I had a Tp-link router, WR841N, a very basic router. My Xiaomi camera had no issue connecting to it, but it doesn't seem to work on a newer model Tp-link Archer C20 router. The wifi bars in the Xiaomi Home app are greyed out when the C20 router is listed. Is there a way to get the camera to work on my current router? does the camera have issues with some routers in particular?

Hello, So I would like to encrypt my PC drives. It's all well and good to have secure passwords but you can easily take out a drive and plug it into another PC, load up linux and see everything. I'm trying to avoid that scenario. What types of protection do you use for your drives?

Hey guys, today I wanted to fix the secure boot error with Valorant on Win11. I booted into the BIOS changed from CSM to UEFI then enabled Secure Boot After a restart I realized the display wasn't outputting anything - tried to reboot again - nothing. After that i started to try everything - from clearing the CMOS to changing to a different GPU and also tried every display output I had available in every state the PC was in in the last 3 hours. Problem probably is that my graphics card isn't detected in UEFI mode and the CPU doesn't have integrated graphics. The only thing I didn't try was flashing the bios but only because I don't have a Flash Bios Button and the only other way to do this would be in the BIOS settings - which I can't access. Maybe someone knows this error and has an answer for me because I don't. TL;DR problem: Display doesnt output after secure boot was enabled - tried everything - nothing worked Specs: CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 GPU: Geforce RTX 2060 MB: MSI B350 Gaming Plus Please help - thank you, nightclaw

Great idea for a video on taking back control of my data or securing my data. very much up LTT street. Okay I screwed up and my outlook account was hacked and while i got my money back i lost pretty much everything else. all my files including photos of my dead son. I lost not only my emails but also the email address's as well (thank god its not a work email, *shudder* my contacts and my calendar oh and my uni work(though i have no use for it now it still sucks) I managed to rescue some stuff as some of it was on different drives around my machines. anyway to the thing i need help on I have been bitten and now i want to control my data as best as possible. I want to house or at least have a downloaded copy of all my essentials. Here is a list of things I want to house on my home server i'm building with either an online copy or constant access to it. I prefer the idea that the main Information is housed on my server and there is a copy online which I can access anywhere. that way if something happens at home then i got a copy on something like google and a backup on my file storage. basicly i want 3 copies of all my information, Home, website and online backup. (eventually i intend to have a 4th copy in an offsite backup location like my parents house) Currently the list of important things I need help with are Email Access/storage: (also like the idea of emails coming dirrect to me instead of online service but I fear things like power cuts would make that less a good idea) Currently my domain is with godaddy and my hosting is with hostpapa and i can download a backup copy of my emails from there. I have my emails downloaded to thunderbird app. This gives me 2 copies and i can arrange to manualy download it for backup purposes. Is there a better solution? Contacts: Since I lost my contacts its been hard to function and i'm currently using the contacts CardDav that part of my hostpapa email. It currently downloads to thunderbird but I cant find a program thats free on android for my phone so I need a better solution. again i want to access my contacts on my pc, phone and have my normal backups. Calendar: well loosing my calendar data actually cost me money I missed out on so many appointments and software renewals that is not a joke. I'm currently using my wife's callendar but my email hostpapa also has CalDav which is supposed to be a calendar server i can access anywhere, except i only got it working on thunderbird. Tasks: I don't use tasks as much as I want simply because i have had so many problems accessing them on different devices quickly. as you may have noticed i user thunderbird alot and i love the app on my pc and steam deck(main portable device, I use the desktop mode primarily and it works great) however they are still working on a mobile app and have joined with another app developer but its going to be time before its all sorted. so please help me secure my data and files. I currently use a file storage site called Currys Cloud Backup. I think they use livedrive as there software (not sure) anyway i like the cost and the speed is okay, just wish it had a linux program. so to reiterate I need software that works on android, windows/linus(mac too for anyone else) a website backup like google/outlook (though out of principle i refuse to let micrososft have any more data of mine cause of the way they screwed me over) and server software for the server i'm building. (I havent decided what OS I'm going to use on the server yet, hell I'm not even sure if its going to be a raspberri pi or an old pc yet.) anyway any and all help would be greatly appreciated Kuzon

Hello! So I have recently created a bootable USB for Linux(Live CD) so I can install it to my hard drive(Ubuntu 18.04 to be exact). I am currently booted from it but the thing is I want to completely erase the hard drive before I install Linux to it , not only format it. In short words I want to nuke it before I install so I can start fresh. There is an option in the disks utility of Ubuntu that is called erase and that is selectable when you format a hard drive. Is that what I am looking for? Will that secure erase all data on the hard drive? I have selected it and this is how things look(image below). So do I need to run some command or something else after that or the hard drive will be erased and no traces of data will be left on it?

