Is it as good at detecting viruses as other consumer brand anti virus programs like Malwarebytes? I'm particularly curious about its boot time scan function since there aren't many consumer grade programs that offer that. I was told by this one dude who tested it in a virtual machine that it really isn't that good. When he created his own malware, it basically detected nothing, while Malwarebytes for instance, did a pretty good job detecting most of it.

Or, rather... scanners. So I am using a HP Envy 4500 all-in-one; scanning, copying, printing, you name it. Recently, I've started having issues with the scanner. As far as I can tell, nothing has changed, and yet I am unable to scan anything to my computer. I'm using Windows 10, and in case I had missed something, I installed the drivers, restarted both the computer and printer and tried again: No dice. I keep receiving an error: And before you ask: yes, I double and triple checked all of those things, and I'm still having difficulty. What I'd initially assume is that there is some sort of fault in communication between the computer and the printer, and yet: I'm still able to print things. I can print things from Word or Chrome just fine, but when I try to open up HP scanner, I get the error from above. I really need your help on this one, techtips. I'm scanning things for my grandfather so he can have his pictures stored securely.

Good day all. Hope I place the post where it belongs. We are a small business hoping to get rid of paper. We have tons of invoices, receipts, BOLs and other documents. I tried searching online but I just got "standard" looking scanners. I wanted help into choosing an scanner that will help us in our goal of going digital; and not losing more invoices (warranties) Scanner requirements: Scan bulk quantities of documents Produce searchable PDF (indexing) Be able to place on tray different paper sizes (may be) Network capable (maybe wireless) Efficiency or speed should not be an issue, but something reliable regarding stuck papers. Thanks

So on my visit to Canada, I brought along two of my drones and decided it would be interesting to try and scan LMG HQ into the digital relm. Here is the result: http://drdp.ly/8TkVLN There is a 2d and 3d scan represented here. It is not the best quality because people kept moving around and also because i simply didn't get enough photos. Here is a pano, i will retry this also as it is stitching wierdly: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10155597428917094&set=a.10155597426232094.1073741840.629127093&type=3 <iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fjared.reabow%2Fposts%2F10155597428917094%3A0&width=500" width="500" height="503" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>

Just spotted this on Scan.co.uk which is a pretty reliable part provider. Biggest in the UK by far! What do you think this is?

Hi all, A couple of months ago, I decided to replace the majority of my system with new kit - my PSU was 8 years old, among other factors. I bought an Asus x470-F Gaming board, 2700X processor, 16GB Corsair Vengeance 3466MHz, Samsung 970 EVO (nvme m.2 / 256GB) and an Asus Strix Vega64 (I have a freesync monitor & I guess I'm a bit of an AMD fanboy when it comes down to it, it's nice to see them being competitive once again) a new AIO cpu cooler, case, fans etc. I ended up running into a lot of stability issues, and it seemed to be centred around the board I/O. Detailed list of issues below. TL;DR: I sent back the motherboard and CPU (I was advised to send the CPU as well by the retailer) and they 'confirmed a fault' with the m.2 slot, and sent me a replacement. When I observed the same behaviour with the new board, I sent it back along with the m.2 drive (as I don't have any other compatible kit to test myself). They 'confirmed a fault' with the m.2 drive and sent my motherboard back with a brand new drive. I still have the same issues outlined above. I've put the mobo / ram / cpu from my old system into my new case, with the new PSU / graphics card and it's all working just fine. The only other common component I haven't had tested is the RAM, but I've seen RAM failures before and suspect it would be a red herring, especially as the retailer have 'confirmed faults' with the mobo / drive previously... (If you're wondering, I got a Corsair rx750i PSU, which should be enough for 2700X + Vega 64, not that the crashes happened during max cpu + gpu load...) Contacting Asus resulted in them asking me to clear CMOS (by removing the battery...) and change a couple of power save settings. When neither of these seemed to help and I expanded on my issues with the SATA drives, they sent me a guide for setting up a RAID array . They had avoided answering my questions around whether there are any known issues with this board or specifically a compatibility issue with my drive(s). In my last message to them, I asked them if there are any known issues with this board, compatibility issues with my drive(s) and whether a BIOS fix is in the works. I haven't had a reply for over a week now, and I suspect I'm not going to get one; they cynic in me says they know they have issues with those boards but they don't want to confirm that, so they're ignoring me now rather than lying about it. The retailer had previously agreed to replace the motherboard with one from another manufacturer, but the last time I spoke to them, the agent on the phone said something along the lines of they'll have to confirm a fault before they can authorise a replacement. Given their testers have erroneously sent me a new board and a new drive, I don't have any faith in their ability to determine the actual problem and I'm worried the retailer are going to refuse to replace or exchange this motherboard. I've you've read this far; thank you! I'm now worried the retailer are going to find no fault with the board, or otherwise just refuse to replace it with a different board. If anyone has any advice on things I could try should I get the same board back, or how best to deal with the retailer (I think dealing with Asus themselves is a dead end), I'd really appreciate it! Cheers Ross

Hi! I have on my home theater pc lots of tracks with music from the 60', 70', 80' and 90' (around 200GB) but some of them have different names, even though they are the same track. My question is if you guys know a program which scans by 0es and 1es or something like that to find these tracks and delete them.

