Recently for 2 days, when I use my PC for a long time, my hard disk somehow stops working and doesn't get detected anymore (neither in Windows nor bios). It solves automatically when I don't use my computer for about 6-7hrs. I'm confused about what might be the problem, as I switched to a different port, and checked the cables but nothing seemed to solve the issue. I've also checked for bad sectors but didn't find any. My HDD is a Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm; the exact model would be ST1000DM010-2EP102.

For first time owners with Seagate harddrives it's sadly common to suffer a heart attack when first time checking the health of the drive and seeing all those high numbers. Everybody gangsta until they read those Read Error Rate numbers on their Seagates.... It also doesn't help the cause that some Seagate drives can be more noisy than harddrives from other manufacturers. But Seagate has their own way of reporting those numbers which is hard to make any sense of. I want to share a link that I found. It converts those numbers from Hex or Decimal to something more understandable. https://www.disktuna.com/seagate-raw-smart-attributes-to-error-convertertest/ On that site you can convert your raw value of 01 Read error rate and 07 Seek error rate.

It is a Seagate BUP Slim 2 TB Drive that I would like to run a bridge bot and a Minecraft Server on along with system backups on it. It is still under warranty should I get it replaced? Basically asking that will they replace it or will they say that the drive is still fine and this is normal for a drive and charge me for getting the drive shipped back?

I bought two recertified seagate 16TB drives from serverpartdeals and I this is what i'm seeing after a few days of use. So does this mean it's dead? I'm well within the warranty window on both drives but since I've got one doing this, I'm thinking I wanna test the other drive too. Is there a good program for testing drives?

From the album: My Build, the beginnings
This is an overall view of the internals before I installed the new RAM. The PSU is the NZXT Hale82 750w PSU. I will be upgrading to the 1200w NZXT Hale92 white PSU. Because it is awesome. The drives are a 120GB SanDisk SSD, 120GB Kingston HyperX SSD, and a 1TB Hitachi HDD. Fans are default NZXT fans. Motherboard is the ASRock Extreme4 Z77 Motherboard. CPU is the Intel i5 3570k.© TPaliciusV

This is my storage setup. Very ghetto. Eventually, I will be seating it (all drives) with 3M double sided sticky tape somewhere. Preferably to the floor of the case. Still not sure. Maybe on the Motherboard Tray.© TPaliciusV

Hello all I'm already a happy owner for the - a bit older - Western Digital Red PRO 6TB (WD6002FFWX), and I'm soon buying a HDD enclosure with Raid support. And what I want is to make a Raid 1 setup with my current Red PRO 6TB. And no, I'm not interested in other Raid configurations than Raid 1 for the moment. I have never used Raid before and as my first Raid setup, I just want it to be simple. But my Red PRO 6TB, the WD6002FFWX, can't be bought anymore so what Red PRO 6TB should I get now? Seems like WD made a couple of 6TB models and I'm not sure which one to go for. Does it even matter which one? If not, maybe I can go for a Seagate instead? I hope some Raid guru here can tell me what is important and what is not.

I'm planning to get a new hard drive to replace my 160GB WD Blue. Should I get a Seagate Barracuda or WD Blue? Both are 1TB in size. Hello everybody, a friend of mine has an Asus gamer laptop (i7 + 1050Ti) which he bought a little over two years ago. The laptop's storage solution is a 256GB m.2 SATA SSD and a 1 TB 2.5" SSHD. Today he approached me with a problem that mid-game, his game crashed and his whole system locked up. Eventually he managed to close the game, only to realize that his entire Drive D was missing from Windows, and most of his apps weren't working. A reboot managed to fix the problem but his laptop is acting weird ever since, and now that he's paying more attention to the laptop, he can hear that the drive is making some weird noises when spinning. I assumed from the get-go that his SSHD might be failing. I had him download HD Sentinel to have a look at his drive condition and as the attached image shows, according to the app, that thing is barely clinging on to life. Obviously I immediately recommended him to start saving all his important files to pen-drive. Naturally, the laptop's warranty expired in November last year. What I don't understand is the number of starts / shutdowns of that SSHD. Apologies for the UI being in Hungarian but I believe you can get all the data regardless. The app shows that in 268 days of operation, that thing was powered on / off 65535 times which is insane and (if the data is correct) it could've caused such degradation. What could've caused this? Did a controller or something die? For comparison, my 5 years old WD HDD's start / stop count was 2828 in 889 days of operation and it still has 100% condition according to HD Sentinel. Did anybody see anything like this? Does this seem abnormal only to me? Do Seagate's SSHD's die this fast? Is maybe HD Sentinel's data wrong (never had issues with that app before though)? What I'm worried about is that if something's wrong with the laptop, then even if we get a new drive, it might kill it with time. Any ideas / experiences are much appreciated! Cheers, specialist

Hello, are these sounds normal for a new drive? This noise is happening when I write... Sounds at --> 00:02, 00:07 and 00:12 (phone was pretty close and handles the sound more loudly than it actually is - depending on your volume) As you can see it is a Seagate IronWolf PRO 10TB 3,5" drive. I didn't use 3,5" disk in years, so I am concern about any noise it makes. Thank you EDIT: Found these videos (are they relevant to my issue?): https://youtu.be/fsod-SeEKq0?t=601 https://youtu.be/Uq4BOGMzy2Y?t=33

I'm in the process of selling my old Alienware pre-built PC and I'm keeping my old Seagate 1 TB hard drive that came with the system and replacing it with a 500 GB western digital HD that I got for cheap. I want to move windows and all of the dell applications to the new hard drive and whip the remaining files off of my old Seagate so I have a fresh hard drive. How do I do that?

