How Much Space Does a 2k Image/5 Min Video Take Up On Your SD Card? IDK I just bought a 2k camera, for some reason I thought it would come with a SD card. So I thought (Obviously) to buy one but I need to choose from a 256 GB, 128 GB, a 64 GB, and a 32 GB SD card. Which should I choose if I plan to take 300 2k 6 mp photos?

Recently I've found myself in a bit of a conundrum. I have several raspberry Pi's and Odroids that have or will be running home assistant. The consensus in the community is to use a dongle and a SSD through I do not like the fragility of this bulk nor do I trust the "small capacity" >128gb ssds out there. However there are brands like SanDisk and Samsung making high endurance SD cards rated for 120,000 hours of operation. I am currently using a Samsung pro endurance 128gb SD card and it has outlived any other SD card I have ever bought. It is still chucking along in good health. My issue is the lack of reviews and test done on these cards as IOPs are a huge deal with home assistant. Home assistants database writes out every device/entity event. Almost all SD cards bite the dust because of this operation. What is the communities experience with these high/pro/max endurance SD cards from Samsung and SanDisk. What would be optimal to deploy home assistant? Would love to see a tech tips video on SD cards and the specific applications. Should I be using a A2 SD card? A high endurance SD card? A SD card that has the most IOPs?

It all started when I wanted to install GoTG on my Steam Deck. Because it is a 70GB game, I know it would take a little bit of time to install. So, I started playing another game while I waited. I noticed performance was really, really bad on the game I was playing. It was at this point that I realized that the game was installed on the micro-SD card which was currently getting written to. So, I quit the game and let Guardians of the Galaxy install. I then got an error that the game failed to install, which I have never seen before. I first tried restarting the download process which failed. I then tried deleting what was written already to the card. When that failed, I tried to repair the game as a download in process. When THAT didn't work, I restarted my Steam Deck, which is when things went from bad to really, really, REALLY, bad. The SD card did not show up anymore as an option as storage for games, even though it was inserted into the Steam Deck. The games that were installed on the SD card now prompted me to download them to the Steam Deck's internal storage. I then went into desktop mode to see if I can mount the SD card and save my data on it. The SD card showed up as something that could be mounted, but when I tried to mount it, it said it couldn't be mounted. Really panicking now, I plugged the SD card into my Windows 11 PC using a micro-SD to USB adapter, which showed the SD card, which showed up in this pc, but now doesn't show up at all. It does show up on Disk management, but it doesn't say what kind of file system is on the SD card and it says it is Read Only (Screenshot attached). I figure part of the reason for this issue is that the file system is ext4 (presumably). I spun up a live CD of Ubuntu to see if it will mount that way and it does not work. I am near my wits end. I don't know what to do to save my SD card. I have a full 100% playthrough on my SD card that I really want to save, otherwise I would have wiped the card at this point. How do I save it? Would it even work if I wiped the card and inserted it back into my Steam Deck. Please help me!

I'm considering buying a Steam Deck when reservations go live but I'm hesitant because I'm not really interested in shelling out an extra $129 for the NVME SSD version. Its noted on the Steam Deck page that the Steam Deck will have a highspeed Micro SD card reader. Is it practical to buy the $400 model and get a high capacity Micro SD card to play games on? And if so, how does one look for Micro SD cards that are capable of running potentially AAA games with reasonable load times? I want to help finding a good SD card for maybe $60-$70 or get some advice on how I can narrow my search for a good SD card considering SD card speeds are not an area I am very well informed and I don't know what is considered fast enough for this purpose. Thanks in advance!

Hey! I was just wondering what would be better experience wise when expanding the Steam Deck's storage. The SD Card (UHS-I) slot meant for this can transfer up to "104 MB/s". But the USB-C connector on it should be able to go up to "2000MB/s" How viable is using, say the Framework 1TB expansion card (or another small 1TB USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 drive). Instead of a 1TB SD Card. 'Cause where I live, SD cards get pretty expensive here, so I'm just looking for alternatives.

Today I went to the store and bought the cheapest 128GB micro SD card I could find as storage for my Raspberry Pi. I then ran write and read tests using f3 which revealed 9 Megabytes of bad sectors, a log file containing f3write and f3read logs is attached to this post. The card in question is a 128 Gigabytes large Müller (own brand) Class 10 microSDXC card that cost me 23€ and came with a 5-year warranty even though I could not find any information on the card online. So should I try to return the card and buy another one from a trusted manufacturer or should I just try to use the card and hope for the best? And do new cards usually have a small amount of bad sectors or did I just have some bad luck with this one? f3 log.txt

My Raspberry Pi runs 18hrs everyday, sometimes I leave it running all night if I want to download something. These are the things that runs pi: At boot till shutdown VNC Server Qbitorrent-Nox (web-ui) PiHole Samba SMB server for 2TB external HDD - always connected (only use it for watching movies and stuff) Manually run for few mins Chromium (just to use Google Colab) Rclone Is it better to use pendrive as boot drive? Temps stays around 60-70oc. And 70-80 on rclone uncapped download, although I usually cap it to stay cool. Also can someone explain this in short: Extend The Lifespan of Your Raspberry Pi's SD Card with log2ram Thanks

