So I build computers for a living and run into defective hardware all the time. But this time ASUS is really pissing me off. The GPU is defective, 2 days old. Didn't make it passed my testing. Go to remove the card and the power cable latch bump comes off. "VOID, Client Induced Damage" ITS A NIB OF PLASTIC!! FFS

Got laptop that had an extra drive in it (the 850 Evo). It comes up as a Microsoft storage space in device manager and cant be initialized in disk manager or formatted it in DiskPart Disk part said it was cleaned successfully but still cant format or create a new volume. When I tried to create a volume it said that a disk specified is not dynamic. I also tried to create a primary partition and it said: DiskPart has encountered an error: A device which does not exist was specified. See the System Event Log for more information. I do that (bruh moment) It comes up with this: VDS fails to write boot code on a disk during clean operation. Error code: 800701B1@02070008 Is it doomed for the drive.

Source: https://www.engadget.com/john-mcafee-dead-200832456.html Summary John McAfee, notorious creator of the McAfee Anti-virus software has been found dead in prison at the age of 75. People found his body in his Barcelona Prison Cell where he was waiting to be extradited to the US to face tax evasion charges. Quotes My thoughts Well, this is some really sad news. No one should consider suicide as an option - if you are at that point, please seek help. That goes for everyone from everyday citizens to convicted criminals. No matter what you thought of the man, this is still pretty upsetting that a pioneer in the computing industry has passed away.

Hi forum! I have a really annoying problem with my Asus Strix RX 580 where it can't be run on any other mode than silient on the included overclocking software. It's really slow on that mode (much slower than other RX 580s on benchmarks online) and still dies sometimes while under load. By dying I mean it stops displaying anything and goes 100% on the fans (or, more seldom, it just cuts off the power). Is there something I could do to fix my problem? Maybe trying to change the thermal paste on it? Funny thing is it isn't consistant with the "dying", sometimes it can run a benchmark for hours alongside CPU being loaded, while other times it just dies when I play a game for a little bit. For context: my PSU is 550W plus gold so that's probably fine.

I just a couple of weeks ago finished my first pc build, https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cXPPH2 , with all of these specs. And they system is running as it should mostly but my fps on games is shit, as I have a 3060 ti I should e.g. be around stable 200 fps on Fortnite with high settings but I can barely get stable 100 fps with multiple drops through out the game. It is like this on other games too. It isnt my internet as I have around stable 8-10 gb per second ethernet, I thought it might be my screen that cant handle the fps (I have a 1080p 60hz monitor) but thought that my monitor shouldnt affect the stats shown. I also ran a benchmark test on the system which came out as "incomplete", even though I ran the programme multiple times. I used UserBenchMark. All my drivers are up to date aswell. Do you have any idea what the problem is and how I can fix it?

Hello guys. Simple, I was swapping a CPU cooler and a couple fans on my x79 system and it all went smooth sailing. At one point I realized that i did not connect the fan LEDs. I was an idiot and tried to connect them with the system on... anyway, I didn't even get to plug them in when everything went down and off. Been troubleshooting for a couple hours, no dice. My motherboard is a GB X79 UP4.I am new to the forum but I have stopped by this site many times in the past. I also went over the "perform these steps before post/boot/no video problems!" thread on another forum that should pop up with a google search. That did not help solve the issue either. If anyone has some good input it would be greatly appreciated, even if it means to go on the hunt for an x79. I need this workstation running as soon as possible since I have work to do on it. TLDR: Is my motherboard dead after messing with connectors with power on? If not, any suggestions? Thanks guys.

Hello there, Before you read further I would recommend you read my reddit post first, I wrote it a couple of days ago when I still wasn't sure if I actually got scammed or not. Be aware though, I was confused, sad and angry at the same time and just wanted to get it all off my chest so it's maybe kinda long --> https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/66dfe1/probably_got_scammed_by_a_seemingly_good_member/ So I know for sure now, even though this guy kept me on his friendlist for a couple days more and kept asking if I fixed things with coolermaster yet, I checked my steam just now and I see that he not only deleted me as a friend, he also blocked me. He scammed me and I can't f***ing believe it. I can't believe that a person who has a following on youtube and his steamgroup, with a discord channel that he is active on daily, and converses on with his fans, has actually scammed me, and it pissed me the f*** off. We actually talked about both of us getting scammed in the past. I do not want to 'get over it'. On the contrary, I did enough research on his profile back when he was still on my friend list to still have his Discord, youtube channel, etc.. and I don't want this guy to just get away with this, people need to know. I feel like an absolute ass for bothering coolermaster with this, but it was actually possible that they gave a stolen key seeing as they got it from kinguin (a keyselling marketplace) and at the time I really had no reason not to believe him, he had nothing in common with the usual scammer, or maybe I'm just unexperienced with the smarter scammers. Although he's not that smart if he uses his actual profile with personal info to scam people.. As you might've read in the reddit post, I gave him a division key with collectors edition loot, which he said he wouldn't use, I can't check it myself as I already own the game, but I would be up for a giveaway. I'll randomly select a winner out of everyone that does anything to let him know what's up, extra entry per platform you reach him on! If he actually did redeem the key, well, welcome to the club! Let me know what you think I really just wanted to ask some advice on here, maybe there's a better solution to this. If someone here can actually verify that I can post his steam account, youtube channel and discord on here, then I will, so you can see yourself. But for now I'll just see what you guys think Never. Trust. Anyone wanting to trade gamekeys on steam pretty much.