Hello! I have this problem with my pc: it has tons and tons of spyware on it. I have tried numerous times to remove it with apps like: -SUPERAntiSpyware -MalwareBytes -ESET -Bitdefender So far all of them say I am good, exept for Super Anty Spyware, witch gives me 56 'Adware.Tracking Cookies' every time I do a scan (Even after removing them at the end of the scan) And so I click System Tools and Program Settings - System Investigator and check the box that says 'Scan results for spyware, malware, etc.' and start it. I remove alot of 'unsigned' files and a couple masivley down-voted files. I run the scan again and see only 2 PUPs. I delete them, run the scan again and I see the first green tick that it gave me. I get really exited, restart my pc, and run the scan again. What do I see? 56 PUPs that are, again, only picked up by Super Anty Spyware... (I don't know it this had something to do with it, but I was downloading some system updated in the background too...) So guys, please let me know how I get rid of this stuff, as I am quite scared of someone stealing my passwords...

Hello all, A couple of months ago I brought a pre-built gaming pc with an I3 4170, GTX 960, 2TB HDD, 8GB Ram, Fractal Design Core 1300 and a 350watt psu. To this day I want to upgrade the powersupply as the one included looks dodgy and i want to upgrade the processor later on and ect. However I do not know which power supply to choose. My budget is £50 and I would like a 500w psu.

I haven't used geforce experience in a while, but the last time I did it actually worked. Now it won't detect any games. Ever. When I click the scan for games button, nothing happens. It just keeps doing the little loading animation bar at the bottom and nothing ever happens. There's no disk activity either so it's just not doing anything and I don't know why. I have the latest drivers and have tried reinstalling geforce experience. I tried running it as administrator. Tried changing the directories that it looks in so that they are either all only on my hard drive or all on ssd, nothing works.

Hello everybody! I was fortunate enough to be picked to be part of Thermaltake's new UK Modding trophy, alongside fellow modders HackJoe, F3nixM0ds, Davido_Labido and Abbas-it. The aim of the contest is to try and do something novel with their new chassis, the Core X31, as well as their new cooling lines and PSU kit. First up, a big thanks to Thermaltake, Scan and everybody else who helped to organise this competition, I'm sure it's going to be a blast! So what am I going to do? Well, unlike my usual projects, this is going to be much more flexible. I'll be working on the fly rather than doing everything in advance, this is mostly thanks to the hard deadline of April 27th where the mod needs to be complete. It should hopefully be an interesting ride for anybody who wished to follow the project too. My current plan is to try and pretty much remake much of the case, quite frankly. I'd like to rearrange the interior massively, utilising many of the techniques I've learnt over the last couple years. This project is going to be fully watercooled, but hopefully in an interesting way. Although I have to apologise in advance that there won't be any rigid tubing. Unfortunately because Thermaltake's rigid lines aren't available yet in the country, they insisted we all keep to flexible. That said, it's merely a hurdle that needs to be cleared, fingers crossed I can make it work. I'm going to be using a purple and silver/black theme inside, along with extensive RGB implementation through the motherboard, fans and lights. So let's get this show on the road shall we? Into the workshop to take some pics of the first bunch of hardware. I'm still waiting on the motherboard, GPU, CPU and some of the fittings, but a good chunk of the stuff has arrived. Starting with the case: There are certainly a lot of options for the interior here, although mostly if you're a bit boring I'm going to be stripping most of this and turning the insides into something quite unique. Construction of the case itself feels pretty standard for one of this type, lots of rivets and steel as expected. First of the hardware: Here we have the PSU, RAM and SSD. Solid kit, although I'd have preferred the PSU be 100% modular for the sake of cabling. That said, it's only the 24 pin and the 8 pin, so I really can't complain much at all. One stick of RAM is a little odd from an aesthetics point (along with missing out on dual channel) but again really isn't a big deal. The most important bit IMO is that the stuff all looks pretty good, which is a great starting point. WC Gear: Holy moly that's a lot of stuff! I opted for 2x of the 140mm rad kits rather than 240mm, the two rads should hopefully fit nicely where I'm planning. Going to be using the 140mm RGB Riing fans on this one, given the motherboard and lighting strips are RGB I figured it would be more sensible to stick with that theme. The two rads. They're certainly very solid, the paint finish is excellent too. Not so keen on how they're aluminium when the other blocks are nickel plated copper, but apparently the coolant should prevent issues. These pump/res kits certainly feel the part, can't really go wrong with a solid D5. The waterblocks themselves really have a good weight to them, you can tell how much material went into their construction. Very solid and reassuring. Lots of coolant, went with pastel white as I can then experiment more. Got to have plenty of fittings eh?

