(Asus Z170-K Motherboard, 16 GB XPG 2200 mhz ram, intel I-7 6700K at 4 ghz, radeon RX5500 XT Oc edition with 8GB of vram, previously the 500w power supply in my computer-it was prebuilt-now a 750w evga supernova modular power supply ) I’m having issues when I start my computer where the machine will not post, all the fans go full blast but the gpu fans are completely off. It will stay like this until I hold the power button and post it in safe mode. I know it is not the power supply because I just purchased a new one and hooked it up to my machine to more than cover the wattage I needed. 1. Will this hurt my computer or any of my data? 2. How do I stop this problem and how can I tell what’s causing it.

Lets go with the long full story as those are great for troubleshooting Ive had a r9 280x gpu for almost 5 years now, Ive decided to upgrade for a few reasons: 1. to play DOOM (because vulkan stopped working for an unknown reason and now i have 2 fps instead of the old 100.) 2. to play the new DOOM 3. one of the fans stopped working (the one further from the pcie) 4. VERY high gpu usage in some games (ck2, tomb raider) and therefore its loud So my 5700XT arrives. I go to r/AMD into the troubleshooting thread and ask what now, someone says it should work fine but clean driver reinstall is best. So I follow a DDU guide: download latest drivers, turn off windows autoinstalling drivers, go to msconfig and restart into safemode, run DDU then turn off, unplug pc, swap the gpu, turn on pc. It is in safemode again. I check to see what the DDU did, I cant see any changes, the driver files are still there. So I look for everything with "radeon" in it and go deleting. I delete: 1. the radeon-software-adrenalin files in c/amd 2. the same files in c/amd/packages/apps 3. the same files in c/amd/packages/drivers 4. some pf file called RADEONSETTINGS in c/windows/prefetch 5. many strangely named (example: 54ae5f4ad2f1...) qmlc files in appdata/local/radeonsettings/cache/qmlcache Then I try to install the latest drivers(20.4.1), Error 192 - cant install cos limited capabilities or something, welp, looks like its cos safemode. So I go to msconfig again and do normal boot, restart and here I am in normal resolution, frowning face windows did an oopsie. It restarts, frowning face windows did an oopsie It restarts, frowning face windows did an oopsie It restarts, something about backup, I go to advanced options, advanced boot It restarts, I select 4.) safe mode It restarts, here I am in safemode again, where I began all those minutes ago, I try drivers again, same error, so I restart, what else to do? It restarts, frowning face windows did an oopsie It restarts, frowning face windows did an oopsie even before I saw the normal resolution It restarts, normal resolution, no crashes, stable, hmm, so I enter PIN and here I am, everything magically works. I can finally install the drivers, so I do, it works. New interface, 2020, whatever. All´s good. So like the idiot I am I restart my pc one final time. It restarts, frowning face windows did an oopsie It restarts, frowning face windows did an oopsie It restarts, safe mode again, after a few seconds of functioning however, crash It restarts, something about backup, I go to advanced options, advanced boot It restarts, I select 5.) safe mode with networking It restarts, here I am in safe mode again but with internet this time. I check my files: 1. win10-radeon-software-adrenalin is there in c/amd 2. nothing in c/amd/packages 3. no RADEONSETTINGS but 3 new pf files in c/windows/prefetch , RADEONSOFTWARE and RADEONINSTALLER and WIN10-RADEON-SOFTWARE-ADRENALIN 4. no qmlc files whatsoever 5. some new files in c/amd/CNext The same fan still isnt working (unless I spin it myself, making new thread for it, this is too weird), gpu is lit up but not being detected by device manager (neither are the drives tho) So I go to linusdroptips for advice as I always do and here I am writing this, what now? Keep restarting until it magically fixes itself again? If there is an issue then it will just break again with the next re-boot. So fellas, what to do? edit: update, After downloading a missing dll file called atiadlxx I managed to install the latest stable driver and use the pc for a few hours until it crashed again. After about 7 more crashes and restarts I got back and noticed that the driver wasnt working at all, it didnt launch at startup (after reading logs i figured