Hi everyone, Few days ago, i decided to clean up my case from dust. I unplugged all the power cables, turned off my power supply and opened my case. first i used a vacuum cleaner, then some wet wipes to remove the dust. I had the utmost care not to touch the sensitive parts like cables or circuits . After i'd finished, i pressed the power button and some errors appeared. i couldn't catch exactly where my computer was trying to scan, but it was somewhere in my C drive. this process seemed endless to me and then i decided to format my pc.For the format, just as i usually do, i tried using an external flash drive. But when the screen appeared to configure my ssd just like below:http://1.1m.yt/qi84TR.pngit was very slow to format and delete this reserved parts. it used to be very quick when my computer worked normally. It took me too many times to skip this and i finally achieved to install Windows. But it was way way slower than usual to complete the installation. (btw, this screenshot is not from my pc. after i'd deleted and formatted this reserved parts, i created them again.)After hours of effort, i realized that there is a shocking boot time of 1 min 45 sec. It used to be around 15-20 seconds before this cleaning shit happened. I scanned my SSD for errors with Samsung SSD magician but there was nothing unusual, just like below:http://4.1m.yt/45yC19m.jpgthere were no bad sectors either. Have i damaged my ssd and have to replace it with a new one ? or is it still possible to fix the problem ? PS: i'm not a native speaker so, sorry for any broken english. Thanks in advance.

I just bought a used Samsung 840 EVO from eBay and the guy said he used it for about a month. The Total Bytes Written says 2.26TB does that sound about right for a month of usage or is that more usage than what he said? It sounds like very little to me but also sounds like more than a months usage but that all depends on i guess what it was used for tho also.

I got an old 250gb 840 Evo and no space for it in my system anymore. I was thinking about getting one of these SSD cases and connect it to my Mainboard over the USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port to use it as a second Backup Drive. Is it a good idea and/or worth it? Any experience is appreciated!

I have a vertex 4 from ocz that I picked up a few years ago now, and a pretty new samsung 840 evo ssd. I was doing a simple test and found that my vertex 4 which I'm pretty sure is much older than the evo drives is actually faster. Can someone tell me why the vertex 4 might be faster than a newer 840 evo drive. Both use the sata 6Gb/s connector.

Hello everyone! I'm looking to get an MSI GS70 Stealth Pro gaming laptop which comes with a 1TB HDD and 128GB mSATA SSD. I have a Samsung 840 evo 250GB SSD which cannot fit into the GS70 mSATA SSD slot, but can perhaps fit in place of the 1TB HDD. The Samsung SSD is an aftermarket upgrade that I put into my old ASUS G73JH-X1 and has all of my files, programs and OS that I would like to keep. Will replacing the 1TB HDD with the Samsung SSD allow my old OS (which is Windows 7) and programs to work fine, and more importantly, is it possible to even replace the HDD with the SSD?

So I have two samsung 840 Evo's in my computer I built 6 months ago; a 250GB with the OS on it and a 500GB for games, Adobe software, etc. I also have 4x 2TB HDD's in a RAID10 array. My question is, Samsung magician software does not support RAID configurations of any kind, but can my computer work properly with the Magician software installed since it's not the SSD's that are in RAID config? I do a lot of 4K video editing and it just seems like my SSD's aren't behaving like they should, so I'm wondering if I should have installed the Magician software 6 months ago... Any info would be helpful, thanks

Hi. I have a 120GB Samsung 840 evo ssd, recently I have discovered that I have 50GB of space 'missing'. I used windirstat and spacesniffer, both of them says the same: that it is unknown space. I have win7 ultimate 64bit. Everything together: After using windows disk cleanup I've got a little bit more free space but the size of the unknown space got bigger too:

Hi guys, I'm using a Samsung SSD 840 Evo for my Windows partition and want to encrypt it using the Encrypted Drive feature with Bitlocker on a 64bit Windows 8.1. This way Bitlocker should just manage the keys of the build-in encryption of the SSD and don't have to do anything itself (thereby removing any perfomance impact of a software encryption). I've tried multiple guides (the StackExchange ones for example you find immediately using Google) but so far none of them worked. Whenever I want to enable Bitlocker (I've configured it to work without a TPM btw), it only gives me the option to either encrypt all existing files or the whole drive, both of which is not using the hardware encryption of the SSD. I've made sure that: - I whiped my SSD using SecureErase (I've tried this already multiple times) - the SSD has an up-to-date firmware - Samsung Magician says Encrypted Driver is enabled - Windows is installed in UEFI mode I realise that there are other (and probably better) ways to do a full disk encryption (like TrueCrypt) and that I shouldn't trust proprietary software for security. For my purposes Bitlocker is secure enough. I just do not want to lose any performance due to the encryption happening in software. Do you have any ideas what might be my problem? I'm willing to reinstall Windows (again) but only if it is promissing (no more trial and error, I've done that enough already...).