So I was trying to download Firefox as my back up browser and my Chrome wasn't working to I went to my internet explorer. I keyword searched Firefox and clicked on the first web sight, not knowing it was a add website. So I downloaded the installer, I ran it and it disappeared, so I tried again and the second time I realized it was a fake site. So I quickly ran a full system scan in Norton and all it found was about 10 tracking cookies (those cookies had my name in them for some reason) So I now assume everything is cleared up. Should I do anything more to make sure my computer is free of viruses or anything it might have done? And yes I know I`m idiot for not realizing earlier This is the sight if it helps anything (open at your own risk) www.open-download.com/Firefox

Right I've been looking for weeks for a decent, fairly light weight, 15.6 gaming laptop. I've came up with this list: 1: http://gaming.msi.com/products/notebook/ge-series?id=3541 2. http://gaming.msi.com/products/notebook/gs-series?id=3539 3: http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5700#kf 4: http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5696#kf 5: http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5458#kf 6: http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/predator-model/NX.Q05AA.001 7: http://www.sagernotebook.com/Gaming-Notebook-NP8658-S.html I also found this custom builder on scan.co.uk on which i found this: http://www.scan.co.uk/3xs/configurator/gsync-gaming-laptop-geforce-intel-skylake-15in I'm aware that all of these laptops have pretty much the same specs, but my question is which one would have like the best cooling, highest quality construction etc. Is there one make that stands out above the rest? Are there any makes to avoid? All little things that could make a difference. I really do want best price to performance I can. If anyone can help me choose i'd be thankful. I hate lot's of choices. And I lack any real expertise or experiance with any of these laptops. Oh also is there any UK retailer that sells the sager laptop? (Number 7)

Sorry I didn't know where I should post this. I live in the UK and I can't find any Corsair Link parts (commander mini, lighting node, ect) for sale on Amazon.co.uk, Scan or Overclockers any UK site. So I was wandering if they have been discontinued as I can't seem to find any info on this.

Hi I have a question for all of you British folks on LTT. Does anyone have an idea how Scan's pre-ordering system actually works? I'm looking into buying my K70 on Scan (since I can't find the right version anywhere else (except for Overclockers.co.uk)). The page tells me I can pre - order and that the item is due on the 13th of April (as of 5/04) Does this mean: - They will start shipping and selling on the 13th of April. - They expect to have stock on 13th of April. - I can expect my keyboard by the 13th of April. Thx for reading and have a good day, MrKickkiller

Hey, so my Avast Free Antivirus and Malwarebytes Antimalware Free (MBAM) gets stuck during a scan for the whole computer (custom scan in MBAM and the whole computer's scan in Avast(translated from Finnish)). Softwares doesn't crash. They still keep scanning but doesn't go forward after hitting one specific file. I can run "smart scan" with Avast and "threat scan" with MBAM without problems. The problematic file seems to be with Avast pots.dll.mui Not 100% sure what it is with MBAM but I believe it's the same becouse this is kinda new problem. Didn't occur one week ago. I am not sure if this is a needed info but my "threat scan" on MBAM one day ago and it found POP.Optional.OpenCandy. I removed it. MBAM = Malwarebytes AntiMalware

Hello, My Canon MP - MX870 series scanning is not working. I recently got a new PC and and its not working, on my old PC it was fine. Whenever i scan using the printer i choose my option, which is auto scan, and click "OK" to start the process. It says "Processing, please wait" for about 5-10 seconds and goes back to the screen right before you press "OK". I tried on the computer and i go to the Canon MP Navigator EX - MX870 series and i click "Auto Scan" , then it says "Scan by automatically selecting the settings and file format associated with the document type. See the instruction manual for how to set documents" i press "okay" and it says "Scanner is warming up... do not open the document cover" It takes a long time, 20-30 seconds, the brings a pop-up box named "ScanGear" and says "Internal occurred. Scanner driver will be closed Code:5,202,52" I put my papers i want to scan into the top part of the printer where it SHOULD scan. Please Help! i can supply more info if needed!

So I was looking for an R9 295x2. It's an expensive card so I was looking for a while to get one at a decent price, and because my fingers have been burned recently buying 2nd hand I decided it had to be new. I see an advert on Ebay, through Scan_int. This is Scans ebay page. It showed a picture of the R9 295x2 OC edition alongside the metal case that they get shipped in. It was a great price so I ordered it. When the card turned up it was in a cardboard case which I thought was odd so I emailed Scan about it. They said that they had used the wrong picture and that was that. I thought "Well the cards performance is not going to be changed because of a different box and left it at that. Upon looking at the card through aida64 I noticed that it wasn't running at the OC speed, just the normal speed. (It's not that much of a difference but that is not the point) So it turns out that they have sent me the standard card instead of the OC card. I sent another mail expecting apologies and a replacement but get told that they cant get the OC card and all they will do is give me a refund for the card that I purchased. BTW they were still advertising the OC card at the same price although the picture was now the cardboard box instead of the metal case until last night when I pointed it out to them. They know that I cannot get the card, especially the OC edition, for that price anywhere else so I am stuck. I feel lied to and mis-sold, but dont want to lose this card as I wont get it anywhere else any cheaper. Scan Computers have lost me as a customer now, plus I have vented about it a lot through my social media outlets. Sorry for the rant but I am seething.