it was the driver trying to start up that was causing the crashes) and it couldnt even be launched any other way. So I installed the driver again and it worked. Until another crash of course. One of my theories is that windows is faulty (supported by the missing dll file) so I ran sfc /scannow which found a few corrupted files. That didnt seem to fix anything at all so I ran ddu and amd cleanup again and tried to get the latest optional (20.4.1) drivers again but had a corruption during the install. Tried again and got the atiadlxx.dll thing again. So I replaced it with the downloaded one and it installed but kept crashing. I have now put in my old gpu (280x) and its running fine on these (20.4.1) drivers. The crashes Im getting keep having the WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR which is a hardware failure so can it still be a windows issue or is it a faulty gpu? Truly Advanced Malfunctioning Devices. edit2: Update 2: So, I have reinstalled Windows according to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldqFdcGL1X0 which allowed me to keep all my everything still here. I then deleted the windows.old folder with the disk cleanup tool and restarted to be sure. While it is not a "fresh" install that would wipe my whole entire drive, even if I did such a thing I would still redownload everything that I have on here so it wouldnt change a thing. There is nothing unessential on my PC. So what now? Do I try to put in the new GPU and see if it works? I have noticed that the RADEON files in c/windows/prefetch are missing so perhaps my drivers wont function as they should. Do I do the whole driver wipe again just to be sure? edit3 Update 3: So I istalled the latest chipset drivers and then used DDU again to reinstall the gpu drivers again. It went fine without a hitch, functional PC afterwards. Then I turned off the PC and put in the new GPU. Booted fine, everything functional. I ran a benchmark for Tomb Raider, 333 avg fps on highest, lovely. Ran it again, same thing. I noticed a strange sound coming from the GPU at high load(TR was pushing it to 100% at all times). Will put in the recording of this sound. You can hear the fans a bit altough in reality theyre not that loud but the sound Im referring to is a high pitched one that almost sounds like torture, maybe coil wine? While I went to listen to it in another room, the crash happened. Blue screen WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR as always. Looks like it wasnt Windows then. The only possible issue remaining is the BIOS, Ill try to update that next. The motherboards website says to get the "all in 1" drivers but isnt that just the chipset+gpu drivers? I have those already. Will post results at some point within the next 24 hours. gpu recording audio.mp3 edit4: update4: I updated the BIOS, the black screen after the restart was very long and I was starting to get worried but it eventually booted up. When I clicked on the up-pointing arrow in the bottom-right corner of my screen to see whether my drivers were running I was once again met with a blue screen PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA or something along those lines. Okay, new type of an error, I´m going somewhere, after a restart however, all was fine. IT WORKS! It has been stable so far at least, if this were to change I´d certainly come back and update the post. My PSU fan is making some strange noises , there seems to be some metal clacking in there which was kinda fixed when I turned the pc back up as it has been laying on the ground for the last few days while I was constantly swapping the GPUs. Vulkan issue wasn´t fixed, DOOM is still a broken mess running at 60fps with OpenGL, pretty sad considering I was gettin 100fps with my old card back when Vulkan worked but oh well, I sure hope the new DOOM Eternal works with Vulkan or I can´t imagine how much fps I will get in that one. Another nitpick: the GPU fans dont spin unless I´m playing a game which is a little concerning as according to radeon software the card still runs at almost 50°C. Its even hot to the touch, the backplate that is. I will look into changing this so they are always spinning even when idle, they are extremely silent and even while gaming the cpu fan is still louder. A strange thing (bug?) also, according to device manager my gpu is at 40-60% usage while watching a video or stream but radeon software says it isn´t being used at all.

