I'm curious if you can play normal VHS tapes in a D-VHS player. I'm getting artifacting on my setup and want to know if this specifically would be the problem.

Hello everyone. Since I found no answer in the interwebs and this forum yet I hope to find an answer now. Here a description of our situation: 1. ISP modem in bridge mode (Because we need more than one public IP) Connect Box for UPC - cbn ch7465lg-lc 2. TL-WDR4300 3. Zy-Xel GS 108 B Switch. Why a switch? Because we have to! No direct connections to the router possible due to long distance. 4. PC's We are 3 guys in the same flat and want to play the same games at the same time every now and then. For example ArmA 3 Battlefield series, CoD series, Rainbow Six Siege etc. The problem is that often we can't join the same lobby/server or after some minutes at least one person gets kicked or times out. I know this is probably because of the ports. I already made static IP's for each pc, changed the userports in the game properties, but it's a whole bunch of really annoying work to to that stuff for every game. I usually used the fuction "virtual server" on the router to forward the ports. But there also is a function called "port trigger" which, as far as I understood, makes an own connection with a user when a certain port is triggered. Which means no problems while gaming even with no forwarded ports or custom userports of the games. Sadly our router only has 20 slots available for this function and it does not support the amount of games we used to play together since some games already need several slots. Now my real questions about this are: - Can anyone explain me how networking works to understand what's really needed and what's not? - Do I do unnessecarry things in my setup? - Do I just need an other router? Are there routers with more than 20 slots to trigger ports to make life easier? - Is there just no other solution than the annoying port forwarding? - And last but not least: Why the hell isn't it possible with the current state of technology to play a game with 2 or more players at the same time without any problems? I really hope I'll find some answers in here or at least some helpfull tips to get slightly in the direction of what I could do to make the situation better. Greez Consi

Hello, I've been thinking about setting multiple acces points (ubiquiti) in my house. However, I don't have ethernet/utp-cables running in my house/through my walls. So i'll have to use powerline adapters. I don't like this solution because it's very clunky, I need 2 outlets and doesn't perform that well. Is there any other solution or does something like an acces point inside a powerline (or vice versa) exist ? Thank you very much for replying !

Hey. I am looking for a new keyboard and while i want a shorter keyboard i don't want to sacrifice the numpad. So the Cooler Master MasterKeys Pro M RGB is a perfect representation of what i would want. But i want Cherry Blues. and individually lit RGB so i can color keys for which finger to use. (Learning to write with all fingers atm) I know they have RGB versions but without Blue switches. If you have experiance with this keyboard, how is it do press "Delete"? For example if you were to delete a file Shift+delete. Do you have to press a thrid button "FN" to do such on this keyboard? heres the layout. I'ts perfect, though as said i want Cherry Blues, Individually lit RGB and i want to know my options. Any inputs? If it can't be found on www.prisjakt.no there's 98% certain it's not available in my country, and import taxes are ridiculous. Thanks in advance

I have two computers running in my shared office space with a combined maximum power draw of about 700-800 watts under full load. I'd like to use an air conditioner in the same room. The one I have is rated for 450 watts which leaves 1800 - 750 - 450 = 600 watts left over. I'm not sure what else is on the circuit but I think both computers and the air conditioner wouldn't trip the breaker. Even if it won't trip the breaker, is it a good idea to have an AC unit on the same circuit as the computers? I know there will be a voltage drop when the AC unit starts, so is this likely to be problematic?

Hello my friends! Why does everyone seems to hate USB microphones ? I was think about getting AT2020 or BlueYeti [USB editions], but after reading some stuff i am not sure what to get at all. Is the audio-quality between USB and XLR connection that noticeable? What are your recommendations on me for what Model microphone i should go and what connection also? [ Just for more info: I am pure amateur, just want to get good quality microphone for everyday usage and sometimes to sing on it without any background noise or anything at all, all i want is crystal clear voice of myself. I got so tired of cheap microphones that's the real reason i want to switch to something more professional and durable over the years] Thanks in advance, best of luck!

Amazon knows what consumers like, that is exceptionally speedy shipping that can outright replace the need to go into a retail store for most of their needs. Now with same day delivery (and even within 1-2 hours), Amazon is poised to make your average Walmart cry at the idea that consumers won't even need to leave their homes to get household items delivered the same day. I'm all for this, the benefit is only going to increase once Amazon starts fielding their drones for local deliveries, cutting out the middle man (in this case, UPS or DHL or FedEx) entirely which will save them even more in the long run on shipping, which is pricey on its own. http://techcrunch.com/2015/05/28/amazon-expands-same-day-delivery-to-new-markets-drops-price-to-free-for-orders-over-35/

My new Asus laptop arrived on Friday, and it says under display adapters, that it is using both the Intel HD4600 graphics and the Geforce GT 820M at the same time. From what I understand, the HD4600 provides the image whilst the GT 820m 'enhances' it by programming straight into the frame buffer. Is this correct? Please help me to understand how this works, it doesn't bother me, it just seems like a very strange setup Edit: Maybe not strange, just a bit pointless.