So, I just recently got a 2018 Nissan Altima. For navigation and stuff it uses an SD card. 2019 models and up use a different system. Well, Nissan wants you to buy their SD card for $130 plus the small shipping cost. Well, I kinda just want to find the data somewhere and put it on an SD card I already have. Anyone have any ideas on where to find it on the internet? Some tool someone made or to download it from somewhere? There's copying one but I'd need to have a Nissan SD card first do to that. Any ideas or suggestion would be nice. Or if you find it cuz I've been looking.

Hello, Im looking at the new Lenovo Ryzen 4800u laptop and am wondering if I should expand the storage through its 5400rpm hard drive bay 100using a Toshiba hard drive or use it's micro SD card reader with a 100mbps SanDisk Ultra? No idea how fast the card reader is or the realistic performance of the SD card when actually used but 100mbps seems good. https://www.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/ideapad/s-series/IdeaPad-5-15ARE05/p/81YQCTO1WWENGB1/customize? This is the product but the SSD is 512gb and it has no secondary storage. Thanks.

Hello, I have got a Samsung SD card in my phone. It has been working well for about 4 years now and yesterday when I was playing some music that was stored in it from the phone, I got a notification that the SD card is corrupted and click the notification to fix it. It wanted me to format the card to fix it. Didnt want to do that as I had some important data init. When this happened I noticed the song I was playing kept playing uninterrupted by this. I clicked on some of the other songs in the card. Some would play but most wouldnt, the player would pop a message saying cant locate the file. I plugged it on to my pc, it showed the message to do a scan to fix the issues. i hit ok to it but the very moment it started to read the card it would disconnect and after a couple of seconds it would reconnect. This made the scan fix to fail. When it reconnected I am able to open it and browse as well. I was able to copy some file from it to my pc even tough it repeatedly kept disconnecting. Im unable to scan it or format it with any of the windows tools or even my android phone. Is this some hardware related issue with the card. I dont see any physical damages in it either. Is there anything I can do to get it to work before I toss it in the bin. Any suggestions would be helpful. thanks

Alrighty Then. With the advent of the Nintendo SwitchTM, SD cards with high, constant Write speeds are crucial, if you plan on going mostly digital with your new console. Problem is, there seems to be very little choice, and not much new in this arena. I've only found three that were suitable in my eyes, but two out of the three I have were released in 2014, the last being released in late 2016. I was wondering if speeds could have been improved since then, and if not speed, at least price or size. Just to keep things simple, UHS-II U3 class SDXC cards will probably be the only ones mentioned. Here's the three I've Found: Lexar 64GB Sandisk 64GB Delkin 64GB I was searching for 64GB in particular, but these three have 128GB variants as well. This might just be a me problem, as all three of these boast write speeds of over 200mb/s. I guess what I wanted to see, is if there are any SD cards that I'm not aware of that are faster, cheaper with the same speed, or something else. What also worries me is these speeds they tell you are often not constant read/writes, but bursts. Am I being too picky on the three choices I've found, or is there more out there I'm unaware of? Edit: For blind peeps, text size was upped.

Hopefully someone can help me out. I'm trying to make an extension of the SD card reader so I may put it inside of another device and move the port to another location. Before anything, I tested the card port and it reads my SD card just fine. I removed the SD port from the board and soldered extension wires to each point on the SD port and extended that back to their individual points on the board. When I plug in the USB stick, the LED activates and blinks in sequences as if it is waiting in standby for an SD card to be inserted. I place the SD card in its port and nothing happens (with or without force). I plugged a microSD card into the other port that was still attached to the board and the computer can detect it just fine. My guess is that when I added wires to the port, I added latency to the signal due to the wire length and therefor can't reach the card. Perhaps using a 3.0 card reader with higher voltage could fix this? Here is the card reader I brought: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-usb-2-0-sd-mmc-memory-card-reader-black/3602009.p?skuId=3602009 I check all my soldering points and made sure they are all properly in place. What am I missing?..

So an odd question I had: "How do SD card readers work to know if an SD card has the write-protection switch on or off?" I'm currently modding a case to house a reader and I'm wanting to rig it to my own switch, but I want to know how the SD card reader currents work and how it activate/deactivates the reader. (Please feel free to use the pictures below to demonstrate or correct me in anyway. )

I got the orange pi zero version of lubuntu, burned it onto my sd card, and did a sudo apt-get upgrade, installed a few programs, and it says my drive is full, which doesn't make any sense. I used the df command to check my storage and i get 8 different "drives" (filesystems), most of which are marked "none" and two of which say devtmpfs and /dev/root. the /dev/root has the most storage at 3466184 1k blocks, which translates to about 3.5 GB if my math is correct. The other filessystems added up equal about 4 GB. Where did my 16GB Go? Is the card not mounted, or is some storage not being allocated? How can I fix this?

