Hi. I am getting a deal for the following used laptop with less than a year of use and is in perfect working condition: HP ELITE BOOK 850 G8 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1145G7 @ 2.60GHz 16 GB RAM 512 GB SSD Touchscreen Display with 10 touchpoints 15,6" diagonal FHD display Intel Iris Xe Graphics On the HP website, it starts from $2000. On Amazon.com, it is available at $1,150. It is being offered to me for $500. Is it a good deal for 2023? will I get 2-3 years of life out of it? I will primarily use it for sales work and a little Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I was considering MSI Prestige 16 Evo. It will cost me $1641. I was eyeing it for its stellar battery backup. According to Notebookcheck, HP ELITE BOOK 850 G8 is getting around 8 Hrs of web browsing at 150 nits. I could settle for that amount but if it's accurate. The Elitebooks are workstations so I worry whether I will get that much battery backup. -
Hi! So I'm looking to buy a second hand gaming PC, but of course I'm a little worried about paying a large sum of money only to get home and find something broken. Do you have a good go-to method to verify that a second hand computer is working as expected, before you buy it? My first thought is to ask the seller to run a benchmark, but I'm not sure which free benchmark would be the best to test the entire system (CPU, RAM, GPU). Any ideas would be much appreciated! -
Hello there! tl;dr: What's a good place / resource to start learning about rack-mounted hardware? For my work (as a media/film composer) I need a lot of computing power on a daily basis and it's common (in this business) to use slave machines for this purpose. In my country (the netherlands) however, there are lot of second-hand HP Proliant (or alike) servers systems for sale which seem quite affordable for the computing power/amounts of ram they offer. Now I'm quite familiar with the standard pc hardware routine. But the thing that I'm a bit scared of is that a lot of these 2nd hand servers are rack-mounted solutions. Especially since I know that they can make a lot of noise and I don't really have a space in my housing where I can stuff a server rack in a closet (which wouldn't be a great idea cooling-wise anyway). Now my question is threefold: 1. What are the basics I have to know about rack-mounted hardware formats? (Would it be possible to adapt a rack mounted system into a 'standard' case? Or are there rack mounted chassis that allow for more silent cooling?) Where would be a good place / good resources to learn about this stuff? 2. Is there a reason why this is either a very good or very bad idea that I perhaps haven't considered? 3. If this is a feasible idea I might also want to use this slave as a host for a future website / nas. I suppose it would be possible to run a machine like this for multiple purposes simultaniously (considering I know some friends who are comfortable enough around this kind of software setup.), or am I overlooking something? As is probably evident from my post I'm not very familiar with this side of computing, so even very basic information/yourtube channels/forums/articles/books/etc... are welcome! I currently have a Dell Optiplex 980 for my private Minecraft server. I want a power efficient server which is not too loud. Should I continue buying more Dell Optiplex computers or should I switch to a cheaper alternative? -
Hello people c: , So I recently bought a pre-built office pc with a Core i5 2400 8gb of ddr3 ram windows 10 pro and a 400 HDD, this PC has a Micro Star ms 7707 motherboard and had a GT 210 installed in it which I swapped out for a AMD Radeon HD 6950 but the card only shows it booting and loading windows and then it just gives weird output flashing screen and so on , this happened/started while installing the drivers for the card and went on after that, so unistalling them should fix it right ? Wrong I tried that and I still got this weird screen flashing . If I put the gt 210 back in it it just works fine . At this point am a bit lost and not exactly sure what to do, so help would be greatly appreciated ! c: I am building this pc for my little sister because she wants to play roblox and minecraft. What happened to this gpu? It's an EVGA FTW GTX 1080. I saw it on my country's equivalent to Craigslist and it's listed as faulty and for repair or spare parts. What happened to it? I'm not really planning to buy it but I'm really curious about the issue it might have. My guess is burnt vrms or something similar.

