Hey guys, I am building a cheap old server for a project, and I can't seem to get the right CPU coolers. The motherboard is a Dual Xeon e5-26xxx compatible Asus Z9PA-D8: https://www.nix.ru/autocatalog/motherboards_asustek/161373_2245_draft.jpg. This board has standard LGA-2011 sockets. I've tried several LGA-2011 coolers, for example: https://gelidsolutions.com/product/rev-5-tranq, but it seems that all of them require you to install their own backplate. The CPU backplates on this motherboard are not removable. I feel retarded. The main issue is that the screws that come with the coolers are too thin and/or too long, even though the retention mechanism does line up with the holes correctly. My memory is playing tricks on me. Is this because it's a server board? For example, the screws on this cooler look correct by the shape and relative size: https://www.ebay.com/itm/284658618446, and it specifically says it doesn't come with a backplate because your motherboard should already come with one. Other server coolers look correct too: https://www.ebay.com/itm/314677372718. So what's the deal here? Are there two variants of coolers and motherboards for the LGA-2011 socket? Ones that require their own backplate, and ones that don't? I mean if that's the case, that just seems ridiculous. I don't feel like paying $80 bucks for a Nactua, but regardless, how would I know if an LGA-2011 cooler is actually compatible? Is there a specific cooler I need to look for? I don't mean a brand, I mean like a standard which is more than LGA-2011?

Long story short is, I got a pre owned 3080 for a good price. Only problem is a stripped screw causing uneven mounting pressure, which in turn makes for high temps, and about a 30c difference between core and hotspot temp. Have posted this on Reddit, and Tom's Hardware so far, and no one knew. I've also reached out to ASUS, and EK because their Quantum Vector block looks to use at least two of these screws. Waiting for a response from both. I thought I had the right screw and ordered M2.5x5mm screws, but they weren't right. Thread was too thick and short. Greatly appreciate any help Thanks

My dumbass lost one of the screws needed to attach the glass panel to the case, and i can't find a similar one online, they either all have a smooth head or are similar but not quite, anyone know where i can find one of these?

You would think that the small M3*5 screw would be for screwing in the motherboard and the larger hexagon screws for power supply. But alas... the small screw does not fit into the standoffs and the larger one does. What the hell Cooler Master, I expected better from a company that apparently makes some of the most renowned cases, power supplies, and coolers on the market. I know the N400 is terrible for cable management, but this is a relatively cheap NAS build for someone else.

Hey, just wanted to share this troubleshooting/fail story of me trying to clean up my CPU. So I noticed my Ryzen 3700X was getting pretty bad temps all around (60c idle - 92c underload) and decided to clean it up. I got a punch of cleaning supplies for removing thermal paste and dust. When I tried to get my stock cooler off it wouldn't budge after I got the latch off. So I ended up using a bit of force and finally got it out. Only problem was that the CPU chip came with the cooler stuck fast on the bottom. The thermal paste was quite solid on the chip and I had to pry it out with a small screwdriver. This would have been fine and all if I didn't end up damaging the pins of the CPU making it unusable. I had to go get a new chip since something like this isn't under the warranty. I ended up getting a 3800X since I need the PC for work all the time and the 5000 series is out of stock in many places. So after getting my new chip I put it in and used the old Prism cooler from the 3700X since I had already cleaned that one up. Booting up the pc all the fans and light seemed to be fine but the computer would not boot. So I checked the motherboard lights and saw the DRAM light red. Now I got worried since I really didn't to swap my motherboard or get new ram sticks at this point. I swapped the sticks around and found out that both the single channel slots worked absolutely fine, but when I tried dual channel in any order the computer would not get to windows (or bios for that matter). I almost gave up at this point since I figured the motherboard would have broken for some unknown reason. Then I found this post about a guy saying that loosening the screws of their CPU cooler fixed their dual channel problems. I didn't this would work since this guy had a Intel chip but it was worth a try at this point. I really didn't want to get my cooler of again since I was already 6 hours in trying to solve this, but I did it anyway and cleaned the CPU up and used the new Prism cooler that came with the 3800X (don't know if this had anything to do with the problem). I loosened the screws a bit (they were really tight tbh) and on the next boot the Dual channel worked, Hurray! Only downside now was that my thermals didn't improve much and I ended up wasting a good amount of money. Oh well... Just wanted to share this short story maybe it will help someone, Cheers! TLDR; Be careful when removing your cooler so you don't brake your CPU and don't tighten the cooler screws too much so you don't brake your DRAM channels. Hey guys, I've finished my build, using an AIO with the radiator mounted on the front intake. I have two spare case fans and wanted to attach them to the top for an exhaust, but I don't have any nuts to hold them in place, they're NZXT stock fans that come with the kraken x53 (I swapped them out with the corsair stock case fans which are attached to my rad atm). I was just wondering what size nuts I need to attach them to the top? Thanks guys