So i am building a new gaming PC rig, and i want to buy an ssd for about 100 bucks. I live in serbia, and from the prices and the SSDs here i picked out these 2 as the potential ones Samsung 840 EVO http://www.winwin.rs/ssd-sata3-120gb-samsung-840-evo-540-410mb-s-mz-7te120bw-1178234.html Kingston HyperX 3K http://www.winwin.rs/racunari-i-komponente/racunarske-komponente/hdd-ssd-i-oprema/ssd-diskovi/ssd-sata3-120gb-kingston-hyperx-3k-555-510mb-s-sh103s3-120g-1149819.html both are 120gb, which i think for a gaming PC is enough. So, which one should i pick? or are there any better options? : http://www.winwin.rs/racunari-i-komponente/racunarske-komponente/hdd-ssd-i-oprema/ssd-diskovi.html

so this is happening again. this is after the firmware update and the performance restoration tool. funny enough samsung's own benchmarking tool doesn't show the slow down after i updated the firmware. hi5

I am building a new computer and have purchased a 250GB Samsung 840 Evo SSD. I have windows 7 installed on my iMac bootcamp partition and would like to save myself the hastle of reinstalling Windows and programs etc on my new rig. I have seen guides for cloning a HDD to SSD, but since I would be essentially cloning a partition created by bootcamp, could the data migration get messed up? Which cable should I use for this process, since I can't really use a sata? Is there any recommended software I should use for this process, or is the default Samsung software ok for this job?

Sad news for the 840 EVO owners, the read performance of this SSD deteriorate with time. Here is the original post on Overclock.net (and its possible future fix of this issue) and the reddit post about it. I reproduced the issue with my 120gb 840 EVO (Seq Read up to 540MB/s): On the first screenshot, I tested the read performance of the C:\Windows folder that is one year old. Result: the SSD reads the files for the OS at around 70MB/s. On the second screenshot, I tested the read performance of a game I've installed a month ago. Result: almost 500MB/s On the third screenshot, I tested the read performance of an other game I've installed 5 month ago AND has been updated recently. Result: check the difference in read in the red rectangle, the 5 month old files read at 123MB/s and the new update installed a few weeks ago reads at 485MB/s. Time to stop recommending this SSD ? Or maybe it's happening with other SSDs, I don't know.

I have been searching through a few ssd's and I don't know which one to buy. I want the ssd to be 120-250 gb (depending on the price) and to use the operating system on it along with a few stram games. I hear good reviews about the samsung 840 EVO but there are many less expensive solutions but I don't want to sacrifice lifespan or performance. Please help.

Hey guys, thanks for reading. I've tried posting this problem twice before, but both times in the wrong section and didn't find a solution, just noticed there is a troubleshooting section so I'm posting here. I have a problem with my new build, it simply won't shutdown and I have no idea why, shutting the Pc down results in it turning off for around three seconds before it boots back up, same thing for putting it to sleep. However, if I shut it down, boot into Bios and then click the power button, the Pc will stay off. Another way to shut it down is to turn the PSU off and on after shutting it down. Does anyone have any ideas? I've seen people suggest faulty PSU cables, but I can see no physical fault with them. I've also seen two other people in all the searches I've made with the same motherboard and problem, but did not post a solution. EDIT: Nothing has worked so far, here is a list of what I have tried. Reset the bios. Cleared CMOS. Unplugged all PSU cables, and replugged. Tried all motherboard buttons for resetting Bios/CMOS. Tried unplugging all external devices. Went though whole bios looking for something that could be restarting the system. -PC Specs- Mobo: AsRock Z87 Extreme4 CPU: i7 4770k GPU: EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX SSD: Samsung 840 Evo Ram: Corsair Vengeance LP 1600MHZ PSU: Corsair CX600M Audio: Asus Xonar DGX Case: Fractal Define R4

So from my understanding, a TLC based SSD will be a lot cheaper, but also provide worse write speeds and the flash cells will degrade quicker, making it last longer. I have been doing some research and though the 840 EVO SSD from Samsung is TLC, the advanced MEX controller operates the TLC flash as SLC, with the other two bits of data in the NAND package as a cache, this technology is called Turbowrite, so from my understanding it is treating the NAND packages as SLC flash packages, with a cache, so does that mean that this TLC drive will last longer than most TLC drives? Because it sure seems like it.

I got a 250 GB Samsung 840 Evo for Christmas and just got around to migrating my data from my HDD to make the SSD my boot drive. I used the Samsung Data migration software and everything seemed to work fine at first. The computer booted without issue and I was able to log in, but after that both my razer mouse and keyboard stopped working completely. I've tried unplugging and rebooting and nothing helps. It seems to happen as soon as startup programs start launching. I should mention that I plugged in my Logitech g500 and it seems to be working. If anyone has any tips on solutions they would be much appreciated.

I am wanting to replace a few things in my build, the parts i got are Motherboard (Asus Z97 ROG Ranger), CPU (4690k) and wanting to do a fresh OS install (Windows 8.1 64bit) I currently have Windows 7 installed on a Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, and I can use Secure erase to get rid of that/back it up. Other components in the build are 8GB G.Skill Sniper 1600Mhz, MSI R9 270, WD Blue HDD with Games and Programs on it, And a Antec 550 Power Supply. Pretty much I just want to know the best way to go about doing this. But I have it in a NZXT H440, Can I get away with using a external DVD Drive for the OS install, Will the motherboard recognize it in the Bios ? I do have a normal Sata CD drive I could plug in and do it that way I guess. But yeh any advice would be greatly appreciated.