GOAL: Boot into SAFE MODE > Run DDU to remove old GPU drivers > Install new GPU drivers > Update BIOS > Hopefully have my monitor running at 144Hz again and games above 1FPS. ISSUES: - Any changes I make seem to revert or are forgotten during restart (MSConfig settings, pinned tabs that have been closed reopen, any form of entering Safe Mode, programs I've set to not open on startup.) the list goes on. - DDU need to be in safe mode to run. - All forms of entering Safe mode aren't working (Via Windows settings, holding shift at login>restart button, command, MSconfig menu, F8 spam etc.) I've had almost zero issues with the system for the last 5yrs until I replaced the CPU Cooler and GPU. Is this normal?

I have a 40 Megabit/s broadband connection and all other devices except my PC run at that speed but on my PC I only get 1 Megabit/s and I can't seem to figure out the problem. When I boot in safe mode with networking, I get the full speed which is quite weird. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the LAN drivers many times. Each reinstall fixes the problem for 2-3 days and then the problem comes back again. I have tried reading similar threads on this problem but the methods listed didn't solve my problem. This is my PC config.

Hello everyone, So recently my MSI GTX 760 Hawk started doing strange, when I opened up a game, I would get 10 fps while normal I would get at least 120. I looked at MSI afterburner and I saw that the graphics card was running at 135 mhz, so I thougt that I had overdone my overclock and that it turned itself into safe mode. So I turned it down but when restarting the game, nothing changed. I started to think that maybe there was an issue with the bios of my graphics card, so I changed the bios (there are 2 biosses on the card) but again nothing changed but this time for testing I used Heaven Benchmark. First I got 10 fps but then when I clicked on the desktop screen next to the heaven screen the framerate would shoot up to it's normal 50 -70 fps, strange. I reinstalled the graphics driver, installed older drivers that worked in the past but still nothing changes... Anyone who knows what's wrong with my card? My system: AMD x4 860k @ 4,4 Ghz Asrock A88m-g/3.1 8GB kingston ram msi gtx 760 hawk cooler master B600 600W psu

So yesterday I switched out my graphics card(gainward gtx 580) with a GTX 560 to test it out. When I booted into Windows I was expecting to have to install new drivers but apparently not, I went and benchmarked it and I was pleased with the results. I then switched the cards back and left it for the morning. When I turned on my computer, everything seemed fine, I clicked the windows option(to boot into) and I got a black screen. My first thought was to turn it off and on again, that didn't work so it may have been the drivers so I tried booting into safe mode, I'm seeing the circle loading thing but nothing has happened for about 30 mins. After some googling I saw someone with a similar problem that all they did was change the voltage on their ram but there is 3 problems about that 1) I can't access my bios because my stupid asus motherboard doesn't recognise USB input at POST(it was fine before I upgraded to Windows 10 and I have tried updating the drivers) 2) I don't know my ram I took it out from a prebuilt system 3) it seemed to be working for a year so I doubt it has something to do with that. And do now I'm stuck and going to this forum for help

Well, the other day the PC in my sig crashed while watching YouTube. Upon restarting, it did not show an image on the monitor, after a couple of days of troubleshooting by myself I am at a loss, because, as the title says, when I switch over to the integrated graphics it shows up just fine in the UEFI, Windows 10 refuses to boot properly but works in safe mode where the GPU is also detected as a 7900 series gpu, and, when I went to flash the bios, ATIFlash also had no trouble with flashing, nor did it give any errors, but the card still refuses to show an image after I switch over to it as my primary output device in the UEFI, no matter how I configure it, igpu enabled, disabled, whatever, runing it on PCIe gen 1, 2 or 3. I've not tried all of the ports because I don't have a DP monitor handy, but the other 3 do not work. My Z77 Extreme3 is on the 1.50 BIOS revision The Sapphire 7950 DualX got flashed from the original BIOS to 015.040.000.001.000000, and back to original, and back to 015.040.000.001.000000 I'd hate to put it in the oven or what have you, but I'll try if it really is my last resort. If that fails, would it perhaps work in CF with the other 7950 handling the output? BTW, as I currently do not have the money to buy a new GPU, which games run on HD4000 integrated graphics?

