Good day All! I know, I know, in this market, waiting until the week before school starts to find a laptop is going to mean value is going out the window... Nevertheless, my fiance needs a laptop for nursing school, orientation starts next week and classes start the following week. My price range is ~$1,500 (factor expedited delivery in with that, where applicable) but the budget is somewhat flexible - I strongly believe in getting what you pay for, so I will pay a little more for good value. She has a gaming rig, so it will only be for school and web browsing (but she does most of that on her phone). The minimum specs they provided are pretty meh: Laptop that is less than 3 years old Microsoft Office 2016 or newer Operating System: 32-bit and 64-bit Versions of Windows 10. Alternate versions of Windows 10, such as Windows RT and Windows 10 S, are NOT supported at this time. Only genuine, U.S.-English versions of Windows Operating Systems are supported. ExamSoft does not support Tablet devices other than Surface Pro as detailed below CPU Processor: 2.0 ghz Intel i3 processor or equivalent RAM: 4GB or higher Hard Drive: highest recommended for the operating system or 1GB of available space. For onsite support, and in order to backup the answer files to USB, a working USB port is required (Newer devices may require an adaptor) For technical troubleshooting, account passwords, including BitLocker keys, may be required. Internet connection for Download, Registration, Exam Download and Upload. Examplify cannot be run within virtualized environments or environments that require persistent network (local or otherwise) connections during secure exams. This includes, but is not limited to, VMWare, Parallels, Citrix workspace, Virtual Disks, Streamed images, etc. Screen Resolution should be at least 1024x768 or higher. No Chromebook No Netbook or Tablet No i-Pad That being said, with my experience, I find i3s to be pokey at the best of times, especially QOL with daily driver tasks So, in addition to the minimum specs above, I'm looking for recommendations (or links to reviews etc.) that have: Core i5 or better 8G RAM (I figure that is the bare minimum these days, 4G is asking for trouble, anything above 16G would be overkill) A 1080 display or better ~7 hours battery life would be ideal, her school day will be in that range (8:00 - 3:00) The only request she had was a 10-key number pad (hence why I ended up here, most retailers and other search methods don't offer that as a filter) At least 1 type-A port, while not a requirement (I have adapters) would be good to have A backlit keyboard is preferable Other than that, it doesn't need to have bleeding edge performance, but something decent and portable - and ideally not too "gamer-y" I am aware this is sorta a "plz bro" post, but I'm trying to explore all my options here, I have also been scouring vendor sites, floatplane reviews, etc. She's going to take a look at what I've found when she gets home from work today, here are the current contenders (in no particular order): https://www.newegg.com/lenovo-thinkbook-15-g2-itl-20ve006uus/p/1B4-001H-02H01?Item=1B4-001H-02H01 https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-laptops/inspiron-15-2-in-1-laptop/spd/inspiron-15-7506-2-in-1-laptop/n27506ejtth?view=configurations https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/laptops/15-5520/spd/latitude-15-5520-laptop/s001l552015us https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/compare?ocs=smv155w11p1c7500c,s014l352015us,s027l352015us,s001l552015us I figured LTT peeps would be the best to run it by, we're a special breed! (of helpful and knowledgeable that is) Cheers! (and my sincerest appreciation for any input!)

I'm going to need a laptop for school and would like one with these type of requirements: Matte screen - (glossy screens are too difficult to stare at during bright lights) Capability to run Matlab and/or design + modeling Not a gaming laptop - not designed for gaming Around 15 inch screen Easy to use keyboard and track pad Any ideas or suggestions would be incredibly helpful and I give my warmest thanks.

I need help finding a laptop that would be good for both computer science and gaming. I plan on ordering something in a few days as I will be going to uni soon. As of right now I live in Maryland USA but in a few weeks I will be going to Germany for school. My budget is about $2000 to $2400. I've already tried a Razer Blade 15 advanced (i7 8750h and 2070 max q) but returned that due to loud coil whine and have also tried a Asus gx502 (i7 9750h and 2070) but returned that as well due to a few physical defects. Due to this I am somewhat afraid of having issues with another laptop. I would prefer something that isn't too heavy (I'm willing to carry up to 6 pounds around) and I'm not to concerned whether it is 17" or 15" as long as I can carry it around if needed. I don't intend to use it in class but might use it for class work on campus. Battery life isn't too much of a concern as I am not expecting to use this sort of laptop in situations where I'm far from a outlet. 4 to 6 hours would be considered a bonus in my opinion. I would prefer something that is max p but I'm open to max q as well. I'm looking to buy from a place such as hidevolution as I've heard many gaming laptops aren't exactly cool and I'd like to do all I can to keep temps reasonable and fan noise not too loud (I'd say 58db is getting too loud for me but I can live with it if it means better thermals). I'd consider both thunderbolt 3 and Gsync as bonuses and not essential. I did find this on amazon, the Acer Triton 500 with 2080 max q, but I'm a bit weary of the inverted motherboard. I'd like to be able to easily access ram and M.2 slots so this wouldn't be ideal, but I can't find anything as small for the price. Thoughts? Is there any major downside to getting an i7 8750h over an i7 9750h? Thanks in advance!

Hi all! I am looking for a laptop that is under £1200 (not canadian rupees unfortunately!) and i am hoping to find a laptop with similar specs to the following: i7 7700hq 16gb ram gtx 1060 1tb hard drive possibly an m.2 drive if it can be squeezed in RGB KEYBOARD (i mean it is 2018 right? oh and individually backlit please!) 15.6inch or lower (needs to be kinda portable) batter life greater than 3 hours if possible? i am happy with going down the custom route for laptops... but i do need to have warranty on it (i will be taking it to school each day) thanks in advance! from the bear that goes through the tunnels for you....

