboard -Thermalright True Spirit 140 Power CPU cooler with stock fan -8GB of corsair valueselect DDR4-2133 MHz RAm -Corsair SF450 SFX modular PSU -500GB Samsung 850 evo 2.5" SSD I'm fully aware that the specs are nothing special and it's not suitable for gaming. Well guess what, i wont be gaming on it, i wanted a quiet, stylish office / media / browsing the web kind of pc. If i would want to play some games i can add something like a 1050ti later. I know as well that a Z motherboard is kind of useless with a non-K SKU CPU, it was the only decent available here... It´s a bit like Caselabs and Parvum Systems. [CLOSED] After more research my current build has many different parts now PCPartPicker Im going to keep it short: Can you look at my PcPartPicker-list and tell me what you think? Do you have recommendations for better parts for the same price? I live in Germany (parts are a bit more expensive). My Budget is 1300€ (due to higher costs about the same as in dollar). Im mainly going to play games and do Webbrowsing but ill also use Photoshop once in a while. Btw: I want to have a red color sheme (as you can see on the case, mb, ram, gpu etc...) Thanks!