Can I get some help please I'm desperate. So a little bit of history: I bought a new 1TB hard drive. I immediately tried to install it but had a hard time inserting it into the drive bay due to the CPU fan being in the way. So I removed the fan, reapplied thermal paste since why the heck not, removed the gpu and cleaned the fans as well because why not, installed the new hard drive, put everything back, and booted up the pc. Everything was working well. I was even able to play 3 games of Dota 2. But later on at night, I played a game of Tekken 7 with a friend. Suddenly colored vertical lines appeared while playing the game. The lines would appear, then the screen would be blank with a somewhat colored screen, then it would go back to normal. This happened twice until finally, I got a green screen. After I got the green screen, my pc restarted. It tries to boot into normal mode but the problem is that it can't. The green screen would just reappear then the pc would restart and try to boot into normal mode but instead get the green screen again then restart again. This becomes an endless cycle if I choose the option to boot normally. The PC is only accessible through Safe Mode. Eventually I learned to remove the GPU drivers through DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in safe mode. If I do this, the pc boots normally. I thought it was an issue with outdated drivers so I also tried uninstalling the drivers then installing the latest drivers from AMD but this still gives me the green screen. Right now, my pc is only usable if the drivers are uninstalled. I tried re-seating the graphics card but the problem persists. PC Specs: * Processor = AMD A10-6790K Richland * GPU = AMD Radeon R9 270X (I'm using the APU as a processor only and this as a dedicated card) * RAM = G.Skill - Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 * PSU = SeaSonic S12II 620W (80 Plus Bronze) * MOBO = Gigabyte - GA-F2A88XM-HD3 Micro ATX FM2+

Hi everyone, I recently discovered a problem with one of my PS4s right before going on vacation to another country. I few days ago I came back to my country again and started to analyze the problem, but I unfortunately haven't found the solution. Here's what's up. The PS4 turns on, but instantly goes to safe mode and asks me to update the PS4 using a USB. So, I downloaded the PS4 update from Sony's website, but it then requested the other download, the "Complete System Software File". I went once again and downloaded the other file instead, but it alerted me that all the data on the PS4 would be delete. So, of course I didn't proceed with that. I don't want to lose the savegames I have inside (Before anyone asks: No, I don't have PlayStation Plus, so I can't re-download the saves). Here's what I've tried to do so far: [Booting into Safe Mode] - Rebuilding PS4 Database. - Applying Default settings. - Updating PS4 using USB, Internet and a Disc. [Connecting PS4 HDD to PC] - Tried to recover data using EaseUS, RecoverIt and other programs. - Booted my PC with the latest Ubuntu OS to see if I could access the Data (Thought this would make sense, as the PS4 is using a Unix based OS) All of these attempts were unsuccessful. After trying to recover the data using the PC I read online that the PS4's HDD is encrypted, making it very difficult to access it. So, today I was once again trying to solve this issue and I came across this: Website: https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps4/Files_on_the_PS4#Partitions Do you guys think it would work if I formatted that last partition and tried to update the system again? I really don't know what to do anymore. All I want is to recover the savegames. So, if you guys could help me with this, I would be very thankful.

Hey folks I've been having this problem for the past two weeks. My WiFi has been giving me a max of around 5 mbps download in normal windows operating mode, however if safe mode with networking I get around 15 mbps. I've tried many different solutions including: reinstalling drivers, getting a more generic wifi driver, flushing my DNS, updating windows, clean booting windows, restarting the router, choosing the optimal WiFi channel and running antivirus scans and malwarebytes scans. I connect to the 5GHz AP on the router even though I am fairly far from the router (I get about 24% connection strength) as it gives me much greater speeds than 2.4 GHz even at this range. My wireless adapter for my desktop is the Archer T6e AC1300. I have also fiddled with some adapter configuration changes to no avail. If anyone has any advice or possible solutions please let me know.

Hi Guys My friend asked me to backup his old hdd for him, and it gas windows XP on it so I thought I'd use it on my X58 system It works, but it automatically boots. It asks me to sign in, so I do. (there's only one user registered). When I sign in, it tells me I have to activate Windows. I can't do anything else. I get the activation window with 3 options: Turn off system Activate via internet Activate via phone I tried the phone method and it doesn't work. I tried the internet method and it can't establish a connection. I'm using a wifi adapter but even so I don't get any option to connect to wifi. I thought it would be a good idea to start in safe mode, but I can't get into safe mode. It says I need to use a proxy server but I have no idea how Please help me What should I do? I just want to play some old games :/

Motherboard Pegatron M2N78-LA Bios 5.10 Processor AMD Phenom 9750 Quad Core 2.40 GHz OS Windows 7 Professional - 64bit Video Card (Onboard) Nvidia GeForce 9100 Nvidia GT 430 Ram 8gb DDR2 (4x 2gb) Power Supply 430w Computer turns off (no BSOD, just powers off) about a minute after loading windows 7 normally Computer will run fine in safe mode, even under load, with no shutoffs I removed the video card and re-plugged all motherboard power, running off onboard graphics Ran Memtest with no issues on Ram Fans run fine, and replaced the thermal paste on the CPU, so I don’t think it's overheating. Computer will turn off while attempting to boot from Linux boot CD, even with main HDD removed It seems to me that it has to be a hardware issue given it won’t even boot from a CD, but the fact that it runs just fine in win7 safe mode makes me doubt it could be the CPU or PSU. It's a very old computer used only as a media device, but the puzzle of what is wrong has me stumped.