I got an amazing Redditor willing to gift his 27" 1080p 144hz TN monitor and Ryzen 5600X completely free of charge. This is such a massive help already! My 77-year old neighbour has been using flight simulators for almost 30 years now, where he meets up with people on Teamspeak and fly routes together. He's genuinely one of the nicest people I've met, but the guy doesn't have a ton to spend unfortunately. He did mention planning on buying a larger monitor this year, but that a completely new PC is out of reach. That's why I want to gift him something nice, without absolutely breaking the bank. I was planning on getting something second hand, around €600,- or so (The Netherlands - $1 is pretty much equal to €1). I'm not in a hurry and don't mind waiting for some deals, but just wanted to gather some opinions on what to look out for. I'm pretty experienced building PCs, but I've almost never used the 2nd hand market. So any advice on what to look out for or skip is super appreciated! I found this build on my local Craigslist for $550, which seems to be a steal, but I'm hesitant to buy it seeing that it is in pieces and the pretty low price. So I have been using a second hand Corsair H80i I bought off Gumtree for about 2 - 3 months now, and it has been working perfectly with no issues. However, I recently saw a good deal for a H100i and nabbed it for £35 - the same price I paid for my H80i. I got it as I thought I could sell my H80i for a decent price fairly easily. So, my question is how safe are used AIO liquid coolers, how likely are they to fail or leak in some way? This H80i, as I said, has seen no problems, however one example of a second hand AIO is not enough data to come to a decent conclusion, so I would like to hear some of your opinions on this matter. -
Hi Guys, I'm looking to get back into programming - I did a bit at uni and thought ...why not build the computer myself too? It doesn't need to be super duper high spec but I would like to have the option to upgrade as I go (see if I take to it etc.). I was thinking on this basis that maybe I should invest in a good motherboard/SSD/...HD and then just decent other second hand components. - I'd like to be able to overclock - to learn about it more than for performance gains ...to begin with anyway - I don't mind second hand ... or third hand for that matter (big price reduction?) - I'd like to have multiple cores and threads (as many as possible within reason) because I enjoyed learning MPI/OpenMP at uni and I want to play around with them - I will be running linux ubuntu (unless you have a better suggestion) - I DO NOT want to use this computer for gaming but I would eventually like to learn CUDA ... if you know what I mean - I will have 2 monitors Budget: ~£770.24 at the time of posting, preferably lower obvs ...but can go higher if I'm asking the impossible. (I live in the UK but that's around $1000) Spec: I bow to your superior wisdom ...but I was thinking an i7-6700/i7-6800 as a starting point. I would really appreciate any help from you kind, knowledgeable, attractive folk and I apologise if I have posed this request in an ignorant manner (no doubt the internet will subtly let me know if this is the case).

So there's this ad on my local second-hand selling site and I wondered if it was any good, or if it's just better to buy new. The ad goes as follows: Pentium G4560 GTX 1050ti Gigabyte B150M-HD3 motherboard Some no-brand 8GB of DDR4 2133mhz 600 watt PSU from Xilence a 'gamery' case 1080p 144hz 1ms monitor that's actually pretty decent For this he's asking 550 euros, or about $650. Is it any good?

Hello, I know this is a very specific question depending on region aswell, but I am selling this PC and basically don't want to rip off myself (by charging to little) but also don't want to rip off the other guy by asking to much. I am selling my old pc to a friend and upgrading it aswell. So the thing is I have an "old" intel i 3, 2100, dual core in there. And I am going to put my old (from another build gtx 660ti in there). Now the system has 8 gigabytes of ram and a 400 watt psu from some weird brand (It has the cheap grey look to it). So i basically had three questions: 1) will the cpu bottleneck the system (cpu is the intel i3-2100 3.1Ghz, dual core model) GPU = nvidia gtx 660ti (msi). 2)Do i have to upgrade the psu (I have a brand new thermaltake 500W PSU lying here, but it will cost me a bit more because it is new. 3) And how much will I sell it for I was thinking about 250 euros if i replace the psu (without hdd). That is like 300USD or 367 Canadian dollars. I have seen that systems with the same specs without a gpu go for around 100-150 euros. This pc will be replaceing his potato intel core i3 or i5 laptop he games on now. He gets like 20 fps in heroes and generals, everything turned low or off and can't even run Nuke on cs:go. The best deal I've settled on so far is a Lenovo Y700 which occasionally hits that price point. Any other options would be greatly appreciated.