Hi, kinda newbie to the tech world here. I had two questions about hard-drive shucking... Does it work with any kind of external hard drive (for example, this is my hard drive: https://amzn.to/3og7Zv2), or does it have to be specifically larger external hard drives (for example: https://amzn.to/3I8DYFA)? Also, when watching tutorials on how to shuck hard drives, I learned that there is a pin on the hard drive itself you must cover up, as this pin controls the hard drive's power. However, in the tutorial, the hard drive had a button, while my hard drive (listed above) does not. Do I still have to cover up that pin? Thanks to anyone who helps.

Hi there, I have a 'malfunctioning' HDD which still has intact data on it. This I know, because it has shown up as a normal drive would in Windows Explorer and lists all of its files. This it would only do 1 in 100 times and it was only accessible for about a minute before 'going dark' again. This problem came out of nowhere. No hardware or software changes happened and I can find no reason to why it would start doing this now. The disk: Seagate ST2000DM001 - 2TB Internal HDD I've tried to get the disk working on 3 different systems now, but it behaves the same on all of them. Here are some common symptoms of the drive's malfunctioning: - Boot time increases by 3-5 minutes with the disk plugged in - Disk does not show in BIOS - Disk does not show in Explorer - Disk does not show in Task Manager - Disk does often not show in Disk Management - Disk always shows in Device Manager as Storage device with correct capacity, but without volume - Disk Management will wait forever for VDS with disk plugged in - Disk cannot be initiated in Disk Management - Disk cannot be partitioned by Diskpart - Error: 800701B1@02070008 The one success One of the times the disk actually showed up as it's supposed to do(with drive letter and all), I managed to copy some files off the disk using Xcopy in CMD as Explorer would instantly cause the drive to disappear again when starting a copy. But as the disk almost never shows up like this, I've started trying a couple software programs, hoping they'd be able to find something. External Programs Minitool Partition Wizard lists Disk as: Program was unable to recover anything. (No partitions or data) Seatools: Seagate's software for troubleshooting doesn't see the disk at all. Disk Drill: Doesn't find any partitions and lists all sectors as unreadable. Marks all scanned blocks as 'Bad Blocks'. Right now I'm not sure what else to do other than re-plugging the thing hoping it shows up as normal for a minute so I can pull a file or two off again... Does anyone have any more suggestions to what I can try to get some data off this disk? I appreciate every reply!

Hello, I recently built a Nas using regular consumer drives which I plan to use until they burn out before upgrading to proper Nas drives, but I have 2 questions. 1. Can I continue to use regular consumer drives for my Nas after the ones I already have in it die as they are far cheaper and do Nas drives really provide much benefits over regular drives. And 2. I want to make a complete backup of my Nas and store these hard drives off site so I want to purchase 2 18tb drives but the Seagate exos enterprise drives are by far the cheapest on amazon for 18tb by atleast 200 dollars so I was just wondering is there any real difference or reason why I shouldn't use these for long term storage? Or if they happen to be much louder than other consumer drives, my main worry is that they aren't built to hold data whole being powered off for long periods of time as once I fill them up I plan to just leave them off and stored in a safe place until I need them incase the drives in my Nas ever die. I'm only worried because I know on the website for them they talk about then being built for certain environmental conditions which obviously means 24/7 operation and being constantly plugged in which kind of has me worried. If anyone on the forum is an expert on these kinds of things I'd really appreciate the help

Is seagate firecuda 530 1tb nvme ssd compatible with lenevo legion 5 15ACH6??

Both Skyhawk and Ironwolf has same 4TB capacity, 5900rpm, and 64MB cache. The Exos has higher rpm and cache. But I get mixed reviews on the ST4000NM0035. Some of those are labeled as Terrascale HD V2 not Exos. Skyhawk is currently listed $104.99 and Ironwolf at $99.99. Exos with ST4000NM0035 is listed at $99.99 leading me to believe it will have a Terrascale label instead of Exos and will be out of warranty. I want to buy and use it for saving video files as well as for archival purposes. I guess I am looking for an HDD that is faster on reading and writing from doing video editing. Skyhwak? Ironwolf? Exos? Terrascale? Or Barracuda Compute? EDIT: I typed this post while on mobile.. can't edit the title for misspelling.

Well of course I will use it, but before I start dumping in my precious, what should I do? What I mean by that is: Should I use some tool to check sectors? Or it is good enough to just format it (uncheck quick formatting)? Maybe check the SMART using CrystalDisk Info? Or maybe use Seatools to do a long generic? (Its a Seagate Iron Wolfe)

So I bought a Seagate Ironwolf 8TB NAS drive and am trying to install it in my PC. For some reason, the drive does not spin up when the PC is turned on and the UEFI/BIOS shows the SATA port on the motherboard is not being used or connected to anything (My 2 SSDs show up fine). I confirmed the SATA Data and SATA Power cables work just fine (with my SSD drives). I also tried a MOLEX to SATA adapter to power the HDD. Nothing. I tried to install it on my brother's PC using the same cables and ports he uses for his working WD 6TB Drive. Nothing. I have had this happen with 2 other drives and I asked for replacements each time thinking 1 drive must be faulty, the second one was a one-off fluke but now the third isn't working either and it has to be something with my PC by this point I think. Like 99.99% sure that 3 drives I get in a row are not faulty. Oh the only time it spun up and I confirmed it was a working drive was when I chucked it into an external enclosure and turned it on. With the enclosure it worked but it could only read 4TB because the USB driver of the enclosure is very old and I need it as an internal drive anyway. Can somebody help me figure this out, please?