Hi, Yesterday, my XPS 15 9560 suddenly stopped working. I'm running Windows 10 pro, didn't install any new software myself, and now it doesn't boot into anything other than safe mode. Sometimes it doesn't even boot to safe mode with network drivers enabled. I have no clue as to what caused this, I tried disabling the devices with the newest drivers, the ones that have no driver assigned to them, and even tried resetting Windows with a Media creation tool stick. I don't have any backups that I put on a stick previously unfortunately, but none of those options above work either. Nothing but booting to safe mode works. If anyone here has encountered this problem before, or knows how to help in any way, without me losing all my data, I'd appreciate it a ton. Thanks in advance.

So this is not exactly a problem, but I am still asking just in case it is a symptom for a larger, more serious problem. Here are the specifications: Asus B85 Trooper i7-4980HQ (No, this is not a typo) H110i v2 DDR3-1600 G-Skill Aegis 8GB*2 Asus GTX 970 Adata SU650 480GB as boot drive 3TB Toshiba spinny boi CX550M Mobo, RAM and GPU is from 2016-ish and the i7 was around half a year ago, AIO 1.5 years or so, SSD about a year before now, the HDD somewhere along the lines of 4 months So when I boot up the computer, it: Starts up fine to the BIOS screen, then shuts off temporarily. The LED in the mouse turns off. Something audibly "pinged". Then, boots to windows safe mode where I have to choose safe mode or normal mode. Selecting normal mode, the LED in the mouse turns off, and something audibly "pinged" again. Then, and only then does it boot up to Windows 7. I have exactly zero clues why or how this is happening. While this is doesn't stop me from using my computer, it is kind of unsettling and annoying. Help would be appreciated, thanks! I swear to god if it is the i7 I'm gonna go punch a cup of water

Windows 10 boot issue after changing RAM setting in msconfig
Guest posted a topic in Troubleshooting
TL;DR Checked the max memory option in BOOT Advanced option of msconfig, now Win 10 won't boot even in safe mode. Can use a linux to modify any win configuration files. _____ As only half of my RAM was visible in my Win 10, I followed this guy's advice to check the msconfig max memory option and write the physical installed amount (after clicking on OK and reopening the BOOT Advanced Options I could see that it stayed checked but set itself to 0 ... little did I thought it can do such harm though its meaning was obvious). The actual cause was the memory wrongfully seated in its slot so I checked the BIOS upon restarting and everything was showing well. Now, the real issue is that Windows won't boot (Blue screen, stop code BAD SYSTEM CONFIG INFO). Things I've tried by inserting the win 10 repair tools CD: * multiple system restores completed "successfully" but the problem persists after restart * auto repair/ diagnosing tools * unable to start safe mode If it helps, I am able to boot a linux on this machine and edit any Win files that might refer to the msconfig change I did. Also, there is a basic CMD in the advanced option that can be useful. Thank you in advance for any idea! ______ P.S. 1) Maximum Memory defaulting back to 0 is normal behavior. - source 2) I also set no paging file, but I don't think it has anything to do with it. 3) I didn't save a C drive clone.- 6 replies

Hi , so im just going to get into it : Yesterday i received my brand spanking new GPU and continued to install D.D.U ( Display Driver Uninstaller ). I went into settings - Update and recovery - recovery - advanced settings - change start up process. And instead of a restart , instead of booting in safe mode, It just shuts down. Just to see and test out on how fucked up is my computer , i tried to enter in the BIOS. it restarted at least 21 times. One of my friends had the idea to brute force into safe mode by opening the system configuration and selecting to boot at safe mode..... aaaaaaaaand nothing but a dark screen , a computer that will turn on but no image via my HDMI port , HEck , i tried to switch into my CPU's graphics and n/a. Ones i have my PC running up again , going to buy driver talent pro and update all my driver, But as a last resort , im going to factory reset my windows to clear the gunk out. I have a theory where i fucked up : I haven't updated my bios micro/ driver code for 5 years cuz la kek me the N00b who doesn't know how to do such thing while at the same sentence calls himself a PC enthusiast, Now i found out that im a shallow one and i ask you , You beautiful human being to help me out of this 1st world problem. Thank you, LTT forums.