Hello everybody, Over the course of November I've been buying parts for personal rig and yesterday I've finally had enough time off work and school to put it all together. After about 4 hours of building and minor cable management, I decided to boot it up without GPU to make sure it POSTS and I can update BIOS and OS on it. What the PC did is, it turned on - all the fans were working, the "power on" LED on motherboard lit up green, the general LED along the board worked, but there was no video output. What I have tried as of yesterday: Different monitors with different cables (VGA, DVI, HDMI) with different combinations Tried different combinations of RAM in DIMM slots (only 1 in each slot, 2 in different slots and etc). From what I've read, that's the first step to troubleshooting it Tried holding the power button on the front of the case for 30-60 seconds while disconnecting PSU from the wall cable (random suggestions from Tom's) Tried installing GPU and checking if the graphics would go thru it - no luck. After hours of doing this I was extremely tired and upset and I'm looking for someone to help me solve this. Nobody ever tells you how hard it is to align the IO shield with the motherboard because of all the metal on it (shield), and I've started reaching the breaking point about half way through the build just because of IO. Unfortunately this is the only PC in the house so I don't have any other system where I can check the components one by one, and the 1 month return on CPU (if it is the problem) has expired as of today. I'm desperate for help, and would appreciate any advice. So, I am moving into a larger apartment soon have finally have the space for a larger desk to accommodate my 2-3 large monitors. I was looking around and most people go with IKEA, which I just found and I am in love with the customizing capabilities. I really like the Karlby tabletop with either basic Adils legs underneath, or Alex drawers under each side. - both are pretty cheap, too. I read that their shipping starts at $9 for small items and $59 for larger ones, which sounded amazing. Upon reaching checkout, and entering my City/State/Zip, it said that my delivery fee would be $199.99...thats insane. My nearest store is a 3-hour drive one way. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for desks anywhere else, or any way to get that shipping cost down? Thanks.

hey bros, i pulled out the num5 key from uncle's laptop while was using it because it was pressing itself like this 55555555555555555555555555555 and i thought that maybe it not fitted in right, when i pulled it the hooks that were holding it in postion were destroyed and now the key is not even sticking in its place, yes i thought about sticking it there and putting it where my uncle keeps his laptop but it looks like that it is not sticking at all (i want to find a way to make it stick there (it wasn't working previously so that wont matter, i don't want it to work now i just want it there) . it will be ok if its squished he wouldn't notice that because his 5 year old is like beating up the laptop all the time. So, is there a way in which i can stick it in there without any adhesive and if there isn't any then pls recommend me an adhesive that does not smell too sharp (noticeable) and please no tape.... any help would be appreciated..... thx

Hello dear people of the internet. I have come to this website, to ask for assistance. Over the past couple weeks my mouse keeps disconnecting and reconnecting every 1-10 minutes, sometimes directly after eachother. This has become really annoying. It started happening after I installed a game from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3DIA6EvVZY. My mouse is the steelseries rival 100. Things I have tried: - Updating drivers - Changing ports - Turning off the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" setting on all root hubs. - Disabling USB suspending in power options - Restarting PC If someone could help, it would be really appreciated as I can't play any games

--------------------------------------------- Summary Story first? I realized I miss Tech News. Why did I not watch Tech News for so long? ...I was asking. Went to the Social tab in my gmail and realized, last video upload notification from YT was 6 days ago. What a bummer. Lets troubleshoot! but nothing helped. I found a video of a man explaining. He linked a source, so Im inserting this to the sources. Video for lazy people, Googles source for readers. TLDR: headline. Quotes My thoughts I would like to express my emotions rather than thoughts.. but im usually holding my carp together. Rather, what are we left with? Smartphone notifications - which I hate.. its spam on my little handheld screen. I need important notifications. Entertainment belongs to PC for me. Windows notifications - which are clunky. I never read those. and I try to have as little mess there as possible. Differs at my work laptop from my PC of course. YouTube top right corner bell icon - which yes, leaves me with only notifications I have turned on for channels, but thumbnails are obsolete!! Thumbnails are obsolete all in all for me this way. I will never see a video thumbnail probably, since I am organized person, and I watch what I want. Not what is recommended. Your thoughts? Hey guys I've really been struggling with frame drops in games that I should not be experiencing them in...I think. My rig has a ryzen 5 1600 with 16gb of ddr4 3466mhz and a gtx 1080. The monitor I'm using is a 75hz LG ultrawide with a resolution of 2560X1080 with a display port 1.4 cable. I recently purchased far cry 5 and it may be poorly optimized but I figure I should keep a strong 75 fps on high settings but instead I stay between 55 and 75 fps willy nilly. Newest drivers and all. I tried making a custom framerate in Nvidia control panel but the customize button is grayed out. I figure the only way to have a smooth experience is to make the monitor not cap at 75 and below but go higher so that i can't see a frame drop. I can't figure out how to make it work. Please Help! Thank you in advance! I feel guilty only posting when I need help but I really appreciate the feedback and enjoy seeing what ya'll talk about as a community on here. Thanks for keeping me entertained and educated!

I am about to do a very expensive build and I am looking to potentially do nvme raid 0. I am looking at the hyper m.2 x16 by Asus but I can't find a solid answer about compatibulity with Samsung drives. I know of vroc will not work with non Intel but will 4 separate drives show under Windows if I populate all slots with Samsung 970s? Would a software raid be possible? I plan to use the rampage extreme vi board and 4 500gb 970 Evo drives.