I am going to start a project and it is going to be a Home Network. On this network I want everything that can be wired...wired. That way I can control the wireless access better. All wired access will be controlled with mac addressed ports. Wireless connection will be highly monitored. Preferably through both software and hardware. Preferences: -Security first -QOS second So for the average house hold what hardware does the community suggest? Approx tree: 1 2=2 3/2/3 (Then wireless area) low priority Can draw up more detailed plans, just want to see the cost, and hardware suggestions.

Hi! I was asking myself how I could secure my network from Client PC's that I repair and fix in my home? Like how could I be sure nothing harmful goes through my network if the client had an infected PC? (Let's say i need to download drivers or games/software on it and the client PC is not on my desk for Virus removal but for general stuff) Thank you all in advance!

Over the past few months I've periodically been hounded to try either Kik or Discord as a secondary means of communication between my online friends. However no offense to them intended, but I just don't trust anyone enough to use anything I thought was similar to Skype or social media. After finally researching them though I actually can't find anything wrong with. Apparently Discord is DDOS proof & Kik doesn't expose any personally identifiable information either, claiming to be a very secure messaging app. Although I know malicious attachments embedded within pics, videos or links could possibly be sent with either, here are my questions about that & more. 1: Is Discord or Kik really DDOS proof & how exactly do they go about hiding your IP when Skype still doesn't? 2: Is there a setting within Discord or Kik to automatically block images, videos, links or any other specified attachment yet still use the text & voice chat? 3: Are there any other security & privacy vulnerabilities with either app that I should be aware of before using?

I am currently on Linux using 'shred' to write random data to my hard drive. The HDD is 750GB. As you know, not all of that is available to the user and some is used for journaling, to replace bad sectors and other reasons, such as to hold data from the manufacturer. Please note that this hard drive came with a Lenovo laptop. Hence I assume it has a hidden partition with backup data for Windows. However I formatted this hard drive to be used in my desktop, before the laptop was chucked in the trash. I would like to securely erase that data if possible. How can I securely erase all data? As I understand, there is a SATA Secure Erase command which can be used through hdparm. There is some uncertainty online due to a lack of agreed standards that this will securely erase all that data. My question is, would hdparm securely erase the data? If the answer is no or you don't know, then at the very least, will shred have securely erased any data that I saved in the main/ only primary partition? The hard drive has been used in my desktop for a few months already and since some data was saved unencrypted, I would like to securely erase it. I would like to erase that data at the very least. So to clarify, at the very least, I want to securely erase data that I saved to the drive in the last few months while it was acting as merely another hard drive in my desktop. Windows was running off a separate drive - an SSD - not off this HDD.

Hey Team, I disabled secure boot so I could try and wipe my hard drive and do a fresh install of windows from a USB on my old laptop HP 14 Notebook Model: 4-d001au running Windows 8.1 I saved and exited from the BIOS menu and since then when I turn it on I get just a blank screen with no option to enter into BIOS settings and windows does not load. I tried pressing every button ESC (which is how i usually get into the BIOS) F10 F8 F12 DEL etc and cannot get into anything. Please any help will be great!!