Edits === I ended up buying a gigabytes P34w v5 for £690 on eBay, it has a I7 6700hq, 970m, 16gb ram, 256gb nvme ssd and 1 tb hdd so I'm happy with the specs. my brothers had a laptop with the 7 series gpus (for age reference) and it is fine hence I wasn't too worried about dust being a problem and the Dell is good but out of my price range when new if I look at the I7 comparatively to the one I bought. I guess I'll see when it comes in 2 days! Original === I'm looking to buy a roughly £700 laptop (at a real push £800) to last me throughout a levels and uni. I've been looking for second hand ones on eBay currently. I use my current computer (which has 12 year old components so no point upgrading it as I may as well buy a new one) for programming, trying to play games from arma 2, dayz, civ 5 and spelunky. I don't play major games currently as they are expensive for 1 game and my quadro fx 5600 is just beyond terrible however I would like to play them in the future. Games like rust are simply unplayable, black mountains, shards, 20 frames a minute. I can't bear an integrated graphics card for fear of suffering the same problems. I've also started learning to produce music so this is a consideration for specs as well. Below is a list of ideal specs so recommendations for good laptops of the recent past and maybe amendments to my sights that may be more reasonable to my budget is generally what I'm looking for. 'Ideal' specs Cpu - I7/I5 (recomendations on which I would need) Gpu - 960m/965m/970m. I've found 970m to be strangely similar in some pricing to 960m... Is it worth waiting for the 1050ti for laptops or even splashing out on a 1060 which I can't really afford right now. Ram - 8-16gb (preferably upgradable if 8gb) Screen - 14"/15" IPS but I wouldn't turn down a 17" Battery - not a huge concern but If I want to use it at uni it may be more of a concern so 4 hours maybe Weight - 2-3kg preferably not only because of the obvious benefits but slimmer profiles are preferable really just for aesthetics (not super likely at £700) The Razer blade ticks all of these boxes but its really expensive, even second hand as well as very limited amounts I'm the UK. Storage - SSD as large as possible but I don't mind a small one now and upgrading later. SSHD seems smart for budgeting. *Cheeky note* If there's any Razer blade competitions like the one I didn't win this Christmas by LTT, please suggest them as the new Razer blade is perfect for me (as well as the 970m one). -
I would ask this on a website from my country. but there aren't any, so i am just gonna hope some of you guys know what i'm talking about. So I am looking to build a new pc and i stumbled upon some great deals on a sh site(only does business within my country) that had brand new SEALED components, with no warranty unfortunate, for damn cheap. At least when talking about motherboards. Does anyone know if there is a catch? The guys who usually sell those kind of stuff have lots of offers, like 5-10 type of boards(both for am4 and 1151) and every cpu that launched recently(all ryzen chips + all 8th & 9th gen intel). Not even gonna start on gpus. The thing is they are all "sealed, brand new" but without warranty. I live in Europe, Romania if that matters. -
Good day guys Here again asking for something on a tight budget. I want a old laptop with a GPU for under $750.00. Doesn't need to be new at all and it sure as f$ck won't be at that price. IF at all possible just some name recommendations on what i can have. Going to buy locally here in South Africa but hope I can get something. will of course upgrade where possible if possible with ram and SSD. But a reasonable GPU would be awesome. Thanks Vincent

Anyone else ever try to buy parts from auctions? Picked up a 24 inch Acer V243HL for around $35 USD 2 years ago, came from a company selling their old IT equipment. It also came with a garbage keyboard and mice, which I threw into the trash. It's now with my parents and used pretty much all day, definitely a good purchase. More recently I picked up an Intel NVMe 256 GB M.2 SSD less than a year old for around $20 USD, with a few 256 GB 2.5inches Samsung SSDs that were around 2 years old for the $20 each. The Samsungs were probably fair prices second hand compared to the bargain that was the Intel. Given the model numbers and another auction on the same site, I believe they came from Lenovo laptops which were put up in a separate auction. Given the volume I assume it came from a Lenovo distributor, but I don't have clear info on that. Currently waiting on delivery for those. Update: all the drives work fine. Great addition to my new build

Hey everyone! So me and a few friends are trying to build a cheap gaming PC each for £180 as a bit of a competition to see who can make the best performing gaming PC. I have a GTX 960 2GB (for a crazy cheap price) and a 550W PSU and a random SSHD (lol). I have around £120 left for my CPU (and cheap cooler), mobo, RAM and case. Of course I’m looking to buy second hand, but I’m wondering which CPU would be best to work decently with my 960 and be pretty cheap second hand. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks! Games we will be testing: Overwatch, Doom (2016), Battlefield 1. We will also run 3D mark Firestrike as our benchmark. -

Hello guys! I found a pretty good deal but i don't know if it worth buying. An RX580 4GB (Sapphire Nitro+) for 130 dollars. The only problem is that the guy selling it used it for mining for 6 months. He has the receipt and the warranty is valid until February 2020. In my country this GPU costs arround 290 dollars (new). Should I get it?