Hello, I've just finished my rasberry pi project, and was going to use the (micro) SD card in my tablet to store pictures. On the SD card it says it's 8gb and I know it must have been atleast 4gb because it had rasbian on it with room to spare. But when I look in file explorer and android it says its only 120mb. The SD card is from kingston so I don't think that its one of those fake ebay ones. Does anyone know what is up here? I would like to get some space back so I can store things on it but its not that important so I'd rather not spend any money. TDLR: I have an SD card which says its 8gb, I know it must have been atleast 4gb, but when I look at it now it says its only 120mb. Anyone know why?

Hello, I am going to purchase the NZXT H440 case for a new build. However, I need a sd card reader. The H440 lacks 5.25 inch bays, but it does have two 2.5 inch bays that are accessible when the side panel is removed. Is there a 2.5 inch sd card reader? Or a way to mount a 3.5inch card reader into the 2.5 inch bays? Thanks.

Yesterday when i rebooted my phone a message popped up saying that the sd card has been corrupted, I've tried a few apps on my pc to bring back the data but all of them require a license. Is there a good free alternative that can get my files back.

hi, I was wondering if it's better to just delete all the pictures or take the pictures off a memory card or re-format it if I want to have all the space on it. Which is the proper way or better. Thanks

I'm on a quest to find the cheapest, and most impractical laptop for my back-to-college venture this next semester. So far, I came out quite lucky with a Dell Inspiron 6000 for $4, with a charger for another $8. The device didn't come with a hard drive (I'm guessing for security reasons on the seller's part), but as I'm sure many of you know, the laptop uses an IDE PATA interface. COULD go with a normal 40-60GB hard drive and call it a day; I'm only using the device for school work and maybe some YouTube streaming, but nothing beyond those use cases. I have a surplus of microSD cards lying about, and thought... Why not give those a shot, since the Inspiron I got came with a card reader? So far, I've hit a dead end. With a USB flash drive as the boot device into the Windows setup menu for Win10, I tried locating the SD card from the list the menu prompts you to chose from. The card wasn't there. I used Diskpart to quickly clean the drive, tried converting the card to GPT, creating a partition where the Media Creation Tool would boot, then using the remaining space as the disk where all the files would be offloaded and installed onto: I exhausted all of my methods. Does anyone know how I could use my microSD card as the Local Disk for Windows 10? I know, I know. SD cards are 8x's or sometimes 10x's slower than a mechanical hard drive, but if there's any way I could keep the costs as low as possible, that's what I'm mainly after. IDE HDDs that WOULD work come from China, and it'll take about 2 months to be shipped to my APO box. Any help would be great!

Hello everyone, I'm thinking of buying this Tablet for myself. I plan on using it mainly for reading manga, web browsing and social media stalking. I needed the screen to be big and has a lot of space or has and SD card expansion. However as i read through the specs under storage it says "can be upgraded with up to 32GB of micro-SD card for file storage", why cant it only be upgraded up to 32gb? is there anything on this tablet that's stopping me from upgrading it with a 64gb or even a 128gb of micro-SD card?

Source: https://9to5mac.com/2016/11/02/phill-schiller-addresses-new-macbook-pro-controversy-explains-why-apple-dropped-the-sd-card-but-kept-the-headphone-jack/ In an interview with The Independent, Apple marketing exec Phil Schiller discusses the development and public response to the new MacBook Pros. Well I'll get right to the meat The new Pros have no SD card slot for a camera memory card. Why not? Why does the new MacCook Pro's have a 3.5mm jack while the iPhone 7 doesn't? Schiller also confronts critics who saw the new MacBook Pros and were disappointed, suggesting Apple doesn’t care about the Mac business anymore, or at least the Mac desktop business. Schiller strongly disagrees and says “We love the Mac and are as committed to it, in both desktops and notebooks, as we ever have been.”. That being said, Schiller admits he was a bit surprised by the negative reactions, even though all Apple product fuels early criticism and debate. On the Touch Bar innovations, Schiller says the notebook form factor is not going anyway anytime soon but the Touch Bar enables a more interactive experience that is “coplanar with the keyboard and trackpad”. Schiller also says that iOS and macOS are fundamentally different products and necessitate unique software. Schiller quotes one particular example, the Mac menubar. He says if you made the mac a touchscreen, you’d have to work out a way to use the menubar with touch and says it is simply not as good or as intuitive as with a mouse and trackpad. My Thoughts: I guess this solves some controversy as to why they did what they did. Personally, I couldn't care less about the SD card slot as I already have a USB Card Reader which supports far more slot format than the SD slot PS: The forum seems very buggy to me. The Quotation box is for some reason unnecessarily big and I had trouble editing this all this (it just keeps freezing and I have to refresh the page)