Hello, I’m in a bit of a pickle as to what screws I need to get for my new components. I originally bought this case as part of a custom build and it only came with 6 screws (already installed) as the motherboard was micro ATX. I now have a Z490 MSI Tomahawk and there are 9 mounting holes on the motherboard. From what I gather, I need motherboard standoff screws to prevent the motherboard from touching the case and then screws (I don’t know what type) to screw the motherboard into the standoffs. The motherboard standoff has a length of 10mm, with a thread length of approx 4mm. Does anyone know the correct name/type please? I'm planning to get this from Amazon UK, is anyone able to check whether it contains the necessary screws I need please? I don't mind removing my current standoffs and replacing them with all new ones, if they fit in my mid Tower ATX case https://www.amazon.co.uk/132pcs-Personal-Computer-Standoffs-Motherboard/dp/B07BVVPZMD/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=motherboard+standoffs&qid=1619720310&s=electronics&sr=1-3 Thank you for all your help and assistance!

The MSI phones don't start for another hour. So gonna give here a shot while I wait. I just my new m.2 nvme ssd in the mail, and I just noticed the little screw for the m.2 stand off isn't there. I could take a regular M3*5 screw and screw it directly into the mobo. But I would rather not risk damaging a $300 2TB drive. Any suggestions for how to fix my problem?

Does anyone have idea what is the diameter of the screws the connects the heat-sink to motherboard? I sent my computer to a repair half a year ago and they have changed my thermal paste even though they didn't have to (cause I've changed it few months earlier then them). now the problem is not that they changed the thermal paste (because I can do it myself) .the problem is now that I wanted to re-paste the computer again I noticed that 3 out of 6 of the screws are kind of eaten and destroyed. I was wondering how could I measure the diameter or at-least if someone knows cause I couldn't find it on the internet and I didn't secure those 3 screws like they should be secured because they are damaged and this affects the thermal performance. The image is not of my computer but one that I took from google so you can see which screws I talking about.

I just bought a new gen 4 m.2 drive and took apart my pc to install it, just for two screws on the heatsink to not budge at all. I have an MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wifi. I got the farthest screw off with no issues. I think the GPU, my fat 3080 that mounts right on top of it, somehow stripped them. The head is also now slightly stripped because of our efforts to get the screws out. From looking at the manual, the screws are very short and when I try to lift the heatsink up it feels barely attached but the screws wont budge. Any help appreciated, thanks

Hi, I have an old HP Notebook 15-bs212wm. It's hard drive died a while back and needs a replacement as well as replacements for all the missing screws for the outer shell. I attached a picture of the drive port because I'm not really familiar with what it is. I thought it might be msata but it's got far too few pins for me to think that's the case. In addition, I'd like to go solid state if possible so if anyone knows if they're compatible with this port, let me know. As for the screws, does anyone know of a way to figure out what sizes are right so I don't put one through the PCB? I gave a brief glace at HP's support page for the notebook but haven't dug deep to see if there are screw listings. Any help would be lovely. Thanks.

Hey Guys, I got a used B550 TOMAHAWK on ebay for 10 Bucks. It was a nice deal, but the screws and standoffs for the m.2 ssd are not included. The ssd Backplate/Shield is also not included, but I want to use an other ssd cooler anyway. The Board is working great, but I want to upgrade to an m.2. The guy I bought the MB from didn‘t answer. I couldn‘t find the screw size in the manual. And on ebay, Amazon and the other sites there are plenty offers in all sizes and colors. I need help. In my city we don‘t have an pc repair store or something in that kind. Please help me. Wich screw size do I need? Thank you for your help. Greetings from Germany And sorry for my english. It‘s a while since I had to write or speak it.

Hey, I accidentally stripped my screws for the h100i v2 cooler a long time ago (the once in red obviously), is there anyway to find a replacement or is it just lost cause due to it being an old cooler?

Hi, I just bought new Silentium PC Corona HP RGB 120mm fans and I try to mount them to the front of my Cooler Master Masterbox E500L case. The problem is, that the screws are too thick for the holes and when I tried to use more force the brackets started to bend. I tried to look for the dimensions of the holes, so I could buy thinner ones, but without success. Any ideas? (Photo shows how much I was able to force it in)

1) If I buy Hard drives, Motherboard, PSU, Optical Drives, GPU for my new PC will there be screws included in each of them to hold or mount it in the case or I will have to buy them separately. I have never built PC myself, it's my first time. 2) Which type of magnetic screwdrivers I need. Can anyone suggest one.

After I took off my cpu liquid cooler, it's not possible for me to screw it back in for some reason. It seems like the screws won't stick to my mobo. Are the holes damaged? Or do you know any clever tricks that can help me out?