Short version: School laptop Used bootable windows drive Set the internal drive to online(available) to access school files Bootable windows OS does a drive repair on drive E: a few days later (what the internal drive was recognized as by my bootable windows) In bootable windows I get "drive is not accessible permision denied" after trying to open it Shut down and attempted to boot the regular internal drive (school windows 8.1 OS) HP logo followed by permanent black screen no sign of windows at all Re launch on bootable drive Right click and change security properties to allow my account full access Check storage, hard all of the files as far as I can tell. Windows still won't boot from the interal drive. I can get the recovery menu up sometimes but I don't have an admin password for that system so I can't run any repair options and safe mode won't boot either. Other info: In bootable windows I did have to hard reset the laptop a couple of times. For reasons varying from accdental drive unplug by my friend, a usb 3 driver error causing it to stop 2 or 3 times before I updated it, a program that caused it to freeze once, and an error saying the boot drive was inaccessible randomly 2 times.(probably because of the un updated usb driver) What I think happened, just not sure how to fix it or if I'm right: During the drive repair somehow all users/systems lost some/full accees to the drive and now the system cannot boot windows from the drive because it has no access. Some sort of anti theft protocol that was activated when I accessed the drive from bootable windows Long version: My high school provided us with laptops(windows 8.1 school modified OS) obviously they restricted the shit out of our student domain log-ins. I decided to use an old 500GB HDD to make bootable windows 8.1 drive. Effectively giving me access to a full admin privileged account on the school laptop. I wanted to be able to have access to my school files when I was on the alternate windows environment while at home so I went into the disk manager and turned the internal drive online. I had been running it this way for a few days. One day I started up the bootable drive and got a "repairing drive E:" screen, I found out after letting it boot that drive E was the internal one. Double clicked it and it gave me an error message telling me access was denied. I shut down and rebooted the laptop using the internal drive instrad of the external one, windows wouldn't boot at all. After a few worried google searches I booted it back up using the external drive, right clicked the internal one and added myself to the permisson list again. To my knowledge all the files are still there, all of my files are at least, but windows won't boot. I can get the recovery menu up sometimes but I don't have an admin password for that system so I can't run any repair options and safe mode won't boot either. Before you suggest that I/why don't I just take it to the school for repair. They're dicks in the IT department and repairs take a long time so there's a chance I get in trouble and have no laptop for school, which is used heavily in some classes, if I bring it to them. So that's my last resort if i can't find another solution. Thank you in advance for any help

I'll try and keep this short. My budget is 1500AUD(1160 USD) but would prefer a far lower price if available. I would like this laptop to be able to run for atleast 6 hours, preferably 8 for school (though this will not be a heavy load at all). IO that I require are atleast 2-3 USB ports, an ethernet port and a HDMI port, though thunderbolt is always handy. This laptop will mainly be used for school work so no more than 1TB of space is necessary and even that may be overkill. I do also do alot of technical work for the school so video and programming capabilities will have to be good enough (but nothing too fancy). I won't be gaming on this laptop and will hopefully use it in Uni next year. Notes: I live in Aus, so hopefully it is available here. Preferably a weight of less than 2kg would be ideal I have been looking at the surface laptop i5 256GB but the lack of IO is whats turning me away from it Feel free to suggest anything, even if it does not meet my requirements.

Hi LTT-Community, I am new to this forum but I am a fan of LTT so I decided to give it a try. A friend of mine (sister of a good friend) is currently 15 years old and about to get in a notebook class at her school. Problem is she doesn't have a Windows notebook, only an old Macbook from her sister, but needs one for this class. Neither her or her family know alot about PCs so they've come to me for help. They got a note from the school with specs the notebook should have (I've included it in this post along with a translation). Before someone asks, I am from Austria, so english isn't my native tongue. Please excuse any errors Additionally she told me it should cost 800€ max (if someone has an idea for a suitable one for 900-1000€ please include it), if gaming on it is possible it would be a plus, battery life isn't that important to her as it's probably plugged in in school anyway and an external optical drive is an opton for her. Personally I've put it down to the ASUS F555UB-DM154T (altough it seems to have bad viewing angles) or the Acer Aspire E5-574G-57Z1. The reason I'm here is that I'm not really convinced that these are the right devices for her and I'd like to get a few 2nd opinions an the subject and possibly recommendations for suitable notebooks. Thanks in advance MrMP

Ok so i got my school laptop today, its weeker then i thought with a I5 6200U as the processor and an AMD firepro W4190M for graphics but the biggest problem i am having this far is that some programs like Steam are just a blury mess and i have no idea why, spotify, chrome and discord are unaffected by this but Steam is REALLY bad, its barely usable and i dont know what to do, catalyst controll centre dosent seem to have anything relevant in it, its basically just power saving stuff that i have mostly not touched but if anyone knows what the problem is id love to know because its borderline un usable for me right now

Hey, I'm a student and I'm looking for a 13.3" laptop that can do school work such as work and such, but also video editing like Sony Vegas Pro and music production like FL Studio. Battery life is crucial, as I need it to work for as long as possible, without it having to charge. This is for on-the-go schoolwork, video editing and music production. My budget is 800$, Thanks in advance -Andreas