Irrelevant storyline: A Hotel in Italy provides access to a shared pool, shared with 3 other hotels. At checkin you receive a wristband, similar to what you get at festivals, etc.. When you want to go in the pool, you have to put the band on your wrist, and scan it at a walkthrough cross thing, similar to london underground or at the airport. Question: Does someone of you guys know what kind of technology is used for this system? Maybe you can recognise it from the pictuere provided. The wristband is essentially made of plastic, Yellow color on the outside, white on the inside. on the wider part, there is (maybe printed) the name of the pool area displayed. On the inside of the wider part, there is a circuit looking thing, which seems to be the part of the access technology used. If you know some details about this technology plesase, share even if you are not 100% sure. Thank you in advance, and sorry for possible language mistakes and stupidness. (I thought it could be something RFID related) Thanks for the help, Cracmeister

Hey guys so I have a Samsung s8 plus and I want to get rid of whatever deleted data I have on my phone before I give it away also how would you purge the security folder of any data that may be left in it. Also I'm dead broke so hopefully there's some programs out there you guys can help me find or some out of the box thinking about how to go about getting rid of all deleted data. Just one more thing. Is there a video or maybe someone can explain to me how the storage works on phones and how the secure folder works? Thanks in advance, ?

Reader, I am looking for a storage solution that will meet my needs for personal back up better than my current solution. My current solution is a WD passport 1TB, which is several years old and probably on its last legs, ergo the thought into upgrading. My backed up storage requirements are still within the 1-2tb range and i wont need much more for a while i don't think so a mild investment is acceptable. Due to my lack of knowledge into the personal back up world i have not really though of a budget so just realistic solutions would be nice, cheaper the better of course. Im looking for the storage to be: Relatively Fast (my current WD passport is so slow for copying and accessing, cant even watch a video) 1tb minimum but prefer 2tb unless I'm sacrificing space for cost effective speed. Secure! Some kind of encryption, or password protection, or something. Doesn't HAVE to be portable, but I'm not too good with servers and Cloud base storage, but I'm willing to learn if its advantageous enough. (would probably still need Cable access for speeeeds) Probably some other things but i cant think of them off the top of my head. My realistic use of this device or product is to back up my PC/Laptop's In one go (right now its really slow and i only back up personal or critical files, to which i clean regularly) then once i have performed said back up, i would store it away somewhere safe/ turn it off. So security and speed are my main focuses. I'm not to bothered about cloud access or network storage, but open to learn it and work on it if it is SUPER worth it, considering my use case. Thanks to all those who read and/or help! Have a lovely day.

I have been messing around with server builds for the last couple years now, nothing crazy always made from older used tech. They have always served their purpose but lead me to wonder if I can go even cheaper or if I should scale up for more use/better performance. I'm looking to run servers for the following games simutaneously, 7 Day To Die x 1, Ark Survival Evolved x 6, Minecraft x 2, and possibly more in the future. My main server setup is an Intel board with dual Xeon 5450? I think and 16gb of ddr2 ecc ram. It has run the 7dtd and Minecraft server at same time with no issue but don't think it could handle another 6 ark servers as well. The other issue is I would like to find a security solution as that server was hacked and hard disk encrypted to try to scam me of money. Luckily it was only used for those game servers so I disposed of that hard drive. However I would like to also prevent this from happening again. so all in all my questions are what is the cheapest option to be able to run all those servers simultaneously and once it's running now can I protect it from being hacked. Thanks in advance

the tl;dr - how do you, or your company protect active directory? Curious about solutions out there. Would you put AD in a management vlan only to open every port that every service listens on anyway, or throw it into the user space? You can't attack a service that isn't running, and workstations/servers/users need damn near every service that does run... RPC, LDAP, Kerberoes, SMB, DNS, and some other junk I'm probably forgetting. You quickly learn to use groups/aliases for all these damn ports - but to what avail? If you expose it what's the point of segmenting it? One thing I've recently seen a company do is their management network runs in a separate forest, and their user space runs on a different forest - with no trust relationships. On one hand this certainly minimizes the impact of a breach, but it sounds like a freaking nightmare.