I have automatic updates on my windows 10 pro. It has installed windows 10 1803 and I want to update it with windows 10 1809. For that, I have tried "windows update assist" and "media creation tool", USB flash drive, ISO file etc. But didn`t updated. After a soft restart at the starting "Undoing the changes"?. So I tried to delete the last update by booting into "safe mode", but I realised that after starting the safe mode the explorer.exe was crashing. I was only able to open windows settings (not control panel) by pressing "windows key + i". I also tried to run from run.exe by pressing "windows key + r" it also crashes randomly and if it works it is not opening the "control panel"? The PowerShell option is also used but not working for me. The explorer.exe working fine in normal mode. So pl guide me what should I do???

Hey! I was playing around with my monitor resolution so I can get better fps. I decided to put my screen Resolution to 1152x648 which made my monitor go black screen. I'm using an old monitor from couple of years ago. I don't know how to fix this since I can't see anything on the screen to change back the resolution to a compatible resolution. I used the Intel Graphics Tools to change the settings before. How can I fix this? I read that I need to go to safe mode? How to do that with a black screen? Thank you in advance! P.S I FIXED IT BY CONNECTING MY PC TO MY TV AND IT WORKS... I managed change the resolution back to normal.

So this is how it started: I wanted to fix something in my pc. I saw a guide saying I have to boot in via safe mode. "Ok" i said. Now I'm in the login of the safe mode screen and its asking for a password. Now being the smart little snowflake I am, I never set a password for my pc, only a pin. And even when i reseted my microsoft password three times, it still won't work. I try to access: startup repair -Nope Command prompt -Nope RESETING WINDOWS 10 -Nope Does anyone have any solutions cuz I'm afraid I'm gonna break my monitor with my keyboard soon.

Problem: After windows boots (after windows 10 logo), but before the login screen appears, my monitors go black, no cursor is visible. I run a dual boot config, twice windows 10 (64 bit) one for personal use and one strictly for work, installed on different physical SSD's, not partitions. The problem only occurs when booting to the personal drive, the other one works just fine. Problems started after a windows update on my personal drive a while ago. In the midst of the update, the PC had to reboot, and booted to the wrong drive (Which is weird, the personal drive is set as primary boot drive). I immediately rebooted back to my personal drive, but only got a black screen. Rebooting from there results in a black screen again. Rebooting over and over again doesn't change anything, windows recovery never kicks in. The PC can boot into safe mode (F8 method, luckily boots in safe mode on the right drive). (only my secondary monitor works in that case, I don't know if this is normal?) From safe mode, no windows updates were available, so I guess the update did install completely? So, my next thought was this might be a GPU driver issue, no updates available though, I used DDU to uninstall and reinstall drivers. I got the latest driver from AMD's website. The problem almost seemed fixed at first, the PC reboots during the driver uninstall/installation proces, back in regular boot mode, and then works just fine, until I reboot again. I can repeat this proces of booting to safe mode, uninstalling the GPU drivers reinstalling them and then having everything working, for exactly 1 boot. I tried installing the optional newer version, or an older version of the drivers (Way back to 17.11.1, but the problems persist. I also checked if windows is up to date, checked other driver updates, I checked for malware, I cleaned out dust in my system, ... I tried unplugging the GPU and running on integrated graphics with just one monitor. (AMD A8 7600 APU w/ Radeon R7 integrated graphics) Still boots to black screen. Whenever I want I can boot to the work drive, and everything works fine there, the GPU driver installed there is 18.3.3. Which makes me believe it is not a Hardware problem. Any recommendations to try next? I'm thinking of reinstalling windows at this point...