Hello! I am trying to upgrade my memory on my PC, and I have a question: Would I be able to mix these two x2 8GB modules: http://www.amazon.com/PNY-1600Mhz-Desktop-Memory-Module-MD16384KD3-1600-X9/dp/B00D1IUEHW/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1429246271&sr=1-4&keywords=16+gb+ram with my current x2 4GB modules: http://www.amazon.com/G-SKILL-Ripjaws-1600MHz-PC3-12800-F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM/dp/B004KY719A/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1429245970&sr=1-1&keywords=F3-12800CL8-8GBXM for a total of 24 GB? Would that be problematic? Thanks in advance.

Hi, This is just a quick question regarding upgrading my ram. I have four ram slots (two of which are currently taken up). I bought an 8gb pack (2x4) and I was wondering, is it okay to buy the *exact* same pack again and just fill my remaining slots or is it not recommended to do that? Chris

Hey LTT, I am looking at getting an EVGA GTX 780 FTW edition, and I saw on Newegg that I can get a refurbished version for $400, or a new version for $500. Would getting a new card be worth the extra $100 bucks? Or should I save the $100, go with the refurb and put the extra money toward another PC part like a CPU cooler or some HDDs?

Post at /. Source for image. Well... isn't this a pile of manure. "So, you are saying that if we regulate you correctly, nothing will change? ... So why shouldn't we? Or rather, why should we believe you?" These are the people who took $200 Billion to do these upgrades in 1996, but didn't do them because "Screw consumers, moar money." effectively. How could anyone trust them in this instance? Comments that "get it" from the source: What do you guys think?

Hi guys. We bought this CPU. Which apparently doesn't come with a heatsink. We bought this heatsink. Which came with no mounting bracket but doesn't need one apparently. The CPU is a Socket G34 Opteron 6000 series one. The Heatsink's specifications says "Socket Type: Socket G34" & "CPU Support: Opteron Processor 6000 Series" However, it doesn't fit. At all. I'm confused. So confused. Picture example: The black brackets around the CPU came with the Motherboard. The heatsink is all that was in the package. The CPU was all that was in the package. I tried removing the black brackets, but the screws on the heatsink are about 3mm off on both sides (the heatsink isn't long enough), so I can't screw it in that way. What voodoo magic is necessary to make this work? The only potential problem I see is that the Socket type it mentions is Socket G34 (LGA1944), which ... confuses me even more. What does that mean? Is Intel's socket G34 different from AMD's socket G34? Why are they then called the same socket? That would irritate me, to no end. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Vitalius.

Hi, all! So I am in the process of buying parts to build my gaming PC. I bought a MSI GTX 760 (TF OC Gaming Edition 2GB) and the Intel Core i5-4670K. Now my problem is the motherboard; I thought of getting the MSI Z87-G45 Gaming, but It only has Ethernet and a motherboard with WiFi would spare me from buying a 7 meter Ethernet cable... Does a PC perform better or have any advantages if the motherboard is from the same manufacturer as the graphics card? Because if yes I would probably stick with the MSI Z87-45 Gaming board, and if not then I might choose to buy another one at around the same price range. Have a great day, Oslosurfer

Hey guys first time posting on the Linus forums, I heard everyone is nicer here then on toms hardware so I thought I'd give it a go haha. Anyways I recently upgraded my rig to the new 280x, expecting that I could max any game at 1080p. Unfortunately that's not what I've been experiencing, I get like a 5 fps difference with this then with my old 560ti and benchmarks I've seen around on the internet suggest that shouldn't be happening... I'm running: -Core i7 920 OC to 3.8ghz -6gb ddr3 ram @ 1066mhz -An average 1TB hardrive that has been showing its age -and the new MSI 280x Even though my processor and ram is kinda old and outdated it's not bad, could there be a bottleneck? Also due to my old and prety cramped Antec 900 case I had to mount my gpu right next to the power supply, and my temps are pretty hot, hotter then how my 560ti was. It idles around 40 degrees C and I just did furmark and I stopped runnign it once my GPU got to 92 degrees but It looked like it would still climb, is it limiting it's clock because of that? Thanks for your folks time Also sorry for the gray highlights, I copied and pasted this from my tomshardware thread and for some reason it brought along that