"Arguing you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about freedom of speech because you have nothing to say." Edward Snowden In this day and age, privacy is a joke. Literally. I've joked about it with friends, family, and random people from the internet. It's become an expectation to be spied on by the government, companies, and random people. This guide will help you be more private, anonymous and secure online I want to help you make it harder for people to spy, keep records, target you etc. on you. If you have anything to say about this, don't be afraid to say something. I'm a big boy who can take CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. Don't complain without saying how it could be better 4 Notes 1: There will be links to videos and websites, I am not affiliated with these people or companies. They are another resource, to fact check, go into more detail, or be presented in a way that you prefer or like better. 2: The idea of privacy being a right, and privacy in general, can be political. My belief is that privacy is for everyone, regardless of who they are. 3: No solution is 100% bullet proof. The way you type, the way you talk, the way you use a mouse, what you search for, can all be traced back to you. I wouldn't worry about those micro things, unless you're Snowden. 4: Privacy is not always convenient. It's up to you if you want to be completely anonymous (or almost) online. Even if you just stop using some of Google's services, that reduces your online foot print and creation of data. Network connections (VPNs, Tor) Browser and Search Engine Social Media Phone Security Computer security (desktops and laptops) Additional resources This is a work in progress. I encourage feedback. I want this to be the ultimate written privacy and anonymity guide. I will continue adding onto this in the future.

Hi, I want to make my first custom keyboard and because I want a 96% format it's a pain in the ass to find keycaps that I like, and the only way I've found is by buying different keycaps sets and mixing them myself. But I want a design that requires me to spend more on the sets of keycaps than the case, pcb, etc... The only keycaps set I've found that I like is this one : https://iqunix.store/products/f96-cyber-space-wireless-mechanical-keyboard?variant=31181579190332 the link is to a keyboard but they also sell the keycaps alone. I've never heared of that website before and can't find any information about if I can trust them or not. I also can't find the set elsewere. So I have 2 question does anyone know if IQunix website can be trusted ? And do you know websites selling keycaps, that are safe to buy on and that ships to France ? Because the only one I search on is AliExpress, and because their search engine sucks so mutch you have to spend an absurde amount of time to hopefully find what you searched for. Thanks for any help !

Hello, I would like to know what the best way would be to COMPLETELY WIPE my Windows 10 PC. I want to start out from scratch, including a new Windows install, plus I don't need any of my previous data (I've already backed it up). The reason: I just simply wish to start over + I'm going to be selling/giving away some of my SSD's and HDD's, so I want to make sure that absolutely NO DATA is LEFT behind. Thank you all in advance for the help, appreciate it!

I work for a small business as a manufacturing engineer and used to use a Dell SonicWall VPN to remote into the LAN from home when I needed to. However, Comcast "upgraded" some of the business hardware [insert derogatory ISP joke here] and changed the firewall. Now, the SonicWall VPN is broken and the new firewall is apparently super difficult to configure for it. The business owner wants us to use Splashtop Business to remote in to available workstations since its license is supposed to be cheaper, but this doesn't work well with SolidWorks/CAD software due to the 1 second lag. Also, it is difficult to impossible to transfer files from the LAN to a local machine (apparently you can do it now, but the process still doesn't look quite as nice as the VPN setup). Lastly, it requires a workstation to remote into. None of us should assume there will always be one open, especially if the company grows and they hire more people. Is there an inexpensive VPN option I can suggest to IT and management? Splashtop Business is $60 per year, per user from what I understand. https://www.sonicwall.com/en-us/home https://www.splashtop.com/business

Good security camera software for IP cameras on windows?
Shadow_Storm56 posted a topic in Networking
I had asked before last time I had issue and got some suggestions for software but then my issues were fixed and I kept using my iffy software. So here I am again looking for new suggestions for a software for windows 10 for my security cameras. Currently using dcs100 aka d-viewcam aka main console and it works and then stops and it likes to do strange glitches where it fights AV and malware software... so if anyone had a suggestion for a software similar to that in function and ability but better and well supported then that would be awesome.- 13 replies

wifi Making open Wi-Fi secure from anyone with a smartphone
Guest posted a topic in General Discussion
Hello, My intention is to make it secure from the basic instruments to manipulate Wifi and do a mitm attack. I can just host a wifi the same name as an airport or hotel and a lot of people devices connects to my wifi directly without notice to the user. But using a special character that needs a license or at least an authorization for use to set as an ssid will make it immune to anyone with a cellphone. Would love if you can post this idea so the ieee responds with their action. I don't want fame or a patent. But a secure world is all I claim- 17 replies
